Time of day: 1:57 PM
Place in the time-line: March 15. One week since Anan first arrived at the Institute

When Human interaction seems to be insufficient there is always Plant Life, the trees with their wisdom, slow and patient. Flowers with their optimism and youthful personality, like children filled with questions.
Most of Anan's time was spent outside the mansion, he easily got tired of being coped up indoors, it made him feel ill to be without sunlight for too long. Anan was still relatively new to the Institute, only really knowing some of the staff, for the most part he had been avoiding most people, still not yet comfortable being there, he needed to lay his roots in.

There was one particular rose that Anan had stuck a conversation with, near the entrance of the mansion, their discussion on mutants had gotten so intense that Anan took a seat on the cool grass, not worried about getting grass stains on his brown highwaters, it was an absolutely lovely day, clear skies, warm sun beaming on his dark sink. He wore just a white t-shirt and a vest over it, allowing his arms to breathe and take in sun. It was one of those rare occasions that Anan wasn't wearing a rustic looking hat, he let his wild purplish hair run wild, having not straightened it in a day or two so it was beginning to curly up and puff out, Anan wasn't really worried about it though, it was all natural.

"Yes, Maybe I am weird looking...but at least I have not thorns!" he replied in a yell, his English still not perfect. Anan's conversation before hand had been mostly whispers, seeing as if you are talking to loudly to yourself people start to think you maybe a little off. The rose had stated that Anan was a strange looking young man, not at all attractive at all, this rose was a bit rude, most roses were; he surely would never give a rose to a women, and whomever started this tradition was ignorant.

"Fine, fine. Are you done bothering me?" The rose said in almost a hiss, obviously their conversation was done with, gosh some flowers were just so rude, maybe Anan would pick that rose and give to someone as a gift, teach that rose to be mean.

Anan picked himself off the ground and began to wander forth, aimlessly. He supposed he was doing his job as Gardener, going around making sure each flower looked nice and in good health, all the trees were lusciously filled with leaves and of course the grass was as green as can be, the mansion was already in top notch maintenance but Anan could sure had a little more green and beauty to the landscape, and this was hardly a job for him, it was his daily life.

The day was cold, yet sun filled, near perfect weather. Anan found it hard to believe that New York had such wonderful weather all the time, compared to Africa, it was heavenly. Nothing green ever grew in Africa, the sun was so intense there, it made Anan feel wilted and tired. Here, in New York, Anan was refreshed and at full bloom. This made him more energetic then usual, carefree and fancy feet, something like.

It had taken her a few years before she started to hear the whisper of the trees. Avery's first year spent at the institute she had been very hesitant to use her gifts, very much afraid of them and the possible damage that could she could do. As time went by, she became more comfortable in her own skin and accepted with some of the things that came with having such a gift. Everything came a bit easier after that. She could hear the plants speak to her(even thought she didn’t talk back until much later), she could feel their change in the seasons and then Black Tom came along and because of his special abilities and perhaps the strange link they shared; she could suddenly sense his presence too.

But today, it wasn't quite like that. Today she felt a feeling of rejuvenation out there. Even down deep in the infirmary she could sense it. Perhaps it was because she had spent so much time there that she was familiar with every blade of grass, every shrub should feel like. Though nothing was amiss she had to as who was the cause of it. Quickly she scribbled down a back in fifteen minutes note and stuck it on the infirmary door, along with her signature and the time. If anything catastrophic happened, she did have her pager clipped at her side and could be contacted.

Stepping out into the gardens, she pulled her jacket tightly around her. It was a gorgeous day, the sun was beating down warmly and the sky was clear and blue, but the wind still carried a whisper of the winter that had just melted away and Avery could certainly feel it. Her violet eyes scanned the grounds and she wandered, taking in how all the plant life looked as if they were in full swing and seeking out the cause of their sudden growth. She had heard of a new member who had joined them but perhaps a week ago, one who was also gifted with a plant related ability, but Avery had yet to meet him. Goodness, not for the like of her could she remember his name, only that he was indeed a he, and he was tall and dark skinned with…

…Purple hair. It was not hard to miss along with his height. Even from a distance she could hear him speaking to a certain ill tempered rose that didn’t receive him well at all. Avery however, did not approach, merely observing him and seeing if she could get a ‘feel’ for him like she had with Tom. No…She picked up nothing from their new member. Well, no matter. She was simply curious.

And speaking of her curiosity, she suddenly realized that she wasn’t sure how the approach the man, or what to say just out of the blue. If he happened to turn around right at this moment, he would come to find the green skinned nurse practically spying on him. With this little worry in her mind she had no choice but to quickly speak up. Besides, he was new around here. He would probably find comfort in meeting a fellow mutant with a green thumb. ….No pun intended.

“Don’t take what that one says to heart,” She called out to him in her usual gentle tones as she strode towards Anan. It felt so weird to speak to others about ‘plant conversations’ as Avery rarely did it. “That one always tends to be a wee bit cranky around the beginning of spring.”

She extended her hand up to the tall, lanky man when she was within reach. “Hi….I’m Avery Doyle, school nurse. I also have a gift for plants.” Her violet eyes swept the grounds once more. “You’ve done a nice job out here.”

The institute had a lot of plant life, lots to tend to but Anan didn't find his job stress, not even the least bit. If anything he found it to be a healthy work out for his abilities, Ana had had his powers for sometime now but he had never really been properly trained, his abilities were self taught, he had a good idea of what his limits were, telepathic link with plant life, manipulation, and control. There was one thing Anan couldn't do, creation, he held doubts that he would ever gain the ability to create plant life from nothing, this he was okay with though.

Anan came across an old maple tree looking as if it was struggling to come into full swing, it's arms branches were beginning to droop slightly and it's leaves dried out and few. "Let's perk you up, yes," Anan said to the tree as he place his large hand on trunk, he could almost hear the tree groaning. With his eyes closed he began to give the tree new life, restoring the old maple tree. The changes were were vast, it's dried out leaves were now luscious and green, it's arm like branch perking up, looking strong and healthy. Anan took a step back and smiled, admiring the beauty of nature.

“Don’t take what that one says to heart,”

It was then Anan heard a voice behind him, initially believing the voice to have come from a flower or some other type of plant life. Anan turned around, a smile still on his face, certainly not expecting to see the X-men, Avery. Anan jerked slightly in surprise, her appearance catching him off guard, She was very green! Anan closely paid attention, he couldn't help but stare at first, he certainly had never seen a mutant like her. Suddenly a wide smile appeared on his face.

“Hi….I’m Avery Doyle, school nurse. I also have a gift for plants.”

"You can talk to plants?!" Anan hoped Avery would forgive his overwhelming excitement, the young man had never before met another mutant with similar abilities to his own, it made Anan feel a little more..normal? Anan took Avery's hand with both of his, shaking it quickly, a little longer then an average hand shake; the excitement still flooding Anan. "Oh, oh, yes, thank you much! Anan said with a slight bow as he let go of Avery's hand. It was pretty obviously by the way Anan spoke, that he wasn't from around those part at all. His accent was strange, similar to a British but less clear, not to mention his sometimes broken English.

In all the excitement Anan realized he had yet to introduce himself, how silly of him. Taking a step back, Anan stood tall and announced himself, "I am Anan Oluwafunmilayo, I am new to here," Anan tend to be very animated when he spoke, pointing to himself and then to his location when explain he was a newcomer. He realized his name was a bit complex, he fully expected for no one to remember his last name, it did just tend to sound like gibberish in English. "Call me, Anny? Okay! Good!" Anan gave Avery a thumbs up and nodded, obviously just happy to have some sort of human life form to talk to, things were starting to get a tad lonely.

The mere fact that the voice belonged to someone of flesh and blood surprised him. It was apparent that he was expecting the voice to belong to some sort of vegetation or another, but even as he stared at her a bit, his smile didn’t leave his face. On the contrary, it grew wider after a moment. Though she knew that look that passed his eyes, it was almost the same for everyone who met her for the first time. She smiled politely back at him, her head tilted ever so slightly before she step forward to introduce herself.

"You can talk to plants?!" His enthusiasm was nearly overwhelming, Avery no longer used to such sudden bursts of excitement, especially when first meeting someone. The tall cholorokinetic was more interested in their common ground than her name or the praise she had given him. Or at least, it took him a moment for it to click as he took Avery’s slender hand and cupped it in the two of his much larger ones, shaking it vigorously. Had there been any onlookers at the time, they would’ve seen the eleven nurse, slightly tugged forward in his grasp and nearly being shook to pieces. It was rather amusing and Avery continued to smile as the handshake continued and he thanked her for her compliment.

Finally he let her go and gave the slightest of bows as Avery resisted taking a quick glance down at her hand, knowing full well it wasn’t shaken off. She wasn’t quite sure where he was from; the place escaped her mind as did his name. However, she did note some sort of British undertones but it was plainly obvious that he wasn’t from that area, not only from his accent but because English was certainly not his native language. She wasn’t one to judge upon speaking properly though, as it was obvious still that Avery wasn’t an American and there were still certain words that she pronounced differently because of her Newfoundland upbringings.

"I am Anan Oluwafunmilayo, I am new to here," Anan introduced himself as he pointed to his chest. Avery nodded, since he was trying his best to make sure she understood him for his English was a little choppy. The way he worded things was quirky and cute in a way and she couldn’t help but smile broadly. "Call me, Anny? Okay! Good!"

“Okay, okay,” She agreed with a nod. “Anny it is. It has a nice ring to it…and you’re last name is certainly a bit of a mouthful.” She clasped her hands loosely in front of her as she spoke, a little bit of a nervous habit of not knowing what do with her hands when she wasn’t wearing her image inducer, which she often played with. “Are you finding things okay here? …You’re liking it here, are you?” She rephrased, hoping that she didn’t lose him with the many ways things could be phrased in English.

Time had been…stressful and frustrating lately. There was a whole new load of worries in addition to the troubles that already bothered it. It was refreshing to see such a happy face, it made her forget (or at least distracted her for a bit) about the current strife that was bothering her. Even Avery needed some cheering up now and again and this new member of theirs seemed to have a natural talent for it.

Another class done, another wilting debate fought against minds that really couldn't care less. The students in his Politics class seemed to want to rebel against knowledge, armed with titanium coated locks on their minds that as a teacher Kyle had to struggle to get to open. He wondered if sometimes more harm then good was being done. The youth of Xaviers lived and worked and slept and ate alongside the X-men, and most of the teens seemed more inclined to hearing about tales of Moon battles and robot soldiers then of the mundane workings that was Government. He often had to remind them that while the X-men did great things, important necessary things, it was through workings of government and getting laws and bills past that the true future of Mutants would be decided. The workings of the real world were often times far less glamorous and ten times more severe then the happenings on a battle field. Battles effected those in them, legislature effected everyone in the country and precedent effected the world. Still in a contest for interest between Ruth Bader-Ginsburg or Wolverine as far as kids were concerned the feral with the metallic claws won the fight. The only problem was a Ruth Bader-Ginsburg had far more say in the shaping of the world then Logan did, but try telling that to a room of kids who only saw razor claws and high jumps. The astonishing beat the boring, and calling a spade a spade Kyle knew politics was boring to almost everyone but him.

As the bell rang dismissing the students, the young teacher made a dash to the kitchen grabbed a carrot for a snack and headed outside the stuffy walls to clear his head in the open air and lush scenery of the grounds, Sometimes you needed a ceiling large enough that your thoughts couldn't hit the roof and sometimes you just needed to be away from the things that you loved but were simultaneously driving you crazy. So much was weighing heavy on his mind; Scott's recent personality switch, everything the Brotherhood had been up to, and not to mention dealing with the ramifications of a quickie Vegas wedding where apparently the only thing really present had been the booze. Everything was chaotic, and to someone that cherished structure and balance it seemed as if the sky was indeed falling.

He munched on the carrot slowly aimlessly walking and halfheartedly hoping the solution to everything that was eating him would just appear in his head. By actively not thinking of an answer the polarity mover hoped one would come. Hell, if there had been a wizard around to visit Kyle would have sought him out for a solution. At this point he was open to any idea. Stumbling upon the green hued nurse involved in a talk with a hyper new person he hadn't met yet at the school he figured it was his duty to but in. Parts of the conversation was drifting into his ears as he walked towards them, and he realized as he drew closer that what they were talking about was indeed more confusing then any jumbled thought in his head.

"Hey" he said to them both as he walked to where they had assembled. "Sorry to but in but whats all the jive about talking plants I couldn't help but overhear. Is the garden having its own west side story? Are the roses the sharks, and the tulips the Jets?" He started laughing at the silliness of his own statement and then two seconds too late realized he had walked into a serious discussion and not one being played for laughs. It seemed the new comer had an affinity for plant life and vegetation. Becoming aware that he was munching down on something the stranger might consider a friend or precious thing in the circle of life Kyle quickly stashed the contraband carrot behind his back with one hand while extending the other to greet the latest addition to their group.

"How goes it man? I'm Kyle by the way, I teach Political Science around here and yes its as boring as it sounds." He gave the newcomer a friendly smiled, and tried his best not to call attention to any of the shocking things about the mans person like his purple hair or jubilant expression. Xaviers welcomed all kinds, and many flavors made the soup the young X-man guessed.

Anan was practically gitty with excitement, never the type to hold back on expressing their emotions. As far back as Anan could remember he had been a very emotional person, easily expressing how he felt at the moment, sometimes even to the point where he seemed over the top; He was a big man with a bigger heart bursting with feelings, good and bad.
It was rare to see Anan not smiling, it was as if a smile was permanently glued to the young man's face, his mother had always encouraged him to smile as a child, the habit just seemed to stick.

…and you’re last name is certainly a bit of a mouthful.”

Something about her sentence caused Anan to burst out in a sheepish laugh, loud and high pitched. In his head it was much funnier then intended, he had a mental image of someone talking with there mouthful and of course to Anan that was just hilarious, he tend to have the sense of humor of a kindergarten.

Anan's head nodded up and down much like a bobble head doll, indicating that he was finding things to be more then okay. "I love it! It so...uhm, loveliful! Much!" It was then Anan had created a new word just to describe Xavier's Institute, Of course Anan didn't realized he had invented a word, he was pretty sure it must have already been in the English dictionary. Loveliful: Something that is both 'lovely' and 'beautiful'.

Off in the distant Anan could see a man with a carrot, at that moment Anan thought to himself how delicious a carrot sounded, he had had a big breakfast so wasn't necessary hungry but he was never one to pass up food. Anan had talked to many a plants in his life time, bushes and lilies, tress and roses but never a carrot...or any vegetable. The thought of talking to a pea before he ate it frankly was alittle scary, like eating a human alive. Anan's best explanation for this was that most grocery bought vegetation was already long dead, the equivalent of buying a pound of beef.

" Sorry to but in but whats all the jive about talking plants I couldn't help but overhear. Is the garden having its own west side story? Are the roses the sharks, and the tulips the Jets?" Anan kept a smile and laughed as the man laughed, though it was almost obvious that Anan had no clue as to what Kyle was talking about, Anan figured it would be rude of him not to laugh at the man's joke. "Hi man, Kyle! I am Anan Oluwafunmilayo! I am not from here." for the second time Anan introduced himself in the same fashion, hand motions and all. Anan stepped forward to Kyle and extend his hand outward but high, feeling that it was more traditional American to give another man a high five, that's what they did in all the movies, afterall. Political science sounded very interesting to Anan, even though he wasn't really sure what that was. He figured something to do with Politics...and Science? Neither of which Anan had much knowledge in, he was an Art major, Politics seemed far too complicated.

"I love it! It so...uhm, loveliful! Much!"

She smiled and nodded to his reply, glad that he seemed to be doing okay there as a new arrival. ‘Loveliful.’ Rally, how cute was that? Well at least he seemed happy enough with is big white smile and excited and extravagant gestures.

"Good…good. I'm glad. And if you ever need anything at all just ask. I can be found down in the infirmary most of the time".

A voice soon called out and Avery turned her head to see Kyle approaching. Not surprising he let off one of his little (semi lame) jokes that she had become sort of fond of. Next to Hank and Josh, Kyle was the closest Avery as a friend, almost close enough to be like an older brother. They fought and carried on as siblings do, but at the end of the day they cared about each other just like family did and that counted for a lot. Oddly enough, there was something about Kyle that allowed Avery to vent her angers and frustrations to him, or more to the case, upon him. She couldn’t bring herself to do this around anyone else, so in a way, Kyle’s friendship was a godsend to Avery her tendencies to bottle things up.

Now while Kyle’s little jokes didn't always tickle Avery, Anan seemed to like of very much. Chuckling loudly he even made Avery start to grin as Kyle began to realize that the two were having an honest conversation about talking to plants. Anan sure saved him from an awkward moment and Avery helped along by letting out a little laugh, swinging out her hand to playfully smack him in the stomach. "Oh hush you," she said as she barley tapped him.

Avery allowed the two men to get more aquatinted as Kyle introduced himself and explained what he taught at the institute to Anan. With an extra bit of chipper enthusiasm, Anan raised his hand high in an odd ‘high five’ fashion, introducing himself. It was a little odd, but he was after all new to the country. Meanwhile, Avery’s violet eyes darted to the carrot that from her angle she could see that Kyle was somewhat concealing from them both. Nimbly she slipped it from his grasp and took a bite for herself as if she had done nothing wrong.

“I get to call him Anny,” Avery said with a nod to Kyle as a side note, noticing that he didn’t offer him the same easy nickname to remember. She smirked at Kyle and took another bit of the pilfered carrot and added. “I think it’s cute.”

“Anny here is our new gardener,” She informed Kyle, with a wave of the carrot to point out Anan’s handiwork. With a smile, she then nodded in acknowledgment to Anan and added. “I think he’s doing well for his…You’ve only been here a week now, haven’t you.” Avery had heard of him the day he arrived, but now couldn’t recall even what country he was from. “Where is it again that you came from?”

Xaviers never failed to surprise. Either in student or faculty or even X-Men, variety really was the name of the game. He greeted the the new gardener with a smile as the energetic man decreed he wasn't from around the local parts and cemented this fact by going with a high five instead of the traditional handshake. Not wanting to make the newcomer feel awkward Kyle went along high-fiving the new resident, and realized he hadn't engaged in something like that in a long while, at least not sober anyways. Anan's vibrant personality and energy stood out to the young X-man more then anything. He realized it had been awhile since he had met anyone who seemed to be purely happy. Being jaded, stressed, even overwhelmed seemed to come with the territory of being one of the good guys. Doing the right thing never seemed to spare anyone the stress of the situation, all the burdens and none of the glory it seemed. To meet someone who didn't seem touched by any of that was almost like finding a extinct species of some strange foreign tribe. Happiness had become almost a luxury that wasn't readily available or easily nor freely obtained.

Stealthily the green nurse swiped the half eaten carrot he was hiding behind his back and took it for her own. He laughed as she began eating it herself and introduced the gardener and how she would call him Anny. With Avery there was an ease with things. She was like the sister he never had, and over time the plant manipulator had become dear to him when she wasn't driving him to fits of anger or vice versa. It was a strange dynamic they seemed to share but it worked.

"I went through a lot of trouble to get that you know. Hank was positioned in front of the fridge, like it was the last station in a desert. Have you ever tried to move a round a blue beast to get to the stashed good, its not easy I tell you. Ignore the vegetable thief her Anan, Avery has a want, take have, mentality. She just looks innocent that's all."

He smiled at the green nurse teasing her. Jibes at Avery were nearly second nature, it was easy to kid someone you cared about. It required a trust that somehow the two X-men had formed.

“Where is it again that you came from?”

"Yeah, man" he chimed in following Avery's train of thought. "What brings you to Xaviers?"

"Mr. Leersonnn, wait!" Melody tried to get her teachers attention after class, but by the time she got out the door of the classroom, he was gone from that hall. Dammit. She'd wanted to ask him something. Well not exactly ask, so much as tell, and not so much about the class. Well it was about the class. It was... he seemed really stressed. Frustrated. He'd been excited to teach, starting off, it seemed, but it was like he was going to implode or something from the stress now. She didn't really like him, he hadn't made the greatest first impression on her what with lecturing her about being late on her very first day at the mansion, but she was a bit worried.

It wasn't like the students were that much more disinterested in Political Science than their other classes. He needed to relax about it or he was going to give himself an ulcer. Or, really, implode. That wasn't entirely out of the realms of possibility, right?

Sighing, she went outside. She'd gotten most of her homework done, and she was a few weeks ahead in her readings. She liked to be ahead in school work. It gave her time to practice flying, and to help Meggan with her school work, she really wanted her friend to catch up so they could have classes together. It'd be great to have a friend in her classes. Her roommate was nice, yeah, but not during classes. Honestly the girl's brother was much better to discuss anything like school work with. But anyway. Since she'd failed in her attempt to chat with the teacher, the fifteen year old decided that going out for a nice fly would be the order of the day.

She trotted up to her room to don several more layers of clothes and glanced at the window. While it would be nice to be lazy and go out the window, she had a hard time getting it shut from the outside, so she had to go all the way to the nearest actual door to the outside. Ah well...

As soon as she stepped outside and closed the door, she zipped up into the sky. It would have been more fun doing loop-de-loops with her friend, but even on her own, it was nice. She almost didn't take notice when she saw people down in the gardens. But. There was Mr. Van Leerson. And, she didn't remember anyone with purple hair. And Avery, she didn't know the elven lady very much but it was good to see her laughing. She didn't seem very happy lately. That decided it. She wanted to come down and say hello at least. Only, descending wasn't as controlled as she intended; she came down fast, and realized that she couldn't slow down in time.

Letting down a startled yelped, she swerved up again and just missed the branches of the old oak tree by a breath. Instead, she went heels over head and landed several paces away. In a bush. Upside down. "Ah-Ah'm stuck!" she exclaimed, trying to wriggle her way back out. "Mr. Van Leerson, help!"

First American high five! Score one for Anny! He could now check off hive fives from his long list of 'Things to do to become an Official American', this list consisted of: Eating a cheeseburger with pickle, ketchup, bacon and mustard; the works. Lighting off fireworks on the forth of July, preferably something big and exciting! Driving a fast car, preferably an American made car, or a pick up truck! Oh, And of course, go to Yankee Stadium and watch a game of Baseball. Anan had only seen a few baseball games in his life, and frankly the sport just looked jibberish, very slow and uneventful but he supposed the game maybe more interesting in person? Nothing be Football though, European Football that is.

He watched as the two X-men bickered in their friendly manner, Anan assumed they were good friends, possibly even related? It was nice to see that the X-men had such good chemistry between one another, that was surely something Anan wished to be apart of. He was a new comer but he had felt nothing but acceptance since he arrived, it was at that moment he felt that God truly had led him to where he was supposed to be. An interesting fact about Anan, he considered himself a born again christian. Ever since the Missionaries from America visited his Village so many years ago, he learned a great deal from their bibles and preaching, Anan loved the message they displayed and always kept it in his mind and when things were bad, he knew there was always someone he could turn to.

"“Where is it again that you came from?” Anan knew he had forgot to mention where he was, how forgetful he could be sometimes.
"I'm from a very very small village in in South Africa, Harare...It's nice there, very simple...Not very green there though," A rare frown appeared on Anan's face, he loved his homeland but the entire state of his country was in ruins, especially after being so close to Apocalypse, not that the Country didn't have it's troubles beforehand. Anan, However was unbelievably grateful he got out when he could, surely living in America was something he wouldn't take for granted, ever.

Anan's frown was soon removed by a wide eyed expression of terror and confusion, A flying girl! Oh god, and she was heading right for the group. The large, 6'7" man had never moved so fast in his life, so it seemed, leaping like a panther to assure he wasn't going to get knocked over by the girl swooping in for a rough landing. The young girl hadn't come nearly as close as Anan though, however in the heat of the moment he though it better to be cautious...plus he was very tall, he was used to birds just flying down at him, mistaking him for a tree.
Anan was strangely agile for being so lanky and awkward, he had managed to pounce being the rejuvenated maple tree, much safer then anywhere else. Anan peaked his head out from behind the tree as he heard calls of help coming from a bush off in the distance, Oh no, the poor flying girl was caught in a bush.

Upon taking Kyle’s carrot, he merely laughed as she began to eat it. It was fun to have someone that she was comfortable enough to tease and banter with, even if things got heated between them from time to time. Avery smiled back sweetly in return as he chided her on how difficult it was battling Hank for the fridge. Her response was a good natured roll of her vibrant eyes, making it plainly obvious that she didn’t believe a word of it. But Kyle continued on as they went jab for jab, warning Anan that Avery wasn’t as innocent as she looked. And for a moment her mouth dropped in mock shock before she broke into a smile.

“You’ll have to forgive Kyle,” Avery informed Anan with a warm chuckle, not missing a beat. “He tends to talk a lot.” She added, opening and closing her hand in a ‘yap, yap, yap’ gesture. “You’ll get used to tuning him out soon enough.” Then another sweet smile was flashed in Kyle’s direction and he graciously let her get away with this one…this time. They didn’t want it to turn into an all out ‘who can out-do the other’ fight in front of their new member. After all, he looked so happy, no need to weird him out. So instead, Avery shifted gears and asked him where he was from and Kyle too chimed in to show his interest in the school’s gardener.

"I'm from a very very small village in in South Africa, Harare...It's nice there, very simple...Not very green there though," He replied with a frown, the first time she’d seen him do so since she encountered the tall, lanky man. However being a little surprised to see that look on his face, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen it before. She couldn’t say if something had happened in his homeland, but indeed something had brought him here and reflecting upon it brought forth troubled expressions. Avery smiled softly and nodded as if she understood wholeheartedly, or at the very least she seemed sympathetic.

“Well, I hope at least you’ll be able to adj-“Avery stopped mid-sentence as Anan’s expression suddenly changed and she immediately heard the rush of wind, followed by a youthful cry of alarm.

Anan was surprisingly quick to react as the thin giant dodged the flier. Avery, not knowing how close she was, dropped immediately into a crouch, expecting whoever it was to pass over her head. Thankfully, they did…but unfortunately nearly smashed into a tree, only to deflect from it last minute and find themselves in a bush.

"Ah-Ah'm stuck!" The voice of Melody Guthrie exclaimed as she fumbled to pull herself out. "Mr. Van Leerson, help!"

Avery rose instantly, her slender hands covering her mouth at the little accident. “Please don’t have your eye poked out, please don’t have your eye poked out!” She chanted softly to herself.

Fingertips shimming with white mist as Kyle moved to assist, Avery made a gesture as if she was parting back her clothes in her closet. In response the bush separated to allow Melody more freedom but it was possible that her clothes and hair could still be tangled in the twigs. Glancing over to Anan she waved him out from his safe place behind the tree. “It’s okay…it’s just one of our students. You’ll get used to that too.”

“Melody…are you okay?” She called out from behind Kyle.

" I do not talk a lot, it just looks that way cause I talk consistently" he winked at the green hued nurse in jest. This sort of banner, jovial give and take had became second nature to him here. The new gardener spoke a little about where he had originated from, a small village in South Africa that the young X-man had never heard of. kyle wondered what it had to be like, the sudden change from living in a place like South Africa to coming here to another country, similar in ways but foreign in so many others. He'd have to pick the man's mind about that. Kyle had never traveled far, well he had went to the moon but in his list of places to visit before he died he had hardly ever imagined that as one of the locales he to see. But such was the life of an X-man. When you were on Xavier's clock just about anything and anywhere was fair game. Avery was in the midst of asking Anan a question when someone came figuratively crashing in and calling out. The sight of one of his students Melody Guthrie entrapped in a shrub was terribly funny, but the teacher refused laugh. The young girl would probably be awash in embarrassment, and Kyle could truly mock no one for embarrassing displays of powers gone amiss. He had had way more then his fair share.

"Ah-Ah'm stuck! Mr. Van Leerson, help!"

He darted towards the entrapped girl seeing the shrub open up as if to release its captor, a working of Avery's he guessed. The nurse wielded more abilities then her way around a first aid kit that was for sure. Arriving at Melody and her branched prison he began to assist the girl with her release while hoping to allow her to keep as much of her pride with her fall as he could.

"You okay Melody" he asked with concern. There was no way to work amongst these kids and not grow to care about them. Concern came just as easy as frustration did.

With Avery's aid he helped Melody to get loose, scanning for visible injury. The girl had taken what could have been a nasty crash, luckily it appeared the bush had taken the brunt of it, but there was no way to really tell the extent.

"You feeling okay, Mel. Any cuts or bleeding. you feel dizzy? Did you hit your head? Maybe we should get you to the infirmary"

His overprotective teacher self kicking in Kyle helped the perhaps frazzled girl to her feet. True, the Guthries were made of tough stuff, but it never hurt to get a check up from the medics in situations like this. Kyle looked back towards the schools nurse and saw her coaxing the startled new gardener from where he had hid during Melody's sudden arrival.Kyle guessed the Anan was a long ways from south Africa indeed. He'd get the hang of it all soon enough though. They all did.

Everyone had gotten out of the way, which Melody was very glad of, but landing in the bush wasn't much better than landing on them. Well, for her. It was much better for them, odds were that someone would have gotten elbowed or kneed. The elven lady's voice saying something about not having her eyes poked out made Mel smile despite the scratches and general disorientation. It reminded her of her older sissies when she and her lil sibs got into mishaps. Both Avery and Mr. Van Leerson asked if she was okay. She wriggled a little more, trying to get out of the bush, making a face at the dirt a foot below her face.

"Ah think so," she said, frustrated that the more she tried to get out, the further she got stuck into the dratted bush. Strangely, the branches seemed to move away from her and she felt someone tugging her free. With Kyle's aid, she was able to escape the tangled plant. "Thank yeh, Mr. Van Leerson... an' Avery? Yeh made it lemme go, didn't yeh? Thanks..."

"You feeling okay, Mel. Any cuts or bleeding. You feel dizzy? Did you hit your head? Maybe we should get you to the infirmary."

"Nah, s'alright. Ah just got a few scratches... the bushes broke mah fall nicely," she said, looking a little embarrassed. There were mostly scratches on her arms, where she had blocked her face. It was really nice for them to be worried about her, but it was also quite embarrassing. She felt a little bad for worrying them all. And the new guy. He... had he dived behind the tree? "Ah didn't knock into yeh, did Ah?" she asked, looking instantly contrite? She was sure she hadn't bowled him over, but she could have. "Sorry... Ah'm not so good with landin' still.."
