Date: November 30th Time: 4:30 pm Regulate breathing. Try to regulate heartbeat. That was harder than it sounded while running as fast as Jason was. Well, it's hard no matter what but Jason knew that he had to gain control of his body. Mutant powers came in many forms, and Jason's were entirely contained in his bone and muscle. He had to gain control over his powers for several reasons. Jason had previously actually learned how to keep from crushing bones by accident, but while he was here it was time for him to try to grow even more. Jason had been doing a couple of exercises to try to build up his control. He knew it would be hard. Right now he was just running. But it was a little more than that. When his powers spiked without his bidding his now insanely strong legs propelled him far enough to win an olympic gold medal. Kind of like just now. Of course, this was not safe to do on a treadmill, because he would break it. Kind of like he just did. Only instead of a treadmill Jason broke a tree. Yeah, big ole' tree went crunch. Jason emerged totally unscathed and walks back to the main trail. Jason was really trying not to cause a whole lot of damage to the ecosystem. He usually just launched forward ahead in the trail. Hopefully he would do better before people started to complain. Jason sat down on the trail and calmed himself. This was the easy part. He could do this quickly, but maintaining a calm through any kind of activity was harder. His breathing calmed, his powers wound down. Jason inhaled deeply and opened his eyes to start all over again. |

As it was so chilly outside, Meggan had decided to put on a pair of shoes, a scuffed little pair of Converse, for when she needed to put her feet on the ground outside, as it would be muddy, cold, generally not very nice and would mean she’d have to take another shower when one shower a day was quite enough when you had long, tumbling hair past your waist like Meggan did. Currently, said hair was tied back into a messy plait, keeping it mostly out of her face, very helpful when she flew fast and the wind didn’t seem to agree on what direction she was heading in and send it into her eyes, her mouth and even her nose, which was not very pleasant. Hair didn’t taste very nice, at all. Oh…Slowing down in her flight, her breath coming out in clouds of smoke like a dragon, her blue eyes were fixed on a tree that had been a bit smashed up. Aww, now who had wanted to hurt a tree? Trees never did anything wrong to anyone, it was people who did the bad things, like cut them down or damage them…Her eyes shifted to the boy sat on the track, and she recognised him as Jason. Ooh, yes, he was back wasn’t he? Well, so she’d heard anyway, having not seen him in that short period. Landing from her lofty position up in the air, she stayed a little behind him. “Hello! What…happened to the tree?” she asked, knowing she must sound a little silly, but she didn’t want to be rude and greet him by reminding him that she was the one who had saved his life back during the troubled flight out of the school, to apparent safety. “Are you alright? Isn’t it cold on the ground there?” she asked, taking a light step closer to him and grinned, just in case he turned around to look at her, which she hoped he would as that would be nicer than talking to his back. |

Jason didn't even hear Meggan land behind him, so he was a little surprised to hear her voice. It was a valid question. To an onlooker it would seem that he just kind of had some kind of vendetta against the tree. He knew that she wasn't running behind him. That would have been pretty difficult. Jason didn't really get tired. He could run for hours. Even if he wasn't using his power, the amount of energy it took to power his muscles at their normal level was insignificant. Since he didn't get tired he kept up an olympic level. Since she wasn't running obviously, he could guess that she was probably flying. Jason stood up and turned around, "Well, the tree talked bad about my mother so..." he smirked. Meggan had an... interesting way of talking but it was kind of fun. Jason kind of liked it. There was something nice about her just telling it like it was, always. Maybe she was always literal which made Jason's frequent sarcasm kind of go over her head but it was still an interesting conversation always. In retrospect, she may just give him a funny look when he said that the tree talked bad about his mom. Well, at least Jason managed to amuse himself. "Yeah, I'm fine. It takes a lot more than a tree to damage me. I was just getting my powers back under control. I would think that it would be colder up there," he said, pointing at the sky, "Though it's good to see your still flying. I might be in trouble if you ever stopped." Jason had thanked Meggan several times before he left, but really there was no ignoring that he might be dead right now if she hadn't snatched him out of the air. The more he thought about it, the more he was convinced that he wouldn't have made it. Yes, he would have survived the impact, but he would have plunged hundreds of feet into the water. It was too dark for him to find out which was was up, and he probably would have drowned. In retrospect, he would rather have died upon impact but luckily he didn't have to find out since Meggan caught him before he hit the water. Jason looked up in the sky wistfully. He wished he could fly sometimes, really fly. He could jump and sail through the air but to really just launch yourself and do flips or whatever... yeah, that would be nice. "It must be really great to have the sky all to yourself" he said, as much to himself as to her. |

For a spilt second, Meggan’s eyes widened as Jason explained that the tree had been rude, and her initial thought, before anything else was the shock that if a tree were to speak, it would say only bad things, but then she realised he was fibbing, making a joke because he didn’t want to tell her the real reason why he had beaten the tree up. “Oh. Well I’m sure whatever is wrong the tree didn’t do anything to deserve it. Poor tree, growing here in the nice and quiet for years and years then a school comes along and suddenly there’s lots of people everywhere…” The fey girl loved nature, she loved being outside in the fresh air, seeing grass and trees and water, rocks, bushes, flowers and moss, so seeing the tree all broken, it made her sad inside. Crouching down, she picked up a splintered piece of wood and held it in her hands, inspecting it and inhaling the lovely smell coming from the wood and sap. Looking back up at him, she listened intently and smiled. “Yes, well as long as you’re not hurt, that’s good. And it is cold, I suppose, but I don’t really feel the cold when I'm flying, not badly anyway. I like being up in the air…It’s - ” jumping up to her feet, she couldn’t find the words to describe it all of a sudden, not to someone who couldn’t fly on their own and thus understand how it felt, to fly, because it was as if you were free, and really free, not just how people thought the feeling was like. Her cheeks tinted red a little, as she understood he was talking about that day on the platform, during the hurricane. Some people had found it a little hard to understand that she had just jumped after him, and this confused Meggan, as what else was she supposed to have done? If she hadn’t he might have been drowned or crushed or worse. The young gypsy had fully embraced life at the school, wanting nothing more than to one day wear an X with pride on her uniform and save people, so she might as well start now. "It must be really great to have the sky all to yourself" “Oh, it is! It really is! It’s like…It’s like the best feeling, like eating the best ice cream or finding something you thought was lost forever, or being in a big field and just running and running then lying on your back to look up at the clouds…” her eyes shone as she tried to put into words the joy that flying brought, how happy it made her when she was up in the air. “I wish more people could fly, though…Not too many, else everyone would fly and the sky would be full and then it wouldn’t be so much fun…” she blushed, realising that must sound a little selfish, to want to keep her sky free and open, while other people could only stand on the ground and hope. |

Wow she really was a nature lover. Jason was actually feeling a little guilty now. She was right, the tree really hadn't done anything to deserve it. It was certainly a way of thinking of things that Jason hadn't thought of before. The institute was such a nice place, it was odd to think of it as displacing things. Unfortunately that was the way the world worked. Of course, change was made by people who didn't see the world as having to work that way. Meggan definitely didn't see the world a way that anyone else did, that's for sure. "It was an accident," he said quietly, not wanting to make it look like he didn't care at all or that he just went around destroying things for no good reason. Jason easily imagine what she was trying to do. It was the same as he had tried to do to his family from time to time. It was impossible to explain what it felt like to use your mutant power to someone who didn't share it. It was like trying to explain to Meggan the rush he got when energy coursed through his veins and he wielded enough power to render almost anything a pile of scrap at his whim. He tried to keep it in perspective, but damn if it didn't feel good. Clearly she felt the same way about her own gift. His words began a torrent of excitement. The things she compared it to were all indescribable. You couldn't explain that feeling, that sensation. It just had to be experienced. She was generous with it, wishing it upon others. But still, she didn't want it to ruin what she had. Jason understood that. After all, how fun would it be if everyone was super strong. Then he wouldn't be special. Jason liked being special. Probably rooted in being ignored in school, but whatever. He liked it and as long as he kept a healthy perspective he figured there was no harm. "I know what you mean. If everyone can do it, then what's the fun? It's most fun to be free, and that's not something to feel bad about. I don't," he said, picking a rock off the side of the path and turning it into dust with a clench of his muscles to illustrate what he meant, "After all, we get enough trouble out of our mutations. Why not enjoy them too?" |

“Oh…” Jason’s revelation that it had been an accident made her feel a little bit bad. Maybe he had just been embarrassed about admitting it to her, and so had just said it was an accident, but that was silly, Meggan didn’t think people were daft if they had accidents, she understood them very well about it. “Well, I won’t tell anyone you had an accident...” she started picking up splintered bits of wood that had gotten as far as the path, tidying them to the side. “Nature’ll take care of the tree. Maybe some animal will make a home in what’s left of it now, and it will rot so it won’t go to waste…” she informed him in her usual dreamy tone, just so he knew she didn’t hold anything personal on behalf of the tree. Job done, she dusted her hands down and looked up as he started to speak, nodding in agreement. “It’s like…we all have to do maths and everything but it’s boring because we have to and need to. Well, some people like maths but I don’t, it’s dull,” her nose wrinkled up a little bit as she thought about the loathed subject and the homework that she still had to complete. Meggan nodded in agreement, even more furiously as she thought about his comment on being free. “I like being free…It’s much better than being shut away,” she watched the rock turning to dust in his hand, marvelling again at the variety of mutant powers. No one was really the same. Of course, people had sort of the same powers, like Sofia could fly too, and Melody could, but they flew different to her. “Oh, my mutation is very troublesome sometimes! Especially when I do that thing where I change to look like other people or change at funny times because it’s cold so I’ll grow fur…” the fey young girl trailed off, shaking her blonde head. “But when my powers’re fun, they’re really fun! So, that makes up for it all really I suppose…” “What were you doing out here anyway?” she asked, curious now that the problem of the tree had been resolved firmly in her muddled mind. |

Definitely a nature person. Jason really hadn't thought of that aspect of things. He didn't really know how nature worked that way. He learned about it, so it was in his head but all he saw in front of him was a destroyed tree. Well, at least something good would come from it. Her literal way of saying things sometimes seemed to come out of a movie or something, but he knew that it was just the way that she was. There was something to be said for stating something people already knew. She was right, it was more fun to be free than shut away. Lack of freedom was always something that Jason feared. He had been locked up once. It didn't last and from then on for all the problems that he had in his life he had always kept a firm grasp on his freedom. Even now Jason had the route from the school to the train station memorized in his head. "Well," he said, deciding whether to answer the simple way (just running) or actually explain what he was doing out there, "Working on a new kind of power control. Trying to keep myself from losing control while exercising. When I don't I kind of jump forward really far and..." he motioned to the destroyed tree, "My powers don't come without down sides either. Though I don't spontaneously grow fur. I just wreck stuff. Mr. Grey-Summers says he's going to send me a bill when I graduate. I hope he's just kidding, but he doesn't joke a lot so I should probably start saving." |

“Oh?” the young gypsy queried as he spoke about learning a new way to control his powers. She honestly found all the different powers at Xavier’s so interesting and wonderful, if a little confusing, and she did wonder how different people controlled all their different powers sometimes, even if it did make her head hurt a little bit in the process. It was nice that he had come back after being gone, he must really want to learn and be a part of things, if he’d done that, because he’d realised he really wanted to be at the school, at least she supposed anyway. Meggan grinned a little bit. “Oh, growing fur isn’t always a bad thing, especially if I’m cold, as it means I don’t need to fetch a coat, but it’s not very convenient if I’m around lots of people…” she trailed off a little, as she realised this is one of those times when she was probably talking too much about silly things. It was lucky she shared a room with Doreen, as she never minded when Meggan rambled, as she spoke lots too, and Monkey Joe did of course. “Mister Grey-Summers said he was going to send you a bill? Oh, I’m sure he was just joking. He’s very nice really, and I don’t think he’d charge you because your powers can be silly and not behave…” the fey young girl felt a little awkward once more, as she realised maybe he was joking again and scuffed the toe of her shoe into the muddy path, looking down for a moment and swallowing, as she tried to think of something sensible to say. “I’m sure he broke lots of things when he was learning,” she said to be reassuring. “Maybe you could ask if there’s anything they wouldn’t mind breaking, that needs to be thrown away, like old furniture or something, oh! Maybe old cars? Like…scrap places where people take their cars and caravans and things? Or there’s always the Danger Room…” Meggan itched her nose and gave the older boy a smile, hoping that she was being helpful in her suggestions for him. Of course, she could always offer to pick him up, fly him high, then drop him, sort of like on the platform in the sea that time…Although he might not like that, really… |

Jason smiled as she once again kind of didn't get his joke. He wondered what she would find funny? He doubted that he would be able to change his whole comedic approach. Sarcasm was a total bust. Maybe slap stick? Jason liked to make people laugh, but he wasn't sure that hr was willing to stoop to Jim Carey levels. That was really only funny when he did it. "Oh the danger room? Yeah, that's one of my favorite parts about it. Maybe I like breaking stuff too much, but it's nice to just be able to let loose and not always worry about hurting people or things. It was a pain when I was home. I had to worry about it a lot more there. I'd like to go back and not have to worry about it." Talking about it got Jason to thinking about a question he had wondered ever since he met Meggan. "Say, where do you call home anyway? If you don't mind my asking." He hoped he wasn't being too personal. It wasn't a very intrusive question, really. Kind of a basic ice breaker. He had to bet that she was from a lot more interesting place than L.A. Which was saying something because L.A. is a pretty interesting. He was actually guessing that she not from America at all, but it will sure be interesting to find out. |

Listening attentively, Meggan nodded when he spoke about the Danger Room. It was how she felt about the whole school, really, as she could change at will and there was no one to say bad things to her for it, or look at her scared or ask her to try and not to…It was nice and safe and warm and all good things like that. “I do rather like the Danger Room but flying outside is so much more better, apart from the bugs, but they don’t bother me very much anymore, and I taught Melody how to not get them in your mouth but we still do sometimes…” she trailed off a little bit, playing with the edge of her sleeve. "Say, where do you call home anyway? If you don't mind my asking." “Oh…” Meggan hadn’t been expecting the question, but it wasn’t one she minded, just people sometimes looked at her a little bit funny when she told them, and she hoped Jason wouldn’t. “Well, the caravan was my home. We went to lots of different places, all over Britain though we’d stay in some places longer than others, especially in winter or sometimes in summer, so Da’ could do some work on farms and things, but mostly we’d travel with the rest of the clan.” Meggan didn’t use the word Romanichal or even the word gypsy, she felt she didn’t need to. To her, travelling around in a caravan was perfectly normal and not something that needed explaining. In truth, she missed it in some ways, always going to a different place and a new view from outside her little window. Of course, she hadn’t gone to school or had many friends or gone outside very much but travelling was in her blood, staying in the same place was still a little strange to her. “But, really, Xavier’s is my home now I suppose. My parents lost me, I haven’t been able to find them again, so I don’t suppose I can go back to somewhere I don’t know; they could be almost anywhere,” she gave him a slightly shy smile. “Do you think Xavier’s is like home too?” |

Jason listened to her explanation only partially understanding what she said. He knew the words caravan and clan. She had been traveling around England with her family, just kind of doing odd jobs. It sounded difficult, but also adventurous. Jason's own history seemed very boring by comparison. Of course, there was some of the more adventuresome moments, but that was all after he came to Xaviers. Before he came to Xavier's his life had mostly homework and hanging with friends. He had wondered where Meggan had gotten her strange ways. He had guessed that she hadn't exactly grown up in Kansas, but he couldn't have guessed that she had been traveling around England. It was sad to hear that she had been lost by her parents. He could imagine that would feel very alone. With all their resources of Xavier's couldn't they find them? He could see how it would be difficult to find them if they were jumping around, probably not using credit cards or anything else to track them with. It would take a team of investigators to track them down by standard footwork. "Yeah, I suppose. I mean, I really like it here. I always feel welcome here. I mean, I kind of have to stay here right now. But I've made it my home. There's good people here, trying to do something good. Now that I'm back, I would like to do something good too. Be an X man," Jason wasn't sure if what he was saying was well received, but talking to Meggan made him talk a little more literally than he usually did, "I mean, I guess everyone doesn't want to. It is a school, and I've thought about like going to college or something after. I just kind of feel like that would be the next logical step for me, not what I really want to do. Being a super hero is just more bad ass." Jason smiled nervously. He wondered what Meggan wanted to do, but would feel pushy if he asked her another question. |

The feeling Meggan was getting from Jason was one of slight confusion and so she made a sympathetic face, allowing her words to sink in. Apparently some people found the concept of gypsies very strange and not exactly normal to them, as odd as she found it living in a house that stayed in one place all the times when she had first moved to the school and in a way she was still getting used to America, especially when she left the school grounds, as it was like seeing stuff that was on the telly, only she could touch it and hear everything clearly…It was occasionally overwhelming, which was why she never went into the city very much, as all the emotions pressed down on her horribly. “Oh yes, the school is very welcoming, but some people thought I was a little strange at first because I’m a gypsy,” she nodded, giving him a little clue along with a smile. “People think some very funny things about gypsies and really, they’re not all true, well some of them might be but others are silly stories,” Meggan informed him in her soft, lilting voice, chewing on a lock of her hair that had fallen into her face. A slightly dreamy expression formed on her face as he talked about what he wanted to do. “I want to be an X-man too. Or X-girl, I’m not sure if it matters but…I like that I can belong here and use my powers and be happy. It’s nice and safe. Really, I’m not sure what else I could do, I’m not clever enough for most jobs or college or anything, and it’s annoying when I change shape randomly so a job outside would be very difficult…” “So, where is your other home then? Or your old home…” she asked, a little curious seeing as she had told him about hers. Breathing, she saw wisps of breath come out and she frowned. “Oh, it’s sort of cold though…I don’t feel it, I don’t really mind it you see, plus my skin changes so I don’t get too cold, like animals grow thicker fur in the winter…” |

A gypsy? Well that made a lot more sense now. Jason had sort of put together that she had traveled around, but the word gypsy brought forth all kinds of questions. As far as he knew, gypsy's came from stories. Granted, he had met/been saved by Pietro and had as a result spent a little time at the X factor building. So he was familiar with the concept of modern gypsies but... Wanda and Pietro were just so weird. They were nice, well not so much now that one was a terrorist, but definitely strange. Even stranger than Meggan, who was odd enough in her own right. It wasn't so much that they had different customs. Xavier's was a veritable melting pot of people, as was the city that they lived in. Well, that they lived near. Just that they seemed happy to kind of live in their own little world, just the two of them with their own customs and inside jokes. Perfectly content not to be really exposed to the people around them more than they had to. Whenever they were around other people they seemed less comfortable, like they were out of place. Meggan on the other hand seemed perfectly content wherever she was. And perfectly content sharing her thoughts with him. "Well, I'll be sure to ask you before I make any assumptions," he said, "Though I really don't know a lot about gypsies, so there aren't a lot of assumptions I can make." Jason wrapped his arms around himself to protect from the chill. It was winter, and unlike his conversation partner he had no protection from the cold. He had kept plenty warm while running, but now that he was stopped the weather was starting to take effect. Still, he wouldn't admit it. At least not for a little while. "I come from Los Angeles," he said with a certain amount of pride. Jason had always been proud of his city, "Of course, it's probably about sixty degrees there right now so I'm not exactly used to this weather. Getting the hang of it though. Maybe need to master the art of "hoodie" but still figuring it out. Must be nice to at least always fit in with the weather." He was getting pretty close to suggesting that they start moving back inside, or at least that he should but he could stand the temperature for a little bit longer. |

The fey girl gave him a smile and a thoughtful, sincere nod as he promised to ask and not make assumptions. That was very nice of him, although most people here were very nice and understanding, which meant she was quite happy to stay here for a bit, even if it was all crowded with thoughts and feelings as well as people at times. Hence she liked being outside, of course it was so much quieter and nicer and she didn’t have to stay inside all the time…Looking up at the sky for a moment, the blonde gave a contented little sigh, breathing in the fresh, clean air. Her nose felt a little chilly and almost damp, right on the tip and she scrunched it up, twitching it slightly before she lowered her head, her concentration span waning then refocusing on Jason. It was still funny to think she had actually saved somebody. “Oooh, Los Angeles? Really? I’ve seen it on telly, it’s where films and things come from, isn’t it? And they have all the stars on the pavements and famous people!” she gasped, excitedly. Meggan had been raised on television, it had been her sole companion through her lonely childhood, teaching her everything she had known before coming to Xavier’s, which as it turned out much to her dismay, wasn’t very much. “Is it always warm there then? I like warm weather but I like cold too. I like playing in snow, even if you go get soggy, it’s fun!” she nodded, her feet shifting on the muddy ground as she fidgeted and twitched in excitement at Jason’s revelation. “I don’t always feel the cold though; I can just grow fur if I get really cold! I do have a very nice green coat though, it’s velvety and soft and it has little flowers on the pockets, it’s pretty,” she thought of her nice coat that was for special occasions, neatly put away in her wardrobe up in her dorm room. The young gypsy was not a materialistic person, having lots of things just never came into her head and so her clothes were all old, well loved and well chosen, despite the fact she looked as if she lived in a thrift shop at times. Meggan eyed the tree again, then looked back at the other young mutant. “Were you going to try that again today?” |
