Sin's laboratory was a very organic place. He didn't like the idea of a "clean room" laboratory. His experiments were designed to work in the real world, in a real environment. If not subjected to the difficulties of life, to the germs and such, they would not be strong enough to do this. This was one of his control rooms, an offshoot of his lab. This one was sort of like an interrogation room. Except there was one chair. And the table had a young telepath strapped to it. And there were flesh eating insects buzzing around the room.

The sedatives that had been given the telepath were starting to wear off, but she should still be just at the fringes of being able to use her abilities. A little hazy, but able to hear his words and perceive her surroundings. She could hear the buzzing, and the flesh eating insects that made up the swarm were big enough that she could probably make them out. She was safe. The only thing that could keep the insects at bay was a special scent that Sin had developed. It interacted with their nose, made them repulsed. There was a little halo, an invisible shield around Sin and Alix, where the insects would not go.

"The irritating buzzing noise you hear is the sound of my swarm, hundreds of flesh eating insects. The only thing keeping them from consuming you is me, my command. They obey me but if you see fit to invade my mind, and I can tell, well I just might not be so inclined to keep them from stripping the flesh off your bones," he lied. It wasn't really his command. He didn't order them. They lived to consume. Sin could only mildly redirect them, but Alix didn't know this.

Deception had always been an important part of Sin's talents. In fact, if one subscribed to the biblical version of things, all the suffering in the world was the result of a lie, of a snake telling a woman that apples are cool to eat. In fact, even the name Satan the Devil meant slanderer. So lying was something Sin was quite good at. He had gotten so good at it he didn't even give off the usual signs. His blink rate stayed the same, his heart didn't speed or slow or skip a beat.

He could start trying to purify her system now, to wash the sedative completely out. He didn't want it interacting with the other chemical he had in his hand.

It had been difficult to come up with the right mix. A mixture of ability to perform complex tasks but also making them very open to suggestion. It was a loose form of control, but more or less the subject when injected could literally not say no. To anyone. Since Sin was the only one in the room he was the only one she could take orders from.

Ordinarily, Sin would be having a great deal of fun in a few moments, his kind of fun. However Longshot had saved her from more than she could ever know. Sin didn't fear a confrontation with the man, but he did have a healthy respect for new queen's desire to keep the peace. Longshot was wild, unstable, and was quite easily set off at the moment. Sin had been mildly annoyed with him before, but was currently a sea of hidden rage at the clone. Sin enjoyed childlike innocence. Children had no real appreciation for the importance of life and death, but understood pain. He had exploited this often, and he was contemplating attempting to discover what caused Longshot pain. Not anger, pain. Let him grow up.

But he focused at the task at hand in a businesslike manner that he generally did not adopt.

"You will be coming around in a moment, and after that you are going to help me a great deal," he said as the sedative chemicals started to be cleansed from her body.

Again, she found herself in a world of situations that were alarming and discomforting. From the back of a storage container to this... this... whatever this was. Most of her mind wondered where Longshot was- what was happening, who this man was, and why there was the dull sound of buzzing every which way. The sound itself was not loud but in a sense.. the deep rapid tone gave enough of a sound off to just vaguely set on a slight discomfort. That.. or everything else that was happening was causing that discomfort. It was hard for her to tell at this point. What she could tell, however, was that all her expectations from the exchange had been sorely misplaced. At least from the way things seemed at the moment. What did they want?

At first her gaze narrowed; she could feel her senses returning, her mind gaining an edge that the brotherhood had not allowed for a complete month; her first instinct? Attack. Like any restrained creature she tensed against the restraints, strange eyes immediately searching out the most active mind in the vicinity. She geared up, she prepared- ready to begin- but then he spoke. While she could've attacked him, the direct response would've been the insects. Her telekinesis definitely wouldn't be enough at this point to hold them back. She relaxed if only a little and stared upwards sightlessly.

She almost gave a retort as well, a biting, self-righteous indignation that was hardly common from the otherwise pleasant telepath. A mission or anything that required her to push herself generally would've garnered such an edge to her personality but now? After wolfs head... she wasn't so certain. A biting remark was all she wanted to make but for the moment.. she held her comment, waiting quietly. She didn't hear his thoughts about Longshot, none of his thoughts on lying and it's place in the world. She vaguely picked up on traces of emotion, emotion that was firmly controlled by Sin himself.

It was hard to understand, hard to see. She'd encountered his types before- murderers and all degrees of evil but none of them were as able to hide as much from her as he was presently capable of. She could see the malice, the intents, the rage- the darkness- but it was veiled.

Just barely, she felt her mind clearing more and more and carefully she looked towards Sin in the same level of veiled control. ::Help you?:: There was just barely a small rise in her strange thought voice before she looked about the room barely.. ::Where is Longshot?:: This time, she did not speak forcefully or weakly into his mind; instead, quite simply she just.. spoke.

The thoughts in his head caused him a fair amount of alarm, but she seemed nonchalant about it. Was this just how she communicated? It seemed to be. He actually anticipated more objection to the idea of helping him, something along the lines of 'hell no' but her objection, well hardly even an objection really, was very... quiet. So quiet that he didn't really acknowledge it. He'd explain more about it later, besides her second question caught his attention.

"Oh, your protector? Your knight in shining armor? Well, he's been frustrated lately you know so he's probably tormenting some of the pawns right now. Cutting them, making them suffer to relieve his own stress, or boredom," he said simply, raising up a needle, tapping it with his finger, squirting the liquid out of the end to clear it of air bubbles, "After all, your presence and capture have left him very agitated so I imagine that many people will suffer for it."

Subtlety dictated that he not say anything stupid like "How do you feel about that" or some such idiocy. After all, he wasn't really being that subtle now, with his implications that Alix was to blame for the suffering longshot caused others.

"Did you think that good things would come of your link to him, of making him your little pet?" he said, "He is a creature of greed, concerned in his own happiness and amusement exclusively. Even now he knows where you are, but there is a person even more favorite than you who he needs and so he is willing to leave you to my graces," a brief smile, "And he knows exactly what that means."

She turned her head with marked discomfort, strange eyes watching his every movement with silent though veiled discontent. What would she say to what he was telling her? That she knew and understood it was her fault on some level but theirs as well for encouraging it? She shifted her glance to the needle silently.

She'd never been one much for hospitals or doctors; her upbringing had hardly given her a respect of such things. Especially needles. Naturally, drug dealers weren't the best for inspiring trust in something so trivial but feared by so many. She tensed again and listened to him continue to talk. Barely, her hand flinched as if preparing some vague concoction of a plan to fight him. If she was faster, if she was smarter, she could catch her powers right at their usual levels just before he did whatever it was that was planned.

::Hes not my pet... I would never.. ever view him as such.:: she muttered, boldness suddenly becoming clear. He'd seen her as the mentally shackled, half drugged telepath she'd been- not who she really was. She was a quiet and polite soul when it came to the day to day dealings but any semblance of her abilities- the abilities that she relied on everything for and she'd make use of them. There was no doubt in any record of her that she wouldn't do otherwise. She'd been nervous; quiet even before the sedatives had begun to be cleared out but now with her confidence back she was far more inclined to naively speak her mind.

::And he's not. You people.. you make him think he is such a thing. I know what he really is. He knows.. he wouldn't willingly leave me to you, either. That's why he's frustrated and that's what makes you angry. You have to keep the peace, for the sake of your own master and her orders.:: She suddenly spoke a great deal more, her levels of awareness bringing her back into a more adamantly argumentative state. Her comments bore in part some similarity to his previous attempts to upset her- which in some part it had but she'd hidden it well with empathy.

::I do not want... whatever is in that needle.:: With her abilities, she was suddenly confident; suddenly near arrogant. In part, it was hard to tell what action she'd take; but the firmness in that final comment suggested that she was getting to the point that she would not be above powers.

Dr. Sin was not inclined to fits of rage. Yes, he felt entitled to them, entitled to vest his anger on whoever had caused him but he thought of himself as a man in control. Men in control do not fly off the handle at a person for bumping them in public, are not a slave to their emotions. After all, if he was constantly given to fits of rage then people would exploit this weakness.

This was not the same as saying that he never flew into fits of rage, and Alix was not helping her case. At first her objections were amusing in their predictability. Simple belief that the person she was close to was not what he actually was. It was why Sin never made attachments to people, or even animals. When one got attached logic was thrown to the wolves.

"Oh don't be daft," he said condescendingly, as though he was talking to an idiot which in his opinion he was, "Longshot needs to be treated like a pet, the poor fool is unable to carve his own thoughts or act without guidance. He was created in need of a master and simply interchanges them. Your form of mastery is simply less direct. Relying on him, on his connections, to spare you pain," Sin had stopped bothering to shield his thoughts. In fact he was focusing them, focusing on his memories. He was enjoying thinking about them, about some of the people he had tormented, some of the things he had done, innocent people he had corrupted. Or destroyed, some of them had been unable to handle it, had found creative ways to die. He wasn't hiding, was really hoping she was picking up on his thoughts.

Sin's blackvines reached out at his command, encasing her, lifting her, and slamming her against the wall of the confines roughly, "and don't you for a moment think that it will work, that you are safe, that I'm not authorized to use whatever means are required to force you to aid me," his eyes narrowed, "and I would banish all thoughts of escape from your mind as well," he hissed, "You can't control the insects with your powers. They respond only to me. For example..." he said, pushing a button. A part of the wall opened, revealing a raggedly dressed man. He had wronged the HFC. Sin's swarm were resistant to psychics. They have a hive mind, complex and completely different than a humans. It only took the ravenous swarm moments to sense their new food, and soon Alix would see that her powers were useless against a hive mind.

"Save him if you can," Sin said, smiling.

Half a year ago, his thoughts might've bothered her- made her uneasy and afraid... But there was something about being present for the deaths of thousands that just made something like him- even with all of his evil transgressions- not as potent. She looked into his mind and while she did shudder at what she saw, she did not react with horror. ::You're worse than he'll ever be or ever has been. He doesn't understand that he does wrong.. you do and you relish it.:: She spat back, clearly not afraid of him; even if, in some part.. she knew she should be. She suppressed this, however, and kept her wits.

She winced when he slammed her against the wall, though didn't give anymore than that simple, bare wince. ::I don't need to control the insufficient minds of your disgusting creatures to fight back.:: She near hissed back- her expression darkening as he revealed the man. There was never a moment of doubt on her features, even if vaguely she was unaware exactly how well this was going to work. It didn't matter. She'd done more than hold off a swarm of insects. Whoever this strange mutant was.. he clearly hadn't kept up with Xfactor, or the events in mutant town. That.. or he hadn't gathered what she was capable of. What she could be if he kept pushing her limits and pushing his memories onto her mind.

The insects bore against the man relentlessly and she pushed back her telekinesis easily holding back the swarm. ::Clearly, you've underestimated. Keep them coming. I can do this all day.::

[JP Sin/Alix]

Sin liked to raise hopes. Giving people a thought that they could escape, then crush them. One of the tendrils gripped the syringe as a hatch in the room open. His insects poured in. Sin could no longer even see Alix the swarm was so thick. He could wave his hand six inches in front of his face and not see it right now and the force field was being assaulted by razor sharp mandibles strong enough to eat through bone. Singularly they were nothing, but as a swarm they were a relentless force. Whether the young telepath had the power to hold them back was inconsequential. It was mainly a distraction, something to keep her using her powers. The insects would ignore Alix as long as his vines encased her, since they smelt of what repulsed them too. Alix had been sprayed with it, but it would wear off if she started to sweat. The insects had begun to nibble at the edges of her hair, though.

::Fascinating creatures, aren't they?:: he thought, focusing them on her, hoping she could hear him. The buzzing of the swarm would easily drown out his voice, ::Born hungry, and they never stop. They will literally eat until they explode if allowed.::

The terrified screams of the prisoner were barely heard over the buzzing of the swarm. The prisoner did not have the benefit of the scent that repelled them. The needle edged toward the girl, held by the plant like appendage that was all but a part of Dr. Sin for all the years they had killed together.

::I find them far from fascinating.:: she barely strained- the number of the swarm far from affecting her telekinetic barrier. ::In fact.. they're somewhat.. I don't know... insuperior?:: she continued to shove her abilities against them, hardly aware of the insects chewing at the broken ends of her hair. Carefully her attetion turned to the man, and she focused. ::Calm down.. I'm holding them back.. can you find the door?:: Did she really think this would work? Probably not. But she was a girl- perhaps a bit mature of a girl- but still a teenager. Still someone who had to do something; anything even if that something really meant more than nothing.

::I'm going to move the shield towards the door, you follow it.:: she directed the man quietly, ignoring sin for the moment. She didn't notice the needle; not yet, at least.

Sin was of course unaware of her communication, her plan to save him. He wouldn't be saved of course. He was in Sin's laboratory, and one thousand ways to kill him waited outside the door. The needle edged along the vines that held her, telling him where she was. One vine wrapped itself around her neck, feeling it out for Sin, telling him where it was, squeezing lightly.

::You've been fun to play with child, but now I'm afraid it's time to end this particular game.:: he said, and the vines that were wrapped around her suddenly bristled with thorns, digging into her skin. Sin avoided arteries, but it had to be excruciatingly painful. The thorns always had a chemical in them, an acrid burning chemical that made wounds hurt even more. As the thorns dug in the needle flew toward her neck, aiming to take advantage of her distraction.

She struggled against the vine suddenly, black and white eyes still frantically trying to cling to the barrier against the insects. It wouldn't drop, of course- not yet. She'd faced pain and kept her abilities in check, this was no different. His vines tightened, the thorns digging into her flesh with more agony than she generally remembered possible. Her features strained almost into a scream but there was still no sound from her. Nothing except an obvious strain on her features and the vague emotional awareness that came from such inflictions on an empath like her.

And then the choice. She could hold the vines back, use her telekinesis to pull them away or her telepathy to attack Sin... but that wasn't the way a hero acted. The needle connected with her neck- something that unlike so many of the other biological things around her... she could not stop. The barrier, however.. kept intact.

The serum was fast acting, and wouldn't take too long to reach the brain, where it would work it's magic. He shifted the vines on her, digging them in, causing her more pain. He didn't do it much though. The pain might give her something to hang onto. The part of her brain that decided what to do, and what not to. Almost ethics, but it mainly governed decision making. Without a will of her own, she'd require the outside world to dictate what she should do. It was mildly frustrating to Sin. There was so much he could do with her in this state. As she came out of it, she would recall what she did. It didn't effect memory, and he had a lot of fun testing it. Sadly it was forced to be mostly business. Mostly.

::I think it's time to take the barrier down, Alix. Take it down, let him die.::
