This summer, Faye had been recuperating at the mansion after his powers had gone haywire and sent him into a catatonic state for about six months. Good old Eldan had brought his sorry self for Jean to fix up, and - another good six months after leaving - the blocks on his powers were completely gone and he was right as rain. Well. Except for headaches, but after what he'd done to himself he was lucky he was just having headaches.

But that wasn't what was on his mind, that is when he wasn't chatting with random students about what they were planning on doing after they were finished with their schooling. Not everyone was suited for the life of the X-Men, but who wouldn't want to help out the mutant cause while getting paid for the work they did? Especially if it didn't involved people attempting to chop you to bits at intervals.

The year or so he'd lived at the mansion, before he'd left because of.. well, that didn't matter anymore. He was over it. The wasted time. Don't take that wrong, it was a great place. Just not HIS place. He'd never been suited to life there. He'd never been suited to, well, anything he'd done, ever. Which made the rightness of his current path so amazing for him.

No more trying for something impossible. No more trying to change himself to suit others. No more pretenses. Gone were all the old masks. For the first time in his life, he was just himself, and maybe he wasn't the useless fool after all. Maybe he could really change things. First, he'd just had to change his view, the nihilistic miasma that had nearly caused him to self-destruct. Hope was a precious thing to those who rarely held it.

The red-haired Seer was seated behind a longish table with papers and the usual shit that recruiters usually bring to schools... and since no one was currently talking to him, he was writing very rapidly and messily into a small notebook. He had several filled up already. Plans for the future, notes on what he'd seen. What he thought. X-Corp was not idle at present, not really, but it could be so much more than it was. It could make a difference, change the world...

Edmund sighed, trailing behind Adrien and plopping himself down on the 'longish' table with loads of papers that were due for signatures and souls. Edmund looked around, rather conflicted to his current position. He didn't really know what to think of this place. He'd been here... well, maybe once, but that shouldn't really have counted as anything. If it was doing something, it was making him curl up inside like a Vietnam veteran. His only 'visit' being from when the world was in a state of -- you know -- everything dying and fighting eachother. It just so happened that he went sledding with some kid across a river and ended up facing off with one of the Four Horsemen, War. Needless to say, it wasn't much of a battle. Edmund had hoped that the kid he was skiing with actually new how to control his powers. Apparently he did not -- or Edmund just didn't know what temperature it took to make your limbs black and blue. Frozen limbs he'd been totted here by someone and treated by a mutant healer. Edmund felt like a horrible person. The one time he was able to help people -- everyone at once -- he fucked it up.

Nice going you Arkansas brat.

Wow... you're really tied up about that, aren't you?

But, that was almost a year ago, or something. Now he was sitting here at the place where he almost lost his ability to walk and by some miraculous touch he kept everything and his junk.

"Tough crowd," he noted the non-existant presence of volunteers, taking a sip at a Pepsi can he brought with him. "I guess they know about child labor laws?" He half-joked, not really knowing if Faye had a sense of humor.

"I heard you bought a bus? How's that going?"

Not many of the students were opened to volunteer for anything other than becoming the next generation of X-men. For Anne Lee she knew she was never made to be an X-men so she decided to go check out the X-corp booth set up. Though, X-corp was not appealing to her future endeavors either, at least it held the chance of going off mansion grounds. An added bonus, her brother already volunteered for them. It was her chance to hover and pester her brother like the good sister she was.

Knowing her brother was in the library finishing off his homework before the weekend, Anne Lee went there and pulled him by the arm to where the X-corp booth was. An aura of irritation surrounded her brother which only made her laugh. "Aw, you knew they were coming today so you should be helping in recruiting students like me with nothing to do. Everyone has to know the importance of volunteering for X-corp. They have to," she said half giggling.

As his sister suspected, he was not pleased to be disturbed from his homework. The assignment she pulled him away from was the last one. Afterward he would start asking the other students to check out the X-corp booth. Those he gave tutoring lessons to would have been the first he'd contact. But, of course, his sister always had another idea.

So, when they arrived, he said nothing. Mittens just stood there looking as if he would hiss at the next person who spoke to him. Not much for someone who already volunteered at X-corp.

Anne Lee really wanted to know more information about X-corp. The summoner stared curiously at the papers on the table. Without a word, she then walked over and picked up one of them. Yet, she barely glanced at it. Instead she stared at Faye, the notebook he was scribbling in, then at Edmund, back at Faye, the notebook, then the paper, the notebook again, and finally back at Edmund.

"I'm Anne Lee Austin. This is Mittens Robert Austin," she introduced with a smile filled with curiosity. Whether Edmund knew her brother or not wasn't questioned. She wanted to know all the information she could get about X-corp and how they operated with in the mutant community of Mutant Town. Which was one of the reasons why her glance kept returning to Faye's notebook. "What is X-corp?" Anne Lee asked and then added, "Were you here in April? Not sure if I saw you then or not."

At his sister's mention of April, and whether Edmund had been at the mansion during Apocalypse, he took the paper about X-corp from Anne Lee as a sign that he disapproved of her question. "Nice to see you again Faye," Mittens then said. He was unsure whether to call him Mr. Faye or not. Truth, it surprised him that it was Faye who was doing the recruiting for X-corp at the mansion. The use of his sister's nickname for him as if it were his first name, he ignored it.

Now let it never be said that Sooraya didn’t want to get out of Xaviers for once in a while. Sure it was a lovely place, the people were friendly but for a girl who had grown up being allowed to go wherever she wanted and whenever she wanted (in the name of safety of course), she now found herself a bit, well useless at the school when she wasn’t studying or training. Of course, school field trips that were still on offer were of an entirely close kind, such as trips to mutant town and the sort but Sooraya had decided that she craved a little bit more than that, just a taste of the outside without everything going wrong.

So far the ones that she had legally done in the nearly whole year she had been at the school had ended with an abduction, a near riot and she didn’t even want to think about what had happened last time. No, Sooraya didn’t want everything that she was involved with to go wrong. Hell, the sad fact was that the time that they had all snuck out of the school, she had ended up “grounded” for a month, until they were needed to help fight the hordes of evil that Apocalypse had cast upon the world, and she had messed up that as well, nearly killing herself and Billy in the process. She still bore the scars from that as well, a reminder of her weakness. No, what Sooraya needed was a goal to put her mind off things, and what she had decided that she would like to become was an X-Woman (or was it just X-Man for both genders, she had never been sure to ask). Josh was an X-Man and he was still a year younger than her, so why couldn’t she find a way to do it as well?

Of course, with her track record and unusual power, training sessions were a little harder to fit in but Sooraya wanted so badly to do well at something new for a change. Middle of the class for studies (although Sooraya found it impressive she did so well for someone who spoke English as her third language after Pashto and Dari), better than average at sports but nothing special and she often found it hard to socialise with some people. Feeling slightly out of sync with everyone, Sooraya wanted to do better than she had been. Strong, like she used to be, a good Muslim girl. But if she wanted that, she would have to find someway to do good. Of course, when she saw the table with Mittens and Anne Lee beside it, she was immediately intrigued. The name sounded so official, like X-Factor, maybe they were starting up a new team or something like the sort? Or maybe it was a charity? Sooraya knew that she hadn’t been exactly charitable the last year, after not having much to give, but maybe this would be a step in the right direction forwards.

Walking up to the table, she decided to wait behind the other two, slightly to the side. The long red-haired man she recognised from before, having seen him in the past. Where from, she wasn’t sure but he was defiantly familiar. However the other man, well Sooraya suddenly thought that he looked different than other people, like there was something special about him. She couldn’t place what it was but a strange sensation was running around her stomach, and she felt stupid looking at him, gawping like she was. Of course, no-body could actually tell by the veil but Sooraya burst in a small smile when she saw him. He just looked.. Right in a sort of way that didn’t make sense to her, only that she suddenly imagined that his voice would sound beautiful. Unknown to even Sooraya herself, she was having her first crush.

“Yes.. So I would also be interested in learning about X-Corps as well please, if you don‘t mind”

Faye set down the notebook and pen when Edmund spoke to him, glancing a note he'd written down to speak to Scott Grey-Summers about either working on the bus or having some gear-head students work on it like Jean had suggested. Though with his writing, deciphering that might be less than simple. Even he had a hard time reading his writing at times. Sometimes it was impossible, truth be told.

"Maybe there's a class going or something.." Faye said, shrugging. It was pretty lame that even the few kids that came to volunteer didn't come by. Even the ones that were on a friendly basis with him from his time at the school. What was up with that? Were they irritated with him for moving out or something? Some of the kids at the school seemed to getting a life outside the school, not deciding to be part of the x-men, personally. Like there was no other option in life. Which was lame. Not everyone was suited to the life of the x-men, and ... Edmund had said something else. He smiled at the child labor laws thing. It wasn't bad, though Adrien wasn't laughing. It wasn't that funny. "Guess not.." In a somewhat more serious tone, he added, "Most of the students here are over sixteen, so they should be able to work if they wanted to. And even if they weren't, there's volunteering. A few kids here already do that, maybe that's what they thought this was about.."

The redhead brightened slightly at the mention of the bus. He really needed to talk to Cyclops about it sometime soon. "Yeah. It runs, but.. figured I should have it checked out, make sure nothing's going to fall apart while full of students or something. It was cheap, and I'm not sure why. Jean said something about talking to her husband about working on it. Maybe I'll learn a thing or two.." Anything would be more than he already knew, which was basically giving the things gas, changing tires, and checking the oil. "I wonder if the kids here are scared about leaving the mansion. They're protected here and-" he shut up. Some students were making their way to the table.

"Anne Lee, Robert, this is Edmund," he introduced them, smiling slightly at the way the girl was looking at the notebook. He would have answered Lee's question, but it was directed at Edmund. So instead he nodded to Mittens, and said, "Likewise. Classes going well? Just a year or two left, right? Have you thought about what you're going to be doing after you graduate?" He was pretty sure Mittens wasn't planning on being with the X-Men, though he probably could make it as one if he really did want to. He smiled when Sooraya joined them. They'd met briefly from time to time while he was at the mansion, she was a nice, polite girl.

"Sooraya, isn't it? Edmund, are you going to take this or shall I?" Both of them explaining the same thing at the same time would probably be a bit much. Though he was more than willing to add anything, or answer any questions. The students just seemed more receptive to Lodestone.

Edmund was a little dismayed about the seriousness Adrien liked to show off. But, not everyone was easy going and sociable, but you'd think someone who took over part of X-Corps would at least have that. "Well, at least it runs. Getting it checked out will probably do the old bus justice, especially if it's going to be shipping kids halfway across New York." Edmund said, looking around the vacant room. He thought it was kind of funny that they had a little table all set up. It reminded him of back in highschool during science fairs. All they needed now was a big poster to stand on the table and they'd be set. "I haven't seen Mrs. Grey-Summers for months now. I guess when you've got a company and a school, you got to pick one, right? Maybe she left because of Warren's disappearance..." he finished distantly, then shrugged the thought off.

Lo and behold, as soon as Edmund had finished making comments about the absence of volunteers for X-Corp, a few kids from the mansion found the courage to walk into the room. One of them, Edmund barely recognized as a previous volunteer that helped clean out a building.

"Hello Ms. Austin. Mr. Austin," he said with a nod and a smile after Adrien introduced him to the two children. Before he could actually answer Anne Lee's question, Adrien was already talking to them. Apparently his fellow employee knew the two children and had indulged them with a quick conversation about their schoolwork. That was fine and all, but Edmund wondered if Adrien had any relation to them. It was kind of odd to ask some kids how their schoolwork was going.

Anywho...

Yet another student had appeared, trailing in just behind the Austin siblings. Dressed in a burqa, or maybe that other name for it, she came to stand near the table. He smiled welcomingly, just as he had before with the two siblings.

"Well, I'm sure if you've been down to Mutant Town in the recent months, especially after the, uh, "Apocalypse", you've probably seen some of us working around town. X-Corps is essentially an organization specially contracted for mutants. X-Corps likes to contribute to fund-raisers and festivals that happen in Mutant Town, too. I can spare you the long story about everything X-Corps does and say we do whatever we can to help mutants that need it. Mr. Austin can confirm that, right?" Please be right.

"Hello Edmund," Anne Lee and Mittens said in unison. Mittens would have rather Faye give Edmund's last name than just his first. At least he would have shown the same respect as he gave to him. For Anne Lee, she frowned slightly when Edmund called her 'Ms. Austin.' She would have much preferred 'miss'. Heck, she used 'miss' with all women even if they were married, had kids, or said otherwise. Even so, she did not say her disagreement. Instead, she fell silent as her brother answered Faye's question.

"Yes," Mittens replied not really correcting Faye. If he wanted to, he could probably graduate in the summer. He kept up on his classes and, if he applied himself, could meet the requirements to graduate with a lot more hard work. Since he volunteered regularly and gave tutoring lessons, more work wasn't wanted. So, he would be happy to graduate next year. "My classes are going well enough," he continued with little pause once more not giving any significant detail.

On whether any thought on after high school had been made, he gave no answer. To him college seemed to be something someone else cared about. Maybe if his childhood had been different he would have thought otherwise. However, he did want to be an optometrist and he was sure he needed a degree for that. "Does X-Corp offer internships?" he asked curiously. He had thought about asking Miss Grey-Summers about possibilities for the future like internships and stuff, before.

Sooraya showed up and Anne Lee gave her a small wave and a smile. Anne Lee's eyes were again on the notebook Faye had been writing in. She knew his powers, more-or-less, and was curious if he recorded what he 'saw'. Also, even if he did not, at least that notebook would have something about X-Corp written in it. Now that X-Corp had visited the school in the guise of looking for new volunteers or recruits or whatever, she wanted to know everything about the corporation and what it was about. Everything.

So, she listened carefully to Edmund's reply to Sooraya on what X-Corp was. Then, when Edmund asked for a confirmation, she once again frowned. That's right! Mittens volunteered for X-Corp before. How could she forget (in such a little time) something like that. So, maybe she could use volunteering to get more information. Anne Lee wanted to know stuff. Everything...

After giving a small nod Mittens said, "Yes. X-Corp has been a key in Mutant Town's rebuilding. Volunteers help where needed. It's like a beneficial society where mutants can go for help and feel safe. That they won't be turned away like elsewhere if they have green skin or a second head."

She was so distracted by the second man on the table, clinging to every word that came out of his mouth that Sooraya barely even registered what else they were talking about by the tables, or Faye recognising her for a moment, despite it being the answers to her question that she had asked. Of course, she lapped up the information like a sponge that Edmund said, a blush spreading over her face. Thankfully, no-body could see it underneath the fabric, otherwise she would have had to leave rather swiftly. The Muslim girl never really had to deal with social embarrassment like that before, nor did she want to face it ever if she could help it. But she just couldn’t shift her attentions from the X-Corporation member, as hard as she tried. It was so confusing to her, why was she paying so much attention to him?

“Yes it is Sooraya, thank you for remembering” she replied to the man. But the idea of helping out as a volunteer, especially in mutant town would be a fun endeavour to take part in. After all, everyone wasn’t as lucky as they were in the institute, living for free while training to save the world or control their powers. Being helpful would be a good way of getting extra credit as it were, so she wouldn’t been seen as just a student. She wanted so badly to prove herself to the others that she could be capable and not lose in every fight she got involved in. It was so much easier dealing with humans rather than fighting mutants or demi-gods with their zombie hordes who only wished destruction upon the world. But Sooraya knew that she could handle herself, much better than some of the people in her classes could. She just wanted the chance to prove that she was strong to them all again.

“That does sound like a very good idea, I would love to join up and help out. What do I do to sign up, I think is the term?”she asked, wanting to seem like she was enthusiastic even more than she was in front of the men. This was one of the best ways to make herself useful, and even though she may be going to be doing charitable work for selfish reasons, that did not cancel out the fact that she was being charitable, observing Zakat with good deeds rather than her earnings (she didn’t get anymore than a fixed allowance from the school for luxuries seeing as her family were in no position to help her financially). Having made her mind up to do it, Sooraya had her mind set on working for X-Corporation. If that meant working with this Mr Edmund, well that would only be a bonus for the infatuated Sooraya.

Maybe Faye ought've been a little less serious-minded, but he was strange like that. Serious about things people didn't take note of, and blithe about things that people tended to make a big deal of. Or something like that. He didn't make a practice of psycho-analyzing himself. It wasn't much fun, in his opinion. "Yeah, Jean's really busy here," Faye agreed. "I have no idea how she managed both the school and X-Corp as long as she did, y'know?"

And that was when the kids showed up, and Faye chatted to them. Honestly, Lee was eighteen and Mittens was, what, seventeen or something? They still looked like kids. Anyway. He'd gotten a somewhat strange reaction from his greeting and introduction, from the younger one. Eh. Still standoffish, it seemed, but he was a good kid. Or, he assumed that he was. He was more of a friend of a friend than anything. "Internships? If we don't already, that can change," he replied to Robert. They didn't have anyone currently interning, he was pretty sure, however he didn't see why they couldn't.

Adrien was more than a little amused at the amount of attention Lee had on his notebook. She wanted to get a look at it. She hadn't changed much either, it seemed. Well, it was only like a year or so. Why was he surprised that things were so unchanged? The redhead listened to the explanations and questions, and everything mentioned was true. X-Corp was mostly a volunteer organization to help out mutants. However, it had been originally meant to be more than what it currently was. A few moments after they said their pieces, he decided to let them in on it. "X-Corp is also meant to help in emergency relief efforts, whether the cause of the disaster is natural, human, or mutant. Our focus is Mutant Town, presently, because, honestly, they need it... and until recently, we haven't had the financial backing among other things. That's... changing." Yes, he was pleased about that. Very. Things were moving along nicely. This was precisely why Jean nudged him toward X-Corp, he was sure.

“That does sound like a very good idea, I would love to join up and help out. What do I do to sign up, I think is the term?” Sooraya asked enthusiastically. Faye smiled and gestured to a sheet of paper on the table for just that purpose, names and contact information. It was still quite empty. "... did you get one of our cards? It has our contact information on it. We'll have transportation available, so don't worry about that..."
