11:50pm June 2006 ______________________________________________________________________ Maxwell woke up to a crash. He sat upright in his bed straining to hear what was going on. “You’re never here!” he heard his mother scream.” That doesn’t give you the right to cheat on me with someone else!” his father yelled back. Maxwell was confused, he never heard his parents fight like this before. He quietly got out of bed, making sure not to make the floorboards squeak. He put his ear up against the door to hear well. “You can’t tell me what to do anymore; you barely even have time for Maxwell anymore!” His father laughed. “What, you mean that fag you say is my son? Are you even sure he’s my child?” he said in a harsh tone. Tears began to fill Maxwell’s eyes; he had tried to be a good son, even though he didn’t like football or basketball, he tried out for them anyway, just to make his father happy. His sadness was then replaced with anger. He then heard a slap, and his mother tell his father to shut his mouth. Maxwell cracked open his door a bit so he could see what was going on. He then watched in horror as his father grabbed his mother by the hair. His mother scratched at him and clawed to get free but to no avail, and he dragged her over to a desk. While holding her by here hair, he opened a drawer and pulled out his .38 pistol. “So, you wanna cheat on me eh?” he father said. Maxwell opened the door a little wider straining to see more. His mother was whimpering now. He threw her against the stairs and cocked the gun. When she tired to get up, she noticed Maxwell watching through his door, tears stained her eyes. Maxwell swung the door open, “Mom! Look out!” He yelled, and as his mother turned, she turned point blank into the barrel of the gun. His father pulled the trigger and the sound of the shot triggered something within Maxwell. He ran down the flight of stairs in anger, and lunged at his father. As he did, his eyes flashed reddish-pink. Once contact was made, a form of energy that looked like electricity but didn't cause electric shock the same color as his eyes covered him and his father. His fathers eyes fully dilated and he slump to the ground motionless. Maxwell stood, and his body lifted off of the ground. He screamed in panic. He turned towards his mother, a bullet wound in her forehead, her brain and blood splattered across the stairs. He couldn’t breathe or do anything and his body fell back to earth. He moved over to her, and knelt down beside her, he couldn’t touch her because he feared what had happened to his father would happen to her. It really didn’t matter because she was already dead anyway. He picked up the gun his father shot his mother with and walked over to him, he needed to get rid of this filling anger that was in him. He shot a round into his fathers head. This didn’t make the anger go away, but it made him feel a little better. He then heard sirens in the distance and ran. He moved through the kitchen to the backyard, and heard the next door neighbor’s dog bark. The cops had pulled up to the house and had broken through the front door. The neighbors must have called them. Maxwell reached the fence, and began to climb it, that’s when he heard a cop tell him to stop where he was and turn around. Maxwell dropped from the fence and turned, he had kept his head down. The cop told him to put his hands behind his head. All this time, Maxwell was contemplating about his new found abilities. He looked up, and as the cop walked over Maxwell took a deep breath and took a leap into the air. His body became weightless and he glided away from the cop, who just stood there stunned. *Still adding |

Power Boosts

10:40pm Sometime in October, 2008 That was two years ago and far in the back of Maxwell’s mind. So much had changed for him, he found out more about his abilities, and that he only could fly and have super strength for a limited time before he would have to boost someone again to get them back. He also found out that his abilities weren’t everything, and he began working out more, so he could not only have his powers, but he would be able to use his body, gymnast and fighting skills to get by. He had also become sort a thief, starting off small so he wouldn’t get caught and over time he built up enough practice and courage to do bigger thefts. Tonight though, he was at the edge of a pool looking at the moon and reflection in the water. He had so much anger built up in him still two years later, and he felt like he was about to explode. He dove into the water, and let the cool refreshing liquid envelope him. He felt calm beneath the water, all the noise from the above world was nullified and he wasn’t able to hear any of it. He tried to stay under for a little longer, but his body willed him to the surface due to his need of oxygen. He breathed in a big gulp of air letting the wind caress his face; it was both cold yet relaxing. He floated on his back; he was safe to be here during the night because this pool didn’t have any cameras around to catch him. He looked up at the moon, it was a full moon this night and it all seemed intoxicating. Maxwell’s attention then was directed from the moon to a shadow in the corner of the pool. He hadn’t noticed it earlier, and he wasn’t able to see anything because the pool didn’t have any lights. He moved underwater to see what the shadow was. Even underwater he wasn’t able to see well, but he could barely make out a human shape in that area. When he shifted his body to face it, the shadow moved, Maxwell waited to see if they made any movement. The shadow torpedoed towards Maxwell, and when it got close Maxwell shot out of the water into the air. Te shadow stopped and leapt out of the water, taking the form of a girl. She caught Maxwell off guard and they both plummeted into the cement around the pool with a hard smack. She landed on top of him with one of her hands around his throat, the other she held above him, ready to pummel him. “Who are you?!” she demanded. Maxwell’s eyes flashed and he lifted off of the ground and spun around in the air making it so she was under him, and he brought them both back to earth, “ Who are you?!” he asked, putting his hand around her throat, he could snap her neck anytime he wanted but he wanted to have a little fun first. “My name is Mende.” She told him. “I mean you no harm, I just thought you were someone else, can you release me?” She asked. He smiled, “How can I trust that you won’t pounce?” he asked her back. “You can’t” she told him smirking. He liked her, she had spunk. He got off of her, and she stood up. “What are you doing here, I haven’t seen you around.” She moved back, a little cautious. Maxwell moved over to the water, “I came to swim, and I’m not from around here. What about you?” He told her, she puffed up her chest, “This is my territory, I used to come here all the time with my old friends, when I was normal.” She told him. Maxwell looked at her, she talked like she was the boss of things but she missed her life when she was human. “Oh, well that’s nice to know.” He said, He then talked with her for a while, but didn’t get too close, she was a good girl, and he found that she lost her parents on a cruise, when it began to sink .That’s when her abilities manifested and she survived. After a while of talking, he got up, “Well, I better get going.” He really didn’t have a better excuse, he didn’t care, this girl was starting to get to him, and even though he wanted to not be alone he didn’t want his anger to leave him. It was contradicting but he didn’t care. Her eyes pleaded with him to stay, but he knew he couldn’t. He began to walk away, “Please wait, I need you!” She shouted after him. He turned and frowned, “I’m sorry I don’t get attached.” She shook her head, “No, remember when I said I thought you were someone else, well my ex boyfriend has been looking for me and I’m afraid he’s finally found me, I’ll pay you to protect me.” That made Maxwell’s eyes open, “Well, if you’re going to pay me…” He said. That’s when something moved across the pool, Mende ran into the shadows, and tried to hide. Wow, I guess this is going to be quick, didn’t even have to wait or look for him. Maxwell thought to himself. The shadow stopped in front of him and Maxwell noticed that he was taller than he’d expected. “Who are you?” The man asked. “Wow, really I’m getting tired of the who are you crap.” Maxwell replied. The man attacked him, and Maxwell’s eyes flashed once more. Maxwell moved out of the way and grabbed the man by his collar. “Gonna end this quick.” He said and tossed the man into the ground. He stood over him. “The little lady doesn’t want you, take a hint.” He told him, and that’s when the man kicked him in the chin. The impact sent Maxwell into a wall, and it dislocated his jaw. I really didn’t want to hurt him that bad. He thought and as the man charged him, Maxwell shoved his hand into the man’s chest. A startled look crossed his face as Maxwell pulled out of him, and he dropped down to the ground dead. Mende crawled out from the shadow she was hiding in. “ Well, where’s the money,” Maxwell asked. |
