The sour tone that had sprung back into Pietro’s voice broke through the dumbfounded dazedness. Billy stared at the speedster and then back at his twin sister, unable to shake the feeling of complete awe and… something… humility? Maybe. All the warlock knew was that he couldn’t even begin to think how someone like him had witnessed and was privy to something so profoundly huge.

Quicksilver finished with “I fear I am confusing us all,” which made Billy’s eyebrows rise. Him confuse them? Currently Pietro was the most sensible thing in the room.

But Wanda then wandered off into another verbal journey, whirling her fingers at her temples. Billy cringed at the action, but slowly, steadily, he found his mind settling back into this reality. Games consoles. Beds. Washing dishes. As much as they had thrown him far from the confines of this place, Wanda’s words rooted him back into it like the potted plants she was informing him of.

“I’m good at Soul Caliber,” he said faintly, then gawked at her as she quipped, “Or you can stand here and I will cut your hair.”

“Ahh! What?” he grabbed at his bangs and pulled a pinch into view, going cross-eyed as he stared at it, just to make sure she hadn’t summoned another pair of ethereal scissors and had started chopping at it. “You sound like my mom,” he finally complained, ruffling his fingers through the mess and then huffing at it as it fell over his eyes once again.

“How can you see all of that… stuff… and just go on as normal?” He hesitated there, wondering if in fact that was a correct deduction at all, that she didn’t seem to be anything near normal, and that in fact the question might have answered itself already, in which case he was doomed.

But what the hell was normal anyway? Was it what he could see with his eyes and hear with his ears? In that case the whole world was insane and he was just a hallucination. Sighing inwardly, he gathered himself together, grasping for all those little bits of his mind that were still rebounding from one side of the pocket dimension to another.

“So… you have a garden?”

Twenty-three years of life together, so much of it in isolated unity, had given the twin children of Magda Lehnsherr an almost preternatural sense of what their compatriot needed. Wanda never awoke from a nightmare to find her brother absent from her side, and Pietro never sank into self despair without finding his sister's arms buoying him up. He turned back to face her, his arms coming up around her and he rested his forehead against hers, "The trouble with being a guiding star, my sister, is that you are sometimes so very far away from the one who needs you most."

She left him to try now and comfort the boy, knowing that Pietro's heart was now settled, and he watched with amusement as she clucked and fussed over him like a mother hen. He wondered at this, how his sister would be as a mother. Would she ever get that chance? Did her mutation condemn her to a life unsuited to the family and the children she deserved? It made him very sad all of a sudden, but he carefully hid it. This was not the time. And, it was amusing the way the boy stumbled backwards and his facade of confused god of chaos cracked, revealing instead petulant teen. It was good to see that the boy was, after all, just a boy.

“How can you see all of that… stuff… and just go on as normal?”
he asked finally and this made Pietro pause.

"How can you not?" the older mutant asked right back. "We did not choose our abilities, but we can choose to master them." He opened the door, and yes, outside the rain had stopped and the sun had managed to pierce the heavy clouds. "What is it your schoolmaster Summers is always spouting about control and responsibility? He is an inflexible man, but not an incorrect one. I think, and forgive me if I am wrong, but if you can make your own reality, if you can warp chaos, if you can make the world change with a thought, then perhaps the simplest way to control it, is to believe that it is possible."
