Time: Just after Sunset Date: July 7th Blink was depressed. While it wasn’t exactly something that she hadn’t been dealing with for a while, it still wasn’t something that she liked dealing with. Boys… love… everyone seemed to have found someone. Blink didn’t even really have a friend… she was feeling the effect that her prior anti-social life had brought down upon her. Still… the fact that she was trying to be social… and to no avail, almost made her want to go back to her recluse. She felt invisible, even with her vibrant pink skin. Wolverine had recognized Clarice as a possible asset to a team… the ability to transport people to where they needed to be in an instant. Still… that wasn’t enough. She wasn’t a tool, and she knew that… and she wanted to be a little more normal. She wondered, sitting on the roof alone, if it was something more than just her skin warding people away. Kurt Wagner, the guy with blue skin, fur and an interesting handprint had even found someone… but she, Clarice Ferguson, seemed incapable. Sitting on the edge of a window, balancing perfectly, she looked out into the empty yard. No one was out right now… they were all doing something or another… and the peace and quiet had turned from soothing to utterly miserable without a lot of time passing, and Blink felt completely and utterly alone. She tucked her chin between her knees, crossing her arms to hold herself, and gazing into the distance with her lightly glowing green eyes. Her Amazon-style green ‘battle suit’ was being worn, yet again. She had grown partial to it because the style of clothing made her feel good. She felt like she was free, after being caged within herself for so long. If she got a boy… so be it… but right now, she just needed a friend… |

[OOC: Hope it's okay if I join...I'm assuming it's set in the nighttime?] As much as Kate liked her room and her roommate, there were times when she just needed away. She trotted down the upper hallway in her kitten form, too tired to bother being human. Being human meant dealing with emotions that just weren't fun to her at the moment. Along the way Kate had grabbed her copy of the first Harry Potter book, and now she was regretting it as it dragged along the floor in her mouth. Panting, the ginger kitten finally reached the rooftop doorway, and to her relief it was already cracked. Kate wiggled through, pulling the book behind her, and it was only when she looked up that she even noticed someone was already sitting there. The rooftop was a nice thinking spot, true, but as Kate watched it was obvious that Clarice was more than thoughtful. She was sad. Abandoning her book, Kate trotted over to peer up at Blink, her tail waving idly like a banner. She mewed thoughtfully, putting a paw on Clarice's foot in question. Why are you sad? She wanted to ask, but her voice emerged as a tentative meow. Kate hesitated in turning human again. There were times when she didn't want to even deal with other humans, so maybe the older girl would appreciate it. |

It was always odd to others to not know which way Blink was actually looking. Most of the time, the person’s pupils give away the person’s true direction of sight, but Clarice had never been blessed with visible pupils. So when she started to track the cat that slowly moved in front of her, she did so without moving. It wasn’t Mittens… that much she knew… he was a different type of cat in this particular one in front of her. She wondered if it was a mutant, or if perhaps there was serious a cat hanging out here on the roof. As far as she knew, pets weren’t allowed, but this would be interesting to see. Turning her head slightly, she noticed the door slightly cracked and a dropped book. Mutant. “Hey…” she said, rather monotone. As though it was nothing more than second nature, she pushed her hand out, creating a portal in front of her that connected to the one facing the door, allowing her to push it shut. Withdrawing her hand, the portal closed, and the book disappeared in a small flash of light, and then appeared directly above the same hand, allowing her to easily catch it. The normal accompanied ‘BLINK!’ sounds and the vibrancy of the pink energy that made up her teleportation and portal abilities was even more dull, as though it was accompanying her mood and taking on it’s characteristics. “Harry Potter… good book,” she said in response to the meow. She knew the person was a mutant, but she didn’t know if it was a permanent change, guy, girl… anything. And she certainly wasn’t going to look. He or she still was a human being after all. “Nice night…” she started, looking upwards, and trying her best to be slightly friendly. Anyone could tell that she was not exactly in the best of moods though. Her tone was dull when it was usually full of life and vibrant. She wondered if the person was going to transform or not, but then she realized that the person who was a cat probably wouldn’t, even if they could. No clothing makes it kinda difficult… but there were select people that could transform with clothing still on… Still… even as a cat, it was nice to have someone around. |

Kate meowed in greeting, settling back on her haunches with her tail curled neatly around her feet. As Blink had thought, changing back really wasn't an option; she'd left her special bodysuit back in the room. What fun it was to communicate as a kitten. She couldn't help but jump as the portal appeared, transferring her book from the doorway to Blink's hand. Obviously impressed and a little awed, Kate stared at the older girl, and then at the doorway with wide kitten eyes. So that was her power? Even after being at the mansion for nearly a year, Kate didn't know everyone -- mostly because so many people were always arriving -- and it was always fun to her to see who had what powers. Blink seemed so sad that Kate's own head drooped. How could she help? Idly, Kate considered doing a little kitty jester dance to cheer her up, but she didn't really know any dances in this form and it would probably just make a fool of herself. Nevertheless, she stared upwards, remembering the night in which she and Mittens had done the same thing. This was different though, much different. Look! Kate piped in her little meow, standing on her hind legs to motion at the stars. The big dipper! She fell over soon after, not used to standing like that, and lay like that for a moment with her tail waving. What's wrong? Why are you sad? Kate asked, concentrating so that her cat sounds almost sounded like words. Because there was nothing worse than being sad and alone. |

Definitely mutant. It couldn’t be more obvious, considering how easily the cat reacted to her and tried to respond. Still, it was nice, a cat or not, to have someone around. She did note the cat’s jumpy behavior as she used her powers. She had been encouraged to use her powers more often, and lately, she had been using them as though they were second nature, barely even needing to think about what she was doing, like muscle memory. Blink considered asking if the mutant knew Mittens, the young boy who had brought her back to the school… but didn’t thinking about the different and possibly bad things that could be brought about that particular question. Some cats were territorial, and that was an area she didn’t want to tread. Instead, she watched the cat silently for a moment, setting the book down and tucking her chin in her arms again. The cat meowed, and seemed to be pointing up at the sky, and even though Blink did look, she couldn’t tell exactly what it was that the young cat was pointing at, and then caught the cat as it fell, trying to help. She was out of her reclusive position, which helped, at worst, to ease her tension. Suddenly, another idea popped into her mind, and she held her hand out and thought for a moment. 2nd drawer, right dresser. -BLINK! BLINK!- Two flashes of pink vibrancy and a set of pajamas slumped into her outstretched hand. She held it out to the little cat, encouraging her to use them, if only for now. She honestly couldn’t understand cat, and it was obvious the little creature was indeed trying to say, something. |

Kate wiggled upright, mewing her thanks for Blink's help as she shook herself all over, making her fur stand up. Clothing! It was ingenius, much easier than having to run all the way back down to her room. Kate pawed the clothing out of Clarice's hands so that she could turn her back and shift as quickly as possible to her human form. Hopefully, the darkness would hide her form as she wiggled into the pajamas. "Thanks." She said, voice slightly rusty from disuse as she finished buttoning the top button and turned to face the other girl. Her hair stood completely on end, and Kate pawed at it briefly, trying to flatten it. "I don't always remember to wear clothes when I change. Kinda stupid, I know." Kate plopped down beside Clarice, drawing her flannel-clad knees to her chin. "I just saw the Big Dipper. Look." She squinted and pointed upwards, tracing the outline of the stars with her fingertip. After a second she lowered her hand, clasping it loosely with her other hand. "What's wrong?" She asked quietly after a moment of silence. "You looked so alone and...lost, I guess." Kate chanced a glance at Blink, her eyes wide as she looked at her. Kate knew exactly how it felt to be all alone, and she didn't want anyone else to really go through that. |

Blink smiled weakly as the cat meowed a form of thanks. For her own sake, she hoped it was a female mutant, considering that it was pink flannel pajamas. Knowing all too well that the change into human form would likely need some cover, she created a vibrant pink portal in front of the girl and averted her eyes, that way no one could possibly see her. “Thanks.” Blink disbanded her portal, and smiled a little as the young woman sat beside her, but her smile quickly faded, the weight of her depression a little more than her simple presence would be able to lift. “I am sure that is kinda embarrassing… but it must be difficult to find something you can change freely in.” she stated, tucking her knees with her arms again, but not dipping her head. Then the young woman said something about a star compilation, and Clarice stared towards the direction her finger pointed. Then she saw the constellation, and stared at it for a moment or two just before lowering her eyes back down and staring out in the distance. Then the young woman spoke in a concerned tone, asking her if she was alright. She turned, looking at the young woman in the eyes with her own pupil-less glowing green eyes. She cared? “I am alone. Even with you here, I feel like I am alone… in the world as a generality. Mr. Logan taught me not to be scared of my powers, and I kinda figured that maybe I would fit in a little better afterwards, but nothing has changed. I mean, after all, I am fricken pink… I guess I am just a little too different… but what I don’t get is how someone like me… Kurt… can get along with everyone so easily, and I can’t.” Clarice shut her mouth quickly after that. She knew she longed for someone to talk to, but she basically just bled her heart out to a complete stranger. Slightly embarrassed, she tucked her head in her knees again. |

Kate shrugged as she settled into a comfortable position beside Blink, her hands clasped loosely around her knees. "I can't walk around in normal clothes if I plan to change." She grinned a little. "But Mr. McCoy gave me a special suit that changes with me, so it's okay, 'long as I remember to wear it." She giggled, but the giggle was awkward and it faded quickly as her eyes turned back to the stars. Blink seemed to barely notice them, but Kate didn't mind. She was surprised, though, at the disbelieving look on the older girl's face when she commented that she cared. Why wouldn't she care? In a way, though, Kate could see just how she felt. Kate had come to the school unable to control her swirling skin or empathy, balking at every attempt by people to be nice. But somehow, by some miracle, she had fit in. Aloud, Kate said, "You fit in with me." She extended her arm; in the moonlight, her pale blue skin had gone unnoticed. "It's scary, coming here." Kate acknowledged. "When you don't know anyone, and you're too shy to even talk." Like herself, Kate added silently. "It's like...suddenly, instead of being different around lots of ordinary humans, you're suddenly different around lots of mutants who are different too." If that made any sense. Kate really had to work on her analogies. "At least Mrs. Grey-Summers can hide her powers, or Ari, or some of them. They can pass as humans, but we can't without a disguise or something." Kate looked to the moon. The thought stung more than she wanted it to. "But...but you have me." She added firmly, knowing how stupid she sounded. "We're friends now." The way Kate said it meant that there was no backing out of it. |

Blink smiled. It was nice to simply have company, but nicer still to have someone to talk to… aside Logan. Clarice loved Logan like an Uncle, but he wasn’t really the friendliest ear to talk to… he always had his gruff opinion about things. “A special suit huh? That’s cool. My powers don’t really require anything like that, but I always liked this color green…” she said, grabbing the front flap of the bottom of her outfit, showing of the lime-green coloring. “You fit in with me.” That statement caught Blink of guard, her gaze focusing as she locked eyes with the girl next to her. She hadn’t fit in with hardly anyone, whether by her own volition or not, but this girl was making an effort to be her friend… not her trying to be Kate’s. A smile crossed her face, and she paused, looking out at the sky again. Whether the young girl knew it or not, she was certainly feeling better, even if only a little bit. “I can’t really disguise myself enough to wander in public… but lately, I have figured out a way that I don’t have to. Out of sight, out of mind.” She paused, smirking slightly… “I stand on rooftops, places that don’t have any people, or are inaccessible to someone without my powers. It has worked for me so far… and I am not afraid of heights at all anymore…” Then the young girl had declared them friends… just like that. Blink wasn’t really a emotional wreck or anything, and usually, she was in control of how her moods effected her outwardly, but in a sudden burst of motion based purely on instinct, she reached over and gave Kate a hug. “Thank you…” she whispered, a single tear dropping from her glowing green eye. After a moment, she relaxed, releasing her, and stood up, wiping the tear from her eye quickly and hopefully without her noticing. “So… you wanna fly?” she asked, a smile on her face. She wasn’t fully trusting the bond between herself and Kate, but knew the general reaction that such an out-of-the-blue question would bring. “I know a spot that is the best place to read a book on a night like this, but you got to be willing to fly…” Still smiling, slightly deviously, she awaited her response. |
