Maxwell was getting ready. Today was the Valentines Day dance, and he was really ready to go and socialize with the students around the school. He hadn’t really been social with anyone here and he had to change that because he wanted to become a better person. He smiled as he looked through his closet, he was wondering what to wear, he began tossing clothes onto his bed, and nothing looked good at the moment. Since it was Valentines Day pink would be good. He had gone through about a hundred pairs of clothes before he found what he finally liked. What he ended up liking was a hot pink vest and some white jeans and top it off wore white Vans for his shoes. He changed and looked at himself in the mirror, perfect. He sprayed some Axe on, and walked out of his dorm room.

Maxwell walked through the doors of the ballroom, the ballroom was really big, decorations were everywhere, and it seemed like it a really awesome event and it amazed Maxwell on how this mansion could hold so many rooms, let alone a ballroom, many people were here and it would seem like the Valentines dance had been a success. The music boomed through him. People were dancing all around him, and he just began to sway to music as he looked for the snack table. He looked around, some familiar faces that he saw from around the mansion were here, and many of faces that he didn’t know. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. He hadn’t come to the dance with a date or anything, but that truly didn’t matter. He thought back on every other Valentines Day he had, some he was all alone, and others, he barely remembered because he really didn’t try to remember when he lived with his parents. He shook his head, why was he totally thinking of things that would only bring him down, he pushed all of that to the back of his mind, and focused on the party.

He looked down and noticed that his bowtie was turned to the wrong side. He fixed it and blushed; he was a total dork sometimes. He then spotted the snack table, and since he hadn’t ate yet, his stomach growled. He had to get something in his system before anyone heard him. He smiled as he passed through people and headed over to the snack table. On the snack table, Maxwell spotted a plethora of assortments, from cookies and cupcakes, to sandwiches and sodas. There were heart shaped cookies, strawberry soda and many other snacks Valentines Day based, even the sandwiches were shaped like hearts. He picked up a drink and a sandwich, turned and surveyed the scene.

Hovering near the snack table, Jack kept a watchful eye on the students, although he wasn't really sure what he was supposed to be looking for. He tended to shy away from events like these altogether, but he had been asked to chaperone. If there was one thing for sure, Jack had not been to a dance since high school, and he had just been an underclassman. Although he could recall vividly one of his more religious teachers insisted to flit about in a white cape, shrieking for room for the 'holy spirit' as she wriggled between students that danced too close. Running around in a sheet wasn't really Jack's sort of thing, as he was rather content to let them have their fun. He had been their age once, and no doubt he would have thumbed his nose at chaperones.

At least he could remember to dress appropriately, wearing a grey polo, and a pair of khakis with some loafers, which was a nice change from his everyday t-shirts and cotton pants. Jack could clean up nice if he so desired, and although he was clean-shaven his blonde hair had grown right out again from being shorn the month before. The institute had been a positive influence on him so far, and he wasn't looking as lean and hollowed out thanks to eating more and weight lifting.

Around him, the dance went on, students paired off dancing to the music and shouting conversations over the noise. This was one of the reasons Jack remained near the snack table and away from the speakers so to spare his ears as best as he could. The food on the table was tempting on an extreme level, and he alway forgot how much snacks were associated with social events. It was easy to avoid sugar and things toxic for his body in the forest, but not so much with a school full of teenagers.

He watched as a dark-haired student approached--Matt maybe? he was horrible with names--and got some snacks from the table. Feeling rather awkward standing close silently, Jack nodded to him. "Having fun?" His voice was almost drowned out by the commotion of music and other voices. Jack didn't understand the appeal of bringing your boyfriend or girlfriend to one of these things, they were so loud and noisy. But it wasn't as though Jack had room to talk, as he would have been too reticent to ask someone anyway.

Wow.

It had been a while since Kam had last attended any type of social dance. The moments she had at her old school were so far away but she could still remember them as if they had reoccurred yesterday. During her time at her old school there were always a flock of her best friends that surrounded her. No matter where she was, they were there. No matter what happened, they were there. Especially when she needed them the most...

A sigh escaped her lips as she stepped into her future and ignored the past. As she made her way into the ballroom she couldn't help but to stop in her tracks just to take in the new scenery. Was it her or did she feel like she walked into a High School Musical number, which of course, made her more than excited. The decorations, the couples, the lighting... All of it was just so beautiful. It smelled as if love was backstroking in the air, it was either love or the fact that she could smell her Victoria Secret's perfume on her body.

She couldn't help but to look at how amazing everyone looked, Kamrynn even did a double take on her own look but realized she was just fine. It had taken her just a few hours to get her hair curled and pinned up perfectly. Finding the perfect dress wasn't too hard either, since she already had a red short dress with straps. Kam had also decided to wear black leggings underneath and one of her favorite pairs of heels that had multiple cute bows on them. Of course, she always had her makeup done so today wasn't any different.

Continuing her way through the ballroom, she had spotted the snack and also two certain people near it. One had been a staff that Kamrynn remembered during the day that she met Jason. That day had been the weirdest day that Kam experienced so far, it kind of scared of what else could happen now that she was a mutant. The other person was Maxwell, a face that she really couldn't forget. He had also helped with the Halloween festivities along with a few other students. Kam never really had the privileged of actually getting to know him. It didn't surprise her really, she wasn't friends with a lot of people anyway. Maybe that could change.

Stopping at the table Kam couldn't help but to smile at the two as she waved.

"Hey fellas! You two look great."

Outfit Here!

Kel had volunteered to help chaperon the dance. Valentines wasn't really one of his favorite holidays anymore. He wasn't a romantic. He shied away from the mere idea of relationships, for one thing. But he could see how a lot of people got into the spirit of things, and it could be fun if it wasn't taken serious. So there he was. In a black and grey pin-striped, three-piece suit (because, face it, they were neat), a matching fedora, and without one of those strangling menaces called ties. He wouldn't wear one of those again if his life depended on it. His hair was left long this morning, almost reaching his shoulders, rather than having his roommate trim it like he did on a daily basis.

A lot of people had dressed to impress today, or show off their unique styles. It was as interesting as anything else to keep track of. He wasn't entirely sure if his handful of close friends would join him, but he wouldn't be all mopey if they didn't. He probably wouldn't have attended if he wasn't going as a chaperon.

And then... his hand went to his face. Good grief. What was that girl wearing? Like, with ever step, she was flashing her underwear. Skirts that short were more belts than anything. A sigh, and he walked over. Composure. Remain composure. "Miss... Jordan, was it? Turn around, go back to your room and put on, you know, some actual clothing on. This is a school dance, y'know." Seriously. She was like, what, fourteen? What was with kids these days?

Shaking his head, he went to get a drink. Ew. Strawberry soda? Why couldn't they have been semi-normal and gotten cherry? Cherry was good. Oh. There was some cherry. Yay. Moderately pleased, he snagged the drink and was about to go on his way when he saw Jack with two of the students. He'd helped them out with the Halloween event, so he at least knew their names and faces. "Hey guys," he said with a bright smile sent in their direction. "Those are cute," he added to Kam, about the heels with the little bows on them. However, there were two conflicting scents in the air. Lucky for Kel that his sense of smell was just that of a human with a sensitive nose. He felt like he might sneeze for a few moments, but then that sensation faded. “Well… have fun,” he said, snagging a red frosted chocolate cupcake to go along with his cherry soda and moving on. While he would have waited around to start up a conversation, he didn’t think it’d be all that great to block the snack table..

Maybe later.

In the list of totally useless holidays Kevin imagined Valentine's day to be somewhere near the top. Here was commercialism and corporate greed wrapped in frilly pink ribbons and lace. How else was someone to describe a holiday that existed solely to give the bleeding hearts and over sentimental people of this world a chance to act like sentimental schmucks while simultaneously pouring out there wallets on candy, or jewelry or gifts, all under the guise that you were showing how much you loved someone. When did you need a gold card to tell someone how you felt? Hershey and Hallmark, that was what this stupid holiday was all about.

Three times that evening he had turned around in the hallway on the way to the party and headed back to his room. This was not his sort of thing. Kevin didn't do crowds, and he defiantly didn't do parties, especially over done fancied up events like this, celebrating a holiday that he believed should be stricken from the books. What was next an Arbor Day get together? He could see the slogans now," Show you care, by a tree a tennis bracelet!" If there was a way for the world to bleed something to death and dress it up past all recognition it would find a way to do it. In the end with resigned indignation and dragging feet he forced himself to go.

It had been made clear to him in no unspecific terms he had to start socializing more. Kevin Ford as a lone island wasn't cutting it, and little by little the flags were going up. By hoping to avoid too much attention he had drawn himself into the middle of it. Apparently everyone did notice someone who didn't make reasonable efforts to associate with the rest of them. Who'd have thought?

Standing against a corner, his back pressed to the wall, gloves and jacket securely on, Kevin sipped punch from a stryrofoam cup and watched the scene that was the youth of Xavier's mingle and greet, acting as if they all hadn't just seen each other an hour before this overdone shindig. God, teenagers were pathetic, he thought as he checked the entrance to the school's ball room again waiting to see when Laurie Collins arrived.

If he was going to to be made suffer through this night of bland punch, bad pop music, and a throng of silly children acting like belles of the ball he at least ha d the comfort of knowing she'd be there to keep him company. It almost made the whole thing bearable, key word being almost.

It was a true fact that Sooraya had never heard of Valentines day before she had arrived in to America, nor had she ever heard of the idea to have a big party for the 14th to celebrate. For her, it all seemed a bit perplexing, about how much effort went into all the planning and decorations for one day simply to remember and celebrate love, using the name of an ancient Christian saint to do so. The poor girl had been even more confused when in class somebody had asked her if she had received any cards for Valentines day. Sooraya knew that in America things were different but people sending sometimes anonymous cards of affection seemed slightly odd to her. When she had lived in her village, no-one had dared asked for her families permission, as the village protector, she wasn’t’ seen as a potential wife, her powers making her far too important to spend her time at home when she had to watch the town, making sure that no ill befell anyone there.

For three years she had maintained that permission, since she was young and not once had she thought about giving it up for love, In her eyes, Allah had chosen her for this and if he wanted her to fall for a man, he would have given her a sig. Sure, she had not been entirely faithful (and she had shown her naked body to many people who she had never met or close school friends and used her first kiss in life in a attempted murder but that wasn’t entirely her fault) but she had tried so hard in the last few months to try and regain some semblance of her pre-Apocalypse life.

But when she entered into the transformed hall, Sooraya had to admit that she was taken aback at the work involved. The whole room was changed into a much more beautiful sight, the slightly tacky decorations hanging from the sides while music played gently in the back ground. Looking around, she recognised most of the people seemed to be gravitating towards the food to eat. The iced cakes, savoury sandwiches and sugary snacks were all laid out, just ready to be devoured, next to a few small plastic cups for the punch (hopefully non-alcoholic, Sooraya didn’t think that alcohol should be allowed in a school building at all, not even for the teachers). But all of her fellow students and the few teachers dotted around seemed to be well dressed up in fine outfits. Deciding to play along, Sooraya had ditched her regular black niqab for one of a pale cream colour, one that she normally wore to ceremonies such as weddings and birthdays at home. It was her second finest outfit that she owned, a thin gold trim on the edge of the veil framing her sleeves and eyes.

“Hello everyone, are you enjoying the evening?” she asked as she picked up one of the cupcakes, a small pink heart dotted onto the top of the baked surface. Holding it in her hand, she examined it slightly, marvelling at the handiwork and care of it. Maybe she would take some back to her room later, saving them for herself as a late night snack, maybe something to have after her latter prayer that evening. After she put away her niqab thought, she didn’t want to drop any crumbs on it to possibly besmirch it. Sure, a spill or a stain could be cleaned off but the muslim mutant didn’t want to risk it if she had any kind of a choice.

Pff, Valentine's Day. The whole thing put her in an unreasonably bitter state of mind. She had never attended a Valentine's Day dance in her life. As a normal girl she had no reason to, and as a mutant she didn't trust her feelings or anyone else's. She'd completely closed herself off from the celebration, slamming the door in Saint Valentine's face with ease. That was all changing this year however. Despite the fact that she was still bitter about the ridiculous lovey-dovey mushy heap of shit that occurred today - only due to her lack of someone to be lovey-dovey and mushy with, but she wasn't about to admit that - she was going to attend the stupid ball. Why? Well, because she and her friend had agreed to go and hate every minute of it together.

As she adjusted her appearance in her room, she tried not to think about who was going to be there tonight. She knew Kevin was, and if she had it her way she'd be latching onto his hand and not moving all night. But one; she could die. Two; she could die. And three; she knew eventually she would have to see Tommy. Which would be awkward as all hell. The last time she had seen him she had very nearly been on cloud nine, until they were so rudely interrupted and the proverbial love in the air had been swept away, replaced with suffocatingly tense air. She hadn't spoken to him since he'd zoomed away and left her in the meat locker, and she really wasn't looking forward to seeing him tonight.

However, she was a woman after all. And therefore, in order to make Tommy kick himself in the shin repeatedly for being such a bonehead, she was dressing herself to the nines tonight. Or at least, as dressy as Laurie Collins could get. She was wearing a small little dark red number with a low, scooped neckline, though on her tiny frame it wasn't as revealing as it would be on some others. The dress sparkled, but not so much that it was obscene to look at - classy, or Laurie could never in a million years have purchased it. Her hair was down and meticulously curled softly, and on her face was little, but just enough makeup to be seen as tasteful. On her feet were a pair of deep red heels, sparkle-free. They weren't extremely tall, because Laurie could hardly walk on her own flat feet, let alone in heels - but she had to simply because both the occasion and the dress called for it. As a finishing touch, she had a small pair of white princess gloves on, cut off at the top of the wrist, finished off with lace lining.

She didn't look like herself as she stared in the mirror, and it put her off just a bit. She never got dressed up for anything in her life, and this would be the first time she put effort into her appearance. She screwed up her face in distaste. Sure, she looked nice, but jeans and a sweater were much, much more comfortable than this thing. She grumbled at how far women needed to go to impress men, when all they had to do was spray some cologne, drag a comb through their hair and throw on a tux. Grumble grumble, indeed.

Finally, Laurie exhaled strongly and slumped over. Just a few hours of this, then you can return to your room and throw on your jammies, she reassured herself, before stepping out of her room and heading towards the frilly pink ball room of doom.

As she entered, she stared around at the ridiculous amount of pink and red lace and hearts all over the place. She tried not to snort, and looked around to spot Kevin Ford, her pseudo-date, over in a corner as per usual. She made her way over to him, avoiding eye contact with the mushy couples who were falling all over each other on the dance floor already.

"Why did we agree to this again?" she asked Kevin when she stopped in front of him. Even with her heels on, she was still shorter than him. "I blame you, even though it might have been my idea," she said, leaning towards a nearby cupcake on the food table and snatching it greedily. At least the treats were looking delicious.

JP between Jean and Scott

If Scott had his way, he would put Jean in Kathy and fly her someplace far away from this school for the night, someplace romantic, some place peaceful and quiet. Maybe only to go to Alaska, the cabin in the woods, just him and her. It was their second anniversary, their second year of barely surviving, but always staying together. He was so incredibly honored to be with her, and, he couldn't imagine a time when he wouldn't feel that way. Two years, twelve years, twenty... Scott, standing in the bed room with her carefully wrapped gift, knew that each year on this day, there was nothing more than her, no matter the world changing events going on around them.

The box he held had two gifts in it, one, the traditional second anniversary gift of something made of cotton (in this case, a night shirt of the sort she liked to sleep in) and two, something made of silk (that he wanted to see her not sleep in). It was wrapped with almost razor straight corners and the perfect amount of ribbon. Any other wife might think her husband had paid someone to wrap it so precisely.

Jean would know better.

A smirk tugged at her lips at sight of the two boxes. She knew what was in them, the thoughts were in the foremost of Scott’s mind. Her fingers slid along his lapels and affixing the red rose into place. Red, for romantic love, an oddly appropriate coincidence that it was the color that Scott saw the world in; she knew better than most that he really was a hopeless romantic at heart.

“You look dashing, darling,” her hands slid up and linked behind his neck. With her lips half a breath from his she said, “But if we have any hope of leaving the room tonight, we should leave the gifts until… later,” infusing the last word full of promise of things to come.

She slid her arms around his neck and he smiled as she brought her face up to his. "Do we really have to leave the room?" Scott asked, his tone matching hers. His hands rested on the small of her back and there wasn't room for a slip of paper between the rest of them. "I'm not all that interested in spending the night forcing small talk with the children, you know? I'd much rather have grown up time."

Jean moaned soft, deep in her throat. “Yes, I know, darling but you’ll enjoy it once we actually get down there. And besides, it’s your duty to set a good example and you alwaaaays do your duty,” giving him a knowing, secret smile.
Leaning forward, Scott kissed her lips and held her close for a long moment. Then he released her, and with his thumb wiped a smudge of her lipstick from his lips. "You are too good," he said, not really as admonishing as he pretended to be, "Hitting me in my weak spot." Tossing her presents on the bed, he took her hand, "Ok, Mrs. Grey-Summers, let's go and make our appearance, and do our duty for an hour. Then, let's come back and shirk responsibility for the rest of the night."

Jean wrapped her arm around his. “You’re half right, now that I have you all dressed up, I’m going to show off my handsome husband. Dinner reservations out on the town,” she continued as they strolled to the elevator, “then… something special,” she said mysteriously. “This is one of the few years that a catastrophe hasn’t loomed over our heads, I’m going to make the most of it.”

"Don't jinx it," Scott smirked as they headed downstairs. "You going to give me any hints or do I have to wait in breathless anticipation?" They strolled casually towards the ballroom, enjoying the relative calm and the peace. Scott tried not to think that it was too quiet, tried not to think that something was around the corner. He was happy and content and he wouldn't trade his life for anything in the world.

“I like you breathless,” she began, “but I’ll give you a hint. Up, up, and away - to our spot.”

They entered the cacophony of noise and dazzling lights; in fact, the last kind of place that Scott liked. Her thoughts reached out and caressed his, moving together with effortless ease. “Care for a dance?” tugging him toward the dancefloor as she asked. They didn’t know what was the “in” dance at the moment, and frankly, neither cared; Jean had a good sense of rhythm and moving seamlessly, as though they were one person, had become second-nature for them.

"If I dance, it will embarrass the hell out of the students," Scott chuckled, lightly. He kissed her hand and said, "You know I am only doing this for the promise of what comes after." And then, they were out on the floor, the loud music, the flashing lights, the clamor of the children, all forgotten when he watched her move.

On principal Kevin hated surprises, his powers had been a surprise when they manifested the first time and everything that had happened in the near future after that moment had been a surprise. So in his mind surprises usually meant worlds of pain and problems, at least if you had prewired knowledge you had the chance to prepare yourself for the outcome. That way when things went to hell you at least knew what you was coming and could meet the nightmare with some level of mutual respect. When Laurie made her entrance to the ball room, dressed to impress, Kevin finally understood what the term pleasant surprise actually meant.

Laurie was always pretty, but it was a tapped down type of beauty. He saw her daily in sweaters and jeans, still pretty but not exotic. When she made her entrance into the dance dressed in an actual dress, hair in curls, and done up to style he couldn't imagine how he had ever just thought her as only pretty before. Laurie Collins was beautiful in every definition of the word. Why she had ever needed pheromones to set people's tongues wagging was beyond him, the girl made his stomach do flips just with a smile.

Easy, he told himself, trying to make his expression calm. He didn't want her to see the effect she was having on him. They were friends, and friends only. He knew to well the limitations of his powers, and he valued her company too much to put a pressure there that could never be taken back. If he told her how much he liked her that could open up doors that could never be closed again. He would rather have her in his life as was then not have her around at all. Besides who needed romance and all that overdone shit anyways. He could be happy with Laurie the way thing were, right? Looking around again at the streamers and balloons and hearts he felt his bitterness swell again. God, he hated this holiday.

"Why did we agree to this again? I blame you, even though it might have been my idea,"

She said calling his attention back to her, and all the positive things about this night.

"Because" he said in answer to what had probably been a rhetorical question, "You thought it would be a good idea to get more involved with everyone. Besides you girls take any chance you can get to get all dressed up. Nice dress by the way."

He tried to keep his tone light as if he was complimenting the weather or room or something ordinary. If he didn't give away too much of himself things could stay how they had been, and he could content himself with that. It was all he could have so it would have to be enough. Well, almost enough.

Reaching into his coat pocket he retrieved a small box he had been carrying around for a few days. Just because Laurie couldn't exactly be his didn't mean he didn't want her to not like him above the rest, especially that Shepard kid he was a little too close for comfort. He handed the plain wrapped box to Laurie, gloved hands keeping his skin from making contact with hers.

"It's just a bracelet, nothing fancy and don't go reading anything into it. I figured it was custom to give the girl something, and I refuse to give candy and flowers because that's so stereotypical it outta be outlawed, So yeah, there you go. Happy Valentines day and all that crap"

He shrugged his shoulders as if in statement to say the gesture meant little, it was just a something in a world of somethings.

"You wanna get some punch? Maybe we'll get lucky and someone has spiked it with something harder then Sprite"

Alright, so shut up and listen to Rodney for a while. He didn't really care if Valentine's day was a holiday of crass consumerism and mindless destruction of what traditional thinkers would think of romance and replace it with some sort of capitalistic enterprise. All of that shit was bananas, b-a-n-a-a-s, because Valentine's Day meant that there was hell of a lot of more candy just lying around for the taking. And this prospect was just way too tempting to pass up. If all that whining about Valentine's Day meant that Rodney's net annual candy haul was less, than he was going to have to take a tire iron to a few people.

He had to get ready first, dress the part. He had his Sunday suit out, with a baby blue tie. He turned on his stereo to get him in the right mindset for this dance. "♪You're the best. Arooooound! Nothing's ever gonna keep you down! You're the best... AROOOUND!♪" It wasn't his normal musical milieu but it did get his blood pumping and that was the most important

Rodney tightened his tie; he had Mr. Scott teach him how to tie a tie a few weeks ago, so that he could look good. Normally, he just had his auntie or Geoffrey do it, but Geoffrey and his auntie weren't here, and it was time for Rodney to start learning how do things on his own, and be a man. After all, he was nearly 10 now.

He slipped through the doors and casually walked around the tables at periphery of the dance floor, pocketing the Hershey's Kisses that were on the table in the center. This was going to be a good haul for him and Artie.

Boo to all those Valentine's Day haters. She loved it. And not just because of all those sweets that came with it. Though candy was always good. Melody's side of the room was absolutely covered in clothing; everything that she owned. Her roommate wasn't going to be coming to the dance, at least that's what she said, but that was okay. If she didn't want to tshe didn't have to. It wasn't like Mel wouldn't smuggle some snacks up to Lee if she wanted something.

"This a'right?" she asked, not listening as she checked her reflection for the hundredth time, turning and sighing. An ankle length white skirt and a light pink top with.. sneakers. Hey. Not everyone could afford to buy frivolous outfits for one day. And she didn't have any pretty shoes. Not like she was dressing to impress anyone. Most of the guys were older or much younger than her anyway... "Well.. Ah'm goin' down now. See ya soon."

The halls were strangely quiet on her way down to the ballroom. Seriously, a ballroom. They really had a ballroom. Unreal. Upon her arrival, she stood stock still in the doorway. "Oh crap..."

Everyone was all dressed up. The decorations were more down to earth, but some of the outfits were unfairly pretty. She was beginning to regret not breaking the bank for this, but it was just for a silly dance right? It wasn't like she looked bad.. just...

Melody pouted a little and looked for a friend in the sea of faces, someone who didn't seem occupied in.. well... valentine's day stuff. No luck. "Ah should've just hid up with Lee," she said with a sigh and made her way over to get a handful of the candy hearts.

((OCC: Sorry, epic post.))

Today was Valentine's Day and everyone was getting all lovey-dovey and dressed in shades of red and white. Even her roommate? Anne Lee hid her smile as she gave the appearance of being too engrossed in her laptop dealings as she watched Melody from the corner of her eye as she pulled out almost all her clothing to find that perfect Valentine's outfit.

Valentine's Day was for the lovers and the haters, not for her. The young summoner would rather spend her time typing away at nonsense than casting looks of envy at her crush and his wannabe girlfriend. (At least she had a better chance of being his girlfriend than her.) When did she start thinking of guys as more than just beings to collect information about? Well, at least that guy. With hope he was better.

But, browsing the internet was not the only way to entertain herself on this Valentine's day. Oh, no, no, no. The moment Melody left for the dance, Anne Lee pulled out her cell phone. Now this is what she called fun.

For some, Valentine's Day caused much more worry than the feeling of romantic thoughts. Mittens changed into the only suit he owned (the one he wore at the Grey-Summers' wedding two years ago) and, to his great disappointment, both the sleeves of the jacket and his pant legs were too short. How great, he actually got taller.

In a panic, the catboy tore through his closet. Kel already had gone and left for the party. His roommate would be one of the chaperons for the dance tonight. This meant he wasn't there to help him. Great, oh great, what would he do now!

Ten minutes later Mittens entered the dance wearing an expression that truly said, 'great, why am I here again?' You see, Mittens did not have a date. He was one of the students who were told that they needed to go out and socialize. So here he was in all the great and glory of not wearing his own suit. With hope Kel would forgive him for borrowing a spare pair of black slacks which had to be rolled up so he wouldn't make a fool of himself by tripping over them. Also, he added a belt so, well, the goal was not to become the laughing stock of the evening. At least he was lucky enough to own a white long-sleeved dress shirt that fit perfectly. The suit was topped off with a black silk bow tie and a pair of shiny black shoes that could be barely seen from beneath the pant legs. Kel was so much taller than him, so much taller.

Unlike the Austin sibs, Jayson found herself not worrying about who her crush was going out with, or what to wear. The only dress she owned was the one she wore for Jean and Scott's wedding two years prior. The simple green dress with ruffled layers fit her just as perfectly as it did back when Violey and she went dress shopping. Light yellow-bronze evening gloves ending three inches above her elbows complimented the buckle on the dress and her matching green heels rather nicely. Tonight was a night to dress to impress but she did not attend the Valentine's Day Dance to impress anyone in particular.

Knowing full well that the dancing couple would disappear to celebrate their two year anniversary away from the kiddies, Jayson volunteered herself to watch the proceedings of the party. Until they left she would mingle and enjoy herself. However, as she neared the snacks table where those not dancing mingled, she noticed one of the party goers not enjoying himself as he should.

"Why can't you come down yourself?" Mittens asked his sister on the other side of the receiver. One of the many things Anne Lee did that irked him so much was her calling his cell phone when they lived in the same building! Why couldn't she come down to this dance herself and sneak her own food!?

"Because, I don't wanna," Anne Lee answered her brother childishly. She wanted some of the party favors but she did not want to make the effort to transverse the hallways to the ballroom.

"I am not going to hold a cupcake for you for however long you want me to so you can summon it without worrying about summoning a different cupcake that is not one of the Valentine's cupcakes on the snack table. It would be much quicker and easier if you come here yourself and get one. No! I'm not going to bring you up a plate full of them for you." Mittens really wasn't happy.

Now, Mr. Austin was a lot louder than he thought he was. So Jayson had heard more than enough of his side of the conversation to understand the situation. The blonde summoner, who also avoided student get-togethers as much as the catboy, wanted to ruin the dance for her brother before he could even enjoy himself. Asserting herself, Jayson took Mittens' cell phone out of his hand and started to address the caller.

"OK Miss Austin," Jayson said to a semi-shocked Anne Lee. The use of the summoner's last name meant this was serious. Oh great. "You either come get the cupcakes yourself and leave you brother alone or sit and enjoy your Valentine's Day without succumbing to your sweet tooth."

Knowing full well that Jayson would shut her brother's cell phone before allowing her to say goodbye and making one last demand for a cupcake, Anne Lee yelled at her brother through the phone for anyone in a fifteen foot radius to hear her.

"You don't want me to play match-maker. So go find yourself a girl-" The call was cut off.

Jayson carefully turned off the phone and handed it back to Mittens. "Go enjoy yourself," she told him. "Valentine's Day only comes once a year," she added before walking over to the queue of people in front of the drinks table.

Stunned, Mittens took the phone without realizing that he was staring at the stone-turner. How could she be so nonchalant about Valentine's Day with powers like hers? Lost in thought he drifted to the edge of the dance floor. What had just happened?

The music pumped through Maxwell, and as he finished his sandwich he noticed other had gathered around the snack table. He turned and smiled to one of the chaperones, Mr. Russell was his name. " Yeah, I’m having a good time, I mean it's a dance, and I love to dance." He told Mr. Russell. Soon, a girl had approached them, he remembered her from the last time he had gotten together with other students. " Thanks, you look great yourself." He answered to Kam. She did look nice too, her dress was really pretty, and her shoes were great. He liked how people could have such cool styles. He smiled at Kelrian as he passed by the tables also.

The dance was becoming more and more packed, and people were filling up the ballroom. It looked like a really big event, and people dressed to impress. Maxwell noticed that the snack table was becoming a little full. He thought about moving, but he didn’t have a group to just hang with. He smiled at everyone around him. He smiled a lot, and his jaw was beginning to ache due to that. He picked up a cup of strawberry soda, and drank it hoping for it to calm his ache. It did a little but not all the way.

Suddenly, Maxwell heard the song Paparazzi came on by Lady gaga and he smiled brightly, even though it made his jaw hurt a little more. He turned to the others around him, " See you later, I’m going to dance." he said as he dove onto the dance floor. Dancing would get his mind off of his jaw. He began moving to the beat, and let himself get lost in song. He felt at ease, and like he was normal for once in a long time. His moves were swift and matched the tempo of the song. He pictured himself far far away on a secluded island, moving to the sounds of the nature around him, as the moon caressed his body. He was having a lot of fun dancing on the dance floor, he moved just right so not to bump into other students who were also dancing.

It was Valentine’s Day, a day filled with chocolate and other sweets, sappy or perhaps adorable cards, hearts and the color red. It was a day to celebrate love, love of one’s friends, family and most importantly romantic love. Sofia Mantega had always loved Valentine’s Day, even when she didn’t have a Valentine of her own, if she didn’t she usually just gave chocolate and cards to her friends. There was going to be a Valentine’s Dance at the mansion this year, and she was looking forward to it, normally she might have tried to help plan it, but she had been exceptionally busy with school work and other things. She had managed to find some time to go shopping for a dress for it though, and had picked out one that she at least thought was cute.

She was a little impatient for the couple of days before the dance, but finally it came, and though she ended up not having a date for this particular dance, she fully intended on going anyway. She figured if nothing else she would find the most awkward looking guy at the dance and convince him to dance with her or if she was lucky maybe someone would ask her to dance. Either way she was going to enjoy the dance no matter what. It took her less time to get ready than it might have for other girls, since she didn’t care that much about her appearance.

She had been told that she was beautiful on more than one occasion, but didn’t make a big deal out of it. She merely curled her hair, put on some eyeliner, mascara and sparkly lip gloss then changed into her dress. The dress was a red, strapless mini-dress with slightly lighter colored red polka dots decorating it, as well as a black slash, also polka dotted, tied a couple inches below her breasts. She added a silver hair band, with crystalline black flowers decorating it to her curled hair, pulled on a pair of black sparkly tights and then finally a pair of red peep-toe high heels with bows decorating them. She glanced at herself in the mirror for a moment, and once satisfied she headed down to the ball room.

There were already several people there once she arrived and she recognized most of them, it was mostly other students as well as a few staff members. There were a few people dancing, but also a few people hanging out around the snack table. She decided to head over to the snack table as well, it would be easier to maybe try to find someone to dance with if she stood a bit away from the gathering crowd. She reached the table and picked up a cupcake, her dark eyes glancing around for someone to at least strike up a conversation with. She saw Kelrian after a moment, she rather liked his outfit, especially the hat. She walked over to him and smiled, “I love your hat.” She commented, her smile widening a bit into more of a grin.

Outfit because I felt like making one of these xD

Cupcakes were great. While Jayson might be semi-famous in the mansion for her muffins, Kel wasn't bad in the kitchen. Which was why he'd offered to help with the snacks for the dance, though he was mostly overseeing students that wanted to pitch in. Most of it was pretty simple and light, though surely some kids would end up filling up with candy and getting sick. Kel, however, was fine with the one cupcake he'd snagged. Chocolate with red frosting, it had a chocolate covered cherry on it. If asked, he'd freely admit that he'd made them like that because he wanted them.

The dance was bound to last longer than his interest could be held. His attention just couldn't be held by the dancers, the decorations, or the fact that Mittens was ... wandering around wearing a pair of Kel's black dress pants. Which, although rolled up at the bottoms, were way too long on the short catboy. The blond young man stared for a moment, and against his will, laughed a little. Hopefully his friend and roommate wouldn't notice he laughed, what with the noise in the ballroom, despite his great hearing. It was just... he would have ordered something for him if he'd mentioned he hadn't anything to wear. Or if they had time, drag him out to shop. Well, it was far too late for that now.

Kel shook his head and decided he'd leave poking fun at his friend for later. All in a friendly way of course. He knew that Robert could be a little moody about getting teased, but the blond tended to get away with things that others hadn’t a chance. Not that he pushed it. Well, at least not often. They were friends after all. He wouldn’t want to upset him whether or not he could get away with it. After a while, he just started to listen to the music, since… well, he didn’t intend to dance or anything, and it was bound to get boring just watching everyone else have fun. Although he was glad people were enjoying themselves. It was nice that the kids at the mansion could just be normal kids for once, worrying about stupid things like clothes and dates and whether they really should eat another cupcake.

He noticed Sofia when she entered, but lost track of her in the crowd. While they weren’t really close friends, he’d known her longer than the newer batches of students at least. Last he’d known, she was dating someone. A moderately self-absorbed someone, if he remembered right. Eh, whatever. It wasn’t important. Where was Vic? He was coming, wasn’t he? Not that it mattered. Though. He’d much rather be up in the boys lounge playing video games with his friend than standing here..

“I love your hat.”

“Huh?” Kel turned to see, Sofia. She must have been at the snack table as well, since she had a cupcake too. “Thanks, I know it’s a bit silly I guess but I figured if I was going to dress up I might as well have fun with it,” he said, a little embarrassed now that it had been pointed out and he had to admit to it. Going overboard was just fun. ‘Overboard’. He’d done that in the DR too, come to think of it, during a mock sea battle… The blond shook his head to get his thoughts back on track. “You’re looking wonderful, your dress is adorable and you did something to your hair-” he just stopped speaking and grinned, mid-compliment. He was such an idiot with words, sometimes.

“How long, do you think, before they sneak away?” Kel asked, jerking his chin lightly toward Jean and Scott. While he’d like to wish them a happy anniversary or something, he was sure they wanted to get away as soon as possible… gah. Didn’t. Want. To. Think. About. That. It was as bad as thinking about his dad and his step-mothe- GAH. No. Just, no. “I wish I hadn’t thought of that..” he muttered under his breath, grimacing slightly and trying desperately to think of something less traumatizing.
