Alister had his Nullifier on so that he would be non threatening when he ran into Wanda today. He had one of his creatures keep an eye on the HQ every so often hoping to find her out on her own so he could get some time alone with her. It was his luck that he was heading into town to get some groceries and much needed supplies that he was running low on. He would have just stolen them but after the incident earlier this month he was trying to keep a low profile. Having someone pissed off at you that can seemingly bench press a school buss one handed was something more than he had intended to run into but on the other hand it was a nice distraction from the boredom he had been stuck in. He left X-Factor to keep everyone safe but now that he was ok he did want to go back. Though his mind was different now and they would no doubt think he wasn't himself. He didn't want to go back to being who he was. He was better than he use to be and it could only help everyone like this. He was hoping that if he could show Wanda, the only one who could really understand what was going on with him, that this was in his own best interest. Then maybe everyone else would be able to understand.

He had made sure to keep to the alley ways and to keep the hood up on his shirt so that no one could easily see his face. Thankfully it was cold enough that it wasn't out of place for someone to be wearing one. He also had his null watch active as to keep his powers off and his appearance rather normal. His face was somewhat well known but when he was nulled his complection wasn't pale and his hair was brown and eyes green. Something that would hide him further from the people of mutant town since they would have to look even closer to recognize him. Luckily for him he didn't have to wait long for there in the distance was the crimson clad beauty walking towards him. His little feathered friend had done well indeed.

It wasn't long before she had passed right by him and lucky for him no Pietro in sight or no doubt he would be against a wall or flung to the side already. He quickly stepped out and pulled his hood back just far enough to show his face as he carefully walked up beside her. "Please don't panic I just want to explain what's going on and you're the only one who can understand. I hope you'll give me a minute to explain." Alister had been debating exactly what to say but what was there to say. He knew anything he could come up with would just go out of his head when he was her so he would just explain when he talked to her. If she would talk to him.

Wanda
Reality Warping
The slush squelched under Wanda’s boots as she made her way through the streets. In was getting dark… not really though. In reality, it was only three o’clock in the afternoon, still two hours before the sun sank into dusk, but in Wanda’s strange, distant view of reality, shadows veiled the sky and the colors were muted. It was the dark time of the year when shadows were a bit too dark, the kind of dark that could draw you down into another world, if you weren’t careful. Wanda wrapped her arms around her and hunched deeper into the heavy wool coat Pietro had gotten her. “There is no better construction, my darling twin. It will keep you warm, even if it gets wet. No colds or flu for you, my dearest. What a louse of a brother I would be not to do all in my power to keep you safe.” Her fingers felt the durable but slightly scratchy fabric; a lot like Pietro, if she paused to reflect on the similarities.

Her eyes had a far away glaze as she strolled along the street, seemingly unconcerned with what was going on around her. Truly, she would’ve flunked that part of the self-defense class – Know Your Surroundings. However, it must also be noted that anything hostile that jumped out on Wanda Maximoff was already a winner of the Darwin Award, an award for removing oneself from the gene pool.

Suddenly, someone was beside her, talking to her. "Please don't panic I just want to explain what's going on and you're the only one who can understand. I hope you'll give me a minute to explain."

Wanda peered at his face; there were slight differences in color but the feel of Alister shone through. “Alister?” she said and reached out to clasp his forearm. “We have been so worried about you,” she said, worry and sadness showing through her warm, dark eyes.

“Alister?” she said and reached out to clasp his forearm. “We have been so worried about you,” she said, worry and sadness showing through her warm, dark eyes. Happy that Wanda was still worried about him was a relieving sign to him though he would never truly want her to be sad as she appeared to be. "It's a bit of a long story but needless to say that I'm actually doing very well." He couldn't help but be all smiles as the one person he cared the most for was right there next to him. He delicately removed her hand from his forearm and held it in his hands warmly for a moment before he brought it up to his lips and gently gave her hand a warm kiss. "I'm glad to see that you're still worried though after what I've put you threw you'd have every right to be angry with me. Leaving like that was the stupidest thing I could have thought of. I put everyone in danger leaving. Though when I left I thought my mind was about to break again and that everyone around me was in danger but that never happened. It actually did quite the opposite."

He paused to try and find the right words as he interlinked his fingers in hers and began leading her down the street the way she was originally heading. The two of them just standing there would no doubt be more noticeable than just two more people walking together and talking and all it would take would be one person to recognize him and call for help. "If you imagine my mind like a large mirror and what happened to me when I first evolved would be like a rock being thrown into that mirror. Well what has happened to me recently is a few of those pieces have been put back together. He wasn't sure if she'd understand his analogy because he barely understood it himself and that made it all the more difficult to try and explain it. I'll always be a broken mirror but at least now I reflect things a little better." He had a light hearted smile on his face as he talked trying to brighten up Wanda's face as it was painful to see her sad. "I want to come back home but what worries me is they are going to see me as different than I was and think it's not the real me and try to "fix" me. I'm fine still I'm better than fine now." He was honestly worried about how the others would perceive him. He knew Wanda would understand though since she was special.

Her furrowed brow smoothed as he spoke, telling her what she wanted to hear and believe, what they all wanted to believe – that Alister was well. His hands felt warm despite the cold around them and she smiled as he brought her hand to his lips. It was sappy. It was an overly dramatic display. But it was also a sweet gesture that made her feel very special.

She listened to him; nodding in agreement when he said that leaving as he had was the stupidest thing he could’ve done. Her fingers squeezed his slightly, “Everyone has moments of madness in their lives.” She shrugged and continued thoughtfully, “Some last longer than others.”

Holding hand her, he continued down the street with Wanda staring into his face. His words made perfect sense; it was too close to her own experience not too resonant at some deeper level of her being. As his words began to sink in, filtering through her own fractured psyche, her face brightened, drawn by his excitement.

“I see, you had to leave, walk through your wasteland to find yourself,” she concluded, likening his self rediscovery to an internal pilgrimage.

"I want to come back home but what worries me is they are going to see me as different than I was and think it's not the real me and try to "fix" me. I'm fine still I'm better than fine now."

“But,” her face darkened as treacherous realizations bloomed, “we could not help you before.” She turned her eyes away and down at the ground, “We tried but only made things worse. We all want you back,” she stopped and looked back at him, tears welling at the corners of her eyes, “but… do you want to risk us,” her hand reached up and her fingers combed through his brown hair, “hurting you again?”

Alister smiled as he could see that she was still worried about him. It was something he had not felt in a very long time. Cared for, worried for, thought well of. These at one time would have only been confusing terms that he wouldn't have been prepared to understand but now after all he had been threw were something he definitely enjoyed feeling. When her face brightened and he realized she indeed understood him and what he was going threw he all but started jumping up and down in excitement. Though the feeling was short lived.

Seeing Wanda so sad so upset was hard to take. "Oh Wanda no. You didn't hurt me. No one has hurt me but me." He threw his arms around her pulling her into a hug. "You have never hurt me. You have helped me become a better person, a more confident person. I know that you nor anyone else would ever willingly hurt me." He suddenly thought of Pietro for a second and quickly added. "Excluding Pietro but that's just his way." It was a kind of cheesy joke but he was hoping it would help her to smile again. "I'm sure that once we both go back and I explain things to everyone that it'll all be ok and we can put this hole thing behind us all." He much preferred Wanda when she was happy and smiling. It seemed so much more natural when she was happy but when she was sad it was almost like it was disobeying some unknown law.

He pulled back slightly and looked down at Wanda as he placed his hand under her chin and gently lifted her head. "You are nothing short of amazing Wanda. You feel so much for everyone. You have made me a stronger person but you still feel that you have hurt me. It's far from it. You've only made me better than I could have alone. If it wasn't for you I'm sure that I wouldn't be the person I am today. I'd be some kind of monster or something even worse than that." Every word he spoke was true and he only now realized that he was mere inches from Wanda and that was making his heart start beating a bit faster.

The smile still lingered on Wanda’s lips from Alister’s joke about Pietro, when he pulled her into his arms. The sweet words he said made the months he’d been gone worth it… almost.

“I'm sure that once we both go back and I explain things to everyone that it'll all be ok and we can put this whole thing behind us all.”

She closed her eyes and sighed against his shoulder. It was nice having him back. The things he said, that she made him stronger and saved him from being a monster, were sweet and filled her veins with warmth.

“Pshua,” she snorted, “you are stronger than you believe and I will not take praise that I have not earned.” Before he could protest, she leaned up and kissed his cheek. “But I thank you for saying it,” she grinned at him and took his hand in hers.

“I am certain that everyone else would like to welcome you back too, but I am greedy and want you to myself a while longer,” she walked backward a few steps, tugging Alister along. “You see… I am not so very noble at all,” she laughed. Walking through the streets hand in hand with Alister, it felt as though he had never left. “You know, Alex and Lorna are back,” she smiled. “And the same as always,” Wanda chattered brightly. “That is why I knew you would be back,” she said with a confidence she didn’t entirely have before his return, “people always seems to come back. Even death can not stop them.”

Along the streets, it was hard for the neighborhood residents to overlook the brightly clad, highly animated figure of Wanda and so, naturally noticed Alister. The mundane, human hair color and lack of his normally scarlet eyes caused people to take second and third looks but slowly, people leaned over to their neighbors and whispered.

“It looks like I will not have you to myself much longer if we stay on the street. Ahh… what I not give to have my flying carpet with me,” she lamented. “Do you remember that first ride?”

The kiss to his cheek was a bit of a surprise and he blushed a bit as a smile widened on his face as Wanda linked hands with him and pulled him along as they walked further down the sidewalk. Her comment on being a greedy woman was something that made him feel special. Not many people had every made such a statement as to wanting to keep him to themselves. "Far be it from me to argue with a beautiful woman." When the comment of Alex and Lorna came to him he was overjoyed and shocked all at once. "You're kidding me. I was almost certain that they were gone. It's good that they are ok. I remember Alix saying something like they just weren't there anymore. I should have guessed that it wouldn't be so easy for anything to break those two up. And as far as you are concerned how I could be so foolish as to have stayed away for so long only shows how stupidity on part is the only thing I really have to worry about keeping us apart. Although allowing me to see a few things about myself was helpful I still could have done it without leaving. Though being away did reaffirm two things that I already knew, but that is going to be a secret for me to know till later."

The conversation lead to the time they were in the park and the carpet ride she took him on. It was something that he thought about often. "How could I forget. Flying over the streets, sailing threw the air, everyone looking up at us in awe and wonder. It was so much fun I could hardly remember the last time I had so much fun as that." For a moment he thought to himself. "You know I have been practicing a few things for fun and came up with something I was wanting to save for later but I don't see the harm in showing you sooner. Besides, it seems as though my presence is no longer a secret but who said we need to go back so fast. We can always take the long way around town till we feel like going home. We can make a day of it."

Rolling up his sleeve and pressing a button or two on his watch his powers began returning to him. A few sparkles swirled around his hand dancing like fireflies around his fingers till they leaped into the vacant street and formed into a white horse with a horn on it's head but behind it was an ordinary pumpkin. Alister's face smirked a bit as he let out a small groan as he sighed a bit. "It always comes out the same way. For some reason I can't make a carriage." He tried to think of something else but unfortunately nothing else came to mind. "I remember the fairytale Cinderella with the pumpkin coach. I can never seem to get it right though." He was a bit sad because he really wanted to take her on a ride around the city just the two of them. Well he'd just have think of something else they could do.

Wanda listened; he seemed like the same Alister he had always been – young and laughing. “…Although allowing me to see a few things about myself was helpful I still could have done it without leaving. Though being away did reaffirm two things that I already knew, but that is going to be a secret for me to know till later.”

“A secret? Well, far be it from me to pry,” she said with a coy sniff, though it was plain that she wanted to know. However it was also just as clear that she’d have as much fun covertly discovering what was hidden. If she were a child, Wanda would be the type who’d shake her gifts and searching every corner and seam for a hole to peer through before finally ripping off the brightly colored paper. Really, it was like getting two gifts in one.

Pretending to forget the whole matter of a secret, she continued casually, “Looking back, leaving was the only thing you could really do. It is a peculiarity of knowledge and wisdom… you can only find it if you go a long way away. It is … just one of those strange things.” Warming to her subject, Wanda veered off onto a tangent. “The simple peasant boy who goes on a quest, he can not simply walk fifty paces to the edge of his village and receive enlightenment. It does not work that way.” She scoffed at the notion. “That would be merely an errand… and does not count.”

Soon, Alister rolled up his sleeves and firefly wisps of sparkling magic poured from his fingers. Wanda grinned and clapped her hands together in anticipation of what wonders Alister would summon. She felt reality shift subtly, making Alister’s imagination take form in this reality. “Ooooh,” Wanda mouthed as the unicorn, its coat shining white in the setting sun, took form on the Brooklyn street; behind its prancing hooves, sat a simple pumpkin.

"It always comes out the same way. For some reason I can't make a carriage.”

She stared down at the ‘definitely not a carriage’ pumpkin and gave Alister’s arm a comforting pat. “But the unicorn is pretty.” Living (in a sense) creatures were Alister’s forte, just as devices and objects were Madison’s. In the back of her mind, there was a flicker of sorrow, he’d only been gone a few days and she already missed his silent, ever-present presence.

"I remember the fairytale Cinderella with the pumpkin coach. I can never seem to get it right though."

“But you made a pumpkin,” she said, searching for the bright side. “Which is a very useful… erm… vegetable,” she finished lamely. Around them, a curious crowd was clogging the street, whispering in awe and pointing. Taking little notice, Wanda grinned brightly, “A carriage ride would be fun. It is a shame Pietro is not here, he used to drive the vardo when he got old enough. Grandpapa said it would put muscles on his arms.”

For all Wanda’s creating living roses and turning rude people into chickens, she didn’t do much flashy magic, things merely changed around her. Stepping forward, she dug something out of her pouch and sprinkled gray dust over the pumpkin. In moments, the pumpkin changed, becoming an eerie spectral translucent and grew. From the top, a stem grew and split, forming four big wheels. Vines reached out and formed a harness around the unicorn but interestingly, there was no bridle or bit to steer the unicorn, it simply pulled.

“I hope the unicorn listens,” Wanda leaned over and spoke out of corner of her mouth, “or this could be… interesting.” Before them, the carriage looked ghostly, surrounded by its magical glow, everything about it, from the pumpkin-like compartment supported by only the stem, to the free-spinning wheels made of vines, shouted its impossibility to exist in this reality.

It was true that a pumpkin was a useful thing. You could make it into a Jack-o-Lantern, take the seeds and cook them for a snack, then when the lantern was finished and served its purpose could make it into a pie. It was indeed a versatile thing. Though with this one it couldn't make use of those as it would disappear before too long and if you tried to carve it would just mist away. Letting his mind wonder off for a second but luckily nothing else poped into being because of it. His face dropped open as the pumpkin sprang to life and changed drastically into the new and much improved form it now took. Wanda's powers never seemed to have limits but this was something he took on a hole new scale. Being able to create something from nothing was easy, but changing something into something else was much more impressive. True he did indeed remember a few times that rose's moved around like living things and such like that, but those were just things that happened around her. Impressive they were but they were more or less something on a smaller scale. Seeing this first hand and with something he created was special. He never saw anyone able to manipulate one of his creations.

Especially when it was something like a pumpkin. "You know you never cease to amaze me. Just when I think things in this world can't surprise me you show me something more wonderful than before." With all Alister could do it wasn't easy to show him something surprising or new but Wanda was able to throw out a few curve balls like they were nothing. It was a wonderful thing to be surprised like that. "I'm sure that with such precious cargo as you that it'll be extra careful." Sliding his hand across the surface of the now most definitely a carriage he was amazed at how firm it was now. It was indeed something truly amazing. He gave a bit of a wink as he opened the carriage door for Wanda and gave out his hand to help her get in. "Your carriage awaits my dear."

Wanda
Reality Warping
In their storybook lives of Wanda Maximoff and Alister Black, a magical pumpkin carriage drawn by fairytale unicorn seemed perfectly natural… not normal though, even for Mutant Town. Wanda’s eyes danced with joy, but not for the unicorn, which was wondrous as it pranced through the streets and between cars, or for the ethereal pumpkin carriage that rolling along, causing pedestrians and motorists alike to stop and gawk, but for the person at her side, that he looked at her and saw a person worth being with, even with all her faults; so few people, only some of the other members of X-Factor really, did that each one was a precious jewel.

More intelligent than a mere horse, the unicorn seemed to know where it could and couldn’t go, leaving the passengers to sit back and enjoy the ride. Alister had held out his hand to help her into the carriage and she had held onto it as their magical carriage eased through the streets.

“This is so nice… so special,” she said, turning to Alister with a smile. In the background, the faint screams of police sirens approached, getting louder by the second. “I feel like a queen in this carriage,” her lips curved into a coquettish smile, “and being with you. The Queen of Mutant Town,” she proclaimed foolishly, lifting her chin regally and then laughed. “But…” she sighed heavily, seemingly not hearing the approach of the police or not caring, “as fun as this is, we should not place ourselves above others. We can not be of the people if we put ourselves above them.”

Behind them, a megaphone blared into life. “STOP THAT VEHICLE AND COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS RAISED!”

The hole situation was something like a dream. Not one of his own as his weren't even this good. Holding onto the woman that had enthralled his heart. "Very true Wanda very true. Though you are a Queen, and if not a queen of people. You are indeed the Red Queen of Hearts. After all you already have mine." He leaned over and lightly kissed her cheek. The sirens in the back didn't register into Alister's mind at all. He had no idea that they were coming for them. How could he. Why would he. A carriage ride wasn't illegal and it wasn't till the man on the megaphone blared out his orders that he looked behind them to see it was indeed them that were the offenders. "Uh oh. Looks like our special mode of transportation has stirred a bit too much attention."

He was a bit scared of something like this. It wasn't just that he was worried for himself. Far from it actually. He was scared that he had just got Wanda into trouble. Just then when Alister was getting ready to try and coax the mythical creature to slow down it actually started speeding up and moving about a bit more rapidly. It was trying to loose them. Whether it was Alister's unconscious worry, or the creatures own idea to try and get away from them it was something that was going to be hard to stop. For a moment he thought about activating his null watch but would the carriage disappear too? Wanda changed his pumpkin so there was a chance it would and a chance it wouldn't. If it was just him he'd take the chance but not with Wanda here, and if he simply unsummoned the unicorn there wouldn't be anything to direct them and they could crash into another vehicle or worse. "What a wonderful way to announce myself back to mutant town. By being chased by the police. Oh how I can hear the lecture I'm going to get for this."It was funny in a way and a small giggle slipped out of his mouth. "They spooked the unicorn. Now I can't even stop the poor thing if I wanted to." It was a little funny. A simple carriage ride turning into a police chase with a mystical creature and a fairytale pumpkin.

Alarms, sirens and the police lost in the confusion of the perpetually too slow, the ridiculously plodding...

The black and white blur blended into silver as it swooped through the streets, following the sound on his patrol, but not liking what he saw when he approached. A coach made of a pumpkin, a unicorn crashing wildly through the streets, a scarlet haired man and worse, a scarlet clad witch. Quicksilver growled under his breath, a low groan of disgust and frustration, not at Wanda, never at Wanda, but at her companion whose fault this all surely was.

He matched his place to the careening police cars that chased the carriage and he looked over at them, his eyes half closed in his irritation. The policeman nearly crashed his vehicle, staring at shock at the slender, aerodynamic, terribly pale man who ran effortlessly beside them. "Oh, shit, yer--"

"I am going to take care of this." Pietro said, as casually as if he was out for a stroll. "Stop your pursuit, and the infernal caterwauling of your sirens. It is frightening their steed." The police slowed, the sirens cutting off quickly.

Pietro zipped past the carriage, and grabbed the reins of the unicorn, not at all impressed by the mythical beast. He'd seen such things before. It tossed its head and whinnied at him in panic. Not gently, but not cruelly, he pulled on the reins, running along side at the same pace. Then, he began to slow down, at a steady pace so that the unicorn matched him... slower, slower, slower until a dead stop.

Furiously, he whirled on Alister and pulled him, violently out of the carriage. "And you dare to wonder WHY I do not want you near my sister?! You have no responsibility, no consideration, no control! Is it not bad enough that she has little ability to stop the chaos that circles around her from other realities? You feel you must encourage recklessness and the casual breakings of the law of physics?"

The policemen pulled up not too closely, stepping out of their vehicles. They didn't know what to do. "He's X-Factor, right?" one of the asked the other.

"Yeah, I think so, but... what do we do about those two?" the other muttered, "Do we... do we jail them for reckless driving?"

"You wanna write a report that includes the words 'unicorn' and 'pumpkin coach?'"

"Good point."

Pietro heard none of this as he stood in front of Alister, his face nearly as red as the younger man's hair. "Does it not occur to you, or are you so brain dead and self important that you do not even think, that my sister is not a legal citizen of this country?" he spat, confident that he was indeed out of ear shot of the police, "If she is arrested, she will be deported and I will punt you and your ridiculous creatures halfway to Latveria on my way to rescue her. You are a menace, and coming from someone like myself who has caused countless dollars worth of property damage in my brief career of terrorism, that is saying much. Stay away from Wanda until you grow up. The world is no fairy tale, no matter how much you and she wish it to be, and someone must keep their feet on the ground at all times. If you cannot, then you have no business with her."

Slamming Alister to the carriage wall again, Pietro then dropped him and zipped around to his sister's side of the ride, his anger melting into a gentle look of worry and fear, "My beloved, are you injured? You should have told me where you were going so that I could have watched to make certain you were protected and cared for. If you had been hurt in this irresponsible misbehavior, I would have never forgiven myself."

"Very true Wanda very true. Though you are a Queen, and if not a queen of people. You are indeed the Red Queen of Hearts. After all you already have mine.” He leaned close, brushing his lips on her cheek in a gentle kiss. In that moment, everything else flew out of her mind – the reason she had come outside, the town, the people – everything seemed so completely inconsequential and the only thing she wished was to sit back in the seat, lay her head on Alister’s shoulder, and dream… pretend that maybe she could have a happy ending; perhaps they would look at fireworks in the night sky, she could provide them herself if Fate would not oblige. However, as if on cue, flashing red and blue lights lit up the air. “Interesting,” she remarked, looking at the display, “but not very pretty.” The carriage picked up speed.

“Pietro,” she cried, pleased to see him as he slowed the unicorn to a stop; an evening of the three of them would be even better. But the thought of an evening of the three of them together soon shattered like tableware at a Greek party.

“No,” she protested, wide-eyed as Pietro grabbed Alister and drug him way. For a brief moment, the thought of going after them and pulling her brother away flashed through her mind. She could do it, she knew, but then what would she be? Some simpering little wet rag of a girl to cry pitifully until Pietro relented? Instantly, she snorted away the idea in contempt. As Pietro railed against Alister for them both being reckless, saying that one of them needed to keep their feet on the ground, Wanda rested her chin in her hand, her lower lip seeming to pout as she thought. Pietro spoke of her being taken away, back to Latveria, when her eyes sparkled wickedly and an idea bloomed in her mind, an idea that even had a label attached – Avery.

After a heavy thump against the side of the carriage, Pietro leaned inside, his features strained with concern and fear. “Aww, my darling Pietro,” she reached for him and let him help her to the street. “I know you mean only to care for me but sometimes you worry too much,” she told him as red and blue flashers lit up her face.

“Alister,” she called, circling to the side of the carriage that had been thumped. “Are you well?” she asked, running her fingers gingerly through his hair at the back of his head. “Did you hit your head?” she asked, beginning to fuss over Alister; and if Pietro didn’t like it… well, he had only himself to blame for treating the red-haired summoner so roughly, doesn’t he. Ahh, delicious irony.

A blurr of silver next to them would usually be a welcome sight to him but at this particular time and place he knew that he was probably going to be in a tight situation from the over excitement. He only hoped that Pietro would give him the courtesy of allowing him to explaining before yelling at him. The experience that came next was jarring and somewhat overwhelming. One of the simpler things he could tell for certain was that Pietro was beyond just normal angry. The simple fact that when they stopped and Alister was suddenly outed from the vehicle was evidence of that not to mention the few times his head came into contact with the carriage itself in between Pietro's harsh critical words.

Almost as soon as he had been yanked from his normal position inside to the bashing of him against it. He now found himself on the ground in slushy snow. He understood what Pietro meant but what Pietro didn't understand that having his feet on the ground didn't mean that he couldn't have fun now and then. He had been gone for so long and no doubt Pietro's overprotective nature stifled almost all creative thought. His power of speed was straight forward, blunt, and to the point. He didn't have to think so far outside the proverbial box that you ended up so far away from it that you were lost in your own imagination to use his. That's what the difference was between the three of them. Pietro was stuck inside the box. Yes he may know of the outside of it but he never got to truly experience it like Wanda and himself. Imagination was just something that happened to them when they had there eyes opened or they were closed. Alister heard his creatures talking to him all the time, they were there every second of every day unless he nulled himself. Even then he was sure they were still there he just couldn't hear them.

His thoughts on the situation broke when Wanda made her way over and began runing her fingers threw his hair over his tender and now throbbing head. He gritted his teeth a bit as he pulled himself up to his feet again. "Yea I'm fine Wanda. A little dizzy but fine." Pietro knew how to hurt people and luckily he held back or his head would most likely have been sitting in the snow instead of just pounding. "Pietro. I know you have the ability to punt me just about any were in the world. Though I find it horrible that you'd think so little of me to allow someone to something like that to her. Besides, there is nothing illegal about a carriage ride. The only thing that caused any problems was when they came by and agitated the Unicorn." He also took note that the Unicorn was now gone which was probably for the better as it probably ran off back to his imagination to get away. "I have my feet on the ground Pietro. I just allow myself to have fun from time to time. My powers can be used to bring a little joy into people's lives and not just be used as a weapon and Wanda is one of them that I like to see happy. If you have a problem with me doing things like that then how about a list of do's and do not's."

Wanda gave him the most cursory of reassurances before leaving him to attend to Alister and Pietro's white brows lowered over his silver blue eyes, which had grown dangerously hard... their father's expression in his face. He watched her fuss over him and then that idiot dared to lecture him, dared to speak as if he knew his mind, knew what he had sacrificed to keep Wanda safe. Pietro had no more interest in this, at all, not one iota of interest in this ridiculous carriage, or the ridiculous boy who had attempted to drive it. He released his grip on the carriage wheel which was no longer round or serviceable and he said nothing to Wanda or Alister.

He turned on his booted heel and strode away, back to the gauntlet of policemen who stared at him, with wide eyes.

One spoke, "Is that... it's a pumpkin, right?"

"My sister and her... whatever he is, will deal with the carriage." Pietro said, "Next time some oddness occurs regarding her, you call me first before the situation escalates."

"Listen, X-Factor or not, if they're going to stop traffic and cause commotions in the street--" Another policeman began, but Pietro's glare to him cut him off cold.

"Speak with Nicholas Fury if you wish to question our authority," Pietro said, jabbing an angry finger at the high up and far away lights of the helicarrier that hovered on the edge of the city's airspace. "He allows us to function, I suggest you take his example."

He turned his head over his shoulder to cast one glance at his sister, and then in a swoop of movement, he was gone, streaking through the city, out over the bay, and across to Liberty Island, where so many people had seen that first glimpse of the Statue of Liberty as a chance at a better life. He ran, up the statue like a mountain climber, using the sculpted folds of her gown, and his lack of fear of falling, until he reached the golden flame of her torch, and there he slumped, glaring out at the city in the distance and seeing no hope, no happiness, no great life.

He saw only his family being wrenched apart, the only person in the world who accepted him totally and without misunderstanding or fear taken from him by someone who was bound to get her killed, or worse.

Damn this country, damn its ideas of unaccountability in the name of freedom. Damn the whole thing. Miserable, alone and unable to understand why Wanda would need whatever it was she got from Alister, he slouched in the shadow of this symbol of liberty and cursed it all.

And, he never even understood his hypocrisy.

Which was the tragedy of Pietro Django Maximoff.
