PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

HEIGHT:5’2
BUILD: Athletic build
EYES: Blue
HAIR: Long, white blonde, usually straight

Jac is somewhat of a tomboy, her hair being one of her few feminine features. It hangs long and often loose and usually could do with a good brushing, as it tangles easily. Her skin is lightly tanned from being outdoors, as she favours physical activities to being trapped inside, doing very little with her time, but she has a natrually pale complexion and what little tan she has on occasion does not come easily.

Standing at about average height, if just on the smaller side of average, she is also relatively stocky, but definitely not chunky looking. She has the appearance of a runner and her legs are especially well toned in appearance. While not stunning, she can make the best of her looks when she feels the need to and can handle a mascara wand and some eye shadow with reasonably good results and often wears a little to bring out her features. She is not someone you would notice in a crowd on first glance, being really quite average when all is said and done.

DISTINGUISHING MARKS: A spike in her running speed has had the strange result of Jac's hair becoming an unnaturally pale blonde.

CLOTHING STYLE:

Jac spends the majority of her time in sportswear, baggy shorts, tank tops, skate shoes or Converse (which she gets through at an incredible rate due to her abilities) and basically anything that will allow her freedom of movement and preserve her dignity while she is indulging in either her powers or her passion for extreme sports. This generally means she gets trapped in often boyish styles of clothing, hence the tomboy image she presents. However, she does have a few items of clothing such as skirts and a pretty top or two, which will remind those around her that she is indeed female. Dressing up is usually reserved for special occasions, such as nights out to the bar, trips around town if she knows for certain she will have no need to run and so on, as she favours practicality over style any day of the week, though when she goes for style she generally maintains a rocky, rebellious edge.

Her clothing generally is not what you would consider top of the line, or expensive, especially shoes. All Jac’s shoes are bought from sales, or occasionally, from bargain price stores. She is by no means thrifty however; the speeds at which is can and often runs, mean she wears down the soles of her shoes quickly and so rather than holding back on running, Jac instead scrimps on what she pays for her footwear. Another favoured item of clothing is a cap, as she often wears one to keep her hair back when running, the bonus of course that it conceals her face when the brim is pulled down. A typical outfit would be simply a pair of shorts, usually below the knee, never hotpant style, a shirt and whatever pair of shoes that weren’t falling to pieces when she grabbed under her bed that morning. Laundry, or more accurately, ironing are relatively too much effort to Jac, as she had one of those mothers who never allowed her to do housework, and so most of her clothes have never been ironed, which gives her something of a rumpled appearance. She means to eventually get around to perfecting the technique, but life is far too short in her opinion.

UNIFORM: Since joining the Brotherhood, Jac has recieved a black bodysuit with yellow 'racing stripes' down the sides. She often wears a short, hooded jacket over her suit that has pockets (naturally for snacks) and she also has a belt with pouches, should she need it. Her uniform is completed by specially made, highly durable boots. When she needs to, Spitfire uses a pair of sunglasses to conceal her identity.

Since becoming a Defender, Jac's suit is similar to her BH uniform, but is yellow in colouring, with some red details.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Superspeed – Jac has the ability to run and move at superhuman speeds, currently up to around 450mph (500mph maximum) in optimal conditions and for periods of up to an hour at full speed without rest, before she becomes fatigued, unless she keeps up her intake of calories. However at lower speeds, she can run for many hours without the need to stop. Her reaction time is twice as fast as the average human. When Jac runs, she often leaves behind her a trail of non damaging flames, that quickly burn out, marking her path. Since joining the Brotherhood, she has learnt how to run across water, up walls and can also create small cyclone effects by running in a tight circle at her maximum speed.

Adapted Physiology – Due to her speed, Jac’s body is perfectly adapted to the strains of running at speeds. She has advanced cardiovascular and respiratory systems to help her body cope and she also metabolised about 50% of the caloric energy of the food she consumes. Her chemical processes are advanced to the degree that her body does not create fatigue poisons (which make a normal person need to rest) at the same speed as everyone else, meaning she can go on for a lot longer. Her skin has hardened, almost like a sort of body armour, to create resistant to the speeds at which she runs and her bones and tendons are also much stronger and her joints are much smoother and create natural lubrication much more efficiently than the average human. Her heightened metabolism, as well as making her need a very high intake of food, means she is quite resilient, especially to impact related injuries. Due to running at such speeds, she has a degree of super strength in her legs and leg press up to 550lbs with little effort.

WEAKNESS:

Jac’s powers are merely speed based, and while she is durable due to her thickened skin, she is by no means invulnerable, so will still be harmed by being struck by an opponent. She can be stopped while running, and is not entirely durable to most forms of attacks, especially those on her mind. Her powers also depend on a great deal of energy from the food she consumes, meaning she needs a steady intake of high calorie, high energy foods.

PERSONALITY

Jac is about your average English girl. She had a very normal upbringing in a very normal town, leaving her generally well adjusted, but also very keen on developing her own personality once out in the great wide world. Over the years she experimented with different niches at school; the nerds, the goths, the cool kids, the stoners, until she found her place with the sports crowd. Developing the power to run at great speeds helped this along and she became very dedicated to extreme sports, her former passion. Jac, when seen past her usually loud, often sarcastic demeanour, is polite and quite courteous, if a little energetic and excitable at times. She will curb this energy when it comes to paying attention and following orders, doing what is needed to be done.

She is generally a friendly, agreeable person, unless you cross her, then you really wish you didn't, as she has something of a temper and something of a mouth on her and she is not afraid to tell you exactly what she thinks of you. Jac is very stubborn and very loyal to whatever cause she sides with. She is also highly patriotic to England and likes to make the most of her accent and various terminology that is mostly confined to Britain. From a young age, she was always a fan of wartime films, something that infected her with a bold, daring streak, like the war heroes preserved in black and white. Of particular interest to her were films involving the Royal Air Force, which is how she came to choose the codename Spitfire, as a sort of tribute, due to the fact she decided not to enlist following discovering her mutation. But she served with the Air Cadets and reached the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer through sheer stubborn determination.

She seems to constantly buzz with energy and has trouble keeping still sometimes, always giving the impression she wants to be on the move, doing things and keeping active. While she does not perceive everyone else around her to move slower than snails, she can become irritated when people can’t keep up with her fast paced way of life. When she is denied of her snacks, a much loved as well as needed source of energy to the large amount she burns off, she can become quite grumpy and irritated, like a little child, or even headachey and weak in comparison to normal. Jac can also put away quite a large amount of alcohol, due to her metabolic system and can become quite the party animal when she wants to be, a favourite bar game back in England was the ‘Yard of Ale’, a fairly self explanatory game, where the person has to drink from a yard glass, filled with beer.

Over the years, Jac has managed to knuckle down and curb her energy, throwing herself wholly behind Magneto and the Brotherhood. She is a firm believer in the 'dream' and is one of the sanest people in the Brotherhood, which potentially makes her one of the more dangerous members.

HISTORY

Jac was born into a well mannered, loving English family, living in Maidstone, Kent, a county in the south of England, the younger child to Katherine and Montgomery Falsworth. She had a balanced childhood, with somewhat eccentric parents. Her father was a buff on old World War II films – the fact he was named Montgomery, as was a great figure of the war, Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, helped to spur this interest – which Jac inherited a fondness for, spending many rainy Sunday afternoons, sprawled on her front in the living room, beside her father’s armchair, watching them along with her big brother, Brian. She loved the gallant wartime heroes and the planes and even took a fancy to the old fashioned manner of speaking, sometimes peppering her own spoken words with ‘jolly good’ and ‘crikey’ and the like. Her childhood imaginings revolved around fighting in the war, flying planes and beating the bad guys who threatened to take over the whole world. She saw little sympathy for the Nazis in the films, especially as she grew older and learnt about the war in class; they were persecutors, trying to crush out those different from themselves. Later in life, she would occasionally shudder as she thought about persecutions and how differently it was perceived, depending which side you were on.

Her mother was a very house proud woman and one very interested in genealogy; on her own mothers side of the family, there had been members of the aristocracy, a fact of which she made much, paying for a very large, ornate copy of the family tree to be printed and framed and then hung it in the hallway of the family home, so that visitors could observe their noble connections. Jac found this all quite amusing, wondering if ladies had to be very ladylike, seeing as she might very well have been one if things had worked out differently in the history of her family. Jac shared a close relationship with her brother, whom she looked up to and admired a great deal, even if she did tease him for being a bit of a bookworm at times.

Things were normal and stable in the Falsworth house; trips to visit her Grandfather, walks in the park, playing with the dog, bike rides, making cakes, the nice, normal things of a balanced childhood. She loved to read and as a child, read mostly fantasy stories and then developed a love for vampire tales as she got into her teens, devouring books within a few days as well as watching vampire and other horror films, a love she still retains today, more so than her war films of childhood, due to the connotations they now have for her. She also dedicated a great deal of her time to the Air Cadets and reached the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer within her local squadron. It was her ambition to one day join the RAF proper.

Always having something of an aptitude for sports, Jac slowly made her way into that niche during high school. She was not a genius like her brother, but not without brains, and so school was bearable for her, passing for the most part without incident or disaster, aside from those she herself created for some amusement sometimes, as she had always had lots of energy and a great sense of adventure. She attended many societies, involving herself where possible to siphon off all her excess energy and was always busy, which greatly pleased her mother. Jac had various friends from various walks of life, as she had tried to find her niche in just about every social group, but being a sociable person, she retained friends from them all and so was rarely short of something to do.

Around the age of fifteen, Jac discovered that she was leaving flames behind her when she was running the track one morning before school to get in extra practise. Panicking, she started to skip practise, citing the need to revise for her GCSEs to ensure she got good marks. She also began to get ravenously hungry, consuming large bags of crisps and chocolate bars and several rounds of sandwiches before she was satisfied, yet she seemed to be gaining no weight. Her mother worried she might even be bulimic and was trying to get Jac to go to the clinic one day, when Jac turned and ran out of the kitchen, merely a blonde blur, her speed kicking in. Shaking with fright, Jac fled to stay at a friends house for the night, terrified what her parents would make of her sudden display of powers.

The reaction of her parents to her powers was stunned at best and they went through a period of denial on the matter, as it could not be happening to their daughter, their daughter could not be some monster like on the news. The fact that she was their only child was probably what saved Jac from being disowned and thrown out of the house. However, the next few years of her life were strained and distant with her parents at best as they were not quite able to return to the same terms they had once been on with her daughter, unable to look at her in quite the same way. They still cared and they still took care of her, but things were just not the same. To make matters worse, this was not long after Brian had left home to go to university, leaving Jac very isolated and without her big brother to help her through the difficult time she was going through.

Jac left home at the age of eighteen to go to university up in York, aiming to study sports sciences, having gained some control of her abilities so she would not give herself away in a game of netball or suchlike. A military career was now out of the question due to her mutation so instead she felt university was her best option now. Her course quickly led her to an exchange programme in New York and having few ties left in England, she left to complete a year overseas, after a stint of hard work in local pubs and cafes to fund her venture more comfortably than her student loan would allow, wanting a fresh start.

DURING APOCALYPSE:

Things were going well for Jac, until April when Apocalypse struck and the city fell into chaos all around her. The dorm block in which she was living was badly damaged and had become unstable in the storms. Having no alternative, Jac had to out herself as a mutant by using her speed to get her dorm mates out of the damaged structure. Because of the nature of the attacks, she was met with much hostility over the next few days, despite having saved a number of people from the dorm. This increased as anti-mutant feelings grew in the coming weeks and she was met with great resentment that was becoming almost violent from those she had counted as friends. Angry and also afraid of what could happen, Jac took off, dropping out of the university, doubtful she would even be able to complete the year anyway with the state of things and really quite pissed off with all the lovely, ‘normal’ humans who didn’t appreciate being helped and was quite happy to be out of their company. Being persecuted was a very uncomfortable prospect for her, definitely not one she wanted to face on her own and in a strange country.

With no cause to go back home, as from what she had heard to her dismay, the situation was even worse back there, especially as her hometown was not a million miles from London. Having no clue what to do with her life and money running out, she began to wander the ‘bad’ side of town, becoming slightly bitter towards humans, she came across the Brotherhood. While the organisation was something she would never have imagined committing herself in the past, with her recent experiences and nowhere else she could turn to, Jac was at the very least satisfied to join up, now understanding what being a mutant could really entail, if not as severely as some had experienced, another reason she wished to join, so she would never be pushed down and out by humans, having far too much pride for that.

SAMPLE RP POST:

The streets were dark, dancing with eerie shadows from where the moon sliced down into alleys and tiny, winding streets. The city was peaceful now that the footsteps of tourists had faded away with the sunlight. Streetlights shone a ghostly, almost obnoxious orange down on to the cobbles of the ancient streets, worn smooth by many thousands of feet passing through. Thankfully, life at night was confined to few people, those passing through on their way home, or to work at whatever nightshift employment they held, or to the bars on the other side of town. This little pocket of history seemed trapped, safe and sound in a little bubble, away from the modern world and all its troubles.

Jac loved this time of night. She sped down the streets, twisting and turning through the little alleys, cloaked by the overhanging houses, enjoying the freedom the old part of York provided. Of course, the more modern parts provided just as much entertainment to the speedster, but here the girl could run and enjoy it, being so close to the civilised world. Sometimes, she preferred to go out of the city to run, but fields and cows provided small challenges when it came to making quick turns, so then Jacqueline would come to this part of town, treating it rather like a game to be enjoyed. Her power had caused her enough trouble as it was, so she was damn well going to enjoy it when she had the chance, lest she grew to hate it and feel cursed, when it really was a liberating gift, to be able to run and get away from everything, too fast to be caught by any normal person.

Stopping at the entrance to the Shambles, a much loved, old little street, stuffed with overpriced tourist trap shops, she looked back over her shoulder, eyes pleased as she surveyed the dancing trails of flames she left when running. They flickered in the orange lights from above, seemingly burning brighter than they actually did, before they diminished and guttered out, not leaving one scorch mark behind on the street. It was a good thing really; the last thing she needed was a charge of vandalism brought against her name, as it would rather put a damper on her life as she had already gotten a warning from the nice policeman for trying to take a traffic cone home to halls the previous week on a drunken night out with her flatmates. They already had a number of items stolen, such as traffic signs, one of those reflective lights from a roadwork site and a few cones of varying sizes that decorated their flat. One more cone would simply have meant they could have had a game of bowling.

Shaking her head, she lifted her right foot, grabbing it in her hand, pulling it upwards, behind her, so that she could check the sole of her shoe. Swearing, the girl noted that she could see a large patch of the brown rubber worn down to the white base it was glued to. She gave it a poke and sighed heavily again, but at least she couldn’t see her own sock again, or more accurately, the skin of her foot surrounded by a hole in her sock, caused by the friction it was not designed to cope with. Mentally she went through what pairs she had left in her room, then gave the worn patch an irritated rub.

“Flipping heck…Third pair in four months, think I might just be over doing things a tad…” Jac commented to herself, letting her foot drop back down to being on the ground then flicked some blonde hair out of her eyes. Her hand went into the pocket of her jeans, pulling out a Mars bar. It was squashed and pretty melted from being in her pocket since she had bought it a few hours ago and all the running she had just done, but it still did the job. Flopping down on a bench, she carefully peeled the wrapper off the bar as it had stuck into the semi melted chocolate and began to eat it, carefully, well aware that the chocolate and caramel were coating her fingers, making them sticky. She was about done for the night, not wanting to cause more damage to her shoes as she’d have to pull an extra shift at the student union bar before she could get another, replacement pair. Sometimes she really wished there was a webpage out there that catered for all the special people in the world, where she would get some indestructible shoes from. The blonde smirked, knowing if there was such a site, the uni network would have it filtered out, along with anything else worth seeing and freaking your flatmates out with when you left it up on their computer when they were silly and left their door open.

Chocolate finished, she licked her fingertips and feeling refreshed, stood up with a stretch, tossing the crumpled, smeared wrapper into a nearby rubbish bin, cosily located next to a smug little flowerbox, overflowing with nondescript blooms, a little vine trailing carelessly down the side. Hearing a drunken yodel in the distance, Jac tugged the hood up on her school sweatshirt and ducked into an alley. Maybe…she would speed home after all. Working in the student union bar had many perks worth the extra shift and Jac was not one to turn down a sneaky glass of snakebite and black and a packet of cheese and onion crisps or four and that was something making the idea more and more worthwhile, especially as it meant she could replace her shoes and stop for a kebab and chips on her way home now and not worry about the cost. Wasn’t like she had to worry about the calories…
