JP LORNA AND ALEX

Lorna positioned herself in front of the full length mirror situated in the corner of her and Alex's bedroom, looking dubiously at her reflection. “This is ridiculous...” she muttered to herself as she tried to work out the best way of positioning her arms so that she could mostly cover her exposed abdomen. She tugged at the hem of the top and then the waistline of the pants, before letting out a sigh, pushing a gloved hand through her green hair. The new uniforms provided by SHIELD, like most of the changes they had made, did not sit well with her and Lorna was not looking forward to the first time she had to wear the uniform outside of this room.

A whistle sounded at the door. Alex, his pale grey face crossed with the sort of smile that had not been seen in a long long time, leaned against the door frame, "Hubba hubba, I knew there was something good about hooking up with SHIELD. Mmmm, belly shirts." He waggled his eyebrows, and chuckled, "What's the matter, beautiful? Not a happy camper?"

Lorna turned towards the door, rolling her eyes in mock annoyance at his words. “I knew you wouldn't have a problem with any of this.” She replied, gesturing to her body, noting that today that he wasn't using his image inducer to cover the fading visage of War. It didn't bother her particularly, though occasionally she would look at him and remember how he had held her before almost killing her. This was not something she would ever mention to anyone and she did her best to ignore it for the most part.

“They're not exactly discreet are they?” She pointed out as she tugged off her gloves and picked up her engagement ring from the dresser to slip onto her finger, taking a moment to look at it, still not quite believing that she and Alex were actually going to get married. “Not that I expect that from SHIELD.” Lorna said as she crossed the room to press a kiss against Alex's lips.

He accepted the kiss and returned it with one of his own, smiling more at the glance she gave the ring. The thought that she wanted him still, even after everything, it was a miracle and despite the turmoil of Pietro's objections, that she still got that look when she thought about their impending wedding, their life together, how could he not feel like he was blessed. "I think that's the point," he told her regarding the discretion of the uniforms, "I think they want us to present a unified front, a bold statement. We're the superheroes of the moment, proof that the only good mutie isn't necessarily a dead mutie, and the public needs this symbol of our status. It's publicity, and media hype, that's all, and what's easier for the people to believe in than beautiful babes and muscley men?"

“Yeah, I know.” Lorna said conceding his point with a wry smile. “It just doesn't sit too well with me; being so public... wearing these uniforms. You know I'm not exactly an exhibitionist.” She gave a slight shrug, crossing her arms across her chest and glancing down at the bright X emblazoned across the material. “I guess I'm used to the secrecy of the X-Men but it just feels strange. Like X-Factor isn't ours anymore.” She gave him a gentle smile. “I'm sorry, I'm probably not helping.”

"I know," Alex said, a flash of something crossing his eyes, not anger, but... something dark, directed inwards. "Something had to be done though, something to make up for what I... what happened? Mutants need spokesmen, and if we don't want it to be Magneto, and Scott won't do it, that leaves us or the Morlocks. Frankly, I don't see Callisto making 'all for peace' speeches and I don't think that humanity is ready to rally around people who look so different, sad as that is to say. I don't know that I made the right decision here, honey, but I know that if I didn't you and the others will be there to let me know. Your brother was right. I'm a terrible leader, but for some reason, I can't make myself follow."

Lorna lifted her hand to touch Alex's cheek and brush back his pale hair. She hated to hear him so down, doubting himself. There was very little she could do, very little she could ever do to help him, other than try to support him. It wasn't easy though and she often felt at a loss as what to do or say. “You are not a terrible leader, Alex. Look at what you've built here.” She moved away from him, towards their bed, where she sat down and began to unzip the uniform boots. “I can't even begin to describe how much I disagree with Pietro and his opinions on you as a leader, and I'm sure if he wasn't so upset about everything, he wouldn't be saying anything against you.” Lorna said, keeping her tone matter of fact, though her concern and hurt over Pietro was obvious as she tugged one boot off.

"The thing with Piet... he's just quicker to see it than others, maybe,' Alex said, crossing the room, to sit beside her, "Or maybe just slower to forgive." He laid back on the bed, lifting his hands so that he could see them. The color was still fading, his hands nearly the same grey as his face now, the tips of his fingers still darker. "I'm starting to look more human, feel more human," he muttered, "More like myself, but for the longest time, Lorna, I didn't know myself. Not just being War, or being Ka-Zar, or ShadowX's obsessive puppet... I just wonder if maybe I have never known who I was. Since I was five, I've been bounced around, trying to fit into everyone else's mold for me. The Blandings, Scott's, hell, even yours." He reached out, his hand finding a strand of her green hair, twisting it around his fingers, until his knuckles rested against her cheek. "Your view of me is my favorite, thought. The only one I think I have a chance to live up to."

“Pietro is quick to judge and he's often unfair. His judgements are usually coloured by his loyalty and affection for Wanda and sometimes me.” Lorna replied, pushing off the other boot and letting it fall to the ground with a slight thump. He touched her hair, twirling it around his finger and she turned towards him, moving to lay down, resting her head on his shoulder. “You don't have to live up to anything, Alex. I think you're wonderful just the way you are.” Lorna said with a smile.

“I don't think anyone knows who they really are, everyone is influenced by the people around them. I guess because you've been moved around more, and had such an unsettled childhood, it's harder for you than some. I think that maybe, if we can just have some time to settle, you might be able to find some level footing.” She lifted her hand to take his, moving it to rest against the exposed skin of her abdomen, wanting to warmth of his touch against her skin. “You know sometimes I wish we could leave all this behind, just get married and go and live somewhere far away from everyone else. A cabin in New Mexico maybe.”

Her move to comfort him and in turn be comforted by him brought a sappy smile to his lips. Alex closed his eyes and pictured her dream, "We have a cabin in Alaska," he said, "Scott and Jean used it for their honeymoon though, so I wouldn't dream of being a copycat." He chuckled, "I've never been a fan of Alaska, actually, too damn cold and geologicall? Pfft, New Mexico has it all over it." Heaving a sigh he said, "It would be a perfect life, I think. You and me, and our kids, tromping up and down in the desert, far away from all this nonsense. Totally irresponsible of us though, to abandon our people when they need us so much... We'd be wrong to do it... wouldn't we?" He opened his eyes, and turned his head to look at her, "Aren't we too deep into this to stop now?"

Lorna laughed softly as Alex began to elaborate on her suggestion, and she felt the temptation of it immediately, just the two of them, living their lives away from everyone else, starting a family. She wondered if it was strange how appealing that was to her, even though they spoke lightly about it. “Yes, completely irresponsible.” Lorna shook her head, turning her body sideways so her front was pressed lightly against Alex's. “But... wonderful at the same time. I suppose we can't leave now, can we? I wish we could though. Maybe for a week or two, for the wedding and the honeymoon. A taster of the future, or a dream of the future.”

She rested against him and despite everything that hurt inside him, every doubt, every fear, he still felt himself reacting to her closeness. Would that rush of excitement ever fade, that arousal when he felt her near, her powers pulling lightly at the natural metals in his blood, his powers reaching towards her energies in excited agitation. This was more than the desire for sex, though that was a definite longing. It was more than the neediness of two damaged people. Alex Summers loved Lorna Dane, and he would make it his priority in life to make her know it. "I don't know if we can leave right this second, but I do want to go with you. I want to be somewhere far away from being a superhero, for as long as we can be spared, and I want to focus on you, entirely on you and me together. A new start, a fresh start, for us both. What's this, my fourth or fifth chance to make a good impression on you? Maybe I'll get it right this time."

“You got it right a very long time ago.” Lorna replied, lifting her head to kiss the side of his neck. “I'm just waiting for you to realise that. I'm not holding my breath though, I think it might take you a while.” She smiled softly, settling herself more comfortably into his body, feeling the warm familiarity of it. These were moments she still greatly appreciated, after everything they had gone through. “We should set a date, I suppose, and tell everyone. Hopefully we can keep things small and low key.”

"Low key?" Alex chuckled, "With Jet and Guido around? Hell, even Shane is probably chomping at the bit to make a ten layer wedding cake. Good luck on that, good looking. Face it, you're going to have to settle for being the belle of the ball." He smiled, "'bout time too. You get overshadowed by your psycho boyfriend, messed up siblings and terrorist father. I think more people should be celebrating the gorgeousness that is Lorna Dane, frankly." He kissed her teasingly, "Make it a national holiday."

Lorna kissed him back and shook her head, a slight smile on her lips. “I'm quite happy being overshadowed, and I'm perfectly fine with staying that way. I just want us to be married. I want to be your wife and spend the rest of my life with you.” She sighed softly and shook her head., laughing quietly “I suppose I am just dreaming with our team though. They do certainly like to make a fuss over things.”

Alex tilted his head, "What if... what if we eloped? I mean we could leave them a message that we're ok, and we're taking our honeymoon now, and when we come back we can have a party or whatever, but maybe we don't have to do the whole big fancy schmancy wedding like Scott and Jeannie did. I mean what's important is that we say our 'I do's.' That's what we both want. I bet if I had to clear it with Hodge to get time of or whatever the procedure is, we'd be able to take a week or two off without the world blowing up on us."

Lorna propped herself up on her elbow to look at Alex as he mentioned eloping. “See, this is why I love you.” She stated, smiling brightly and kissing him on the lips. “That sounds perfect. We can just ask Pietro and Wanda, and Scott if you want, to act as witnesses.” She felt a strong surge of excitement the more she thought about it. “Two weeks away would be amazing. Just the two of us, no interruptions, no disasters. Hodge might still be wanting to play nice enough to let us go for that long”

"I dunno if Piet's willing to play along, but we'll see what happens," Alex smiled, "And, don't think this is something altrusitic, dollface, I'm just trying to marry you quick before you come to your senses," He pulled her down next to him, wrapping his arms around her, "We're going to have a happy ending. I can't believe it sometimes, but when I think of you, it seems like we can do this. Like we can have this American dream, or whatever it is. Hope. I think that's it. Lorna, you give me hope."

Lorna cuddled into him, her arms slipping around him and holding him tightly. “How do you know I'm not doing the same? Who knows when you're going to wake up and realise you should be with some leggy Amazonian blonde with amazing breasts.” She laughed and kissed him deeply, tangling her fingers into his. “I think we will get our happy ending too. As long as we're together, whatever else happens, that is the happy ending.”

He laughed and said, "I'm glad, babe, I'm glad." Kissing her he said, "But don't underestimate yourself. I think your breasts are beyond amazing." He waggled his eyebrows and clicked his tongue, lasciviously, "'specially in that little belly shirt, rowr."

“I can imagine that might be a problem out in the field.” Lorna commented with a playful raise of her eyebrows. She slipped her leg over to the other side of Alex's waist, moving so she was straddling him, leaning forwards to kiss him lingeringly. “Probably a good idea to remove it now. We can worry about uniforms and eloping later on..”
