Time: 11:47pm Date: 12 Feb 10 (Friday Nigth to Monday Morning-Valentines Day Weekend) Destination: Las Vegas, Nevada Bobby and Angelica had been planning the trip for a while now, since the twentieth. Planning a trip to Vegas for Valentines Day was a very big deal. Arrangements had all been made and everything was set. Joining them on the trip was another couple around the mansion. Kyle and Delia. They were cool enough but he could have sworn that the two were either broken up or something. He had no idea where he got that impression from but it surprised him to hear that they would go with the two younger mutants. Still Bobby was very excited for this trip. It had taken a lot of discussion between the two, such as if they should just get one bed or two, what they would do there, how long would they be there, and so on and so forth. When the ink was dry he had a surprise in store for Angelica. It took him a while to earn up the money he needed but somehow he pulled through. Not to mention they would have to eat cheap buffet food, which was the best in Vegas, for the whole trip. He had no clue how much she knew but through careful questioning and certain phrases that would throw her off his trail he wanted so much for her to be shocked at his surprise. Bobby had planned and got two tickets to a show Angelica would want to see. With careful, casual questions like ‘Oh man wouldn’t it be cool if we went and one of the shows? Which would you wanna see?’ Of course he was sneaky in planning it, making sure she didn’t see the tickets as they went to one another’s place to help pack. The Iceman didn’t know what Delia and Kyle were going to do, but their spectacular three day V-Day trip was going to be the shit. Plane tickets were pretty cheap, which was very good. Sure they all could have taken the jet or ask X-Factor to hitch them a ride but they had agreed that it would be nice to feel a little normal, even if they weren’t. Which meant a regular Ole plane trip. Bobby let Angelica take the window seat because it was the best, and she deserved the best. The flight was relatively booked, the couples got to sit next to one another but both were separated by a row or two. Bobby sat in the middle, in between Angie and some other guy. He caught the other guy looking at Angelica as he chose his seat. He decided not to pull a jealous boyfriend move, instead he planted a kiss on the red head and relaxed in his seat. Having one of the most satisfied smiles on his face. The plane ride was really really long. Once they had landed the icy mutant did a celebration dance complete with a twirling and dipping of Angelica. The rental place easily handed over the car they reserved. The drive from the airport to the hotel was pretty quick. All throughout the drive though the iced mutant did sing, with an Elvis impersonation, Viva Las Vegas. It was even better when Angelica joined him. He didn't know if they were annoying the other couple, but once the car was stopped in front of the hotel he had to kiss her. All checked in and holding the room keys in hand as it turned out Delia and Kyle's room was across the hall and a few rooms down from Bobby and Angelica. So they were close, but not too close. They all dropped off their belongings in their rooms, and of course check out the rooms see if everything was good to go. After doing so they all went down to a late night buffet for a bit of late dinner. It had been a long day and at least Bobby was hungry. After the first run through the buffet, standing next to Angelica all through the line, they took a seat and started to eat. “Oh my god this is awesome food. Well I don't know about you guys... but I am very excited to be here right now.” He smiled a big, wide grin and nodded while nomming on some shrimp. |

When Bobby had first mentioned his idea for a big romantic vacation getaway Angelica had found herself slightly taken aback. The idea of a full on trip was so grand and extravagant she wondered if he wasn't putting himself out too much for her. She didn't need him to prove himself with big romantic gestures or lavish trips. Just being with him was enough for her. After he had assured her he wasn't breaking the bank on the holiday she jumped on the bandwagon and everyday leading up to the trip she found herself growing more and more excited. Vegas would be like a whole new world, an environment completely different from anything she had experienced in and around New York or the places she had visited since joining X-Factors ranks. She was going on holiday with her honey, what could be more ideal then that. The plane ride across country had been pleasant enough. Her and Bobby had been joined on the trip by a few cohorts of his from the mansion, Kyle Van Leerson someone she remembered from mutual time when they had both been students at Xaviers, and Delia Colins someone she wasn't familiar with at all. The other couple had been nothing but polite and friendly since they had left on the vacation, but Angelica couldn't helped but wonder about the nature of their relationship. Though they seemed together they seemed to be lacking a certain joy that she had found in her relationship with Bobby. Maybe they weren't as open to expressing their happiness as she was? Angelica was proud about everything she and Bobby had, in this relationship she had found a since of accomplishment and maybe she had become one of those people who went around bubbly because they had found someone who made them very happy but she was okay with that. because Bobby did make her happy, and shouldn't something like that be celebrated? As the plane decended into the Las Vegas Airport, Angelica clutched Bobby's arm in excitement as she stared out the plane window into the lighted desert Oasis. The town looked like a neon paradise, and to her boyfriend she pointed out all the various sights she saw from the air, like a child witnessing Christmas for the first time. Soon though bags were gathered, rooms were occupied and all thoughts or mentions of jet lag were dropped. Sin City called and the two couples heard its Siren song. What the weekend would all bring was anyones guess, but Angelica imagined it would be a trip to remember. Entering one of the citys numerous well received dining rooms they settled down for a bite before heading off to whatever ends Vegas would take them. There was a world of stuff to do in this town, and she wanted to see and experience it all with Bobby before the weekend was done. Bobby attested to how great the food was and she smiled at him. Leave it to a guy to attest to the enjoyment of his stomach before anything else. She heard Kyle chime up as well in agreement and she rolled her eyes at Delia, as if to say "Men what can you do with them",before she nudged Bobby playfully with her elbow. "Don't fill up to quickly. I don't want to spend this weekend nursing you through a buffet induced tummy ache" and she playfully dug her finger into his side to emphasis some point. "What about you two?" she asked the X-Men couple that had accompanied them, "Whats your plans for the weekend, a little gambling a little romance. I know this man of mine has his eyes on the slot machines if he can sneak away from me long enough to get to them, but this is Vegas. Vegas! You know they say what happens here stays here. I think it gives us all a free pass to do whatever we want" Angelica raised her glass of diet soda in celebration of a mock toast. "So here's to a weekend of wonder. May anything and everything happen!" |

Matter Transformation

Delia Colins in Las Vegas, it was something of a cliche at this point. The woman had been there many times before, flown out and treated as royalty, given everything she wanted from whichever of the constant flow of well to do aristocrats that had tried so hard to court her in her younger days. She knew the ins and outs of the city. She was aware of all the hot spots, where the best parties were, and where they would be assured to get into the most trouble. If it had been that sort of vacation, Delia would have been able to write out a schedule that would have packed every minute of their time there. This however, was not that sort of vacation. This was a completely different animal and something that had Delia way out of her comfort zone. Since deciding to give her relationship with Kyle a real shot, the matter witch had found herself in unfamiliar territory. She had never, even through the parade of men that marched through her life during her time as a socialite, been in an honest to goodness adult relationship. The idea of having someone to lean on, someone to depend on and to take responsibility for, while enticing, was also a little daunting for the woman. To say it hadn't been a series of trail and error would be a lie. Both of them seemed to be learning what it meant to actually be with each other, free of the spinning backdrop of New York or the pulling of self imposed heartbreak. As if teenagers, they danced shyly around each other, living as though the physical intimacy their relationship had once been built solely on had never existed, as though each of them were brand new. In a way, she felt they were. She had never allowed anyone in, not since the sickness, not since the death. Now that she finally had opened herself up to another person, while freeing, a part of her also felt exposed and vulnerable. She wondered to herself if that's what relationships were about. This trip would be a test. It would show the world once and for all that Delia and Kyle were either the star crossed lovers that their recent discussions had spurred them to believe or that they were emotionally stunted brats trying desperately to be fulfilled by playing dress up in big boy's clothes. The ridiculously chirpy couple that had become their traveling companions weren't helping anything. Delia remembered something of Bobby from her original stint at the Institute, though that may have been more fabricated memory than actual reality. The other one, Angelica, was a bright and sunny mystery to the golden eyed woman. Their body language stood as mirror opposite to Kyle and Delia's. The pair were loving and playfully touched, seemingly free of the personal anxieties that plagued the former socialite. Halfway through the flight, the earnest jealousy that she had been feeling toward the affectionate pair turned into a quiet but seething frustration. She simply couldn't believe people like this existed outside of the covers of farming magazines. She looked over at Kyle, weighing whether or not to grab his hand in an uncharacteristically playful move. She decided against it, such things were not her style, even now in this new relationship she just couldn't bring herself to be that type of person. The flight finally ended, and while she stretched and moaned Joanie and Chachi seemed chipper as ever. Lord, even through golden eyes, she didn't see the world as happily as this pair. She looked silently but intently at the pair, wondering if some sort of anti depressant was the culprit behind their attitudes. Angelica was almost livid with excitement as the plane touched down, joking and smiling at the men's desire for food. She was almost a characiture of a person as she stated an extremely excited toast. "So here's to a weekend of wonder. May anything and everything happen!" "Absolutely," Delia said, plastering on a huge smile and displaying a tone much more chipper than anything she would ever use in daily life. She then leaned over to Kyle, whispering, "I think she's toasting us with Diet Rite." |

There was a huge difference in the theoretic of being in a relationship and actually being in one he was realizing. He and Delia had spent so long engaged in a continus back and forth of hurting each other and of one trying to get leverage over the other that when the time finally came for them to commit he thought foolishly that that as they say would be that. It was a blind optimism that normally Kyle never carried, but he had imagined it would be no harder to be together then it had been to be apart. He was crazy about her that was for certain, but all the baggage they had been carrying: the issues of trust, the failure to actually sit down and communicate, those things didn't just go away because you said you wanted to be together. Rather they stuck around, large elephants in a room that you tip toed around because you were so afraid to upset the delicate balance of how things were. He believed he could love her enough for the both of them, and in time her issues of trust and barriers against letting him in would fall and they could be really happy. It was blinded optimism like this that had created such stumbling blocks for the young X-man in the past. Kyle never truly believed the fault lay with him. Rather he took up the belief that he needed only to be patient and things would work out how he wanted. Wasn't that what a relationship was, a matter of compromises and contentions? When Bobby Drake had dropped the idea about taking their respective girlfriends on a trip to Las Vegas for the Valentine's holiday, Kyle found himself slightly hesitant against the idea. Vegas was not known as Sin City for nothing, and the wilder aspect of their relationship; the part usually soaked in liquor well that never had been a problem for the pair. Their issues had always been in the schematics of things, the rules of boundaries and trust and all the things that made a relationship last and not burn out in a passion fueled fit. In the end the lure of a weekend free of responsibility was too much to resist and with a sight bit of plying he convinced Delia to accompany him along with Bobby and his X-Factor girlfriend on the vacation. The plane ride and resulting arrival to the metropolises oasis was pleasant enough. Bobby and Angelica seemed deeply happy together. There was a certain sweetness to the couple that was almost down right insulting. He and Delia had never had that. Somehow along the journey they must have skipped that part. Not that he wasn't happy he cared and loved her very much, but there had never been a sense of innocence in their relationship. Everything they had done in their time together had often felt like a battle, two pirates struggling against each other for higher ground. To see a couple free of that drama was a deep surprise that spurred not a sense of jealousy in Kyle but a sense of awe. He wanted to ask them, " Is it always that simple" but he stilled his tongue choosing to hold Delia's hand instead. He knew inspite of the hardships he would rather have her and all the complications that came with, then any "simple" relationship life could throw at him. Soon though the lure of Vegas chased all such overworked thoughts from his mind. He was in one of the wildest cities in the world with the girl he cared about most. He could sweat the worry back on the plane ride home for now he just wanted to have fun. It had been a stress filled last couple of months, and he needed to let loose. He imagined Delia needed the same. Gathered at a table with the other couple talk flowed easily enough. Angelica joked and teased Bobby who seemed over the moon with her. The two had an ease about them that stung that same sense of wonder from him again. Instinctively he pulled in closer to Delia, as if he could make up for the lack of overtired romanticism by just being physically closer. When Angelica made her toast, Kyle laughed along and smiled. While Delia made a comment about the toast that was only loud enough for him to here. As casually as he could he made a move to talk just into her ear. "Play nice for the kiddies, sweetie" he said his voice a measure of tenderness and he kissed her cheek. He loved her humor, even her biting comments. It was one of her many weapons that he had grown accustomed to. She was here with him, with friends that were more his then hers and she was trying. He couldn't ask any more then that and he loved her all the more for it. Taking her hand he stood up from the table. "Well you two, Don't take this the wrong way, but we'll see you around. Delia and all are going off on our own adventure and we'll catch up with you when we can. Have fun kids." He gave Angelica and friendly smile, Bobby a sly wink in the code that was between guys and brothers, and with Delia by his side he paid the check and left the hotel. Sin City called and with Delia as his cohort he planned on answering. |

Angelica watched as the two X-men that had joined her and Bobby on the vacation made their goodbyes and headed to leave. She wished them a lot of Vegas luck and then turned back to Bobby. "Okay. Frosty it's just me and you now and a whole city out there calling. Just what did you have in mind?" What the Iceman had in mind was apparently a lot. Tickets to a hit Vegas show, a tour of the city, a little gambling, and a lot of adventure. Bobby had put a lot of effort and care into the planning of their itinerary and it showed in every exciting thing that presented itself to her. it seemed in some silly way he had set the city to unfold just for them, and for all the excitement and thrills it offered he had still managed to keep things deeply romantic. He never lost sight about what the holiday was about, and though Las Vegas was probably a town more attuned to partying then romance the iceman never let his sway drift from her to the town. He made her feel as if the lights of Vegas didn't shine out to him as bright as she did, and she loved him. Like the sensation of hitting a huge jackpot it had came ringing into her mind, she was in love with Bobby. Maybe she had been for a while and had just been to big a coward to admit it? Maybe she head been afraid to admit that to herself because she knew once she crossed that final threshold there would be no going back. She would be completely and irrevocably in this with him, and that kind of commitment was scary. They both lived such dangerous lives, filled with tons of various and continuous threats and the job mattered so much to the both of them she wondered how they could juggle the both. It was a scary realization to know you had found someone who mattered more to you then you did to yourself. As the walked along the neon circus that was sin city on their second night almost as if driven by a unknown force the red haired microwave generating mutant threw her arms around her boyfriend and kissed him in the middle of the crowded street. "I love you" she told him as earnestly as she could. Maybe this wasn't the most perfect of settings, but his reveal to her of his love hadn't been either. What did it matter where they had said it, the point was they had, and she knew they were the better for it. She forgot for a moment about war torn countries, and destroyed subways, and just lived in the moment. As they returned to their hotel for the night she took his hand as they walked through the door. She couldn't imagine a more perfect night then this had been, and she couldn't imagine spending the rest of the night with anyone other then him. |

After the other two left and Angie asked what he had in mind for the city of lights and sin. He made sure to not get side tracked by either of those qualities from Angie. The lights didn't out shine her because she was the unlimited power source and gave the twinkling lights their beauty. Corny yes, but Bobby felt it with all his heart. The whole trip so far was just everything he wanted it to be. They were walking hand in hand down the strip nearing the Bellagio hotel and the water show was coming up quickly. But it was just more effects for Vegas. He would glance at the red head every now and then and just take in every single inch of who she was. Bobby was about to point out that the water show was going to start. The music started to swell. But the music as well as his words were quickly cut off by Angelica who threw her arms around him and kissed him. Saying with sincerity, that she loved him. It took him a moment to register, or to let it sink in. He brought his hand up to hold the sides of her face, and kissed her back intensely. Those three little words were the sweetest he had ever heard and could ever hear. At that moment there was nothing else. Not all the crap in the world, or even the wonder. The wonder in the world was who was in front of him, the redheaded mutant. If they had, they would have noticed the song playing behind them, the one that the water was dancing to at the Bellagio, was Yellow by Coldplay. He kept kissing her in the middle of the street as the song played and the water effects danced on. Separating from her he whispered back, “And I love you. So much.” He looked into her eyes and smiled. It wasn't long afterwards that the two went back to the hotel. Hours later they were laying in bed Angelica was fast asleep, the sheets of the bed covering her up. Bobby looked on at her as she slept, she looked so peaceful and beautiful. He didn't for one moment regret the decision that was made. He didn't want Angie to think that he was pressured into sharing such an intimate choice, but he couldn't think of any more of a perfect moment then the trip. Bobby leaned in and gently kissed her forehead. He laid down on the bed still looking at her, planning to fall asleep with her being the last thing he saw before he woke up the next morning. |
