BASIC INFORMATION

CANON OR ORIGINAL: Canon.

SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Bisexual.
BASE OF OPERATIONS: Xavier Institute.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

HEIGHT: 5’2”
BUILD: Lean and developed.
EYES: Blue.
HAIR: Long and blonde.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: None really, except her height - or lack thereof.

CLOTHING STYLE: Laurie doesn’t necessarily have a distinct form of clothing, really. She likes to wear anything comfortable, normally in fairly light colours. She can be found normally in denim jeans, capris or skirts, depending on the weather – sometimes she wears khaki pants, but not as often as jeans. If she’s wearing skirts, she can often be found in knee socks to accompany them, if she’s in an especially preppy mood. She likes pretty standard tops. She’ll wear just about anything, from graphic tees to tank tops, to blouses. If it’s cold she might wear a nice turtleneck or a baggy sweater. Really, her wardrobe is whatever she feels like putting on that morning.

UNIFORM: Wallflower’s uniform is, like almost every other X-Men uniform, pretty form-fitting. She wears a cropped yellow long-sleeved jacket with white cuffs, and the X symbol on both of her upper arms. Under the jacket is a simple white racer-back top. She has a belt that fastens around her hips. Her pants are form-fitting and white, and on her feet are yellow boots with fairly large cuffs around the top.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Wallflower has the ability to generate pheromones, which alters the chemical balance in the brains of those around her. She can control the emotions around her through the use of those pheromones. At first, she had no control over this power whatsoever, and had no control over when she released them. When she did release them, she could match her own emotions – everyone around her would be feeling what she felt at the time. However, she learned to control it over time, and can now keep her pheromones in check. She can emit them on command, and induce every kind of emotion – from lust to anger, fear to calmness, happiness to lethargy.

Having gained relative control over her power, Wallflower is now able to direct her pheromones to specific people or parties, and can induce just about every feeling one could imagine that she herself is familiar with. She no longer has to be touching the person to alter their pheromones, though she does have to be within at least fifty feet of her target. She can also control multiple peoples' pheromones at once, provided they're feeling the same thing. She can control crowds of over 100 people, but for a very limited time and it takes an incredible amount of effort. For instance, she could put one hundred people to sleep, but they would only remain so for perhaps ten minutes, and she would be physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted by the end of it.

Often her pheromones are invisible, but when she is using her power to it's full extent, they can be seen almost as a yellow, sparkling smoke emitting from her in whichever direction she's aiming.

WEAKNESS:

DISTANCE AND CROWDS. As previously mentioned, Wallflower now has excellent control over her power and can make anyone feel anything she wishes, but there are limitations. There was once a time that she had to be in contact with her targets to alter their pheromones, but now she has a range of a 100-foot distance. Of course, the closer she is to her targets, the less effort it takes. 100 feet is simply the maximum distance she can be from her targets, but it takes a lot of effort and focus. She can also control the pheromones of crowds of up to one hundred people, provided she's making them all feel the same emotion. And one hundred people is her maximum once more - it only lasts for ten minutes at most before she gets exhausted and has to take a moment to collect herself. She can target up to three people at a time if she wanted to make either of them feel something different - but only three people, and it gets incredibly exhausting and confusing for herself, considering she has to feel and understand the emotions to a degree herself. She prefers to stick to one at a time, so as not to emotionally strain herself. As previously mentioned, when she is pushed to her maximum limits, the longest she can keep anyone under her influence is five or ten minutes at the most.

BRAWN. Laurie isn’t exactly what one would call strong – in fact, she’s rather scrawny. She has been training to become a better physical fighter since coming to Xavier's and is getting better with physical attacks and weaponry, but still has a huge disadvantage in this area. Additionally, she is human and is susceptible to all things humans are - injury, disease, death, etc.

PERSONALITY
Laurie has never been consistent in regards to her personality. She had always been a rather quiet loner when she lived with her mother, before all of this mutant nonsense had happened. When her powers had started to emerge, however, she had suddenly become more popular around school. Her mother, who had been immune to her pheromones, tried to talk her down from the high of popularity, and explained and Laurie, afraid of what she might be able to do to people, became more withdrawn than ever. When she came to Xavier’s first, she was very shy and naive and withdrawn, and had no control over her powers. Laurie refused to come out of her shell, even with her trusted mother living nearby, and went through several roommates very quickly. Because Laurie had no control over her power, she frightened when she heard a riot going on outside of her room, and thought she might have been the cause – which, of course, only caused her to retreat further into herself. She was afraid of her power and what she could do to people. It was only when she found one roommate who actually stuck and started talking to her, and hanging around her, that she began to emerge from her withdrawn state. She’s now a kind, gentle and generally cheery person, but not in an aggressive or obnoxious manner. She's become known to be quite the friendly and optimistic type, and usually gets along well with just about anyone she crosses paths with. Her sense of humour is very good and she can be pretty goofy, cracking jokes here and there to raise spirits. She's come a very long way since her days as an emotionally challenged hermit, but her emotions can still be a little fritzy at times, and they might jump to extremes if she’s handled the wrong way.

HISTORY
Laurie Collins was born on January 16th, 1991 as the daughter of Gail Collins and Sean Garrison. The only reason that she came to be, however, was because her father had the ability to control the emotions of those around him using pheromones – which was inevitably passed down to her. He used these abilities on women – Gail Collins being one of them. She had stayed with him unwittingly, but when she became pregnant with Laurie, she became immune to his powers and left him after learning what he had done. Laurie Collins was born typically without a father – she was raised by her mother, and by a man who was not her father, but was hired by her father to be a father-like figure for her. Complicated, right? Well, Laurie grew up with her mother, and had become a quiet loner when she learned that her mother had been hurt by her father. She had a pretty uneventful childhood, until her powers began showing through.

She had been in high school when her powers began to emerge, and as a result she fed off of it. She had never been popular before, and it was fairly new to her. Her mother, however, knew that it was simply her power showing through, and tried to talk her down from the high of being recognized and popular. When Laurie was informed of her powers, she became afraid of them. She was afraid of the power she could have over people, and afraid of what she might do to someone accidentally. Because of this fear, Laurie reverted back into her shell and withdrew herself once again. The prospect of possibly hurting someone or negatively affecting someone was not something that Laurie wanted to even consider, and the introduction of her powers was a bit overwhelming for her.

When Xavier’s Institute became public knowledge to them, Gail sent Laurie to the school in hopes that it might help her gain experience and control over her powers. Plus, she would be with others like her, which would hopefully help with her self-esteem. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Laurie was sixteen when she went to the school, and she went through numerous roommates very quickly because all of them reacted to her powers. Not one roommate stuck, and one can imagine what that might do to someone’s self-confidence. So, Laurie remained inside of her room and hoped that she didn’t negatively affect anyone unintentionally simply because they walked past an open door or window. She finally got a roommate that could handle Laurie’s powers however, because her powers allowed her avoid the pheromones released by the young blonde. This helped boost Laurie’s confidence and she began to slowly crawl out of her shell. She’s been better ever since, especially since recently, she’s gained control over her powers to a certain degree. She can emit them and withhold them upon command, which she thinks is quite a feat for having been trying to do so for two years.

While everything had been better for Laurie during her stay at Xavier’s, everything changed the night that Cerebro was infiltrated. She had been awakened during the night by the blaring sirens of the alarm, as she was a light sleeper. She had poked her head out of her room to see Ms. Sinclair running through the halls with a child over her shoulder, and Laurie immediately knew the magnitude of trouble that the school was in. Not having enough control over her powers yet, Laurie wasn’t encouraged to help, so she stayed in her room, awake and alert, waiting for something to happen. That night had been one of the most stressful nights during her stay at Xavier’s. The morning had come and the mansion was okay, but Laurie knew that this was not the end, not even close. The stress and panic of that night was not to be taken lightly, and trouble of that magnitude didn’t just go away.

And Laurie had been right. The mansion had been on alert ever since, and Laurie knew that outside of the mansion, trouble was brewing. People had disappeared, some teachers didn’t show up for class, and Laurie became increasingly worried about the magnitude of this problem. In fact, she anticipated the day that the school would be under attack on a larger level, and evacuated. The students of Xavier’s were kept informed of the goings on, and though some were too over-confident and wanted to help, they were advised to simply stay at the school and remain alert. If there was trouble, they deserved to know after all. When the news of Pestilence, Famine, War and Death was introduced, the school was quite frenzied for a few days. Laurie’s mother wanted to pull her out of the school, for fear of her daughter being in danger, but Laurie refused to leave. She was at Xavier’s because she was who she was, and though she didn’t have enough control over her powers to fight, she wasn’t going to run away.

DURING APOCALYPSE
Laurie remained at Xavier’s, having done too much worrying for her own good, and trying not to send herself into further panic over this situation – then, April 7th came. Laurie didn’t know of these events until told, and then later saw them on the news. The four Horsemen had begun wreaking havoc upon the world. Europe, Asia, the United States – all were attacked by the four Horsemen who, according to the Bible, represented the End of Days. An apocalypse. All of her time spent trying not to panic went to waste, and she fell victim to her stress. Laurie stayed in her room for the majority of the day, until the moment that she had anticipated for days finally arrived. The grown beneath her shook and first she thought a rather vehement earthquake had occurred. But when the sound of an explosion pierced her ears, she knew otherwise. The Institute was under attack by a Horseman. Or at least, she thought it was an attack. The big booming voice coming from outside frightened her, and curiously she watched the scene unfold from a window. Not an attack, but the fact that there was a Horseman of Apocalypse outside of her school was still extremely disconcerting. So, she returned to the sanctuary of her dorm in a feeble attempt to hope that nothing terrible would occur.

Unfortunately, because Laurie didn’t have proper control of her power yet, she couldn’t go out fighting with the X-Men against the Horsemen – and to be honest, she wouldn’t have been able to handle the pressure yet. She was still the quiet, submissive girl that she had been before she arrived at Xavier’s, simply not as withdrawn. The whole situation was too much for her. The day after War arrived, the students were evacuated from the school to a place called Graymalkin. Laurie had been in the first group that had been evacuated, as she helped children get settled and calm them down, and while she wished that she could have done more to help her friends, she knew that she wouldn’t have been much help if she lost control of her emotions and in turn her pheromones. They were kept informed, and when they were informed that the battles were over, and War and Death had been defeated, Laurie calmed considerably. Still, the news of the losses that they suffered was traumatic, and Laurie inevitably mourned the deaths of the people she had come to know and love. But the battle was far from over – there were still two other Horsemen out there, which meant that Laurie still had a lot more worrying to endure until Apocalypse would finally be defeated.

On April 12th, Apocalypse resurfaced with an attack, and Laurie could only listen to the news being relayed to her helplessly. She started hating herself for not having enough control to somehow help the people that she had become close to, or the people that she admired. The storm that was created by Apocalypse was nerve-racking, and in a place filled with God knows how many kids worrying and stressed, Wallflower mustered all the control that she could, and let her pheromones release themselves in the form of calmness, so that things didn’t get too out of hand. She herself was terrified that the storm might damn near destroy them all, but there couldn’t be God knows how many children running around in a frenzied state. Laurie had to repress her fright in order to keep her pheromones under control. When news that Pestilence had finally come to her senses and was freed from Apocalypse’s grip, Laurie felt a wave of relief unlike any other wash over her. Everything had happened so fast, Laurie could hardly comprehend all of the events that had almost destroyed the very world and everyone in it. Next time something this big happened, she would not be as weak as she was this time. She would conquer her powers.

POST-APOCALYPSE
After the fall of Apocalypse, Laurie really began to open up to the student body of Xavier's. Finding friendship in Tommy Shepard, Noriko Ashida and Josh Foley, Laurie truly began to feel comfortable in her own skin - something that hadn't been the case for a very, very long time. Thanks to a student camping trip and several other regular hang outs after that, the two friendships she'd slowly formed began to evolve. Quickly, Laurie found herself with both a best friend and a budding romance. She and Noriko had bonded instantly, which was strange given how different the two really were. But there is that old saying, opposites attract. And while Josh remained a good friend of hers for a long while, it seemed that the feelings she harboured for him were returned, and the two began a very strong relationship. Between the three of them, a trio was formed, and they all stuck by one another very closely.

When Noriko discovered that her brother had gone missing in Japan and became determined to find him, Laurie and Josh agreed to join her and help in any way they could. Accompanied by LOA and Logan, the three set out on a mission. It had taken them quite some time to find him, and they'd been gone for nearly a whole month before they made any headway. But when they did find him, Laurie refused to leave his side in the chaos of a fight and ended up captured alongside him. With the help of Logan and the others, and a trail of pheromones she'd been leaving to lead the group to them, the two were tracked down on a cargo ship and rescued, along with the others who had been trapped with them. After they'd returned, Laurie had asked to be bumped up to Senior-Level Training, upon realizing that becoming an X-Man was truly what she aspired to.

Laurie was also one of the few that hadn't been affected by the World Without Xavier, and remained herself even while everyone around her was changing. It had been a difficult reality to come to grips with, but just as all the other crazy events that seemed to surround her as an X-Student did, eventually things went back to normal - however briefly.

PURIFIERS
The attack of the Purifiers wasn't anything that had been expected. Yes, there had been unsettling news traveling around the institute, but never had anyone imagined that the event would become so out of control. When the mansion was bombed, Laurie had been studying with Josh and Noriko. One minute the three had been laughing and joking around, and the next everything around them began to tumble to the ground - quite literally, as the mansion crumbled on top of them. Laurie had very nearly lost her life that day, having sustained serious and fatal injuries. Just before she'd slipped away, however, Josh had found her and used his power to bring her back from the brink of death. With the help of Noriko and Scott, the three escaped and Laurie was sent to the makeshift infirmary that had been set up. However, she only remained there briefly. She'd already been healed and was not about to sit around while her friends and school were attacked by the onslaught of Purifiers that had rushed to the grounds in an attempt to take out any survivors. And so, jumping into battle, Laurie took it upon herself to take out as many Purifier goons as she possibly could - totalling around fifteen, having joined the battle a little bit late.

Because the mansion was destroyed, the X-Men were forced to evacuate to a new place - a place called Utopia. Some stayed behind to help rebuild the school, but Josh was going to Utopia, and therefore so was Laurie. He had saved her life, and she had realized afterwards that her feelings for him were much more than that. She loved him, and was willing to go anywhere and do anything for him. He was her first love, and that was a very powerful thing. While she was up there, she helped set up the base and began training to become an X-Man once again, her desire to join the squad never once squashed amidst the ocean of never-ending chaos.

SKRULLS
Laurie had been captured very early-on in the Skrull Invasion - on a trek to discover why the power had gone out at the base (the same time that Rachel Summers had been found), she'd been snatched at night and replaced by a Skrull by the name of Xia, who took it upon herself to use Laurie's powers to cause some mischief among her fellow students, and create as much tension as she possibly could through the use of her pheromones. Meanwhile, Laurie had been held captive on Skrullos for months as she was tested, poked and prodded and eventually simply left in the cell she'd been forced to call home. Without a terribly offensive power, and being null-cuffed regardless, Laurie was helpless to escape. Having become a usually optimistic person, she'd held onto her hope for as long as possible. Unfortunately, even that began to run out. But just as it had began to fade away, hope returned in the form of Strange. It seemed that a whole cavalry had come to their rescue. The battle to get out of the imprisonment and off of Skrullos was long and took a lot of teamwork, but Laurie and her team completed their work successfully. She'd been injured, but fought through the injury to make it off of that planet and back home to her family and friends, and her Josh - who had unfortunately fallen under the misconception that Xia was Laurie, as had everyone until the Skrulls revealed themselves. When they finally did, Laurie was in New York at the time and took part in the fight at the Worthington Complex.

After the invasion and the Skrulls had been defeated, Laurie took it upon herself to escape the world of the X-Men for a little while - to take a breather, visit her mother once more and do a little bit of soul-searching. Since her return from Skrullos and the invasion, a lot had happened for her to process - including the end of her first relationship. Thus, it seemed that the best decision was simply for her to take a step back and really consider everything that had happened. Her mother agreed that she needed a break - of course, Laurie left out a lot of details about what exactly had been happening in her life since the last time they spoke - and the two planned a small getaway. In that time, Laurie's discovered quite a bit about herself. She's discovered that even after everything she has been through since attending Xavier's - even after the losses she's suffered, the battles she's fought, and even though there had been plenty of times that she wanted to throw in the towel and simply give up - there is an X-Man within her, and she can't let that part of herself go. Others had been through worse than she had and were still going strong - it wasn't her place to complain.

It has been quite some time since she has been back at Xavier's - very nearly an entire year, just short. Throughout everything that has been happening and all of the news of multiple deaths - including that of Scott Summers - it has been all Laurie could do to keep herself away from the situation. Her mother begged her not to go back, tried to convince her that she was happier at home and that life was simpler away from all of the fighting and destruction. But as long as she'd sat idly by, biting her nails and trying to agree with her mother, she couldn't any longer - even separated from that life, she was still affected by the nightmares that were being induced, and everything that was televised on the news. Too much was happening to the people and the school that she'd come to care about, and she couldn't continue to sit around and let it carry on without doing her part to help. All she can do now is pull herself together, and face the newest challenge as X-Men always do - head on, and ready to kick ass. Unfortunately, having been separated from that world for so long, she is not as privy to all that's been going on and the details quite like the X-Men are. Just as things started to seem to calm down slightly, a darkness has begun to take over the world, and what Laurie's coming back to is exactly what she's been expecting - chaos lurking around every corner, and a huge battle looming in the very near future. But then again, what else is new? Welcome home, Wallflower.

SAMPLE RP POST:
Laurie sat in her room with her hands over her ears, hiding under her bed covers. This place was a bad idea – going anywhere had seemed like a bad idea for her. Already she had been through five roommates, and she hadn’t been at Xavier’s for even two weeks. Her mother wasn’t too far away, and Laurie went to visit her nearly every other day in order to calm her insecurities. It didn’t work, for the minute that Laurie came back into the Institute she was overwhelmed by a sense of fear that she might affect another person. The blonde girl felt like a walking disaster, and therefore found that the only way to keep herself from messing around unintentionally with people’s emotions was to stay locked away in her room, where her pheromones wouldn’t reach anyone.

The blonde girl curled herself up in a ball and sighed before poking her head out from underneath the sheets. As much as she wanted to stay in her room all the time, she did have to leave in order to feed herself, and to relieve her bladder. She wished that the rooms could have been made with built-in bathrooms and mini kitchens, but that would have been too easy. The blonde felt her stomach begin to rumble, and the groaned during a moment of self-indulgent pity. A good fifteen minutes of staring at the ceiling and nineteen stomach rumbles later, she shoved the sheets off of her body, slipped on her knee-socks and shoes and slowly slipped out of the stuffy room, into the wide hallway. It was empty, but she suddenly felt very exposed.

Laurie padded her way through the halls of the girl’s dormitory and outside into the wide open air, which actually felt good after three consecutive days of being stuck inside of her dormitory. When she got outside to feel the cool breeze, she almost forgot about her little power problem. She enjoyed the brisk walk, but when she came to the door realization once again dawned on her. She sighed and pulled the door open, making her way towards the cafeteria. This time, the halls were more populated. Laurie made eye contact with no one until she reached the cafeteria, and still kept her head down once she entered. She didn’t know what her pheromones were doing, or if she was even emitting any, but she didn’t want to risk turning around and seeing everyone in the same tense and stressed out state that she was in. She reached the line and smelled the food, and her stomach gave a very loud rumble. She could feel herself relax considerably at the smell, and almost instantly she felt more bodies join her in the food lines, stomachs growling. Damn it.

Yeah, drop us a line if you need to take a hiatus. It saves everyone the grief.

That aside, the application looks great to me. You're set to go.

Tried to add everything from after Apocalypse onward that I could remember... I have no idea if I was successful, and I tried to account for her absence through the Illuminati plot. Let me know if anything needs to be changed. <<; Also I'm only coming back with Laurie (no Petra for meeeee).

I sort of want assurance that you are going to be able to stick with it, because as it stands this is the fifth or sixth disappearance for you? I get that real life gets in the way, but I don't like the revolving door playing because it makes it difficult for others to play or plot with your character.

Third absence. Understandable. As it stands, I have every intention of staying. I posted an absence a while back stating that I was taking time away from the site to catch up on life, relax, etc because I had a lot going on. But I also said that I hoped I'd get to come back. This is me finally finding the time and muse to come back. If I think I shouldn't get involved in larger plots due to time restraints and business, I won't get involved in them. But I've been on this site for years and it was difficult to leave in the first place. So since my account hadn't changed and was still active, I thought I would take a shot at coming back now that I have multitudes of time on my hands.

So yes, I don't anticipate any extended absences any time soon. But if I feel activity might slip for any period of time I'll be sure to post a notice.

I'm sorry for any hard feelings, that was never my intention.
