It was a grim job at best, but Guido thought he was the one that was probably the only one that was up for it. Poor Alex had gone through a crapstorm. Guido hadn't had a chance to actually talk to him yet, but he'd had enough talks with enough people to know when it was raining crap.

The last thing Alex wanted to think about when he came home was this whole Apocalypse/end of the world nonsense. Guido was pretty sure the guy had to feel terrible about it, but hey-everyone makes mistakes, he always said.

With a heavy heart, Guido shuffled through the headquarters, looking for anything that might accidentally remind Alex of the horrific ordeal. He opened the DVD case and pulled out Apocalypse Now, shoving it into an unmarked duffel bag.

Following that was some cutesy little statuettes of horses (man, that's the last thing the guy needed to see), and just about anything depressing he could find in Alex's room. To be honest, he wasn't really sure what he was putting in the sack at this point. If it looked questionable, it was gone. Period.

What Alex needed more than anything was to think about the good things in life. He needed to remember that there was beauty in the world and that it was worth living for.

Reverently Guido stepped over to an unoccupied section of wall in Alex's room and took a deep breath. What he did he did only out of the deepest love and respect for a leader and a friend. Solemnly he unfurled a large poster and gingerly pinned it to the wall.

He stepped back for a moment to admire his handiwork and then swiftly left the room without so much as a word.

Is it gettin' misty in here, or is it just me?

Place in timeline: a few hours after When I Close My Eyes.

Mutant 2099 brought her back to X-factor as she'd requested from him. When he set her down, she stood at the door for a minute just staring at it. Then, as though there was no hesitation, she opened the door. She picked up a sweatshirt someone had left in the sitting area. One could tell that she was weak and tired by her shaky movements and her clinging to a wall every now and then. However, she did not sit to rest. After washing the blood off from her nose bleed she took off her blood stained shirt and slipped on the sweatshirt. Tea was made and placed on the a coffee table in the gathering area.

Steam lifted off the hot liquid in the china tea cup. Violey stared at it as though she wanted to drown herself in it. Scenes that played across her mind's eye made her lose sight of the present. An empty bed and a broken window brought her to jump out of it only to allow the winds to carry her. The sound of a gun shot made her ears ring. Lessons she'd been taught came to mind as she attempted to stop the elven's bleeding wound. The scene shifted to devastation from an unknown blast. A ring tinted from the rubble. Tears over poured her eyes as realized she'd lost someone. A giant metal man made a statement she could not recall. The scene shifted again to an island where horrors in life were renewed. Teammates, friends were swallowed up by vines. Lighting blasted and the hammer of a god brought the creature to its end.

Every terrible event prior to today were mere flicks of memory. They could not compare to the destruction that had occurred. New York was in shambles. People everywhere died. "No more," Violey finally whispered as she blew the steam coming from her tea. A noise made her look toward the stairs. Where was everyone? Maybe the rest of X-factor went to the mansion. So far she'd only seen Guido. She looked back at her tea. It acted as a reflection pool of past events. Another quick scene shot across her mind. This time more recent. A disease-ridden man surround by injured people in an infirmary.

"Guido, 'ave some tea," Violey offered the moment he entered the room. She was tired and should of been resting, but she just continued to sip her tea.

"Guido, 'ave some tea."

“Yipe!”

Guido had just stepped out of Alex’s room, and the last time he checked the whole headquarters had been pretty much empty. That was why he almost besheist himself when he heard a woman’s voice address him no sooner than he had cleared the doorway. Despite himself, Guido yelped just a little and then leaned heavy against the already splintered door.

It was just the jolt he needed to bring him out of his funk.

“Tea?” He said skeptically, as he pulled his arm out of the hole in the door. Tiny bits of wood rained down onto the floor with every brushing motion of his hands. “Okay,” he said with a shrug. “Only if there’s crumpets.” He had no idea what a crumpet was.

Guido helped himself to a cup, trying to be careful with it although it was horribly undersized for his huge hands. Still, it was nice to be polite, Mama Carosella had always said. He sat down on the nearest chair and pinched the ear of the teacup gingerly between his thumb and forefinger. It looked like The Incredible Hulk had crashed Barbie’s tea party.

The tea was drained in one small sip.

“Mmm,” he intoned as he set the thimble down on the table. “That sure hit the spot.”

This was followed by a small bout of awkward silence while Guido drummed his fingers on the arm of the chair, and tapped out the backbeat to some random heavy metal song on his foot. He whistled and then he took a long look at Violey. Deep curiosity finally won out.

“So how are you holdin’ up, V? For real.”

“Yipe!”

Violey turned so abruptly that tea sloshed over the rim of her cup. It burned but she didn't pay mind to it just yet. "Guido, did my offer frighten you?" Violey asked. Scaring him was the last thing she wanted. The tea that split was only a bit. It'd cooled enough so she didn't react by dropping the cup. Even so a reddish mark spread where the tea landed. Did he just put a whole through the door? "Tea? 'Ave some, yes." she repeated.

Wood rained down onto the floor. By initial inspection, Headquarters fared well in the hurricane. The damage caused appeared non-existent compared to the remnants of the city. If it hadn't been lessened and finally stopped then the winds from the hurricane would have caused much more mass devastation.

"No, there are no crumpets. If you would like something to eat with your tea, I am sure there are cakes little Debbie made in the cupboards." Without the cakes Guido poured himself some tea and drank it in one sip. At least it seemed like one sip. Next time she went shopping Violey would make sure to get Guido a larger teacup. It appeared he was being very careful not to break it. "I am glad you enjoyed it," she said quietly.

Silence ensued. Guido reacted uncomfortably to it. He whistled and tapped his feet. Violey sipped her tea but she too began to feel uncomfortable. What seemed like a long time Guido finally started a conversation. How was she for real? Violey didn't reply straight away.

With her right thumb and index finger she made a motion as though she was pinching air. A small vortex formed over her tea cup. The steam spiraled and eventually tea got caught in the vortex. It was small enough so little concentration was required. Violey looked at Guido with a solemn look. The tiny tea tornado was nothing more than a parlor trick.

"I find mutant life difficult to believe at times," Violey finally answered. "Two years 'ave almost passed since I started to want more power to control. This mad bringer of the end disrupted the very winds and caused that ungodly storm." The vortex got bigger but didn't reach over the edges of the cup. She sounded anxious, mad, and little worried mixed together.

"I do not know what is anymore. The state of my family causes me worry. Do you 'ave worry?" Violey asked. For a few moments she stared quietly at the small vortex. When she started to speak again she didn't look at Guido. "Feats I never thought possible my powers were able to achieve," she said as she continued to stare at her wind creation.

When V answered his question by pinching her index finger toward her thumb, Guido thought maybe he was missing something. He never did quite learn sign language, and maybe she was trying to tell him-

The steam began to swirl around over the top of her cup as she stared at it, and when a tail dropped down from the steam vortex and made a mini twister, Guido pursed his lips together and whistled low and slow.

He still wasn’t sure what she was trying to tell him, but that there was cool!

"I find mutant life difficult to believe at times," Violey finally answered. "Two years 'ave almost passed since I started to want more power to control. This mad bringer of the end disrupted the very winds and caused that ungodly storm."

The thing grew bigger, and Guido thought maybe he should go get some paper towels for the inevitable. Not that it would have mattered. V hardly even noticed that Guido was in the room anymore.

"I do not know what is anymore. The state of my family causes me worry. Do you 'ave worry?"

Guido didn’t answer, but he stared at the floor space between them. Did he have worry? She had no idea.

"Feats I never thought possible my powers were able to achieve."

That Guido could relate with. Pursing his lips together, he looked back at the cyclone and then over at Violey. “How old were ya when you first...broke wind?”

In the process of speaking her thoughts Violey had forgotten of her speaking to Guido. The only thing which existed were her thoughts and the vortex. She didn't realize Guido's reluctance to answer her question on whether he had worries or not. Even if he didn't have reluctance he still didn't answer her. He then purposed a question to her that made Violey blink.

When was the first time she broke... wind? The vortex shrunk back down to its original size. It still twirled across the tea's surface as if it belonged there. Guido's phrasing of the question could have been better. It reminded her of the students back at Xavier's when she first got there. They tried to catch her off guard and admit to things she didn't quite understand. Being able to speak English fluently didn't mean she understood it. Remembering the phrase from back then made her give a small smile. Those were simpler times.

"I am unsure when my powers began to emerge," Violey confessed truthfully. "Incidents in my childhood were the wind picked up without warning were common occurrences. Much later, probably twelve years of age, did stranger occurrences appear. Wind picked up or lessened without warning. Odd breezes would travel quickly down the long corridors. Objects pushed off tables or pages of books fluttering were the most frightful."

She took notice of the vortex again. There was no more steam emitting from it so her tea was probably cold. Violey then looked back up at Guido. "My country is... sheltered. Stories of people who possessed amazing, ungodly powers were brought back by those who traveled to other countries. I was told these people did not exist so when the occurrences started I did not believe them and became afraid. At fourteen years of age the pigmentation of my face began to change. By then I knew of my connection to the wind but not of my being the 'mutant' from the stories my father denied."

The aerokinetic seemed to be altogether now. Her being lost in thought was no more. She knew Guido was enjoying tea with her and she realized how rude she had been while answering Guido's initial question. Violey knew she had been ignoring the presence of the one she was having a conversation with, again.

"Would you care if I poured you some more tea?" she offered. Then after she filled Guido's tea cup (before he could even reply) she set down the tea pot and paused. "My father still does not know of my being a mutant," Violey said. Then, as thought the statement wasn't strange or the hesitation in saying it hadn't happened, she asked, "When was the time you first discovered your strength?"

Guido liked Violey just fine. The only real problem was that there was a real…formality about her. No, that wasn’t it exactly. She was really…uptight? Guido didn’t know the right word for it, but it definitely came across when she talked. She was like that librarian that you always saw in the movies who kept her hair all up in a tight little bun by day and at night turned into a wild she-devil.

No, that wasn’t it…

But it did give a clue as to what kind of movies Guido watched.

Still, though he couldn’t quite put it to words, Guido felt certain that Violey could stand to loosen up a little. Maybe it’s a French thang. He wasn’t sure how he was going to do it, but he vowed that he would try to get her to let it loose. Especially in these times. The last thing anyone needed to be doing was bottling up all the ugly inside.

While she talked about her powers and her country, Guido studied her intently. She seemed to be slipping in and out of the here and now, and something other than her powers seemed to be just a little airy. Maybe more so than normal.

"Would you care if I poured you some more tea?"

Before the word ‘no’ could reach his lips, he was holding another cup full.

“My father still does not know of my being a mutant." Guido noticed that the extra hot cup of tea felt rather steamy on his lap, and moved it over to a different longitude/latitude. When he looked up he noticed Violey looking at him. "When was the time you first discovered your strength?"

“Right after I got hit by a Greyhound.” He took a sip without the cooling blow first and scorched his tongue so much that it hurt to talk. But he had to finish his thought, or it would just be plain rude, so he continued with tears in his eyes. “I was suppwised dat I wived twu it. But duh next ting I knew I was supa stwong!”

Bedebedebede That's all folks!

Violey had dissipated the twister in her tea moments before she poured Guido another cup. She was unaware of her phasing in and out during the conversation. If she had been able to then she would have realized that a part of her drifted back to when she was little. Her childhood hadn't been the best. It was full of strict lessons and secrecy. Even so, as she explained to Guido her mind went back to her home country.

"Your strength emerged after a greyhound hit you?" Violey repeated. How could a greyhound cause such an impact that would force a mutation? Greyhounds were cute little racing dogs who were bred for speed and not muscle. Violey's eyes followed Guido as he lifted the cup to his lips. He burnt his tongue. Instead of waiting for his tongue not hurt he continued to talk. A frown appeared on her two-toned lips. What language did he just speak in?

After a moment of concentration, the frown turned into a smile. Whatever the language was it sounded close to English. She succeeded in decoding it. "Not a dog but a bus," Violey said with comprehension growing on her face. Greyhound was a name of a bus company she recalled at last. "Did the bus injure you at all?"

Violey would find Guido sweet if she could have heard his thoughts. If the thing about trying to help her was correct then Violey would be happy. The air about her was formal, yes, but there was more. It was as if she didn't know where she fit in the world. "Why were you in the path of a bus," she asked at last. Violey didn't know if Guido wanted to talk about when his powers emerged. She, she just was curious all of a sudden.

Guido fanned the poor flap of flesh he liked to call a tongue while Violey sorted out the fact that he was hit by a bus and not a dog. To her question he could only shrug and look a little sheepish.

"It's one of tha big reasons that you don't wanna wear yer iPod while walkin' around downtown," he said. Kids did that kind of junk all the time. He should be a spokesperson for it. MP3 buds in the ears and you could turn into a super strong mutant.

"Actually I used to be kind of on the nerdy side," he confided behind his hand. "Skinny little kid with glasses. Kind of a bookworm too." Guido actually made good grades when he had applied himself. The problem was, he always had sort of the class clown thing going too. "Not really shy or nothin', just built like a couple of broomsticks stacked up with a mop top."

His phone rang.

Guido set the little porcelain cup down and glanced at the screen. He pursed his lips together and looked apologetically at Violey. "Sorry, tea time's gonna hafta be postponed. I gotta get this."

With a slight groan he hefted his own weight off the couch and hurried out of the room. "Lila? Hey! No. I wasn't. No. No. No. I can't. I'd love to! You're kidding! When? Yes. No. No. No. No. Okay." As he walked the words became quieter and quieter until he was out of earshot.

(end scene-we can pick up elsewhere some other time)

Chad had left her to do her thing. He didn't want to seem all stalker like so he took off to see what else he could do around town. No rest for a crime fighter. Least that was how his lift had shaped up. He made a few rounds helped a few people. Let some time pass. And then he went back he couldn't help it. She looked like she just gone 12 rounds in punch out with Mike Tyson. And if you ever played punch out you knew Mike Tyson his like a son of a bitch.

He opened the slowly and walked in. Last time he was in her things turned out interesting on him. As he stepped in he saw the big guy and jumped back a few steps. A grin on under the mask.

“I come in peace Gudio no need to crack my back again I promise!”

He said it with a joking tone his sense of humor always in place. He was dying under his mask and undid the straps of what was left of it to let a little more air in. He looked around the room and sae Ventus. And cracked a smile under his mask. She seemed to shaping up to be heading back to tip top shape. He walked over towards and leaned on the wall.

“So how's super girl holding up? Getting your land legs back? Or do I just get to carry you everywhere from here on out?”

He said half joking half serious. They had been through enough serious a few jokes couldn't hurt here and there. At least they never hurt in his mind. Humor made the world go round and Chad had enough to go a few times over.
