And so it had begun, like a new toy presented before an army of children several of the staff had assembled to scope the new professor out. Perhaps their intentions were a bit more earnest then hers but she regarded them as being all the same old same. You never received a second chance at a first impression, and though she had forged her new life on trying to present a changed presence to what her original representation had been, it was still difficult.

Emma liked that the new man had no knowledge of her prior to this greeting, though she imagined that before the day was done plenty of the staff and students would obligingly fill him in. Everyone watch out for the devil in white Prada, the wolf in X-men clothes, it had been that way since she first came here, had been cemented when she came back after Apocalypse, and was something that was bringing a challenge everyday. Looking at the new teacher as he was taken aback by the rush of greeters and assembled visitors she felt a tinge of envy for his predicament. He had something she had never had here, a clean slate to forge out whatever path he wanted. He could be beloved or hated, debonair or slovenly, no one would really know till he showed them. Professor Virgis still maintained his mystery, and Emma couldn't help but notice the warmth of the reception given to this stranger and compare it to the hostile treatment she had been given and often received. Perhaps absolution for past sins was something only the Catholics did? Xavier's preached a profound message, but around here she knew one was only as good as their last favor.

They bantered and bickered, and engaged in their benign back and forth, the blue beast, the green nurse, the red haired feral, and her masculine counterpart. Honestly the whole scene was more vibrant then a United Colors of Beneton add. Emma wanted to roll her eyes and depart them all leaving her chilly reception in her wake, but she held her ground. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither were relationships. To get where she wanted to be the White Queen would have to loosen from her perch and make with the make nice. She looked around at the assembled crowd again and sighed, a trip to the dentist for intense veneer work seemed like a more profitable choice then engaging this lot. How the mighty had fallen, and how far a tumble it was from Hellfire to home front.

She could hear them muttering something about an electrical problem. Honestly in a state of the art mutant training center was no one equipped with the ability to change a fuse or turn a light bulb? Mutants that traveled time and space they could stop, horsemen of death and mutant gang members, all in the days work. A faulty light bulb? Someone send in the national guard! She wanted to speak up to Scott and say 'really, really this is what I have to engage in to be accepted by you people', but prudence winning over she held her tongue. No one said playing nice would be easy or any fun either.

"I'm sure Dr. McCoy can assist Nurse Doyle in her light bulb problem. Surely we pay maintenance enough here to handle such as that. I am curious though what brings you here Professor Virgis. We are rewarded to have your talents join our humble school, but a man such as yourself must have had his pick of the field of places to teach. What made you decide on Xaviers?"

She batted her eyes and played off as sweetly as she could. With one telepathic push she could know everything about the man down to his favorite brand of cereal, but maybe it would be the right thing to see how the rest of the world did it. It would definitely be out of form that was for sure, but maybe that was what this little exercise was all about, going against your nature to discover something better about yourself and maybe just maybe, something about someone else.

Clearly the bombardment of their school's furry contingent was overwhelming to the newcomer, who had already mentioned his unfamiliarity with mutants of even a 'passable' sort, much less the visibly different, so as the bickering and bantering turned towards each other, Scott put a hand on Hank's shoulder, very subtly signaling with his head that it might help if they all went about their business. After working so long with each other, on and off the field, they shouldn't have any problems figuring out the nonverbal methods of communication that were sometimes required. Scott, himself, was not incredibly good at reading emotions on people's faces, but, he was able to judge the telegraphing of intention through body language. If one couldn't read the actions of an opponent, one would be of no use on a battlefield.

And, speaking of battlefields, Emma Frost and her forced pleasantness was a war of its own kind, wasn't it. She was trying very hard, and it was killing her. Part of Scott felt a little bad for the woman. He understood keenly the difficulty of mandatory socializing. Of course, his problems with it were the reverse of hers. She clearly still considered it beneath her to be friendly with her 'social inferiors' whereas Scott had never entirely grown out of feeling like an unwanted orphan with a dangerous power. But, he did appreciate her making the effort. It made him feel he was making the right decision giving the woman the opportunity to make a better second impression.

Giving half a smile to Emma, inviting her to join them, Scott said, "Let's talk as we continue the tour?"

Her offered chocolate to Jack came with an expected reaction, recoiling from the little slab of sweetness held between her delicate, minty fingers. Her head tilted slightly and he must have realized that she didn’t understand his dislike for it. Generally everyone liked chocolate, and even if they did, she’d never seen someone flinch from it like it was poison.

"No! I mean.. um.. sorry.. uh.. I'm deathly allergic to the stuff.." He fumbled with his excuse as he tried to recover.

“Oh…I’m sorry,” She apologized, retracting her hand and looking down at the tiny chocolate blocks. “I didn’t know.

Indeed it was strange, and Avery blinked at him as she was surprised by his answer. She hadn’t known. Which because she was a nurse, it was something she didn’t like the thought of at all. Had she missed it in his files? Was it in there at all? She had to check right away.

Meanwhile, Hank was chatting with their new visitor for a moment before he inquired about Rahne’s students and classes. Of course, Rahne wasn’t being irresponsible, but she couldn’t help but make a joking matter of the question. Avery started the tiniest of giggles before she quickly stifled it, not wanting to encourage Rahne any further.

However a smile still remained on her face as Sander spoke to Avery. "I could help you, Miss Doyle, if that is okay with you. I have a... gift when it comes to electrical problems." The offer was sweet for someone who hadn’t known her at all, for someone who was a stranger to the whole school yet so eager to help. Though she would’ve thought it to be polite to take him up on his offer, she also knew they there were more important things for this man to be doing. If he was to be taking a position at the school there were many people to meet and the area to get familiar with. She would have to politely decline instead.

”I can help you with your problem, Avery," Hank said. "Or so can Mister... Virgis, was it? Your choice." Hank was her next choice after all, even though she could plainly tell that he had something else planned for her little free time before his next class. Much time spent with the man she could slightly pick up on the subtlety that his time was limited. Nevertheless, she would pick him knowing also that with Hank, her little electrical issue certainly wouldn’t take long. She was just thinking of replying with Emma quickly spoke up.

"I'm sure Dr. McCoy can assist Nurse Doyle in her light bulb problem. Surely we pay maintenance enough here to handle such as that…” A few words after, Avery’s perfectly keen ears stopped listening as a pleasant smile slipped on her face. Such was the way of Emma, even though Avery had never even given her a snippy thought; she was treated as beneath her nonetheless, just like all the rest. Well…If the sun shone from Emma’s ass like she certainly thought it did, certainly they would need a lot less light bulbs at the institute, wouldn’t they?

“Miss Frost is right,” Avery replied politely with a small smile when Emma was finished. “Thank you for your offer, but I don’t wish to interrupt your tour further, Dr. McCoy can help me. I’m sure we’ll be seeing more of each other soon.” Finishing up, she took a step back from the group, a light shiver from the cold rolling down her spine before she looked to Hank. “I’ll have a coffee ready for you when you come.” With a smile she looked back to Sander and gave a soft nod before she left. “It was nice meeting you, Mister Virgis.”
