So Mason(and me for that matter) is brand new. I'm a little overwhelmed at where to start, so I figured I would just post here. I'm open for anything around the institute or anywhere else in New York; I can probably find a reason for him to do anything. He's been around the institute for about three years, so if anyone is wanting a thread there, we could talk about what kind of relationship he would have with your character. Thanks in advance. |

Punches from the Punch Dimension

In game time, we'll just returned from major battles around the world with the four Horsemen of Apocalypse, and we're about to begin the next phase. Several groups are being evacuated to a safe location, a few people at a time. Ruckus was signed up to be on the last group out, which will run into trouble. You can intro him, with any of the open threads set after April 7th. Some of the students are having their troubles dealing with things, while others are gathering for training purposes. |

@Cyclops: Thank you, that clarifies several things for me. @Gale: Mason's not a teacher, but he has been around the institute for awhile and is one of the older members of the Jr. Xmen, I would think. |

5:00pm: April 10th 2009 Something you have to get used when fighting crime is your line of work is that sometimes crooks can be people too. Batman would disagree, but he's not real and nobody listens to him. Nobody should. But then again if a person could talk to a fictional character they would have much bigger issues then taking advice from batman. But the point is. Sometimes bad guys aren't eveil monsters. And this was a lesson Chad had been learning daily since he decided to be a super hero. The hardest lesson he has found though is the fact that... Sometimes those people can be kids. Kids....I am so never having kinds. They suck. Not in that ‘Oh whatever happened to them, they used to be such a good person’ kind of way, but… well…teenagers are annoying. He had a bit of internal dialogue with himself. It helped to keep things in prospective. The job could get to you and he was not in the mood to have a depressed life. He was doing good things. And if that meant he had to talk to himself at times he was all for it. Most of the fighting had ended. Just small little outbursts here and there but none of them seemed as bad at it had been before. But Chad couldn't worry about that right now. He stumbled on two teenage mutants trying to loot a local store. And he really had better places to be but crime was crime. And he would do his best to stop it. He had been trying to take them out without hurting them not knowing how much they could take. And this plan had found him mainly jumping from building to building with the flying one. And he had grown very tired of it. “Get him, man! Get him, get him, get him!” The moron in the green suit has been yelling that at the guy with the wings for over an hour now. Clearly these were not the A list mutants you see on TV. Who knew what the green guy did. But the guy with wings was kinda clear. But his little stubby talon arms made it hard for him to grab a hold of anything. Chad couldn't help but smirk under his mouth at how useless his powers where. He slowed down a little finally ready to make his move. “I-I got him! I got him, I got him, I got him! I…” “Got a hand full of zip and a bucket fulla zilch.” Chad taunted as he clamped his hand around the other man's wrist, letting go of the builing ledge he had stopped on earlier. He slapped the palm of his other hand against the armored chest plate, altering their flight path so they didn’t splatter across the side of the oncoming apartment building. Chad twisted his full weight around the pads the man wore and flung himself up and over the guy, leaning back so he landed on the back. Mounting the man like you would a flying horse. If horses could fly that is. He managed to cross his legs over the neck brace, pushing down on his shoulder pads to take control and get them back down to street level manually because Chad just didn't have the heart to punch him. “Hi I'm Mutant 2099. I'm going to be your captain for the day. But first let me ask you something. Ever flown economy before? No? You’re gonna hate it.” A couple stared out at them as they flashed past their apartment window, one gigantic black wing grazing the railing of their balcony and almost pitching the two around and through the French doors. Chad was quickly getting tired of this little side brawl. And twisted the man down towards the ground sending them on a line at his partner. The whole flying thing had Chad scared out of his mind but he was sure there was nothing that could have gotten worse for him. But in a second he quickly wished he hadn't thought that. “OHHHH MY GOD NOOOOOOOOOOOHHOOOHOOOOOOOAGGHHHHHHH!” Yeah, he screamed a lot. That also scared him alot. “Relax, I might not be one of your fancy licensed pilots, but I’ve seen Top Gun a million times and I’m really intuitive.” Chad said with a slight hint of sarcasm. As they were a few feet from the other guy. Chad hopped off the side and watched as the bird man when crashing into his buddy. The two of them screamed and yelled and slammed into a wall a tangled mess. Chad was pretty sure that would take care of them. And he quickly leaped and pushed himself into the air propelling himself towards mutant town. Luckily there was no more random crimes for him to stop. He landed in front of the X-factor building. Mutant town was looking rough. But so was the rest of New York. He looked around through the lenses of his mask and couldn't make out much movement. He was hoping someone would be here. His town was a wreak and he needed help is trying to piece if back together Not like he expected to get far. They were the big league and he was sure they had bigger things to deal with then his town and it's anti-mutant issues that seemed to be rising up. But it was worth a try. “So anyone home? Luuuuucy?” He called out with a chuckle in his best I love Lucy accent he could muster up. “There has to be someone left...somewhere right?” He asked out loud as he made his way towards the door. Figuring he try knocking or something. Not sure if you could hear a knock or not in a place so big. He inched up towards the front of the building then thought better of it. Super hero bases always had crazy guns and lasers in the movies. Who was he to think that didn't follow over to real life. “Ummm I come in peace! Please don't blast me...please don't blast me....” he said it a few more times as he moved closer to the door and lightly knocked on it. |

Thanks, I may be asking for one. I think Mason wants to get a little bit of hand-to-hand combat training in. He has little to none of this, so someone to maybe have a training session revolving around this would be fun to play out if anyone's interested. |

You know those big budget summer action movies? Odds are there is a big fight scene between the protagonists and their antagonists. Whether they're giant robots that change into cars or super spies who like their martinis shaken and not stirred or super soldiers or whatever the next big craze will be, they're probably going to get into a fight, and there's a pretty strong chance it'll be in the city. Fifty fifty it's New York or Los Angeles. Well, at least a Canadian city that looks a little like New York or Los Angeles anyways. The city will probably sustain all sorts of collateral damage in the ensuing gun/laser/robot fisticuffs fight, but that's ok because the good guys won in the end. You might get a scene of men in hardhats starting to reconstruct the city, but then credits roll and you go home. That's all the reconstruction you see. Well as Alexander learned a few days ago while War ravaged New York City, epic battles between good and evil were rarely as glamorous as they appeared on the silver screen. That was easily the worst day of Alex's relatively short life. He had never been so afraid for his own survival, nor as exhausted and depleted as he was by the time it all was over. He'd also learned another lesson in reality verses fiction in the days following the attack. Reconstruction was a much longer process than they made it out to be in films. A much longer, far more back breaking process. Since there hadn't been any sightings of Apocalypse or his lackeys after their big world ending debut, the X-forces, as Alex had taken to calling them, were on clean up detail. They were of course for the most part still poised to strike when, and it was a when not an if, Apocalypse decided to make his next move, but a few of them were out in the thick of things, trying to to put the world back together. Well, right now Alex wasn't really trying to put the world back together, he was trying to make sure it survived the next attack. His little world that was. X-factor. The building was still standing, and for that they were all very grateful, but if worse came to worse again and New York was struck for the second time, old X-factor HQ might not be so lucky again. That's why Legard was emptying out the contents of X-factor's filing cabinets and placing them nice and neatly into small cardboard boxes, each labeled "Property of X-factor" in Legard's sprawling handwriting. He was just taping up the second to last box when a light rapping noise made him jump and spin around, his eyes panicky and looking for any signs of danger. It took him a second to realize it was just someone knocking. Feeling mighty bashful, Alex got up off his knees and made his way towards the door. He smiled as he caught the one sided conversation of the would be enterer. He sounded like a guy about Alex's age, albeit a nervous guy on the look out for laser fire, but who knew in mutant town? "We're not aliens you know. Well, as far as your concerned we're not..." Alex kept deadpan for his initial line and a few seconds after, but he couldn't keep it up and a smile crept into his face. "Alex, X-factor, what can I do for you?" A hand stretched out for handshake accompanied his greeting to the young man. Alex might not be worth much in a fight, but he certainly had the razzle dazzle down pat. And in the end, isn't that all you really need? |

Chad couldn't help but smile under his mask. Not like anyone could have seen it but it was there. He was getting to meet like one of the big time heroes. Not like he really knew what made someone a big time super hero. But they had a base, and he had seen them on TV so that counted as the big leagues right? He winced slightly at how dumb his I come in peace sounded. But the world was going crazy he figured some slack could be cut. He reached out and shaked the guy named Alex's hand. Who had told him he was a member of X-factor. Which was good news. Since that was who Chad had coming looking for. He debated on how to introduce himself. But figured. Alex wasn't a code name...and if it was then it was the worst code name ever. Not like Chad's was the best but he would never say that or really think it. “I'm Chad. Crime-fighter.” He was very proud of himself for his job. Not like he really knew how to do anything but cause a crap load of property damage and beat up thugs. But hey someone had to fight for the little man right? And who better then a little guy. But that was beside the point. His life goals and current experience was not why he was here. He was here for help. And he still needed to ask about that so he figured he should get to it. “I know I'm not like a member of your super club. And do have a cool X logo or anything. But this was the best place I figured to go. I been trying to do my best on my own back over the bridge in Brooklyn where I tend to do my thing. But there is a ton of really unhappy people. And a ton of really scared and pissed off mutants all over the place. And I'm kinda in over my head. Down the shits creek with no paddle. And any other catchy phrase for saying I have no clue what to do type deal. And your like the “Mutant Police” so I figured I'd come and see if someone could tell me what is going on and why no one on TV seems to be able to tell me anything besides Mutants have gone crazy.” He was confused. Frustrated. And slightly scared. A few days ago his biggest issues was how to stop a bunch of drug dealers who's bullets couldn't hurt him. And now he was duking it out with other mutants who needless to say kicked his ass pretty good at times. He was hoping someone could tell him what was going on. And why the world was going crazy. Because he may not know what, whys, who's, and whats. But he knew crazy was bad. |

Alex was a little taken aback by the way the young man standing on his door step so brazenly labeled himself. That may sound a little funny coming from a kid who was in a certified grade-A vigilante club, but it wasn't often that he ran into someone else who shared his profession. Especially not someone who talked about it so openly. Wasn't X-factor supposed to be the only public crime fighter group? But maybe that was just what went for professional courtesy in the biz. Legard didn't know how the citizen justice community really worked, but what the hell, the kid seemed nice enough. Before Alex could invite the guy in for a drink and then ease into the subject of what X-factor could do for him, as was per usual, the man beat him to the punch. That was refreshing enough, not having to deal with idle small talk before they got down to business. The kid was direct, Legard have to give the crime fighter that. Or maybe no one was in the mood for such frivolities during the end of the world. Maybe a little of both. As long as they were cutting to the meat and potatoes of the issue, it didn't matter why. The kid had a good point. Alex hadn't really given much thought to how upsetting it must be to be one of the billions of people who had no idea what was going on, or what was coming next. These people had to know next to nothing about any one of the things that were going on in their world. All of a sudden plagues and famines and hordes of monsters were pouring into their homes and they didn't even have a clue who caused it. Alex didn't even know what people were saying about who was behind it. He didn't blame them for blaming these problems on mutants. Hell, they were right weren't that? Apocalypse had to be a mutant, right? What else could he be? A god? Alex really didn't want to think about that. "Oh man, this is such a long story." Alex said with a chuckle. It was either to laugh or to cry, and Legard still wanted to look sort of tough in front of this new guy. I mean, this kid seemed to really admire X-factor, wouldn't want him to find out they're all a bunch of wimps. They weren't all wimps after all. Just Jamie. "You should probably come in, or you could be standing out here for a while." Alex led him inside to lobby/sitting room, which crafted the illusion that X-factor was some sort of organized legitimate operation and not a bunch of mutants with too much time on their hands. He made a wide sweeping gesture towards the chairs in the room, indicating his new found friend could sit anywhere he liked. Legard himself perched on the back of one of the chairs, as per usual. "Listen man, I think it sucks that no one really knows what's going on in the world, but I don't have the authority to go out and tell everyone what limited information I know, or at least I think I know. The whole situation is really confused. But I'm sure I can get away with telling you. Besides, if you go to the media it's not like anyone's going to believe a thing you say anyways." Again he laughed, rather than break down in impotent anger. "So listen, there's this guy right? I think he's a mutant. But not like me, I'm a small fry. I'm sure you know that X-factor is all mutants, right? Anyways, this guy has some serious fire power. Where was I? Oh, right. So for some reason he wants to try and create hell on earth, to make it like some sort of test for everyone, see if they can survive. Darwinism at its finest I guess. Why he wants to do that? I don't know. But he's got all sorts of backing and as far as we know he's behind all these attacks. And then some probably." Alex paused for a breath, good thing he decided to tell the kid the short version. "Any questions?" |
