Time of day: indefinite. Place in the time-line January 2010. The Ivvavik National Park Darkness and cold were always the Soviet Super-Soldiers' weapons. In the case of Mrs. Ursus, that was more than a little literal. Laynia, his little doll, was able to use the forces of shadow and darkness like a concert pianist could use his keys. It was therefore, to their advantage to head north, away from the C.A.G.E that had held them so long. Mother Russia was dead to the pair of ex-super soldiers. They had served their country faithfully and earnestly for decades, and were thrown away because they became a political liability. Locked up for their service to the people. It was criminal. It was evil. They traveled by night, using Laynia's powers to hide them. They kept traveling north, Mikhail keeping himself warm with his bear form, and Laynia, either cuddling ontop of his massive back, or covering herself with stolen coats and blankets. The Ursuses settled in Canada, deep into the wilds of the Yukon. Mikhail had been the provider, going out in the wilderness, catching salmon, deer, raccoons, anything that they could cook over the fire. Even now, as age slowed and weakened her, Mikhail trusted his wife to be able to fend off any bears that may try to wander into their new home. Mikhail smiled, thinking back to their first training session together, in the Moscow Red Room all those years ago. Mikhail was barely more than the starving boy they found in the Stanovoy mountains. It was an exploration of the boy's power, and Laynia, who already had been with Professor Phobos and some control over her powers, whipped him like a stubborn mule. Mikhail and Laynia Ursus could have lived in the Yukon for the rest of their lives together, but something was wrong. Her hands were shaking even when the fires were blazing and no one could claim it cold. It was the reemergence of a long-thought overcame disease. Mikhail knew what he had to do. He had to travel to the nearest town, a long walk indeed, and raid the pharmacy. He killed many carcasses, and brought them back to the wife, so that she could eat, and spent days breaking down trees so she may have fire wood. Ursa Major would do anything for his wife. Unfortunately, his willingness to do so was what landed him on SHIELD's hot grid. His intelligent and methodical ransacking of a pharmacy in a small Inuit fishing town in Northern Alaska caught the eye of SHIELD Agent Kenneth Avery. Mikhail Uriokovitich Ursus, a convicted mutant criminal, had just been spotted on American soil. Very soon, Mikhail and Laynia Ursus would be very sad. |
