Time of day: Early morning; about 6:30 am
Place in the time-line: Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Nothing was wrong. Nothing was out of place. Everything was quite fine, as long as she didn't take into account the sinuous vines moving under her skin... Not to mention, her hair was now a ridiculous shade of red! Still, it was nothing. A serious shock in the morning, but still. The hair looked almost normal, if one didn't know her hair was naturally dark. The vines, they used to only cover a small area of her hands. This morning, she woke to find they had spread all over. There were vines on her face!

It hadn't been obvious straight away. In fact, she'd been dressed and out of the room, going to brush her teeth and such - the usual morning routine. As far as she could tell, her roommates were asleep still. It was six am on a saturday, so she tried not to wake them. Living with two reality warpers made one careful, even though she doubted that they would give her a hard time. They reserved that for each other.

The young plant manipulator hesitated in going out this morning; she'd stopped by the kitchen, grabbed some poptarts, and came back to the girls dorm. Sitting crosslegged on the couch, she mused on what this - change - meant. It could just be a glitch, maybe she ate something the natural dyes reacted with or something? Or, the other option, her powers themselves had changed or grown and this was the only sign of it so far. She fully intended to test that out. She knew her current limits, though they were difficult for her to explain. She knew what she couldn't do, and if she could now... well, it'd be interesting to test to say the least.

Evelyn didn't notice it at first. The animated Roses that Wanda had created, there were some lurking here and there in the school. Several had been adopted as pets. Who knows what happened to the rest. There was one beside her on the couch, mimicking her pose. Root-vine 'feet' were crossed, and it had a leaf bent to rest its blossom 'head' on - it looked to be in deep thought. She smiled down at it, and returned to her thoughts.

Shina was on her way back from her normal workout, slightly sweaty in her gym shorts and form fitting shirt for additional support. Walking normally towards her room and a nice shower, she passively scanned her surroundings, always on the lookout, not to mention it being the only way for the physically blind military woman to see. She had gotten used to the people that were usually waking up or already awake at about this time of day, and their energy signatures were almost like identification cards to her, so when she walked by someone who’s signature was not only changed, but moving she had to stop.

As she approached, she knew that she hadn’t been formally introduced, and that likely Jane would be better suited to handle a situation that took a certain amount of… finesse. Making the change of control in mid-stride, the step changed in form, her shoulders slumped slightly as her body relaxed, and she slid around the side of a nearby chair. “Hey…” she muttered, trying to break the silence and make her presence known. Her head was aiming in her direction, but as usual, she never can look someone directly in the eyes. “…looks like you and your friend there are a little more similar today.” It was said in the nicest fashion, something Shina would never have been capable of.

The energy that made up the rose was different, but that wasn’t the thing that made them similar. No, it was the actual composition of the body… the woman in front of her was becoming a little more like a plant. Odd, but not really too out of the ordinary in this school. “My name is Jane… I’m the nice one, so don’t worry about what you might have heard.” Jane had gotten accustomed to making that approach when talking to someone knew. Shina had quite a reputation in the school already for being harsh and strong willed, as well as not taking any lip from anyone… which usually meant that not many people liked to ‘hang-out’ with her.

Anna Cuff yawned and rolled over in her bed. A beam of blue sunlight softly warmed the young Entropy Queen, kissing her her pale cheeks. Slowly, She stirred in her sleep and woke up. She sat up slowly on her room and looked around, stretching and yawning in her bed. Her little sister, that little brat Anna loves so much was snoring softly in her bed. Anna smiled softly. She loves that her and Les had slowly worked out the anguish left between them from ShadowX. Somehow, just the resilient of their sisterhood was enough to make it.

She pulled the strap of her pajamas back on her shoulder, as she looked over to the other bed in their dorm. Evy's bed was dormant today, and to Anna's dismay, slightly wrinkled as her roommate just threw the covers back on. Anna yawn and walked out of her bed, quickly tucking the sheets underneath the mattress and smoothing the sheets to her standards. She then stepped over to Evvy's bed to make it up before she went off to kiss her sleeping sister and head off for the day.

She walked over to the student lounge, hoping to catch some news before heading down stairs for toasted rye bagel. Anna looked over and saw two girls talking. She waved and looked over to Evvy, waving slightly, before pausing. were those....vines growing underneath her skin Anna blinked and looked over her again, noticing the bright red hair that wasn't' there the night before. Anna looked over at the other girl. She had only seen her in the field, Shina...but she seemed, nice, polite, not the warrior she fought with in before.

"Heya, Evvy." She said, sitting down on the couch, still weary of Shina sitting across from her. "What's going on? Did...did you dye your hair?"

Evelyn glanced up as Jane spoke up, taking a seat nearby. She smiled slightly; yes, she had heard of this lady. She had two... er, three friends in the same squad as she was. It was somewhat difficult thinking of Ran and Lyn as seperate, though it had been a while now. Even when they were apart physically, they were together mentally.

"I'm Evelyn," the sixteen year old mutant introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Jane." She managed a smile, though she wasn't exactly happy and meeting new people always made her a little nervous. She was getting better about that, it seemed. For one thing, she wasn't freaking out in any way shape or form. That had to be good.

"I haven't heard much about you," she admitted, "Just that you're really good in the Danger Room. Which I've seen myself." From the opposing team, she might add. That had been interesting, to say the least. It had been fun to go head to head with Paragon in the Danger Room earlier in the month. She figured she gave as good as she got. "And... I guess something happened last night," was what she did add. "I think its just a glitch. I mean, a while back, I got a tattoo with some natural dyes... and they kinda bloomed under my skin. It just stayed put though, until now." They'd obviously moved from her hands, which she glanced at out of habit. They were most active there...

"Hello Anna," Evvy greeted her roommate, startled for some reason when another person entered the room. Even though it was someone she knew. "No, I didn't dye my hair... did I wake you?" she asked, hoping that she hadn't. Not everyone was an early riser. "Apparently my hair decided to make like a flower." The implications of that. Why did flowers bloom? She ducked her head. Eeep.

Jane allowed Evelyn to explain to Anna what was going on with her. Anna was like a beacon in her vision, because her energy fluctuated and changed so constantly. There were very few that changed so quickly as hers, and she silently thanked that she was on the same team. Her trying to drain that young girls energy would be extremely difficult. Still, now that it was silent for a moment, she felt the need to speak up, and possibly correct the woman’s unknowing mistake on her assessment.

“Actually, Evee,” she said, watching the woman’s reaction to the little nickname that she gave her, “I think your powers are evolving. The way my power works is I see everything as energy… in all different forms and shapes… and it’s how I see. Your energy, it is changing, and growing, from what I can see. I don’t know how it’s going to affect you, but that stuff under your skin…” she said, point at one of the vines, “it’s moving, as though it is alive. And by the way, I think the hair looks awesome.”

Jane smiled as she finished, trying to be helpful. Anna was her roommate, and from what her file had said, she was a reality warper of some kind. Shina didn’t like that particular realm of power, considering it could affect a lot of things really quickly, and without much regard to scope or scale. It was a lot of power to deal with for someone her age, but she had to give the young woman credit. She had held up pretty well.

Jane thought about a couple of things, then came up with an idea. “I got a couple of little tests we could do if you want…” she proposed, and knowing that the next logical question would likely be ‘What kind of tests?’ she continued without much hesitation. “Try talking to the flower that seems to have taken a liking to you. It might listen, all things considered. Or, if that isn’t a good one, you could try standing in sunlight, seeing if it affects you in any way. I don’t know exactly how your power worked before, so I don’t know where to start, but you get the idea.”

Anna blinked in surprise at Evvy's explanation. She wasn't a botanist, and didn't really get the euphemism behind her roommate's dilemma. But Anna still wanted to listen to her, at least to be her friend.

Anna was still wary of Shina, until she started to talk, it...it was like another person, not like the one she was in the field with. not the one that order then off to the side, and then took off running, leaving her squad hopelessly abandoned in the hellfire before ShawdowX. It was like she was a different person. Still, Anna was never one to trust a person new leaf immediately. It took the Chaos Queen a while to get use to something new.

Still, She kept her eyes on Evvy, trying to inverse her self into Evvy's shoes. "It can't be as bad as you think it is, Evvy." She said softly, "Your just growing up.." She paused, sudden;y considering the previous comment of Evvy blooming, that probably was not one of Anna's better bits of advise.

"Oh god!" Anna said burying her face in head at the rush of feelings washed over her. All activated at the slightest thought of the euphemism of the flower blooming.

Evvy was a little speechless. She didn’t react much to the nickname, since she’s had various nicknames derived from “Evelyn” from different people; Evvy was just the most commonly used. Not that there were a lot of people that talked to her let alone used those various nicknames. Evee wasn’t a bad nickname as such. What she was speechless over was the description of her powers changing from another view point. Seeing energy. That had to be something. She ducked her head slightly at the compliment to her hair, although she’d probably miss the black before too long.

“Even if they are evolving… the vines are still a glitch. My cousin and I tried to cove—“ she paused, changed the wording, and continued, “we tried to give ourselves tattoos a while back, and the natural dyes reacted strangely. I wouldn’t have the vines beneath my skin if we hadn’t done that. That is what I meant by a glitch. The vines… I’m pretty sure they’re not exactly vines, but they’ve moved since the beginning, but they’ve really spread now. They’re like… living pigments, and…” she paused again, and smiled this time before continuing, “Since they are plants, I’ll probably be able to manipulate them in time.” With practice. And since green wasn’t the only color that showed up in the vines, she could probably do some interesting stuff with that.

“If the vines are more than just pigments,” she said after a thoughtful silence, “Then maybe there’d be chlorophyll…” Evvy wasn’t sure if she wanted to do that yet. “I want to see if I can manipulate them before I go into the direct sunlight. What if it triggers something… I mean, I could consider these an invasive parasite you know. They haven’t done me harm yet, but it doesn’t mean they can’t. Especially now they’re not just on my hands.” She didn’t say anything about talking to the plant. They seemed to understand people, at least a little. What exactly would she be proving there?

Anna’s response, her advice, when it came to ‘growing up’ made Evvy stare a moment. Then she burst into startled giggles. That was just too much. No, Evvy wasn’t upset about the change in her appearance so much as the fact that it happened so quickly and so unexpectedly. She hadn’t thought her powers were going to go and change on her. Her roommate’s embarrassment over it all only made the young plant manipulate giggle harder, until they faded off and she just made a face at the other girl. She fully intended to talk to Avery; the older plant manipulator would probably be interested in the change in her powers. Her lips quirked at the memory of their exercise in the forest. That had been so cool…

Still keeping a quiet eye on Anna, not sure of her place in all of this except being a friend, Jane simply watched as things unfolded around her. She would keep her comments to herself, for the moment, and wait her turn as she figured things out. The best way to learn something was not from someone else, but from doing it yourself, figuring things out and working on it. Dedication, patience and curiosity were the only things that were needed to completely unravel anything one needed about oneself. That was how Jane and Shina had come to find each other… and it was foolproof.

Jane shook her head and smiled. “Well, I don’t see or smell any pheromones, but I would keep a sharp eye out for bees. They might be perturbed to find a moving flower that probably doesn’t have any pollen.” She chuckled lightly, but she was being honest, and hopefully, helpful. She didn’t want to worry the young woman about guys being supernaturally attracted to her… that could wind up being bad. Interesting… but very, very bad.

“Honestly, what I would do would be just to experiment, figure things out. Definitely go with your instincts though, because I can guarantee your body knows a lot more about this change than your mind does. Be sure to go slow and be careful… you could find a new awesome part of your power, but everything has a drawback… so don’t overdo it or go too quickly.” She paused, laughing slightly… “God, I sound like Shina. Just do whatever it is you think you can do… you will figure this out… I’m sure.” She gave a considerable pause, then smirked slightly…

“Or if you want, you could talk to Shina about doing a couple DR sessions… that would probably be the way she would tell you to figure it out. Me personally…” she smiled, shaking her head… “I think that would be a little… stressful.” Mentally, Shina once again smacked Jane. Jane smiled even more, knowing full well she was right, and also that she was likely the only one who knew just how to get under her skin and annoy her… just like she were a sister.

Jane stood up after a moment of silence. “I got to run and take a shower… You know where my room is if you need me.” With that, she waved to the pair and began to walk towards her room. Hopefully Static was up by now…

Evvy's sudden fit of giggles were enough to shake Anna out of her embarrassment. She slowly looked up from her hands and smiled, though her cheeks stilled burned a deep red. Still, if one couldn't laugh at themselves..

Anna quirked an eyebrow when Evvy tried explaining the origin of the tattoos, and quickly changed her story halfway though. She had heard very little of Evelyn's older brother, and her life before the Institute. Unlike Anna and her sister, Evelyn had lived on the streets before finally coming to the Institute. But it was a subject that rarely came up in the room. Brother's were something of a sore subject between the both of them. Still, the Chaos Queen was curious on what the story behind the moving tattoos.

Anna watched as...Jane, tried to offer her advise on the situation. Anna still wasn't sure what to make of the sudden change of personality, but at least this one seemed pleasant. She looked over her friend, only able to imagine what was going though her mind right now. She knew that if her powers had suddenly evolved, the effect wouldn't be a change in hair color.

She shook of the terror flash erupting in her mind, as the vivid image of her shredding her sister's notebook...as she tried to write her off the face of the universe. All these months and she was still scared at what her singing shards of light were able to do. But this wasn't the time to be worrying about her powers.

Finally, she pulled herself out of her memory and heard Shina say something about taking it slow. Anna nodded and continued the thought, "Yes, a little bit of power exploration would be a good thing in this situation." She said to the plant manipulator, smiling softly. "Maybe we can go out into the woods later on today and try a few maneuvers."

She waved good bye to Jane as she left the room. "Well, I was on my for Breakfast." Anna said, placing her hands on her knees, to push herself up. Normally, the girl was never this forward, but even Miss Prefection could make exceptions.

"Care to join me?"

[ooc]Older cousin, not older brother…[/ooc]

~Pheromones?~ Evvy thought, nearly squeaking at possible consquences... swarms of bees, or something more... She was glad that wasn't a problem at the moment, but there was always the possibility that was this was just the first stage of changes in her mutation. After all, she hadn't thought her mutation would change in the first place! And the possiblities of pollen... she might make people's allergies act up or something. Oh, that was so weird.

"I might do some DR sessions once I get a bit of a handle of what's going on," the fifteen year old said with a half smile. "I'd rather just figure it out myself though at first. I think training afterwards would be great. Just now, it'd be a little too... intense. You know?" She also... it'd probably be better for her to practice with her team members and... or Jean, though she wouldn't mind practicing with Shina.

"Um.. later Jane," she gave a little wave as the other girl went off. She was so different from Shina, but still similar in a way... it was a lot like Ran and Lyn she thought. At least, before they were seperated. It was so strange seeing them as seperate people now.

The thought of going to the woods made Evelyn slightly nervous, but she nodded. It was the best way to figure it out, and it'd be best if she had someone with her. Her roommate had offered, so.. "Alright, sounds like a plan," she said with a nod. She'd already eaten, but she decided to go along to the kitchen anyway. She was thirsty, maybe they had some orange juice or something? "I already ate, but I'm kinda thirsty..." she stated with a smile as she stood up. "I suppose I will tag along."
