SEPTEMBER 3rd |
1:34 PM |
------------------

The cafeteria was usually empty at this time of day, and Kimberly had decided to take it upon herself to use the space to rehearse for her Performance at the mutant festival that she had been asked to perform at. September was rolling up on her quickly and she was getting butterflies in her tummy not doing anything. Her plan was to do one original full length song, then a medley of 3 songs from ‘Forever’. This would be good exposure for her coming album release and she could NOT screw it up; the festival would be her first performance sense she was outted as a mutant.

She stood to the side where the backstage would be on the real set and hit play on the speakers she had set up around the Cafeteria, an audio clip from a Entertainment/gossip show she clipped out started to play, and fog filled up the area where the stage would have been.

-EARLIER THIS WEEK KIMBERLY PARKER DESCENDED TO NEW DEPTHS WHEN SHE ACCOMPANIED ANOTHER MUTANT IN THE DESTRUCTION OF CENTRAL PARK. WHEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON HER---

The Audio Clip cut out and at that moment a male voice cried out “ACTION”, which was followed by a sort of ‘explosion’ of water, and Kimberly had ran to the exact spot her little hydrotechnic display would go off, cleared out the fog and started signing.

“Come here and say hello
Going to make sure you see things through my perspective
I am going to make mistakes to learn who I am
And I don’t wanna be so protected”

She waved at the imaginary crowd and sang into her pink Microphone while she practiced her Choreography. Her macbook was spewing out the Sugary Sweet pop song into the surround sound speakers as she belted out her lyrics into the microphone; Kimberly NEVER lip synced.

“There must be another way
I believe in taking chances
But who am I to say what a girl is to do
God I need some answers”

She did a fierce pose followed by a spin, she slipped one step and just kept going, working it into a improvised little dance before continuing into her normal choreography. There wasn't much movement from her spot, a lot of interaction with the imaginary crowd and her microphone. She wasn't the best dancer in the world and had little formal training outside of what she did for the Ashlee in Rome movie but she made up for it in enormous presence on stage. Her spirit practically came out when she was out there, everyone always felt her energy and Sang right along even if they hardly knew the lyrics.

What am I going to do with my life
(you will figure it out ~dont worry~)
How am I supposed to find whats right?
(you just gotta do it ~your way~)
I cant help but feel
My Life has been way too over protected

She took a deep breath and hit pause on the remote control for her itunes that she kept in her pocket, she had not performed in a long time and needed to get used to it again, it used different muccles than danger room sessions. Then she stopped ant considered a possibility for a moment, maybe she could work those movements into her performance.

Ari walked along the mansion corridors, clutching a smoothie in one hand, the other holding up a book that she was reading. She'd always been relatively skilled at walking while reading, able to stop short from running into things and people. It was pretty odd, since she could be pretty clumsy sometimes without anything to obstruct her vision.

Straw against her lips, she savored her chocolate banana smoothie, reading along quickly to get to the end of the chapter. She only had a few lines left and as soon as she finished, she lowered the book and tucked it under her arm. The brunette happened to hear some pretty loud singing coming from the dining hall as she walked toward it, and she peeked her head in once she got there.

Ah, Kimberly Parker. Of course. There weren't that many people at the school that were musicians or actors for a living and Ari always wondered how some people got lucky in the business while others didn't. Ari could actually sing pretty well, and though she had the same rockstar fantasy that a lot of people did, she focused her energies on her art. But if she could have done both, she most likely would've. Of course being scared to sing in front of people she didn't feel comfortable in front of might be a little bit of a hindrance.

Being quiet so as not to disrupt Kim's practice, Ari leaned against the wall and watched her perform. It was actually like a complete show, with fog and all and Ari found herself being pretty entertained. It dawned on her that she and Kim had never really spoken about the ShadowX incident and Ari felt dejected for a moment. That whole month hadn't exactly been the best display of her character and the thought that she'd physically attacked Kim, Jason, Evvy, and Jubilee still made her feel ill. Ari had made it a point to try and talk to the people she'd hurt, attempting to make amends, but somehow she'd never gotten the chance to do so with Kim. Being a popstar probably kept Kim pretty busy, and X-Men duty, making art, teaching a class, and spending time with the people she loved kept Ari pretty busy too. Though they'd exchanged a few words as acquaintances since then, maybe now was the chance she hadn't gotten before.

As Kim turned off the music, Ari alerted the blonde to her presence. "That was really good, Kim. You have a really good voice." she said with an honest smile.

(sorry about the super late reply)

"That was really good, Kim. You have a really good voice." She spun round to see Ari standing there with a very kind smile on her face. Kimberly had not really taken the time to speak with Ari since ShadowX. She could only remember the look she had in her eyes that night and it always made her shiver; somehow that honest smile made that memory go away.

“Thanks Ari I really appreciate it” Kimberly smiled back at her, it was nice to hear that from someone, most of the time she heard things like ‘vain, superficial, two-dimensional’ about her music and voice. She had learnt to ignore the negativity, but it was always great to get some positive feed back.

Kimberly wiped the sweat off of her face with a towel and sat down in a chair she had pulled out next to her mac, and clicked away at the garage band project she had set up for the song. She could never leave her music well enough alone, she was always poking and tweaking and editing the things she worked on and was never particularly pleased with the end results; even when the other people around her were completely happy with the things she put out.

Kimberly stood back up and walked to Ari, placing her hands behind her back and staring at the floor for a moment. She couldn't pretend like Ari didn't scare her just a little bit, after those events allot of people made Kimmy a little uneasy. Kimberly took a small breath and smiled up at Ari. “So how have you-umm, been doing Ari? We dont see each-other much anymore.”

Ari smiled a bit wider as Kimberly thanked her, pushing off of the wall to get a bit closer to Kimberly's setup. "So you do your own background compositions and stuff? That's pretty awesome," she said with an agreeing nod. Ari may not have been a musician, but she had a good ear and she knew what sounded good. The brunette loved music and the process of what went into it really intrigued her. The entire thing, from writing lyrics to finding out what chords and sounds made a song a hit...it was all very interesting. Songwriting and making genuinely good music was a talent that Ari had a lot of respect for.

Kimberly shifted awkwardly in front of her and Ari smiled apologetically despite herself. She could tell when she was making someone uncomfortable, and Ari didn't need a lot of ideas as to why. The last time she'd really interacted with Kimmy, she'd been trying to stop her. Stop her at any cost. It was a dark memory that Ari didn't like to think about, especially now when she felt so happy with life in general. But it had happened and Ari would never forget it.

"I've been good, Kimmy... Listen, I know it's kind of late but I'm really sorry about everything. I would've liked to have known you before it all happened, so you could know I'm not really like that. That none of us are. Kurt either," she said earnestly, her hands palm up. "Anyway, I hope you can forgive me for attacking all of you. I was...not of sound mind at the time," she said, struggling a little with her words. She smiled slightly at the blonde, "Anyway, if we could start fresh, I'd appreciate it. I'd rather you saw me as someone you could go to, not as someone that tried to hurt you."

"So you do your own background compositions and stuff? That's pretty awesome,"

Kimberly shifted awkwardly again, Staring down at the soft pink keyboard and luminescent screen staring back at her. Kimberly wouldn't say it out loud of course but Ari kinda scared her. She was quiet for a time, not sure what exactly what to say at all, the last time she had been this close to Ari it had been Ice vs Glass, if only for a short time. Now Ari was complementing her and trying to make friends.

She looked up as Ari finally spoke up. She spoke about that last time they had been near each-other for real; she apologized and was putting her self out there for a new friendship. Kimberly was a very very trusting person, it did not take all that much for her to warm up to a person. But if you crossed her, if you broke that trust. Well it took Kimberly alot of effort to trust you again. Last person who had broken her trust ruined Kimmy’s hopes and dreams, burning them almost completely down to the ground.

“Thanks Ari... but, I mean...” she looked Ari in the face, trying to find words or a judgment of some kind but she felt very conflicted. “I wish I could just, like, forget about all of it and just move on.” She moved away from the macbook and let her fingers trail along the keyboard’s surface and keys. “I am so happy to hear about that, dont get me wrong. But, When I see you, sometimes I remember the look you had in your eyes. I am not used to all of this stuff yet, even after all that has happened...gah, I dont really know how I feel Ari.” Kimberly started laughing and put her hands behind her back and frowned in that silly cute way of hers.

“I will stop looking at you as someone hurt me, but for now I dont know if I am comfortable enough to look up to you as a mentor yet
