Kimberly was standing on the still surface of the waterfall’s pond. This place over the last two years had become sacred to the hydrokinetic, because to her, the water was the life’s blood of the planet, and within it she could sometimes, if she closed her eyes and listen hard, hear thousands of heart beats. To her, that was religion. Everything was connected and all it took was anyone to take a moment to see it. Her parents were dead, as far as the paperwork went. The house...well there was no house anymore. That mansion on the seashore was gone and Kimberly’s childhood memories, what was left of them, were gone. But she could smile.

Her father was emotionally abusive, and her mother was distant. When her mutation surfaced, they only kept her around out of obligation, but when she decided to leave, they never got in touch. They were only too happy to have her gone. She was not bitter however, not at all. All she had in her for them anymore were the words “I hope you both found what you were looking for...” There was a hollow feeling there, she was sad they died the way they did, unable to find happiness in the hollywood spotlight. Cause Kimberly has found everything she ever needed where she was now.

She knew somehow, even before she left what she was going to find. She had spoken with the proper authorities, and the land her parents had left was legally in her name now that she was eighteen. She had so many ideas in her head for it, but not quite enough money for it yet, so she was putting it on the backburner. Tears ran down her cheeks as she remembered the good things about both of her parents, and the good things she could do with their legacy, wether they would like her ideas or not. It was hard to feel bad about their death outside the idea that her parents were gone.

She sang softly and the water rippled around her, responding to her voice. “I hope you are happy, wherever you are. I Wanted you to know that, nothing is going to change that, and I hope you find it...” She sang softly and a smile crossed her face and she felt her knees buckle abit. “I hope you find it.”

Tommy had been slow lately, an almost impossible twist for the boy who had, since his mutation kicked in, had been in an inescapable rush. It wasn't anything physical that had nearly grounded the speedster. In fact, if anything he was feeling more at ease with his abilities and the way they caused his body to move and his mind to process. This was something that could certainly be attributed to his training at the Institute. What kept him down was a hard truth.

True to form, the silver haired mutant had almost immediately and entirely brushed off the considerable personal; drama that had befell him in the past few months. Since finding out his strange connection to Billy his life had become a whirlwind of telenovella style melodrama. Still, he raced through it. Every discovery was met with a cheesy one liner and a decidedly short term recovery process. Hearing the news about Kimmy though, what had happened to her parents, was a completely different story.

It cut through him, making his own hardships seem trivial and less than real. There was no need for him to wonder what the fact that Kimmy's pain was so much more important to him meant. It was more than clear. He found her where he knew he would. n times of trouble of desperation Tommy ran. It didn't matter where he wound up or how long it took him. The only thing that held any importance was the wind in his white hair and the often mistaken feeling of having some sort of control over his life. Walking up to the waterfall, Tommy realized that everyone must have an escape. She sang. She was much too beautiful to have to hurt the way she did. It seemed fundamentally unfair to the boy. He would have taken it from her if he could. He would have carried the pain, coupling it with his own and made sure that she would have never had to touch it. He wanted to tell her that. He wanted to tell her that he loved her and that, as long as he was alive she would have a family. He wanted to tell her that he'd of given anything to change what had happened. He wanted to tell her a million things, but as he made his presence known, the only thing that would come out was, "Hey, want some company ?"

"I kinda thought you would end up here. Sorry I didn't tell you I was back..." Kimberly was speaking softly, there was a slight melancholy in her voice, and she did not take a moment to dive in to the details of what she had found, she only turned on her heel, her feet bare on the surface of the water and looked Speed directly in the eyes. "It's funny how losing parents who didn't love you any more affects your perspective I guess."

Kimberly made her way across the pond and to Speed, she gave him a soft peck on the cheek and then crashed down onto the muddy shore, landing on her butt and laughed for a moment before returning her gaze to the water. She was quiet, and thinking more of how lucky she was to have Tommy than her parents and was thankful for a break from her current train of thought.

The pain had dulled by now and it was just a dull ache. She could deal with a dull ache. Her heart had not hurt this bad since ShadowX, and the feeling wasn't welcome. She wanted to shove her feelings away and go back to making music, smiling, and going on silly dates with Tommy. Now she could only think of the land in California, her parents, and the scars left by the Apocalypse in parts of the country that wernt as populated as New York.

"That's okay sweetheart," Tommy said in reply to Kimmy's statement. She was obviously in a vulnerable place now and Tommy wasn't about to give her a hard time for something that seemed so insignificant in the face of what had happened. Besides, there were plenty of things that the speedster had hid from her. He felt a pang of guilt considering that fact. She walked over to him, much too graceful to let on the extent of the turmoil she was surely going through. She kissed him. It was a tender and chaste kiss. She had been for what seemed a lifetime to the speedster. He had often imagined the time when she would kiss him hello upon her grace. Never in his imagination was it like this.

She spoke, trying to make sense of what she had been through. Tommy sifted through his thoughts, attempting to say something to help the situation and coming up empty. She slipped and hit the ground. In an instant, he was on the ground beside her.

"Are you okay ?" he said. Then she started laughing. Only Kimmy would laugh at a moment like this. "I-I want you meet my mother." Tommy blurted out almost instinctively. He had been through with the Wanda situation and talking with Kimmy felt the urge to get some normalcy. He flashed a smile and stayed beside her.

"Oh!" She smiled again, "That sounds really fun!" Kimberly of course, had absolutely no concept of who Speed's mom could be, it wasnt a conversation that had happened yet. She knew Speed's conception was a little different, but the entire thing had not really processed yet. She had no idea at all. She would probably feel guilty later when the whole thing congealed in her mind.

"When are we gonna do that?" She questioned. Shifting the water around in the pond idly, pushing her parents away from her thoughts as she had done for so long. She had mused on the way back from california that pushing the thought of their death away from her mind should have not been so easy, but after two years of practice, it came naturally.

"We could eat somewhere!" She exclaimed, those who knew her well enough would see it quickly. She was faking it. She was faking her excitement, and reverting back to the mask she had learned so well to build up. When you were the face of a television network, and your character was required to always be happy, you got pretty damn good at acting happy. Particularly when all around, you could watch people falling apart.
