TIME: 3:21 AM DATE: January 5th occurs directly after: ANYWHERE BUT NOWHERE Kimberly was curled up in the passenger seat, she had drove almost five hours out of new york before starting to pass out at the wheel. Kel and Jayson took it upon themselves to swap with her. A day of driving later all three were starting to fade and Kimberly was absent mindedly considering having them pull over in the next town and stay at an hotel, but was half afraid of being a mutant in the midwest. They had swapped back and forth so many times that they had managed to end up in Oklahoma with few stops. Eventually Kimberly pulled herself into a proper sitting position and leaned over to Kelrian who happened to be driving. "Sooo...you wanna stop and get a hotel? Maybe a bite to eat? We need to relax...like totally." The radio was silent right now after Kel and Kimmy had a little spat over the music playing on the radio, more specifically that Kimberly had started to loose her patience with Kel's music choice. There was only so much techno a girl could tolerate. Kimberly felt bad for lashing out at Kel and it was apparent in her voice, and the fifty times she had apologized for her tone since Illinois. She started gathering her things however, as if it was already decided that they were stopping, because her space in the right side of the car was a disaster zone anyway, with the laptop she had brought with them with 3G internet and GPS, the map, 3 containers of half eaten pringles, and countless empty cups of coffee. |

So. Kelrian had only very recently gotten his license. Driving was better than riding as a passenger along the lines of frustration with being stuck in a small space for a long period of time. He was focused on something and all that. So he was a little better of than if he was, say, just along for the ride. Things had been fine, it seemed, until a short while ago. Either the length of time in the car was fraying people's nerves, or Kimmy was ragging, because out of no where she'd had a hissy fit over his choice in music. Honestly he'd thought that techno was a good compromise, rather than listening to some rock or industrial which he'd really prefer for a long ride. But apparently it had started to grate on her nerves, and instead of saying something about it like a normal person, maybe suggest something else or turn off the radio for a while- she decided to snap at him about it. Now, he was not sulking. Not at all. He was just being quiet. He wasn't upset, really, he just wasn't feeling talkative now. She was probably just really stressed, and techno could get on one's nerves after a while. Still... he glanced over at Jayson. She seemed off in her own world. He shook his head and returned his attention to the road. He could go as long as they felt like going. If they didn't feel like sleeping in the car while he drove, though, he wouldn't mind stopping. Just. Hopefully not in some sketchy place. In an actual mark on the map- worthy town or city. He had to have something to do while the girls slept. |

So far the trip had been a quiet one making only rest stops to stretch the legs and to get warm food and coffee. If Jayson did not know California being the destination then she would have begged to stop in Chicago. Other than wanting to have tourist time and not being able to, she thought this time on the road was going a whole lot smoother. They were mutants, yes, but not one of them had an obvious physical mutation. Now if Violey had been on this trip then things would be different. She might even have something to complain about. Jayson occupied her time in an expert manner of one being used to travel. For the last hour she dozed off in a day dream. The tension in the air between Kimmy and Kel wasn't noticed. Heck, she hadn't even heard the spat about the music. No matter what the music was, she didn't care. The scenery out the window changed constantly from cityscape to wooded area to open road to snow. Road Trippin' in the winter wasn't exactly smart but the three of them would make a great team if the CRV went off the road. Jayson's mutation would work great for digging out the vehicle from a snowbank or pushing it back on the road. Kimmy could manipulate the water in the air to stop the snow falling on them, with hope. As for Kel, well, being a regen came in handy. Out of the three of them, he would be the most fit to start driving as soon as they were back on the road. Yes, if they were run off the road for any reason, there was nothing to worry about. A rather loud and annoying beeping ringtone filled the car. The moment it sounded Jayson jumped. If she wasn't wearing her seat belt then she'd made it to the front of the car. It wasn't exactly the ringtone that startled her. No, it was the fact she made sure to put the phone on vibrate as well before sticking in the side pocket of her jeans. "Sorry guys," Jayson said pulling out her phone. Hmmm, it was a txt. Only a few people had her number and of those few, one, possibly two, would txt her. Giving a yawn she read the message and closed her phone to return it to her pocket. No point in replying since she didn't feel like messaging at the moment. "Kimmy and I should switch places. Kel could keep driving. Let's do something," she said pulling out a pair of ear plugs from her ears. It really wasn't as though she wished to ignore everything happening in the car. Peace and quiet in such a small place became a rather difficult commodity to have when more than one person shared a car. Violey used to get furious with her because she thought everything she said was one hundred percent important and everyone should hear. As for Jayson, she was simple. The part about the hotel was missed. "I mean the back gives ya more room if you want to sleep. Oh, and Faye got a job at X-corp. Not sure how or why, don't want to know, but thought it was something." |

"We are going to stop here at a hotel soon Jayson." Kimberly commented at Jayson's suggestions, digging through her iPhone for a suitable hotel, it had to have free wifi and a microwave. Cable television was a plus since the rooms at the school weren't wired for cable, only the rec and media rooms. And that was normally News. Kimberly swiveled around and leaned into the back seat to show her the hotel she had found on her phone. Four stars, decent rooms, but they were still in the center of hickville USA. "Also Imma gonna need you to grab my Black wig." Kimberly brought a handful of different wigs for outtings like these, the worst possible thing to happen in the middle of the united states was for a mutant celebrity to be wandering about, and somehow most people were too stupid to see through the wig. "So what do you think of the hotel JayJay bird?" Kimberly seemed to have cheered up some from when they left, managing to put the task at hand far from her mind. "I think we do need to stop for sure though, we are all tired and bitchy. It would do us good to just take a day off." She made her observations as they exited into the town they were to spend the night at. "Should I book that one? Its only 100 for one night. We could stay two nights and be nice and recovered for the rest of the trip." It also sounded like Kimberly was trying to prolong the trip. |

Kelrian's attention was mostly on the road for a good reason. He hadn't had his license for a full year yet. While he was comfortable driving, and he knew what he was doing, he had passengers. And he wasn't used to that yet. Luckily for them all this wasn't the first time he'd driven in the snow. Although they would likely, with their mutations, do better than most if they went off road, it would be best if they didn't find out the truth of that. An annoying beeping ringtone irked Kel. "Whose-ever phone that is, could you get that?" And make that noise stop. Jayson apologized for the noise or whatever and checked her phone, not saying anything more about it. Ah well. Kel wasn't going to be nosy about it. "Um. Please, please don't switch places while I'm driving. At the very least wait until I can pull over." While he didn't mind being volunteered to continue driving- he was a little stressed. And as previously mentioned he was moderately new to driving. Them flipping around would be a little distracting. Maybe a break would be a good idea after all. He barely noticed the comment about Faye getting a job at X-Corp. Didn't know that she was still in contact with the seer. The girls looked at a hotel on Kimmy's iPhone, discussing it and how long they would be staying. Two nights? Wouldn't the girls get bored? There wasn't anything really interesting around that he knew of. Then again, he didn't know much about the place.. "I'm not tired, but I'm probably a little bitchy," he admitted. Maybe resting a while would be for the best. |

"A hotel?" Jayson said returning both her phone and the ear plugs to her jeans' pocket. "Sounds a whole lot better than sleeping in the car, actually. More room, not so cramped." When Kimmy turned around to show her the hotel description, Jayson looked at in briefly. She would have been fine with a motel as long as it was clean but Kimmy was used to the celebrity life as with Violey being used to a rich lifestyle. X-factor suited her friend but there were days where she wondered how content her friend really was there. As for Kimmy, well, a hotel actually sounded rather pleasing. Jayson may not have been the one in the bickering but she too was feeling plain worn out. At the request of the wig, Jayson unbuckled her seat belt and leaned over the back seat to where the bags were kept. As she pawed through the luggage, Jayson mused a thought out loud. "Not like it's noticeable your a mutant, so it might not be allowed, but why not make a request for an image inducer," she suggested. "Your celebrity status is just as much as a give-a-way to your powers as Violey's face. Just a thought." With the little add-on Jayson held out to Kimmy her black wig. "No need for another wig malfunction, right?" Kel said he might be a little bitchy. This made Jayson out right laugh. Having missed the fight the comment had no background, so it was just funny. Like a joke or something. "Yeah, a break is great. Book it, Kimmy. Though only for a night. We're only in need of sleep. There's no tourist attractions around here." She spoke as if she'd been in the area once upon a time. "Though, we could drive a bit longer if we wanted to stay more than a night. Somewhere more interesting? I totally can stand a few more hours in the car. It's not like this is a fifteen hour flight in the Blackbird or space shuttle trip to the moon." |

Kimberly smiled at Jayson "A image inducer wouldn't be as fun." She pulled on her wig cap and adjusted the wig a little so it was on straight. "If you just want to stay a day, thats totally alright." Kimberly back peddled, trying not to seem too desperate to slow down. The closer the kids got to California, the more visibly anxious and irritable she was. "As far as wig malfunctions go, That was more Longshot's fault wasn't it?" She grumbled, she had since that day in Salem occasionally complained about the probability manipulator. time skip to hotel About forty five minutes later, Kimbery, Jayson and Kel were comfortably unpacked in the mid-size suite style hotel, Kimberly had paid with a disposable debit card under the name 'Ashlee Russel', it wasn't very clever, considering it was one of Kimberly's characters, but in her defense, noone got the joke. She unfolded on her and Jayson's bed, the suite only had one bed and a pull out, and Kel was defaulted to the less comfortable pullout couch. She stared at the ceiling for a while lost in thought and eventually rolled over to look at Jayson and Kel. "Thanks again guys, I dont think I can possibly say that enough" |

Honestly. Kel tended to forget what the difference was between a hotel and a motel. What was the difference between a hotel and a motel again? Since where ever he traveled when he was younger, camping was more likely than spending the night in either a hotel or a motel. It just had never been something that came up for him. The girls sorted out the details while he drove. "Well, that settles it. Just let me know which exit it is - before it comes up, please," Kel said to Kimmy before returning his attention to the road. Having a destination somewhere close was great, something else to focus on. He smiled slightly when Jayson passed their friend a black wig. It was strange how little people noticed, how easy it was for Kimmy to fool them. He hadn't been along for the trip to Salem which had apparently been the source of much trouble, but he'd heard a bit about it. Seemed strange. Unlikely that things had happened as they had. But they had... -skippy- Everything was paid for, unpacked, and comfy. Kel wasn’t going to be unfolding the couch into a bed later. It was more comfortable as a couch. Odds were he was going to just listen to his ipod and chill out while the girls slept. Everything around was probably closed at night... No matter. Because he really needed coffee, when he had way too much energy in the first place, he put some water on for some. He wasn’t sure when he got in the habit of drinking that stuff, but it seemed to have the opposite effect on him than most people. Relaxed him. After he’d gotten that started, he went to join the girls. They were being a bit quiet; he was about to suggest that they watch a movie or something before they head to bed. Then Kimmy spoke. “Kimmy, I could have hardly let the two of you go this alone,” he said, looking serious for a moment before grinning. As if they couldn’t take care of themselves. As if his presence would deter any trouble. If that had been why he was on the trip, there was a lot of other people at the mansion that looked more… well, more. No, he was really just there for the moral support. |

"Just saying," Jayson said to Kimmy. Yeah, she'd heard her friend complain about Longshot and how it was him who'd caused her secret identity to be foiled. Actually, she'd heard it from Violey too since she'd been at The Haven that night as well. It'd happened right after meeting where Jayson got promoted to full X-man. "Suit yourself," she then said with a shrug. As long as they weren't being tracked by SHIELD, waiting for the trio of mutants to make a mistake, then another wig malfunction wouldn't be much of a problem. Kimmy's attitude about it reminded her slightly about how Violey thought cover-up would be enough to conceal the markings on her face. So be it. --timeskip-- There was nothing wrong with the room. She bet that Kimmy would even call up room service if she requested something to eat. This trip, though not really a vacation, had its perks. Except for one thing. The only thing missing in the room was another bed. Jayson leaned against the window and looked outside. She kept quiet in her thoughts until Kimmy spoke. She turned slowly trying to form the words in her head before speaking them aloud. However, she addressed what Kimmy said before telling her worries. "If I left you to do this by yourself, then how could you call me a friend?" she said with a grin. "You're welcome." With a nod she turned back to the window. "You think the hotel has a spare cot?" she asked a minute later with a slight hesitation in her voice. She didn't want to sound as though she wouldn't share a bed with her friend, that there was something wrong with Kimmy. "I, you see... I'll have to stay up all night to make sure you don't accidentally brush against my skin in your sleep. Can't ask Kel to sleep on the floor either," she added looking again at her two friends. "If there's not a cot, I'll sleep on the floor." |
