[JP Lorna and Alex]

It was so strange to be here in this room after so long, everything looked exactly the same except for a large Lila Cheney poster slapped on the wall, apparently a gift from Guido, he'd been told. Alex wondered how long Lorna was going to allow THAT up there. Likely not very long. He sat on the bed, feet on the floor, hands twisting the image inducer on it's chain. He still wore the holographic version of his face, wearing the same uneasy hangdog expression... but in the normal skin and hair tones that he'd been born with, hiding the fading but still present remnants of War.

"Maybe I should sleep in the office for a while," he said, "I mean... maybe that would be best."

Lorna moved around the room a little nervously, tidying various items that probably didn’t need tidying, particularly considering she had cleaned up the room for Alex’s return only a few hours earlier. Her green eyes drifted towards where he sat on the bed, finding it strange and relieving to see him there, back in their room, but she felt a little awkward. It was normal, though, she tried to remind herself. Not that she really had any basis for comparison, or even knew of anyone who she could compares notes with. However, she was sure that there was going to be a little bit of awkwardness between them until they settled back into their lives again.

“No, I don’t think that would be best.” Lorna replied as she left the clothes she had been fiddling with and crossed to sit down on the bed next to Alex. “I want us to be together again properly. I spent too long without you.” She reached out and took his image inducer and clicked it off, reaching out to trace the pale grey skin of his jawline with gentle fingers. “Is there anything you want to do to settle in a little better? Except keep that poster?”

She sat next to him, and took the image inducer away, "Don't..." he protested, though not very forceably. Alex knew her enough to know that it was futile. He sighed, as the hologram faded, looking down at his hands, darker than his face, the tips of his fingers still almost black. She wanted to be with him, she wanted him here, but was that right? Was she clinging to something that could never be again? Was there any hope of things going back to normal when he was responsible for so much evil?

She touched his face and Alex pulled away. "Lorna, there's a lot I want to do, but honestly, I don't know how much of it I deserve. Piet's pissed, I get that, but he's not wrong. I've been proving over and over how much of a loser I really am. You're just going to keep getting hurt by me."

Alex drew back from her, and Lorna dropped her hand to her lap, twisting her fingers together as she looked down, trying not to feel hurt or rejected. She listened to his concerns carefully, staying quiet for a moment before lifting her gaze to look at him again, steadily. “Please don’t listen to Piet, baby, you know what he’s like. No one else is thinking the same things as him. You’re strong and brave, and no matter how many times you get knocked down, you keep getting back up again. What’s more than that you keep picking up the people around you. That’s what the team needs from their leader and there is no one more suited for this position that you. You’re not a loser, Alex, and you’ll never be one.” She said softly. “As for hurting me...” she shrugged and smiled a little. “I’m tough... you’re not getting rid of me that easily.”

"It's not about the team though, babe," Alex said, quietly. He looked up at her, his blue eyes strangely the same even against his slate grey face. "I almost killed you, and even if it hadn't hurt you the way it did, it would have turned you into... whatever the hell you would have been beneath Apocalypse. Lorna, all you have ever done is try to save me, from the minute we met you've been trying to save me, and every single time, I get you hurt, or almost killed, or hell, get the memories knocked out of your head." He stood up, moving as far away as this small room allowed and he said, "I love you so damn much, that I hate myself more and more each time I..." He looked away, "You deserve better and all I can think of right now is how long it's been since we've... and now much I want you right now."

Lorna didn’t follow him across the room, though she desperately wanted to, longing to hold him and be held by him. “I love you too, Alex, so much. I don’t care about any of the rest. None of this was your fault, you were as much a victim as anyone out there.” She paused for a moment, wondering how she could convince him.

“As for the rest, I’m a big girl, I can make my own decisions and deal with the consequences. I decided to go to the Savage Land and to confront you in Washington, I can deal with with a bout of an insomnia and a scar if it means I’m with you.” She said softly and got to her feet, moving until she was about half way between him and the bed, closer, but still enough to give him room. “And believe me, I’m thinking about how long it’s been too.”

Alex looked over his shoulder at her and said, "I don't like you seeing me like this. I don't like this memory of the monster who hurt you thrown in your face, this demonic skin tone, this anger inside me. But I want to sleep in your arms, tonight, Lorna, I want so badly to be with you. You saved my life, you woke me up from that nightmare. I owe you so much, and I so selfishly need you to comfort me right now and tell me we can survive this."

“Then we can turn the image inducer back on, if that’s what you’re more comfortable with.” Lorna pointed out, feeling guilty for turning it off, but wanting him to realise that he didn’t need it when he was with her. She loved him whether he was the grey of the former Horseman or his normal tanned skin tone. Slowly she stepped closer to him, though he was turned away from her, until her body was lightly against his back and she slipped her arms around his waist, hugging him from behind and resting her head on his broad back.

"If it’s selfish to want to be held, then I’m selfish too.” Lorna said gently, planting a kiss on his shoulder blade, through the material of his shirt. “I don’t want to be alone in this room anymore. I missed you more than I can ever put into words. The only thing I want right now is to be close to you.”

He turned in her arms and slipped his arms around her. "Lorna, I don't know that I'm ever going to be who I was again, but maybe because of you, I can at least be better than I am." He kissed her, deeply, passionately, and with months of separation and loss. It was absolutely without any of the anger and unhappiness that had plagued him since his conversion into War, it was needy, it was desperate and it was uncontrolled, but it was delivered with absolute love. She was in his arms and he lifted her and carried her to the bed. "Babe," he whispered, softly, "I love you so much, so much. I'm never going to leave you, not like that, ever again, ever again."
