January 19th, 2006 They always knew, they must have always known. It was sitting there staring back at them as plain as day, taking the form of a pile of white hair atop an otherwise normal looking head. Tommy couldn't help it, he didn't want to be this way. He used to be normal. He wanted to start a band and get laid after prom. Now all he wanted, staring at the empty ceiling in his bedroom, was for this moment to be over. It had been coming, he could feel it. Like a battery buzzing inside of him, his mutation was growing stronger. In the last few weeks, the world seemed to slow to a near standstill. He moved around in confused frustration as those around him seemed stuck in perpetual slow motion. It was growing and there was no way the boy could stop it, no matter how much he wished he could. He knew he couldn't keep the secret forever, it was going to come bursting out of him someday as a stream of terrible and isolating power. That's how it always happened to the kids on the news. One second they were walking down the street getting ice cream or something and the next they were outcasts and criminals. Tommy didn't mentally try to fight the injustice of the situation, partly because he didn't completely disagree with it. From a young age, Tommy was always taught that mutants were scary awful things, that's just how his father felt. They needed to be run out of the country or worse. Of course, when his father was filling him with all this hate, he didn't know his own son was one of the outcasts. Or maybe he did, Tommy thought, running a hand through his unnaturally snow white hair. None of it mattered now, because earlier that night, the moment Tommy always dreaded happened. At the prom no less. Just sitting there, he began to shake, to vibrate as all the slow motion kids around him took notice. Then, as if he were some sort of motor compressor that had finally reached it's pressure limit. Like bullets from a gun the force that seemed to be speeding the boy up, exited his body. The effects were devastating. The force rippled through the gymnasium, destroying whatever it touched. Like the kids on the news, Tommy was now an outlaw. From his room he could hear the ruckus. His mother and father in the next room. She was flinging clothes in a suitcase while he stood fuming around her. "What are you doing ?" she shrieked, her voice panicked and shrill. "We need to get out of here now. They could be coming any second." The man, standing still, finally looked up at his wife. "I'm not going anywhere. Let them come, let them take him. We should have left him." The man began to tear up."At that damn orphanage. We should of let him rot there." "I can't believe you're saying this."Mary Shepard spoke in shock. "He's our son Frank. No matter what, he's ours." Fury was in the woman's voice now as she grabbed her husband's arm. In a quick fluid motion, he threw her back against the wall. "Not mine." he said as he walked closer to her. Hearing this set Tommy off. He flew out of the room and in an attempt to get between his mother and his approaching father skidded to a stop in front of him. But he was too fast. He ran into his father at speeds fast enough to run through a wall. With a thud, the man went careening down the stairs. His body lay limp and twisted at the bottom. "I didn't...I thought he was going to," Tommy tried to choke out words as he looked at his mother, whose gaze was full of something Tommy had never seen looking back at him, fear. He tried to walk toward her, but she flinched and pulled back. "I'm sorry..I- God, I'm sorry. He was right" Tommy continued, speaking mostly to himself,"You should have left me. I won't hurt you anymore." Tommy that sped out of the only home he had ever known, unsure of where he was going or if his father was even still alive. The only thing he knew was that he was alone and that his life would never be the same. |

June 17 2006 The streets were crowded today, more so than usual. People bustled about having conversations, making jokes, singing along to the songs that blared from their headphones into their eardrums.Tommy Shepard surveyed them as they walked about, so unknowingly pompous. They lived their lives without care, as if they were the only species on the planet that mattered. A young woman laughed as she exited a store and joined her friend on the street. In a different lifetime, Tommy would have found the woman attractive, her laugh an intoxicating siren song. Now however, her presence does little more than fill him with anger and bitterness. So much had changed for the boy in the six months since he left home. Where he had once been happy and carefree, now he was an angry shell of himself with little respect for anyone, himself included. He hadn't been back even once since the day he left, though he thought about it. He still didn't know if his father was dead, if he had killed him, and that thought had haunted the boy. His hair was dark now. Auburn chestnut to be exact, or so the bottle said. His natural hair color wouldn't do much to mask him from the mutant hating crowds and now that he was on his own he needed every advantage he could get. Distance and space had become relative to the boy since learning to better use his mutant powers. He could be anywhere in a flash and often used that ability to the fullest. From Paris to China to Disneyworld, Tommy had went everywhere, not staying in any one place for too long. That is until recently. The word on the street was that there was a sort of mutant badass in New York. Somebody so intense that he, like Tommy, refused to leave the country with his tail between his legs. Tommy wanted to meet him, he needed to. He told himself that he didn't believe such a person existed and wanted to prove that, but in the back of his mind, where his secrets were, he silently hoped Ruby existed. In Ruby he saw a small chance either some company or some purpose other than just the petty theft and destruction that had marked his days. He looked at the young laughing woman again. He thought of the perky happy people at his prom from the day he left. He hated them so much. He hated them all. That would make what he had to do easier. He cocked his hands like they were pistols and just as he did at the prom so many months ago, he let the force flow from him in the direction of the girl. "You better run, bitch." he said with a gleeful glint. The force hurdled toward her smashing the ground around her. "Hahahaha," the boy laughed, though if he was being honest, he didn't know exactly why. The woman fell to the ground as she jumped out of the way of the blast. The boy had destroyed nearly a block when he ran out of juice. Gasping, he thought to himself that if there was a Ruby, he certainly come running after he saw this. |

Punches from the Punch Dimension

A crimson blast cracked out through the air, slamming into the punk kid's chest, the beam reflected off the carved ruby sphere on a cane in the hands of a twenty-nine year old mutant mobster with a superiority complex and a need to save his people in his own way whether or not he recognized it. The crowd had long since scattered and the approaching sounds of sirens and the slight whirr of quinjet engines in the air suggested that the authorities were on their way. Ruby had been watching this boy self destruct for some time here, his attacks on the city becoming almost predictable. A speedster, a kid. Ruby told himself that his interest in this kid was only because he didn't want the negative publicity that was going to make things harder on mutant kind. He'd almost completely convinced himself that was true. Ruby's blast was short and powerful, but perfectly calculated so that he could just slam the kid backwards, knocking his dumb ass out long enough to help him. The boy was thrown backwards into the nearest well, sliding down it like a bug on a windshield, unconscious. The older mutant dropped his glasses back over his eyes and said to the other members of his people who were here with him. "Get that brat in the car and lets get out of here before Agent Marvel brings her watchdogs on us." Ruby's penthouse was quickly filling up, but he didn't really think about that. He had room, he had money, he had been rescued off the streets by Jack, and say what you would about the son of a bitch, Ruby realized that he'd likely be dead or - worse- in SHIELD's hands, acting as a living weapon to wipe out his own people. Besides, it was Jack that was funding this place, to be honest, at least pieces of him. When Ruby thought about that... he felt nothing... he should have felt something, shouldn't he? All he knew was he had to do better by these kids then Jack did by him. Jack was a fucking bastard. Ruby was a bastard, too, but at least he really believed he was giving these kids something more. The kid, who was a hell of a lot younger than Ruby realized, was laid out on a bed, shoes off because Ruby did not like shoes on the sheets, but other than that fully clothed, untouched. There was none of that sick shit around here. The room was in shades of white, because it was an easy color for Ruby to see. Nothing in the entire penthouse was red, except for Ruby's glasses, and Ruby's cane. He didn't allow it. Sitting in the chair across the room from the bed, Ruby chased a couple pain killers with some brandy, one hand massaging his bad knee absently, waiting for the kid to wake up. They were going to have a little talk. |

The wolf girl had only been here shortly, a matter of weeks at most, and was not fully adjusted to her new surroundings. It was different, with different smells and different sounds and different sights. There were people here - she didn't know them very well yet and was overall afraid of them. For the most part. She had not yet spoken, had not yet told anyone what she remembered of her name a lifetime ago. As far as anyone would know, she was just some half-wolf teenage girl who spoke in growls and occasional barks. She stuck by Ruby like glue, though. He was the one to pull her from the wreckage of the prison, he was the one who saved her - he was the one she'd stay by, like a dutiful guard dog. So when he went into this one room, the wolf girl thought nothing of it and followed him in. Upon seeing the boy on the bed, she froze mid-step, watching him carefully and cautiously, as if he might spring up at any moment and attack. Despite her fear, she put herself between the boy and Ruby, and slowly inched closer, fear slowly turning to curiosity as she moved along. Was it dead? Alive? Why did it have the face of a young boy but the hair of an old man? She continued to creep closer until she was almost nose-to-nose with the boy. |

Tommy was empty. As it always did, the use of his vibrations left him drained and almost completely exhausted. It was the only time that he seemed to slow down and keep step with the rest of the world. The boy bent his frame a little trying to catch his breath. He had depleted himself nearly entirely. It was then that he was hit with some unseen force that sent him hurtling towards the street and into the darkness of the unconscious. Sleep had been something of a luxury to the tattered looking boy since his powers manifested. His body and mind seemed sped up so much that something as simple as an afternoon nap proved a formidable challenge. As it was, even by these means, the sleep was nice. Pain began to become something of a reality as Tommy groaned his way back to the land of the living. Waking up, on the rare occasions that he had achieved sleep, was Tommy's favorite part of the day. In the split second before he registered where and what he was, he was completely free from the burden of his life. The harsh realization that came seconds after was his least favorite moment. Blurred eyes met the daylight, and as Tommy got his bearings he realized he wasn't where he should be. He struggled trying to remember the last thing that had happened to him. He flung open his eyes to find a wolf like thing staring at him. In the immediate distance was a man sitting on a chair. He was in a room, on a bed with no shoes. The world had slowed down again. Good, these bitches wouldn't know what hit them. Tommy jumped up in a hurry. Snapping the wooden leg from a nearby counter, in a fraction of an instant he had fashioned a crude weapon. He skidded to a stop in front of the wolf thing, as he figured out of the two that one would pose the biggest threat. He held the weapon mere inches from what he had by now deduced was probably one of those unfortunate ugly ass mutants who couldn't walk around in the daylight's throat. "Where the fuck am I ?" he snarled, trying his best not to sound like a scared teenage boy He wasn't sure which of the two he was talking to, either would do he guessed. "Seriously, I'm not playing. I will end you." He pushed the weapon closer to the wolf girl's throat. "You guys got no idea how much you messed up taking me here. I swear if either of you raped me, I'll dangle your privates from stakes." His glance darted back and forth between the two. His heart was beating even faster than usual. |

Damn, the boy was fast. Ruby admired the hell out of that. Since evolving into this miserable life when he was about this kid's age, Ruby had seen a few mutations, rarely seeing duplicates, and learning to never underestimate even the most seemingly under-powered kid. This boy was the youngest he'd seen so far, barely old enough to have his balls dropped, frankly, his high voice belying his bold words. He was scared shitless, despite his speed, despite his obvious strength. He threatened the Pup which was a stupid but understandable move. Yeah, she was the more obvious threat, and this kid wasn't experienced enough to know that the ones to look out for were the ones without anything to prove. He put a finger on the girl though and Ruby would knock his ass through a wall with an eyeblink. "Where the fuck am I ?" [Tommy] snarled, trying his best not to sound like a scared teenage boy He wasn't sure which of the two he was talking to, either would do he guessed. "Seriously, I'm not playing. I will end you." He pushed the weapon closer to the wolf girl's throat. "You guys got no idea how much you messed up taking me here. I swear if either of you raped me, I'll dangle your privates from stakes." "Where the fuck you are is in my house, and I'd suggest you put the club down before you make a bigger mistake than just vandalizing my chair." Ruby responded coolly, "I'm not a rapist, I'm not a kidnapper, and I'm not a patient man. Sit your ass down, and play nice, and I won't take your head off." He rose, holding his cane out between the the Pup and the Speedster, and he separated them gently, pushing the girl back. "Heel, Pup, our guest was trying his damnedest to either get himself killed, or get my attention by attacking my city, so we're going to find out why. He keeps up this tough guy act though and you can take a bite or two to teach him manners." How much of what he was saying that his girl understood, Ruby didn't know. Didn't matter. The boy understood. He dropped his cane into a support position, "I'm like you. A mutant. I get what it's like out there, wanting to lash out, wanting to destroy because you can. It's not a bad thing. We're evolved, we're above them. This world should be ours, but let's face facts. They outnumber us and that means at this moment, they outpower us. So we can burn ourselves out in a blaze of glory, or..." A smirk crossed his face, "Or we survive by undermining the foundations of human civilization, using our smarts, our powers and most of all our control." He offered a hand to the boy, "My name's Ruby. I'm sure you've heard of me. I'm going to offer you the chance to learn that control and live the life you deserve. It's up to you to choose, Kid. You want to be a petty thug until SHIELD puts a leash around your neck or a bullet in your brain. Or, you want to be a free man?" |

The wolf girl flinched, taken completely off-guard by the boy's speed and his strength. She reared back, nearly falling backwards onto her backside, but quickly maintained her footing. At first, she was merely curious, but now it was clear that this was a threat, and one that should be dealt with. "Grrrrrwwwwwwwlllll..." her fangs bared, she kept herself between Ruby and the boy. She didn't know what this boy was doing here, but it didn't matter. He threatened her, and potentially threatened Ruby as well. She may not have been fast enough to hurt him, but if he tried to, that wouldn't stop her from fighting to defend the first person who ever showed her kindness. The cane came between her and the boy and gently pushed her back. Physically, Ruby would not have been strong enough to mover her if she didn't want to allow it, but allow it she did, because she trusted him. She stepped back, still keeping her eyes on the boy, fangs still bared, a low growl softly emanating with each breath. There were some words that registered in her brain, some that held some sort of meaning, but she had been a wild animal for so long, that much of it was lost on her. But she did listen. She listened more intently than anyone could have guessed. |

Where the fuck did he wake up ? Was this wolf thing a chick or a dude...or either ? And just who the hell did this douche giving orders think he was anyway ? All these questions mixed with intense fear, confusion and a feeling of lightheadedness as Tommy bit his lip and clung to his makeshift weapon as if it were some sort of life support, as if it could keep him safe should his kidnappers decide to attack. The man at the far side of the room didn't seem too impressed or even very surprised by Tommy's display or superspeed. He certainly wasn't intimidated. The wolf thing however, did flinch as the formerly white haired boy skidded to a halt in front of her, jamming the broken table leg inches away from her throat. He didn't want to hurt her, not really. For all the bravado and random acts of vandalism and badassery, he had never killed someone, never even come close. His thin hand shook and jerked noticeably as he continued to press it against the furry flesh of one of his kidnappers. Tommy was a frail boy. The months that had passed since leaving home ha not been kind to the speedster. His features had grown hard and his eyes weary. What was more, the mutation that granted him his speed also increased his metabolism, giving him the need to eat much more than that of a normal teenage boy. One look at his gaunt frame would tell that he had not adhered to the needs of his body. The man spoke with a confident and stern tone. He was scaring Tommy, though he did his best not to let it show. It wasn't the threats that got to the boy, he was confident that he could outrun whatever it was the man decided to try and take his head off with, it was the content of his promises. The man was saying everything Tommy wanted to hear, everything he had dreamed someone, anyone would say to him since he had struck out on his own. He offered Tommy safety, purpose, and, though he dare not consider it yet, a semblance of an honest to God life, something the boy had lost hope for long ago. Tears began to fill the boys eyes, though he tried his best to keep them contained as the man identified himself as Ruby, the man he had been looking for all along. He really did exist. "Don't- don't mess with me. Don't lie to dude don't--," the tears he had been trying to hide finally fell as the weight of his discovery finally completely hit him. Ruby reached his hand out to Tommy and, with a few seconds hesitation, he finally dropped his weapon and took the man's hand. "You're really gonna help me ?" He coughed out wiping his face and still looking around apprehensivley |

The kid was scared, and he was tired, and he was hungry. Ruby hated that. There were people who knew him who thought he was a monster, nothing but a cold hearted criminal, and yeah, he wasn't Mr. Touchy Feely, and yeah, if his people pissed him off, he was quick to swing a hand or his cane. But, he didn't like to see kids bad off like this. Beta was seventeen when Ruby took him in, the wolf girl, she was even younger. This kid, he barely looked old enough for his balls to have dropped, and he was clearly about to drop. Dropping the chair leg, and taking Ruby's hand in his, the kid got all wet around the eyes and stammered out in the disbelief and despair that Ruby remembered feeling when Jack took him in. "Kid, I've been at this for years now, probably just about as long as you've been alive." Ruby said, completely aware of the tremors in the kid's body, fear, hope, probably more than a bit of hunger by the looks of him, "And as much as my mentor turned out to be a fucking lying prick, there's no denying he saved my life. You looking for some Go With God churchy group here, this isn't the place. We're criminals and we do bad things. But I don't deal hurt our kind, and I don't refuse kids in help. I was orphaned and alone when my powers exploded. I would've been dead if Jack didn't find me." He clapped his free hand on the back of the kid's neck, making him look him in the eyes as best as anyone could with the glasses on. "Kid, you're part of my gang now, you're part of my family, such as it is. I'm going to take care of you, and help you be more than this half starved agent of destruction. I ask that you trust me. I ask that you're honest with me. I ask that you're loyal to me. In return, I'll teach you how to be the superior being that your genes make you, and how to use them to your greatest advantage. Humans are going to make this world something horrible, I can feel it. Surrounding ourselves with wealth and power makes us untouchable, as long as we're smart about it. You're a smart kid, right, think as quick as you move? I have faith you know what's good for you." Releasing the boy, Ruby said, "You're hungry, right? Beta's got a dupe that's been watching all them chef shows on tv 24/7. Let's see what he's learned, huh?" He snapped his fingers to get the wolf girl's attention, "Come on, doll, let's go get something to eat." Glancing at the boy, he smiled, "She's not tame yet, but she's a good kid. C'mon, Girl, he's ok. He's one of us now... even if he hasn't told us his name yet." |

She remained alert and on her guard, teeth bared and a rumbling growl emanating from her throat, despite a broken plank of wood being held against it. She would play her role as defender, even though nobody assigned it to her but herself, even if it meant injury or death. Then the weapon dropped, and the two met in embrace - Ruby and the boy. The wolf girl was confused, not sure what to make of this situation. At one point, the boy was a threat, the next, he was being embraced and spoken to, in that same soft, yet firm tone Ruby spoke to her when he found her not too terribly long ago. Was the boy like her? Was he someone who needed a home and a pack to belong to? When she thought about it, his reaction wasn't all too unlike her own initially, assume you're being threatened until proven otherwise. Maybe he wasn't a bad guy. Maybe. She eased back, taking a step or two back and standing up straighter, no longer at the ready to attack. Her head turned sharply in Ruby's direction as he snapped his fingers, and she watched him with that same intent look in her eyes every time he spoke, trying as hard as she could to decipher the words he was saying, to reap meaning from them. "S... something to eat?" she asked, understanding the words enough to know what they mean, and having caught inquisitive tone from the conversations of the others in the gang that she had intentionally eavesdropped on. They were the first words anyone in the gang would have heard her speak. |

Ruby's demeanor seemed to shift as Tommy took his hand and excepted his offer, though that probably had less to do with the man's tone or actions and more to do with the boy's perception of them. The stern and ruthless manner with which Tommy perceived Ruby to be acting in seemed to melt away, replaced by a more understanding and perhaps even protective visage. Even the wolf creature, which Ruby identified as a girl, seemed to soften around the edges, obviously willing to bend to Ruby's will for her. The man hovered over Tommy, speaking of things in a near familial tone. The young speedster almost literally shook his head in disbelief at the words he was hearing. His mind flashed back to the months he had spent on his own and the hardships that he had endured as a result of them. The thought that those days may now be a thing of the past was obviously something Tommy would have to get used to. Still though, he held onto the thoughts that the streets had ingrained into him.If something seemed too good to be true it probably was, and while he was happy to have the company and possible comrodory that the man seemed to promise, he resolved to sleep with one eye open, at least for a while. Ruby mentioned food, and once again the boy nearly fainted where he stood. "Damn dude, food would be ...great. I don't even care, I'll eat whatever you got. I ain't picky." There was an almost pleading sound in his voice. It was more out habit than any feeling of necessity. The wolf girls spoke. Who knew. Tommy shrugged it off as an oddity among many and kept walking. Ruby asked the boy's name and he hesitated. Ruby was being good to him, but it was still early and Tommy had learned never to trust anyone. "B-Blur, my name is Blur...cause I'm fast," he said, being the first thing that come to mind and still bristling just enough to be noticeable. |

"S... something to eat?" the wolf girl growled, interestedly, and Ruby looked over at her surprised. Glancing back at the boy, he smiled, "What'd you know? That's the first thing I ever heard her say, she must like you. Or maybe she's just hungry." He nodded to the kids, both of them in need in their own ways. "Come on," he said, nodding with his head and leading the two of them out to the kitchen. In the days to come, they'd manage to coax some more words out of the wolf girl including her name, and some trust out of the speedster, and when they were ready Ruby'd teach them to use their powers properly, and for their own benefit. With Blur's speed and ability to project his vibrations or whatever to blast open walls, and Rahne's feral senses and agilities to sniff out guards and evade being seeing, they were going to do well in this organization. Beta and Lorelei proved invaluable, having these extra hands, these new skills? Yeah, this was all going to be worth the money he'd be spending rescuing these two, giving them food, shelter, clothing, whatever precious things they needed to make them feel like they were... cared for. If there was a part of Ruby that felt bad he was training these children in criminality, that he was destroying their lives the way that Jack destroyed his, he didn't recognize it. He didn't see the hypocrisy of what he was doing, keeping his kid brother away from this, yet having no issues with bringing strangers into it. Yeah, they were kids too. Yeah, they deserved something more. But this was how life was. He was making them able to survive in the way he knew how to. Alex... Alex had something more to live up to, wherever he was, building this new reservation down south... These kids belonged here with him, and he'd take care of them... as long as they were useful... always. |

Skipping Ahead One Year - February 13th, 2007 - 6:30 am The past year had seen more growth for Rahne than she'd ever experienced since her breakdown as a child. She had relearned to speak, though not at the advanced level of those who had been doing it most of their lives, had learned well the tricks of the trade as Ruby had taught them to her, but most importantly to her, she had gotten the one thing she had wanted the most during her years of solitude - she had become part of a pack, she had her family. She didn't even mind that she wasn't the alpha female of the pack. She had a place to belong to and people who cared about her. That was the most important thing. Strangely enough, she had begun to look slightly more humanoid in appearance. The shift was subtle, and entirely subconscious, but with each advancement in socialization came a small adjustment to her appearance. Her face was flatter, her physique more noticeable under a slightly thinner (and more well-groomed) layer of fur. She kept her tail, and her pawlike hands and feet, but her overall appearance was noticeably different from when Ruby had first found her. Unchanged, however, were many of her canine mannerisms. She had begun to learn how to be a person, but at heart, she was a wolf, and domestication brought out some doglike qualities to her temperament. This morning, as was true of every morning, Rahne made her paces through the building, roaming down the hallway where the bedrooms were, making sure everyone was safe and still alive. "Good morning, good morning, time for wake ups!" she announced, as she had come to do since learning to speak, whether everyone was ready for it or not. |

It had been a year since Tommy had been taken in by Ruby, not that he even remembered that name. Since the instant he identified himself as Blur to the man that's who he had become. The identity of Tommy Shepard was gone. He shed it like a layer of wet clothes that was weighing him down, leaving little to remind anyone of the awe struck New Jersey boy who had been so lost in the city. He had learned a lot since joining Ruby's makeshift gang. He had learned to control his abilities and hone his destructive vibration blasts. He had learned to deal with the nagging fact that the rest of the world seemed to move so slow around him. And, perhaps most importantly, he learned that even though Ruby gave him a place to stay when he had nowhere, nothing in the world came free. He was wanted as long as he was useful. He was apprieciated as long as he was needed. As difficult a realization as one might have thought that would be for a teenage boy, it was still leaps and bounds ahead of the lives mutants living by themselves had to endure. The time with Ruby had made him hard in a way that was much different than the streets had threatened to. He didn't know if his father was dead. The biggest part of him didn't care. If that bastard was so quick to throw him away like gutter trash than maybe he didn't deserve to live. Still however, there was a small part of him that allowed it's self to be gnawed at by the uncertainty, especially at night. Morning came too early and as Blur drugged himself from his well worn mattress, he stumbled by the mirror, distressed at his reflection. It wasn't his face or build that worried him. In fact, in the year since he had been off the streets, he had become much more healthy looking. The problem was his hair. White roots were beginning to pop out under his jet black hair, and that wasn't acceptable. White hair was Tommy Shepard, and Tommy Shepard was dead. He felt so strongly about keeping that part of himself away that he had never even allowed anyone to see him with his natural hair, unsure if most of them were even aware that black wasn't it's given color. In a flash, he had grabbed a bottle of dye and placed himself in front of the mirror again, applying the product. Just then, he heard the wolf girl down the hall spouting her usual nonsense. "Lord," he muttered to himself. "Fuck, can't I get a damn second to myself in this hole." He threw the bottle under the bed and grabbed a towel removing the stuff from his hair. He headed out to the hall, making a mental note to fix his hair issue later. "What are you so happy about ?" He said as he met the girl. |

Punches from the Punch Dimension
|
Sleeping in the master bedroom, Ruby was alone because he'd sent Lorelei to get some information on their latest mark, one of the humans who'd been heavily targeted by the Culling's earliest stages. He was a public official, big wig in Washington, named Kelly. She was to do whatever it took to get close to him, and she always did her job so well. Ruby hated when she was out on her missions, but they were necessary. He didn't love Raven, and he was pretty sure her feelings for him were a lot more deep than his for her, but he was still accustomed to having her around. He couldn't deny that he liked waking up to the darkness before he opened his eyes, and feeling the weight and warmth of a woman's arm across his chest. When she was with him, he always tried to slip his glasses on without waking her, so that his first glimpse of the day was whatever female form she was wearing that morning. Sometimes it was her natural exotic blue skin, but some nights he asked for different shapes, different women... never the woman he refused to admit he most wanted. Dressed in black cotton pajama pants and nothing else, despite the fact that it was winter outside, (Ruby was wealthy enough to control the weather, at least its effect inside his penthouse suite) he sat up in bed as the commotion began at the other end of the hallway. He would have preferred to have his gaggle of squawking young gang members on another floor, or in another suite entirely, but the Culling had screwed a lot of things, and the War had screwed a lot more. He kept them close because it was a way of keeping them safe, and keeping himself safe. Lots of angry young mutants in the streets, and lots of angry humans ready to attack anyone that they so much suspected as being different. Sounded like Rahne and Blur were at it again. Those kids. Squabbled like brother and sister. He snatched up his glasses and opened his eyes to check the clock. Fuck, it wasn't even 7 am? Christ, that girl was going to be earning herself a muzzle, and that speedster was going to get nailed the floor. Limping to the door, he threw it open and shouted down the hall, "I am going to fucking knock your skulls together if you two don't fucking shut up! What makes you think I want to be woken up at the asscrack of dawn to this shit? This ain't a goddamned boarding school here!" |
