March, 5th Afternoon He had worked extra special on this small lunch that he was carrying within a sealed platter. The meal consisted of a few dishes the students always requested him to cook, a halved pizza sandwich, side-dish of Cesar salad, and a wicked amazing mint tea kept within a sealable cup. Walking at a strong, but careful pace he made his way to the garage, he had seen the mechanic only a few times and decided it was time he got to know the guy as he seemed to keep to himself. The trees were beautiful and the road was perfectly flat, a smooth drive if one were in a vehicle. Nearing the garage he began to clear his through with a few focused coughs, he just hoped things went well as he didn't exactly like to make enemies with those who didn't really know. Coming to the garage he saw that the garage doors were closed, pausing he knocked on one of them and spoke clearly hoping the mechanic was her, "Lucius are you in there?" Biting his lip he sighed after waiting a bit with no reply, about to leave the platter near the door and walk off until he heard the door slide open. ooc; sorry short :S |

Not long had passed since the incident at the alleyway, from that moment on Lucius had been at the Institute. Xavier’s School for the Gifted, nothing more than a safe haven for mutants and where they could learn how to control their so called gifts. This was a man that still wasn’t convinced in any sort of way by those around him, choosing to avoid and ignore any contact with those at the School. Most of his time was spent in his room or at the garage where he worked on the students vehicles, he didn’t even use the gym which was something he would have too sooner or later. Instead of that he blew off his steam by working out at the garage itself, truth be told very rarely anyone went there unless they were going somewhere. The only one who went there the most was actually Mr. Summers, although he had his reasons to check on one of their new guests. On every morning he woke up as early as he usually did before, this time not to train but simply to avoid the crowd. The moment the cafeteria was ‘open’ sort of speak he was already there, taking anything he would need for most of the day. Sandwiches and other similar types of food, things that he could carry without much fuss were his preferred items. It was a shame that he had to leave his former place of work, he sorely missed his friends there. Always joking and horsing around, doing their work of course but that didn’t mean they couldn’t have some fun. Listening to their music and sometimes even singing to one another, mostly as a jest. Like Quincy who thoroughly enjoyed listening to “Wild Cherry”, their one time hit, “Play That Funky” and continuously sing the chorus to the Brit. It was interesting to see that change of pace about him, he preferred being alone but now he missed those two men. It was funny how he was in a place surrounded by his own and felt more alone than he ever had, of course it was simply his own personal choice but it was still odd. Mutants weren’t exactly his forte and seeing so many in one place gave him a cold chill at times, with some looking perfectly normal while others were simply...Mutants. With their obvious physical differences, some being green, others more feral than man themselves. They were quite accustomed to this environment but Edwards sure as hell wasn’t. That day had been like all the others, boring and uneventful with Luc now tweaking a Ford Mustang which seemed to be leaking fuel all over the place. It was nothing out of the ordinary since it was an old model, although it was kept in tip top shape. Most likely a fuel line had been torn somehow and needed to be replaced, as he was bellow this popular car he suddenly heard someone knocking on the garage door which he usually kept closed. Luc wasn’t expecting anyone to come by at that time but maybe they just needed to get their car and go for a ride or something. It didn’t matter and the British man simply rolled off from bellow the car, using a nearby rag to clean his hands that were more than a little filthy. Lucius wasn’t exactly in his most illustrious time of day, with some dirty overalls and oil marks on his face. He had never cared about it though, it was just something that happened almost too often when working around cars most of the day. He had heard some muffled voice from the other side of the door but couldn’t quite place it, walking towards the garage door still cleaning his hands with the dirty rag. As he approached the button that opened the entry to his workplace he tossed it over to a nearby counter and pressed the damned thing. With the door now sliding open he could see someone standing there but it was sliding rather slowly. Apparently it was the cook holding a sealed platter, what he was doing there however he had no idea, never before had he set foot at the garage. “Is there something I can help you with mate?” he asked with a clear hint of suspicion in his voice, his face a bit frowned as he spoke. ((OOC: It’s all good.)) |

He offered a smile as he saw Lucius. Listening to the fellow mutant's question he slowly reached his hands out, still holding the platter. "Not really Lucius...just brought you lunch and thought we could talk a bit if that's possible?" What would they talk about though? Pausing he let his mind trail off, he more than likely would start the conversation by asking how Lucius got to the school and what brought him here. Maybe then ask about his past a bit before asking why he avoids everybody at the school, which is what he had seen so far. Coming back to reality he continued to smile and spoke a few more words, "The meal consists of some of my best cooks..." ooc; short again, next one will be longer, it's a bit early here XD |

Despite the way he greeted his fellow staff member he was given a sincere smile, which was troubling and good to see at the same time. It reminded him a bit of Ernest that smiled even when Luc was on his foulest mood, it was truly unsettling but liberating at the same time. As Chase’s hands were held out holding a platter, the Brit’s brow raised slightly not really sure what to say. It was most unexpected to see such an act of kindness being brought upon him, even after being such an ass to nearly everyone around him. Edwards knew he wasn’t the easiest person to get along with, especially when he was suspicious but this had certainly caught him off guard. “Thank you, you shouldn’t have but I believe we can do that,” he spoke a bit uncertain about all of this, motioning for Chase to follow him. Heading for the nearest counter at his right, he rested against it looking at the man. “I’m sure they are, I’ve seen quite a few of them back at the cafeteria, you have some talent with it,” Luc complimented the unforeseeable guest. It wasn’t his way to act around others, certainly not of his own kind but being utterly rude when someone appeared to be nice just didn’t seem right. Still he wasn’t quite sure what the cook of all people would want to talk with him about, perhaps he had his vehicle that needed fixing or something of the sort. Alas he hadn’t mentioned it in the first place so that might not be the case whatsoever. A most peculiar case was presented before the Brit, no doubt about it. “Did Mr. Summers put you up to this?” Lucius asked curiously but also suspiciously since it was a bit odd for him to see this all of a sudden. He didn’t quite remember them ever exchanging words, perhaps a good morning or something of the like but not much else. “By the way, you know my name but I don’t know yours...” he added shortly afterwards. |

Following Lucius to the nearest counter he quickly placed the platter down before listening to Lucius speak. Offering a kind expression and another smile he replied to Lucius's statement about Chase's own cooking. "Thanks...means a lot." An odd silence then followed before Lucius began to speak again, raising his eyebrows in surprisement and slight shock he laughed slightly as he shook his head. "No, Mr. Summers did not. I just see you every now and then and not usually with other people so I thought I'd come offer you some company. No one should always be alone." Opening his ears to listen to Lucius speak once more he laughed once more to the mechanic's words. He himself did find it odd that he knew Lucius's name and Lucius didn't know Chase's. Offering another smile he replied, "Apologies, my name is Chase, Chase Clave.." Continuing to smile he turned to the platter and removed the top, placing it beside the platter plate. Pointing to each dish he smirked and spoke on what they were. "That's a pizza sandwich, quite cheesy and deliscous as the students say. Now this is a side-dish of Cesar salad, not sure if you'll like it, but some of the students and even staff say it's their favorite. Now this I would have to say is my best cook, a nice mint tea." Grabbing the cup he removed it's sealing lid and placed it aside and outstretched his arm to hand the cup of amazing tea to Lucius. |

So apparently this was all of his own doing, with no one putting him up to somehow soften Edwards usually difficult persona. He was right, no one should ever be always alone although this was something to which Luc had become quite accustomed with over the years . If it weren’t for Ernest and Quincy this feeling of lonesome he now had would be rather welcomed with open arms, alas now it was not the case anymore. This man definitely reminded him of Ernest in a way, although he had his differences about him, constantly showing a bright smile and laughing most of the time were some of their similarities. So his name was Chase Clave apparently, the cook for the school which meant he was also most likely a mutant himself. For a moment Luc wondered what manner of abilities he had, since after all everyone seemed to have a different mutation from the others. For now he would let his curiosity slide and not ask anything about it, instead opting to listen to him explaining what he had brought with him. Nice choice of dishes, although at this time Edwards was growing increasingly tired of the American’s pizzas and burgers. He didn’t let it show however, since he was too hungry to reject anything at that particular moment. Not that he would either after it being brought to him in such a nice gesture. The mint tea on the other hand was a pleasant surprise and that he was definitely interested in trying out. Without little thought he grabbed the cup which Chase was giving him. “Thank you,” he responded with a nod of his head. Wanting to truly savour this supposedly delicious cup of tea, Luc first brought it close to his nose and smelled it to get a whiff of its aroma. It smelled rather good and for what it seemed Mr. Clave wasn’t lying when he said it was one of his finest talents. As he slowly sipped the liquid letting it fall down on his tongue, the raw flavour of mint was ever present but was incredibly enticing to anyone who appreciated these kinds of things. Anyone from the United Kingdom would most likely applaud this one. “It’s rather good, I see you were not bragging about this one, Chase,” Luc stated looking at the man beside him and giving him another nod. “So for how long have you been here?” he added shortly afterwards still with the cup in his hand, savouring his drink. |

Watching Lucius take the tea with a thank you and a nod. Nodding and smirking slightly he watched as Lucius seemingly began to savor the tea as one with elegance, a good pallet, or respect would. First Lucius had taken in the scent of the tea, which put Chase on his toes slightly, hoping that when Lucius took a drink that he wouldn't be disappointed. Once Lucius began to sip the tea and didn't show a disgust or discomforting look he smiled and rested easily on flat feet once more. Letting his eyes go wild he took on the interior of the garage. It was nicely kept for a car garage, little to no stains on the floor, which was a shocker. Once Lucius began to speak again though he turned his gaze to the mechanic and listened with hearing ears. Smiling to the compliment he nodded in thanks before responding. "Thank you Lucius." A simple question followed from Lucius vocals to Chase's ears. Face going normal he answered quickly. "Only for a few weeks, I believe a month next week. It's a nice change compared to running a muck as one of those "Converted"...or trying to live a normal life and having my abilities flare up randomly. Being here has helped me prevent my abilities from flaring up randomly." Taking a pause he offered a weak smile, slightly embarrassed. Shaking his head slightly he began to speak again. "You see, I accidentally flooded one of my friend's houses with my power, which is Mud Manipulation and Generation, about a month ago. He almost died...luckily I was able to get a hold of an Ambulance over the phone quickly, but I fled, I was scared...." |

For what it seemed the cook hadn’t been here for long either, Luc certainly wasn’t expecting that. The mention of a “Converted” however did spark his curiosity, he knew nothing about that particular subject, the simple word made him frown a bit. What sort of abilities did he have to need the school so badly, he looked a very normal kind of person for Edwards. Apparently the conversation had made him slightly uneasy, or at least it so seemed to the Brit who was looking at him still with the cup in his hand taking small sips. “I beg your pardon? You create mud, did I hear that right?” he asked almost instantly to Chase’s speech about how his powers could be a nuisance. It was very strange to hear something like that come up in a conversation, but then again this was Xavier’s School for the Gifted. After all of the things that he had seen firsthand and would have never believed it if he hadn’t, this was absolutely nothing but still. “But you say you can control this right? I’m not in any danger of having this place filled up with mud, correct?” Luc asked this time a bit more jokingly as he took another sip. “Now that’s something I would have never expected to hear in my life, but I suppose there could be even weirder things,” he added a bit absent from the conversation. “But I’m glad to hear that your friend got out of it all right, would have been a shame if he hadn’t,” Edwards stated now a bit more seriously placing the cup on the counter. “I would have run away as well, there’s nothing to be embarrassed over. Hell, I ran away for a great deal of my life, also ending up here, whatever this is,” Lucius said to Chase holding his hands with their palms upwards in a clear gesture of confusion. “But there’s something I didn’t quite get, what did you mean with being a “Converted”? I don’t understand...” |

He watched Lucius's reaction and gave a worried look, how was the mechanic going to react? Well Lucius asked about something Chase hadn't thought he would. "Yeah...it's a bit more complicated then just /making mud/ though. So far I've shown ability to use my power offensively and defensively quite efficiently." Pausing he gave a look to the ground before folding his arms in a worrisome manner. Tightening his arms he looked back up in response to Lucius's second question. "Yeah, I have control over it now..." In reality though he feared that a fluctuation towards the emotions of anger or sadness would trigger misfire with his powers or all together a loss of control. Offering a nod and a worried attempt at a smile towards Lucius's laughter he listened on still. He nodded once more to Lucius's next statement, "I guess..." The conversion turned almost serious it seemed with Lucius's next statement. "So am I, haven't had much contact with him since then though." Looking away once more he attempted to shake of grief. His next words made him turn his attention towards Lucius once more though. "This place, it's a haven, a safe haven for the lost, it's a great place, accepts us mutants with open arms, not many if any other places do that.." Pausing he listened to Lucius again, was he being serious? Had Lucius been ignorant to the entire Apocalypse thing? Titling his head to the side slightly he began to speak, "Are you serious? You mean you didn't see the streets fill with black figures, killing and changing others into them? Those of us mutants who were changed came to be known as "Converts" or the "Converted", our powers? Well they were boosted greatly...battles raged at key places, until a massive battle took place somewhere in Egypt. And the good-guys won, saving us "Converted" from a down spiral into darkness." Pausing he gave Lucius a worried look before continuing, "Those of us who survived fled with the some of the good-guys, those good-guys coming from this same Institute. The people here are selfless, they care so much for others, and I thank each of them everyday from saving me and everyone else..." |

It seemed that the flow of the conversation was taking a bad turn, as if the current rocked the boat a little too much. Chase didn’t seem at ease as much as the Brit would have expected from what he had seen from him already. It was understandable however, Luc could certainly relate to his state of mind. He had guessed it was much more intricate than simply creating mud out of nothing but the thought was still odd to imagine. Even though Chase said he could control it there was something in the way he responded that made Lucius worry a bit. Not that he would flood the entire place with that substance but because he had seen that look before in someone’s eyes. Every time he looked in the mirror anyway. The way he reacted so defensively over what he had said about the Institute surprised him slightly, it wasn’t that he didn’t like it, he was just not accustomed to it yet. Still he couldn’t help but smirk at the safe haven for the lost bit, surely fit like a glove in his mind. Without much thought he grabbed the pizza sandwich and took a bite, he was after all quite hungry by now and the smell of the food was enticing. It had a nice flavour to it, the way it complemented each ingredient with the other was very nicely done. The mint tea with it however was a pure waste, much better with some scones. Apparently this whole “Converted” thing was about Apocalypse, just that topic of discussion that Luc was most uncomfortable with. He still remembered that night in London when all hell broke loose, all the screaming and all the blood on the streets. Edwards didn’t remember fighting things like those described by Chase, they seemed almost supernatural but then again, fighting a horde of zombies could also be considered the same. “I don’t watch the tele mate and I never cared much about that whole thing. I had my fair share back at home, I was in London when things went sour and tried putting everything behind me when I left,” he said very seriously pointing the sandwich in Chase’s direction. “If you don’t mind I would really prefer to avoid talking about that particular subject. I wasn’t aware that the people here at the school had anything to do with it and I can honestly say I don’t care,” Luc added a bit briskly unintentionally. Placing the sandwich down on the platter again he took two steps forward and turned to face the cook. “Look mate, there’s a lot that I don’t know and this can be a bit overwhelming to say the least. I have only been here a few days and I’m not too fond of people like me, mutants. From what I’ve seen I’m guessing you’re right, these people seem to be all that you say but I’m not making my full assessments just yet,” Edwards stated in a dignified tone, trying to smooth things out. After all he knew how much of a douche he could sometimes be. |
