Avery had nodded to Jean’s comforting words, her chin moving enough where it lay on Jean’s shoulder to tell her this as they embraced. She knew in her heart she was right, they had left only because they had no other choice and if there was more that she could do, she would have. Unfortunately it was only natural for Avery to feel guilt for not being able to go beyond what was possible. Jean helped to ease the pain but it would be something that would take time, like everything seemed to.

They stood in the silent, still darkness for a moment before Jean added with much assuredly that hope was not lost. With a flash she felt them being pulled back into reality once more and she opened her eyes, looking up to Jean who continued to speak. Her words were convincing and had done the trick to give Avery more hope that she had before. Whether it was a trick was doubtful, but she had half wondered later on if Jean truly believed them to possibly be alive, or if she was saying such things to be beneficial to both Scott and herself. Avery decided it was the former. She had raised good points, and Avery seen things in her short while of being a mutant of what unfathomable things could happen. However, pain nonetheless gripped her heart, knowing the purpose of Alex’s chest monitor and thus wondering how he could manage without it.

“You’re right..” Avery agreed rising, her face wet once more as she had been shedding tears in reliving her memories. “…It’s too early to discard all other possibilities.” Although Avery’s voice was not filled with hope, it was rather detached, emotionally drained as she was. She was tired, but strangely not physically. She didn’t realize it at the time, but this incident had taken a toll on her where all the others hadn’t. …All the others had worked out in the end. This one would be harder for her to bounce back from as she did the rest.

Her lifeless eyes then fell to Scott as he spoke. Still not knowing hardly anything that Jean did and most likely still very confused, he got straight down to business as usual. Once more she was caused to be amazed by his headstrongness, not even taking one moment to falter or break from his constant character. He assigned both women with their parts to play in his new mission, most confident that his brother and Lorna would be returned to them once more.

“I will get in contact with Jon right away,” Avery replied with a nod and serious expression. Like the obedient student she had always proven to be, she would follow out her orders to the t and as soon as she could. “He has taken leadership of X-Factor,” she added though not saying anything about his belief of Alex’s death. “..For the time being, at least.”

She moved towards the door, her eyes shifting between Jean and Scott, knowing that they needed to be alone. “I will deliver the reports as soon they come in. Understandable some of the team are terribly shaken and will need time to recover, naturally.” Jon was her best bet. Rather than gathering the information from each member herself, she would request him as the team’s new leader to assign the required paperwork.

Avery paused with her hand on the door handle, looking back over her shoulder as she opened it. “If you don’t want to go on the flight alone, I’ll go with you if you wish…” She put the offer on the table knowing that it wouldn’t be taken. In being a friend it was the best she had to offer and sometimes the gesture was more than enough. Having nothing more to say she gave the two a curt nod and without another word she exited. She needed some time alone now and they needed theirs. A shower was needed and it called to her exhausted mind. Sadly it would take more than a shower to wash this all away.
