Dec 1, late evening There were many things that Tommy Shepard felt he was good at. He was capable with his hands, building things in mere blinks., He was bitingly funny and he had always thought of himself as a pretty good looking guy. There was no reason girls shouldn't melt all over themselves in his presence. He was the total package, caring, considerate, and sexy as hell if he did say so himself. There was however one thing he saw as a setback, a single kink in his seductive armor. He couldn't cook, not even a little. It wasn't that he hadn't tried. There were times, many times, that the boy had tried and failed to master even the simplest of culinary creations. It was for this reason that he had spent the entire day in a near whirlwind of stress. He had decided to cook his girlfriend, pop starlet and mutant hottie Kimberly Parker, a super romantic dinner to show her just how sweet and awesome he was. As always though, Tommy's ambition had outpaced his personal restrictions. Luckily however, he was not alone in his travails. He had enlisted the help of Laurie, his best friend and one of most awesome girls he had ever met to help him out. They had been shopping all day, she was so good and giving of her time. Tommy felt a pang of guilt in taking up the girl's day, but looking at her he saw no signs of discontent on her face. Tommy quickly went through his bag, checking for all his needed supplies. Candles, check. Roses, check. The night was going to be famous. Oh Lord, the steak. How are you going to cook great steak and pass it off as mine if without the meat," he said to Laurie. He quickly scanned the nigh time streets, finding a butcher shop, he went buzzing toward the store. "Come on sweetie, hurry up." |

Laurie had never thought of herself as the domesticated type, os the fact that she was out shopping to gather preparations for a huge homecooked meal was just a bit out of the ordinary for her. I mean really, a steak? She only had the smallest idea of what one would do for a steak, so this meal would no doubt be a huge adventure. But she wasn't doing this alone, ohnonono. If she were doing it alone it would be just a little more pathetic than why she was really doing it. Her help in this steak fiasco had been enlisted by her best friend, Tommy Shepard. He'd come to her early this morning with a brilliant idea for dinner with Kimmy Parker, and being the amazing friend that she was, she'd enthusiastically agreed. So, off to see the wizard they'd gone. She'd known for a fact that there was no decent place to get anything for a romantic dinner anywhere close, so the city was the only option. He'd dragged her here, there and everywhere in his excitement (and therefore, naturally, his speed), and she'd uttered not one complaint the entire time. If this was what he wanted to do for his girlfriend, she would most certainly help him do it! In all honesty she had pretty much gotten over his relationship with Kim. Being the naturally emotional loser she was, it had been a rough first month and a half. But, it became very clear that Tommy was head over heels for Kim, so she grew to accept - not like, just willingly accept - both Kim, and their relationship. As they were walking down the streets of New York, Laurie opened the bags in her hands and peeked inside. With the one Tommy was also holding, it seemed as though they had everything... though, Laurie did have the overwhelming feeling that they were missing something fairly obvious. "Tommy I think we have everything..." she said almost apprehensively, to see if he would pick up on what it was they were missing that she couldn't think of. Lightbulb. It finally went off only after Tommy had stated what they were missing. The effing steak. "I have magical powers Tommy, you should know this by now. Pff, steak. Who needs a -- " The poor girl hadn't had time to finish her sentence before she was nearly blown over by the wind Tommy created as he sped towards the meat shop. Laurie mimicked his mocking sentence with her lips in a very immature manner, before running to catch up. "You'll just have to wait for little ol' slow me won't you?" said the girl with a smirk as she changed her pace to deliberate slow motion. |

Tommy went whizzing to the door of the butcher shop at a speed that while quick, wasn't quite fast enough to draw attention from the bustling crowd walking the streets. As per the usual, he turned around at the door, waiting on Laurie to catch up. In the few months since he had known her, Tommy had become accustomed to the ebbs and flows of the way the girl moved. This time however, when he looked over his shoulder, he found her walking in mock slow motion. "Oh, hurry up," he said smirking and ducking into the butcher shop. Then suddenly, he popped his head back out the door and onto the street. "Dork," he said to the girl, before disappearing into the store again. The butcher shop was a small, obviously old building, that the speedster imagined had been run by the same family since the dawn of time. It just seemed like that kind of place. The walls were plain and the white paint chipped and faded. "Sorry son, were about to close up," the rough looking man who stood behind the counter said when he saw Tommy enter. Tommy began a tirade."Oh, oh no. I'll just be a second. I promise, see I need some stuff for this dinner, and it's really important and it's really..," "Alright, okay. Geez, just hurry up okay." the old man said, cutting the boy off. "Thanks," he said, darting off to the glass case which held the beef cuts. Looking over them, he saw that the selection wasn't anything to brag about. Looking at the now entered Laurie, he whispered, "There's not much here. You know I think they keep the good stuff in the back. There's a whole freezer back there, I bet I could find something." Tommy looked at the man, who seemed half asleep behind his counter. "Look at him, he's two hundred years old. We can slip back there, get some prime stuff and leave him some money on the table. Follow my lead." Tommy walked over to the man. He grabbed some of the jerky from the bowl that sat beside him. With a quick jerk, he knocked over the bowl, spilling the jerky onto the man and then the floor. "Oh, sorry dude." Tommy said with mock sincerity. Then when the man bent down to pick up the mess, he was off. In an instant he was inside the meat locker, surrounded by the sort of huge prime cuts that he knew would be in there. "Bingo," he said happily , shivering and folding his arms to block him from the cold. |

Laurie knew that it was extremely unfair of her to tease the Speedster as she was, because what might seem like a couple of seconds for her is like ten minutes to him. Regardless, she decided that it was too much fun to watch him squirm as he waited for her. He had long since entered the butcher shop, leaving her behind to make her look like an idiot in front of a whole city. Ah, whatever. You only live once. She continued at this glacial pace until he peeked his head out and called her a dork. It was then that she smiled in response and sped up to a jog, finally reaching the butcher shop. As she entered she saw Tommy at a glass window, looking inside. Obviously scouring for the absolute perfect piece of meat to make for Kim. She smiled just a little bit, waiting in the door frame as he examined just which piece of meat would be worthy of his rockstar girlfriend's standards. Just as she saw him pull away from the glass, she slowly entered and headed towards him. Tommy whispered that he was going to venture to the back to look for their better product. How he knew which piece of meat was quality and which wasn't was beyond her - it was all the same in her eyes. Apparently this was going to be a grand dinner indeed, with Tommy's expectations. She looked over at the grown man sitting behind his desk. Indeed - old and fat, not a good combination when one is about to get had by teenage mutants. "Follow my lead." Laurie chuckled outwardly, and set out towards the very sweaty, very old and obese man. She took a moment to change her demeanor to that of enthusiasm, and hopped in front of the hold man's desk. "Excuse me sir, I'm looking to buy some veggie burgers, do you have any veggie burgers?" She began to release her pheromones on him, particularly pheromones of - regrettably - infatuation. "I know this is a butcher shop and veggie burgers aren't really meat or anything like that," she continued babbling as Tommy strolled over. Whether or not the man noticed that she had faint yellow streaks of energy emitting from her person was unknown to her - if he did, he probably thoguht nothing of it in his current state. As he stared stupidly at her, Tommy conveniently knocked over the jerky, breaking Laurie's faint hold on him momentarily. She panicked for a second and released them twice as strong in response to her panic. She bent down to help him pick up the jerky, and her worst nightmare occurred. He leaned in. There was a sweaty old man in her face trying to kiss her. "Sorry sir, turns out I don't need those veggie burgers anymore," said the girl as she immediately switched her pheromones from infatuation to fatigue. He didn't stop leaning towards her however, and Laurie could feel her impending doom. She panicked and scrambled backwards, but as she did her panic strengthened her pheromones. Before she could stand up, the man fell to the f loor and began to snore. She observed her handiwork to make sure that the man had indeed been knocked out by her power, and picked herself up off the floor. "Sorry, sir," said the girl quietly. Wiping off her jeans, she sighed. "The things I do for friends," said the girl, shaking her head before she joined Tommy in the freezer. She pulled her jacket and scarf tighter around her as she came up beside him and looked around. "See anything worthy of your woman?" |

Tommy walked around the freezing locker, surveying what was the freshest cuts the small butcher shop had to offer. He folded his arms together in front of his chest, doing his best to try and stay warm. He looked around, there were huge almost nearly whole cows hanging from hooks on the ceiling and large mounds of meats wrapped in white paper. In the back of his mind, the young speedster felt a spark of uneasiness. He knew next to nothing about cows or steak or how cows are turned into steak, so his objectiveness on the subject, while in character, was pretty much without merit. It was during his third trip around the semi spacious freezer that he saw Laurie. He had half expected for the girl to wait outside and throw her considerable charm on the older man. She looks almost as out of place as he felt, strutting up to the boy sparkling of her usual optimism. "Where's the guy, I thought you were going to keep him busy," Tommy shrugged and went back to looking. "So I was out of these two this huge pieces of unidentifiable meat. They both seem hefty what do you think ?" Waiting for her reply and grabbing the first one he went back toward the door. Weaving through the large hanging carcuses he said, "Come on, hurry up slowpoke." Making it to the door, he found that it was closed. "Oh no...Laurie, did you shut the door ?" He pulled on the handle only to find it locked. "Oh no, this is not good. This is ......this is less than ideal." Pacing at the locked door for what was only an instant he snapped his fingers as his face lit up with an idea. "I got it. I'll use my vibration things. Stand back Laurie. I'm gonna bust us out of here." Focusing and paying no mind to the fact that he had only used his vibrations maybe three times in his life, none of them purposely, he straightend his arms out. With a boom he allowed the force within him to leave through his arms, jutting back and landing hard on the floor of the freezer, he watched as the energy missed the door and hit and destroyed a what was probably half a cow. Looking around from the floor, he noticed that the world had sped up to meet him, or was it the opposite. "Not exactly what I was going for." |

As Laurie entered the meat locker, she looked around and tried to figure out which was which. Some made it fairly easy, with the arms still attached, but some were wrapped in paper and Laurie had absolutely no idea how to tell what they were. She knew that darker, red meat was beef but that was about it. So yes, this was definitely going to be an adventure. She took a couple of steps into the room and watched as Tommy made a few rounds at medium speed, which would have been top speed for her. She smiled and waved at him when he finally stopped and noticed her standing there. Laurie chuckled a bit uneasily as Tommy asked about the man that had been outside. "Ah, yes. Well, there were some minor complications, and he's snoring on the floor right now," she said, trying to wave it off as just a minor setback - which it was anyway. He was fairly old, he probably wouldn't even remember when he woke up. "Anyway, that's unimportant, lets just chill and pick out some delicious grub. We still have to cook it you know, which will take a while," she said, tucking her hands into her pockets and running to keep up with Tommy as he made rounds. As he pointed out a couple pieces of meat, Laurie examined them. "I think this one is pork..." she said, poking at it. "And I think this one is beef, so it depends on whether you want pork or beef. But if it turns out to be some crazy like moose, don't hold me accountable," she continued rambling as she looked between the two until once was taken from under her nose. "Pork it is then," she said with a satisfied smile. "Alright, let's get back so we ca -" She couldn't finish her sentence before she came face to face with a close door. "Um... I don't know. Shit, did I close the door?" she asked no one in particular. She might have out of habit. Which was bad. Very, very bad. Laurie prepared herself for the boom, covering her ears and her head in a duck motion. When she looked up after she heard the boom, she expected to see the door blown off. What she saw, however, was TOmmy lying on the floor in a pathetic heap, and lots of tiny little pieces of what she guessed was once a cow. "No, that was not desirable at all," she said, walking over to him and holding out her hand to pull him up. "Try again? We can't stay locked in this freezer if you want to get back and get that poor helpless animal cooked up and ready for munching." She especially wasn't dressed for chilling in a freezer for any longer than was necessary. She pulled Tommy off of his feet. "I hate to be a downer, but if you can't boom right through that door, we're going to die here." |

The world was slow and spinning, sickening to the speedster as he tried to gather up enough strength to stand. The use of his powers had drained him more than he had imagined it could. His hands, with their sluggish and leaden movements, seemed like a strangers as he tried to steady them on the cold floor of the freezer. His first attempt was futile as he plummeted back to the ground, landing on his shoulder and hearing a bit of a pop. "Ow," he muttered, his face still planted downward. "Guess I needed a little more practice." He began to shiver as he struggled to become accustomed to the pace with which the rest of the world lived their lives. This was no fun. He huffed and, with a jerk, tossed over on his back, staring up at the hook riddled ceiling. He laid there for a moment, trying to gather his strength again and thinking that there was no way that his powers were working correctly. "This can't be right Laurie." He looked at the girl, even now in such a situation she was sunny. It was only one of the many special things about the girl. She had came into the young speedster's life at a time when he really needed a friend, and proceeded to fit the bill quite nicely. She had been there for him in what had become without question the strangest and most complicated period of his life, and now, because of his stupidity, she was in trouble. "Look, Laurie, I'm sorry. This is all my fault. I mean, I'm not the one who closed the door or anything but still," he added quickly, shouting her a small familiar smile. She wasn't the only one who was trying to stay positive. "The point is, I know you put yourself out for me a lot . You're a good friend, probably the best one I've ever had, and I'm really sorry I did this to you." With a huff, he pulled himself up to the point of sitting straight up just in time to hear Laurie throw out her prophesized death knell. "Aw, we're going to be okay kid. Come here." He opened his arms motioning for the girl. |

Laurie would have chuckled at their situation if it wasn't possible that they could turn into icicles should they not get out. She had almost gotten her lips locked with a sweaty overweight man, Tommy had fallen on his ass and now they were stuck in a very, very cold meat locker. After they got out, ten years in the future, they would look back on this moment and laugh their asses off - she could feel it. But now it wasn't really so funny. Still, she was trying to stay on the bright side of the situation - something she'd never known how to do until she met Tommy. She thanked her lucky stars that she had decided to eat her spaghetti outside the day they met, regardless of the fact that her clothes had been completely ruined. Had she been a hermit and stayed in her room, he never would have zoomed past her. And as such, she wouldn't have made her best friend. "I think you got a bit too ambitious there, Sparky," Laurie said with a chuckle. Time was passing by quite normally for her, but Tommy appeared to be moving sluggishly. After that blast failed, his powers must have gone on the fritz because he wasn't moving quite as quick as he normally would "You alright there buddy?" she asked. "Yeah, I think your powers had a seizure... can they do that?" she asked, a bit confused by the whole situation. "This isn't your fault Tommy, don't be crazy, you crazy person. It's not really either of our faults. Except it's mine because I shut the door without thinking, but I digress. You didn't do anything to me buddy, don't get all upset," she said, wagging a finger at him. "Except you might not get back in time to throw Kimmy her amaingly delicious dinner," she said, waving his apology off. It wasn't his fault at all, and they most certainly didn't need to play the blame game right now. He didn't seem to be able to sit up straight, so Laurie plopped herself down on the floor beside him, so as to keep him company while he was still stuck to the floor. He held his arms open for her so she scootched closer and fit herself in. "Well this is one way to stay warm," she said with a chuckle. She leaned her head on his shoulder and sighed, enjoying the closeness that she hadn't been able to experience lately. "I don't really think we're going to die... we might just have really super bad frost bite?" "So will Kimmy shank you if you show up with no dinner and blue lips?" she asked as she looked around the meat locker. "What was this dinner for anyway, I didn't get much detail on it. Just to woo her all over again?" she asked, being politely curious. As she was sitting with him and dicsussing Kim, and after shopping for Kim all day, Laurie was actually beginning to feel the feelings she'd had for Tommy before she buried them in order to be a supportive friend. Get over it Laurie, you'll get out of here later and he'll go back to Kim and you'll go back to burying these feelings just as you have been, her mind told her harshly. Don't dredge them up now. |

Laurie was bright and sunny. She was happy and at ease with herself in a way that was amazing in another person. Her humor, as Tommy had grown to find it, was just the right balance of sarcasm and optimism. He took comfort in her, even in situations like this. The girl laughed off Tommy's epic power fail and seemed to try her best to make the drained boy feel better about himself. "Well, it is kinda your fault," he said jokingly , chuckling at his friend as she fit herself snugly into his grasp. "But your way too cute to blame so..." Her body was cold, though still noticeably warmer than his near empty form. "Lord, that took a lot out of me." He began, almost absentmindedly , rubbing his hands up and down her arms in an attempt to keep them both warm. "This is like a bad Honeymooners. Any idea how long the old dude is gonna stay unconscious for ? Maybe he can get us out of here before we turn into super attractive pubescent popsicles." Laurie started asking about Kimmy, worrying about the proposed dinner. Tommy held in a bit of a smile as he realizied how far the friends had come since their early days of girl on girl resentment. "She'll probably get pissed at me and then write a song about it." he joked, smiling at the almost jab that only someone he considered a close friend would be privy to. His body shifted as he felt the smallest of changes in the aura between them. He cleared his throat as he suddenly became aware of just how close he was to the girl who used to have a crush on him. He began to feel a bit guilty about their relationship. Had he led her on ? Did she think something was wrong with her because he hadn't shared her obvious but still unspoken feelings ? He leaned up and grabbed her hand. If he was being honest with himself, he felt a bit of a spark as their skin met. He leaned up and looked into her eyes. "You're awesome you know. I mean seriously, I probably don't tell you enough but I'm really lucky to have somebody like you in my life. You're a really good friend." The last word stuck in his throat as if it were a lie. His eyes lingered on the girl, not sure what else to add. |

Selfish or not, Laurie was definitely enjoying this time alone with Tommy. Lately he had been so worked up over Kim, falling all over the place trying to make her happy. Laurie had fallen into the background just a little bit, but he did still come to her for important talks and decisions. Still, considering how close they had been before all of this Kimmy nonsense, they had definitely been failing friendship school. Which was why she had agreed to come today in the first place. Not only to raise a white flag and support Tommy and Kim, but to also soak in the time that she got to spend alone with him. Just like old times, except instead of Tommy whining to Laurie about Kimmy, she got to help him prepare romantic meals. And keep some of the prepared foods for herself. Laurie smiled in a cheeky manner. "Yes, sometimes being cute can be rewarding," she said, but woe was immediately replaced by cheekiness. "But it can also be a huge burden, my friend. Remember that." This was exactly what she had missed about hanging out with Tommy - their playful banter, the ease with which they could talk, and the fact that Tommy actually listened to her. He had been good for her - an integral player in bringing her out of her shell and teaching her to be herself without worrying about what other people might think or feel. And in doing so, he also - although it may not be known to him - played an integral role in helping her overcome and control her power. "Fat guy? I think I knocked him out pretty good, but who knows. I don't think my power is strong enough to keep a hold on him for long," she said anxiously. "Which I hope it doesn't, because even though you may not know this, half of that meat was coming back to my room and you weren't ever going to see it again." Honesty is the best policy, is it not? "Singing is what Kim does best," Laurie said in response to Tommy's comment, though not without snorting in humour at the idea of it. "Which isn't saying much." As long as he was jabbing at her, Laurie was going to as well. Of course, he was her boyfriend and probably had more of a right to make jokes about her, because he really did love her. Laurie actually meant what she was saying. Tommy didn't necessarily have to know that however, so she brushed her comment off with a wink and a chuckle. As things got a bit more quiet between the two and they simply stayed huddled together, Laurie could tell that the entire demeanor of the situation had changed. Friends don't typically cuddle like this, not when one party has a girlfriend, and the other had a crush on said party with a girlfriend. Still, she snugged herself closer to him . Although he was making her uneasy, he was still her primary source of comfort. Strange situation to be in, yes? And then she almost had a heart attack. He reached out and took her hand out of nowhere, and turned her so that they were looking directly into each other's eyes. What in the hell was he about to do? His speech made her all the more uneasy, but the comfort in his touch was counteracting the unease. She absolutely had no idea what she was feeling anymore. Quite the emotional mess, in fact. Then the last word hit. Friend. She forced a smile onto her face and broke eye contact. Whatever the hell she was feeling before had faded back into disappointment the second that word fell from Tommy's lips. She had restored her emotional computer to an earlier setting - tense and vulnerable. As she stared down at their laps, she struggled regained composure and looked back up, forced smile still in tact. She tightened her grip on his hand, to make sure that he knew she agreed. "You don't need to tell me stuff like that Tommy," she said with a smile. "That's the kind of reassurance that a girlfriend needs, not a friend," she insisted. However, she couldn't let him get away with saying such amazing compliments without returning the favour, even if it made the aituation worse. He had told her how he felt, so she was going to respond in kind. She naturally reached up and gently touched his cheek. "Same to you, kiddo. I could give you an elaborate speech about how you've affected my life, but we could be here all night." She rubbed his cheek with her thumb just to prove her point. Her hands sloppily fell from his cheek down onto his leg, and she attempted to lean away from him in order to ease the tension, but her mind refused to comply with her body's requests. She was staying put, dammit. This could end badly. |

Tommy's heart sped up and jumped around the inside of his chest as he sat, clinging to his friend. The air around the two was different tonight, it seemed full of possibility, so much so that the speedster almost thought that the girl was messing with him, using her mutant powers to affect the way he saw and registered things. He didn't dare vocalize this however. He was afraid to offend her, but mostly because he didn't really believe it. He had known Laurie long and well enough to be sure that she would never screw with him like that. That sort of thing wasn't her style. She was too honest, too good. Perhaps that's the reason she was blessed with such a powerful gift, because whoever or whatever it was that bestowed these abilities onto each mutant must have seen her fit and capable for handling the obvious temptations Tommy imagined came with being able to get people to do whatever you want. The cold bit, sniping around the two as he pulled his friend even closer in, trying to make sure she would be warm. He felt more than a little guilty at putting her in this situation, and even worse about screwing up with his powers and not being able to get them out. He had apologized profusely but, as she always did, she laughed it off, doing her best to absolve him from any feelings of responsibility. Laurie threw a jab at Kimmy, bringing into question her singing abilities. Tommy grinned. Though, he probably wouldn't admit it to either of them, the speedster found a sort of flattering humor in the way the girls often sniped at each other. He was a guy after all, and what guy didn't like the idea of two girls fighting over him, even if that wasn't exactly what was happening here. "Aw, she's a good singer, sweetheart.", he continued to smile and dug his head into the back of Laurie's shoulder to stifle a chuckle. Then he put his foot in his mouth. He felt the connection between he and Laurie shift when he defined her as a friend. She straightened and became a little more distant. But what was wrong with that ? They were friends after all, weren't they ? Tommy couldn't shake the feeling that he was being dense, and very stereotypically male. She reached up and brushed his cheek. Sparks seemed to fly from her fingertips as he almost stuttered under her touch. Her hand dropped and gently landed onto his leg. He put his hand over her own, pinning it into place. He didn't really understand it, but the thought of her not touching him at this moment seemed unfathomable. She said something about friends and girlfriends and the line between the two catorgories. Tommy was sure she made good points. He was confident that her words would be reasonable and solid, but for the life of him he couldn't pay them any attention. All he could think about was how beautiful her lips looked as they formed the words. "I know, I'm sorry," he said in hushed almost secondary tones and he, nearly unconsciously moved closer to the girl. "I know. Just friends." he said, as his lips grew even closer to hers. She didn't seem to be moving. She wasn't pulling back or even flinching at the idea. What are you doing Tommy ? "Just friends," his voice was almost a whisper and he was mere centimeters away from the girl now. |

As Laurie sat in the freezing meat locker with Tommy's arms locke firmly around her, she let herself slip into the deluded idea that Kim didn't exist in reality, and that she and Tommy were exactly where she had wanted them to be for a long time. Together. If a stranger were to witness this scene, they'd think so anoyhow - why couldn't she entertain the idea? Because you're insane and you know it's not true, her mind reasoned with her. And while on a good day she would listen to her conscience, today she felt rebellious. Go die in a hole for five minutes conscience, you don't get it. So, as her conscience was temporarily dead, Laurie cuddled herself in close with him, relying on their body heat to keep her warm. "In what realm is Kim a good singer? Tommyland?" She poked at him gently, simply enjoying their banter and his company. "Sorry buddy, someone has to be the bearer of bad news." She reveled in the feeling of being close to him for all of three minutes, until her conscience finally revived itself and began to reason with her brain. Which was about to explode. As her conscience removed her from her delusion, Laurie could see very clearly the entire situation between her and Tommy. It was emotionally grinding and confusing, and she wasn't entirely sure how to handle it. She was so close to him, inappropriately close in fact, and she kenw that she didn't belong. She knew that she shouldn't fit so easily into his arms, and that she shouldn't be so comfortable and at home in his embrace. And yet, he didn't seem to mind all that much. She wasn't secreting pheromones, so why had the aura between then shifted so drastically? They had gone from playful and comfortable to nervous and tense in a matter of minutes. Wow, meat lockers can really mess a person up. As the emotional rollercoaster went crazy, nearly tearing off the tracks altogether, Laurie went from nervous to anxious to infatuated to tense to somewhat defeated so quickly she felt rather nauseous. All kinds of sparks were exploding in every direction as she touched him and he touched her, but the second his hand touched hers all of her tension and anxiety seemed to disappear. She could no longer avoid eye contact with him as he began to move in closer to her, repeating the word friend over and over again. Holy crap, holy shit, holy crap, was reeling in the back of her mind as the two leaned in closer. She was about to get what she had been waiting for for months. Until a very confused fat guy decided to wake up and open the meat locker. His grunt broke through Laurie's toughts and completely ruined the moment. In reaction to his presence, Laurie was sent jumping backwards away from Tommy and scrambling to her feet. She looked awkwardly between the two, eventually making the executive decision to speak. "Sorry sir, so sorry. You were asleep at your desk and we just wanted some dead animals to make for dinner so we came in here and the door locked and -" Laurie trailed off babbling, in an attempt to create an excuse while her mind was still reeling from what had almost just taken place thirty second ago. The man wasn't buying her story, so Laurie moved just close enough to him so that her physical pheromones didn't have to show as she transposed his skeptcism with calmness. The man physically relaxed and smiled at her. "Is fine, as long as you are ok," said the man in an Italian accent, and she nodded. "Pick what you want and just close front door when done, I am leaving for the night," said the man with a nod, before turning and exiting the shop. Laurie held the door open and stared a bit nervously at Tommy. "You still want that pork?" |

This was happening. After months and months of being the best of friends, A veil had been lifted for Tommy. Maybe it was the closeness in proximity or the bite in the air, but for the first time the speedster was seeing his friend in a different light. Sure, there had been times when the boy saw a spark of something in the young blond. He was a guy after all. There were moments when the sun bounced just the right way off of her perfect skin, or there in her laugh when they shared the sort of joke that only the two of them would find funny, that he glimpsed a sliver of what he knew now was evident to the whole world. This girl was amazing. Everything about her was flawless. Well, if not flawless in the traditional sense, then a near perfect match for him. His heart was nearly bouncing out of his chest as they grew closer. He was repeating the same words over and over again like some sort of love struck parrot. He could feel her, her breath warm and inviting on his aching lips. The moment was nearly there. There was nothing in the world that could stop this. Then, like an alarm clock shooting them back to reality, the old butcher came busting through the metal door of the freezer. Son of a-- Speed dropped his head as Laurie shot away from him in shock. She jumped to the ready, using her powers to sedate the angry owner. It would of been an impressive feat if it wouldn't have been so secondary in the boy's mind. His thoughts were spinning as he exited the cold freezer and into the front of the shop. "You still want that pork?" "Uh, no," he said to Laurie's question. He couldn't tell whether she was joking or not. He couldn't tell anything anymore. He dodged eye contact as he slid past her and outside the store. He didn't want to look at her. His thoughts were a mix between shame and longing. He had a girlfriend, one he loved. She knew that. She had helped him come to terms with it. Still, everything he had felt about Laurie was true. They were his feelings, he knew that now, and no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't go back to not knowing. "You know," he stuttered out, putting his hands on his head nervously. He reached for something to say, but came up empty. Was she embarrassed ? How could she not be, he was mortified. His nerves and shame got the best of him and he finally spoke. "I-I forgot something, something I need to get by myself. Do you think you can find your own way home ?" It was a coward's move. He knew that, but he just couldn't imagine carrying her back to the school after everything that had happened. "I'll see you when I get back okay." He then shot off, not really sure he could face her even after he had returned. |
