Jack stood aside, a little further from the snack table to accommodate the growing group of people around it. He contented himself by watching other people, watching as Kam approached wearing a beautiful dress. Hey fellas! You two look great. Kel was next. Hey guys. Then Max again before he took off to the dance floor. Yeah, I’m having a good time, I mean it's a dance, and I love to dance. The party was picking up now as more students arrived as well as some staff. He smiled a little as he watched Jean tug Scott out to the dance floor--their relationship was very sweet--and it was hard to believe that they were married now. So much had changed. Everything sounded fuzzy as people talked all at once, but he couldn't help but overhear something unfolding between Robert, Jayson, and someone on the phone. Why can't you come down yourself? It wasn't nice to eavesdrop, and it wasn't as though he was intentionally, but he did want to keep an eye and ear on things. Meanwhile, a line began to form at the punch, its pink pungency spilling out over the table a little as one had trouble with the ladle. Jack stepped forward gently. "Uhm. Here, let me help you with that." He took over spooning out portions of punch for a small line of students, being as careful as he could to not spoil the pretty table. The line diminished with an orderly distributor, and Jack glanced up as he faintly heard the voice of Robert's sister emanating from his phone. You don't want me to play match-maker. So go find yourself a girl- Cringing a little, Jack tried to busy himself with the punch again, although that was difficult to do considering there was just one student waiting for punch. Jayson drifted towards the table as Robbie went to the edge of the dance floor, seemingly in a daze. Working his jaw a little, Jack put down the ladle and wiped his palms on his khakis absent-mindedly. He nodded to Jayson, "Hi. Everything.. okay over there?" Jack asked as she got close enough, nodding towards Robert |

"Hello Jack," Jayson said giving a smile. "Yeah, everything is OK." She was not sure how much she should tell to Jack about the Austin sibs. Over the last few months Mittens had gotten out of his box some. It was him who had set up volunteers for the Halloween party at the community center in Mutant Town. She'd seen his advertisement for tutoring so other students could also succeed in their school work. Even so, Jayson knew Mittens' sister could be possessive. So her demands over the cell phone did not surprised Jayson one bit. She just wished Anne Lee would give her brother some room to grow in to his own person. "Anne Lee's the type to want everything," Jayson finally said with a shrug. "Don't see why she can't come down here herself and grab a cupcake or summon one. She just wants to make sure where her brother is at all times." Reaching out she grabbed one of the glasses of punch. Taking a moment she drank some of the punch before continuing. "Though she's right. Not sure if there would be harm in young Robert finding a girlfriend. Just wish she made it less obvious." Her eyes drifted to the dance floor. The catboy had stopped without getting swallowed up by the dancing couples. It seemed strange to her that he hadn't had a girlfriend by now or at least had girls he talked to. She saw that a few of the girls without dates and some that did were looking at him. Maybe they liked him or thought is was sad the cute, little catboy had no one to go to the dance with. Some had overheard what his sister yelled at him. By the time the dance was over he would at least have someone to dance with. She bet on it. "Must be nice," she said to no one. There was a silent longing in her voice. "Oh, yeah, nothing to worry about. Anne Lee will grow-up one day," Jayson said getting back to the conversation. She looked at Jack again giving a smile. "How are you taking the dance? This must be my fourth one attending and nothing's really changed. I still don't dance." A laugh ended her sentence. |
