Time of day: Five in the afternoon Place in the time-line: Friday, April 16th Out on the second floor balcony overlooking the gardens, Kel was just out enjoying the day. Trying to, at least. It was a pretty nice day. Though it was overcast. The gray sky just seemed to contrast with the verdant green of the plants below. Several students were in the gardens, finally able to enjoy the warm day now that their classes were over with for the weekend. Something he was glad was done with, at least for now. He'd barely managed half a semester before all hell broke loose early last year. Maybe in a few more months he'd consider college classes again, but ... he wanted to focus on training for a while longer yet. After Apocalypse, he'd gotten serious about that for the first time really.. and a year later, while he'd improved, it wasn't nearly to the point where he'd feel comfortable focusing on something else. Like college. It wasn't like he was just putting it off because he ... okay, he was putting off because he didn't want to deal with college classes, but that was only part of it. There were just more important things, and they came first... However, today wasn't about training or the future, or even about the past which he tended to linger over way too much. It was about taking a fucking break and relaxing for once. Kel really had to force himself to just stop once in a while. There were other people who could do anything he could here, and probably better if not so tirelessly. Just because he didn't sleep didn't mean he shouldn't rest once in a while. Right? Right. Still... even with something to read... and his ipod playing... he was already pretty damn bored. He was sure the book was good, that wasn't at fault, it was the third in the trilogy and the others were fine. It was just too nice out for him to remain interested in it. "I give up," he said after a few moments, tucking the book under the chair cushion and leaning back. Now he just had to decide what he did want to do. Maybe he'd head to the outdoor training area. Until lately, the weather hadn't been good enough to make use of it. Maybe... |

Anderson had begun the day with enough simplicity to be called his normal regime. He'd gotten up before his roommate - one whom he still had not had a full conversation with other than a nod of the head and a good morning or night here and there - showered and shuffled through his clothing of what he'd wear for the day. He'd be lying if he said he didn't like being at the school. But he'd also be lying if he said he loved it. No, the Xavier Institute was not his clear cup of tea, however it was the best place for him right now. And as he saw it he needed to be here. If only to get away from his family or the ways of the world. He couldn't complain either. Sure the room was smaller than he was accustomed to and sure the meals weren't served with wine but still, he was making the best of it. One of Anderson's pet peeves had become the lack of inspiration he'd taken to his newest reading collection. Anderson didn't go along with change as most people did. Whether it was crying or drowning themselves in booze. Anderson put on a strong face and settled down with a well worn novel. Books were the only things he would willingly touch that were considered hand-me-downs. The more worn a book the better the book probably was. Which was precisely why he'd bought 1884 from the book stand on his last outing into town. And it was now the reason he was halfway through the book. As his day had -for the most part ended- Anderson found himself looking for a quiet place to read. The library had been an option but it was full at the moment. His room was another one, but people seemed to barge in if the door wasn't locked and knock repeatedly if it was. And so Anderson found himself retreating to the second floor of the school. He'd seen the gardens through one of the windows and decided that the balcony overlooking them were as good a place as any to enjoy a good read. Heading out onto he stopped short with the book to his side. Eying an empty seat next to the occupied one he spoke. "Pardon. But is that seat taken?" He asked pointing to the vacant spot. |

Without really thinking, Kel had removed his headphones when he noticed someone was coming onto the balcony. Even if it was just to say hello or whatever to whoever it was that was joining him. The sudden silence was strange, after the volume he'd had his music. It wasn't like he had to worry about damage like most people. No going deaf for him. To his surprise, it wasn't someone he recognized. Not that he knew everyone that lived at Xavier's, but he recognized the majority of them on sight if not by name. And it wasn't many that he didn't know by name as well, even if they didn't know him... which might seem slightly weird if he hadn't been helping out with security since last spring. "Oh, hey," Kel said, a few beats after the student spoke, a ready smile on his face. His ears weren't ringing from the silence any more but sometimes it wasn't the easiest to get back onto planet earth when you've going been off into orbit. His thoughts were stuck between training and the book which resulted in some scattered thoughts. He had been wondering if the author was a mutant or just mutant friendly... it really seemed like it to him. "No, go ahead. I think I'd have noticed if someone was lurking there." Or not. But the few people around that could do that so... invisibly, probably would say hi or something to him rather than just lurk there. Glancing back at the garden, Kelrian figured that he probably should just let the guy read his book he'd brought along. It was rather difficult to find a quiet place to read and he didn't want to be a pest. Nothing wrong with at least introducing himself first though and he'd feel a little antsy if he didn't, with the guy sitting a few paces away. Anyway if he'd wanted to be left alone the guy could have chosen something further away... right. "I'm Kel. When did you arrive at Xavier's?" It would be stating the obvious commenting that he was new and all that. But it painted an entirely different picture if he'd arrived really recently. In this weather, showing people around was quite pleasant... and at least a temporary measure of relieving boredom. |

Regardless of what the other male may have decided on, Anderson was going to take the seat. And if an invisible child was playfully sitting there thinking himself cute. Well - Anderson would be able to find out if children could fly from a balcony. But the need for such drastic measures weren't needed and so he smiled and nodded his head politely and made to sit down. It was nice to see that the small amount of people he had bothered to make contact with weren't as self-pretentious as he'd originally thought. They were much nicer as well as not as fight ready as most mutants you'd see on the side of the street mugging an old woman. Then again most of the mutants here participated in that Danger Room sequence. Something that had been explained to him but he'd never given it much thought. Because basically with a name like Danger Room he'd lost all enthusiasm. Nodding his head and thanking the other he sat down in the opposite chair, crossing his legs and opening his back in the process. He couldn't remember just what page he had left off on the last time he'd opened the book. "George Orwell you do amaze me." He mumbled as he flipped the pages. He didn't bother to glance at the other to see if he'd heard him because Anderson had concluded years ago that he was strange. Therefore talking to himself in small snippets never caused him to worry. To others it may have seemed as if his mental state was perhaps a bit fractured. But he knew it meant that he was operating at full capacity and was doing a wonderful job. In that short amount of time he had already blocked out the other student(?) on the balcony with him. So he looked over instantly when he spoke. Offering a small smile he extended a hand. "Anderson. Pleasure to meet you." He looked down at the gardens before continuing. "Is it really that obvious that I'm a new student or are you just that well accustomed to the who's popping up in this place? And to answer you're question, I've been here precisely three days now." He said as he held up three fingers to prove he could count on a near kindergarten level. |

The blond young man was hardly one to consider someone else weird, as he certainly wasn't normal. Some of his quirks were because of his powers- it wasn't his fault that he never seemed to run out of energy. At least he'd managed to contain his klutziness caused by that... it'd been a long time since he was the cause of broken windows or vases. Or, in case of rather more troublesome accidents, bones. "Likewise, Anderson," Kel replied and shook the guy's hand. He spoke with a friendly smile, fighting the automatic urge to shorten the name to Andy. If he'd wanted to be called that, he'd have introduced himself that way. Giving strangers nicknames against their will wasn't something that needed to be done. Well. Not exactly strangers since they'd introduced themselves and technically lived together, but still. "Not really obvious, no, but I try to keep up with new faces... I help with security sometimes so its a good idea for me to know who's supposed to be here, right?" he said, cracking a grin. Yeah a place like this needed major security, though it wasn't supposed to be public knowledge. There's always mutants gone to the dark side, or if all else fails crazy cannibalistic women attacking students. Or teachers acting like they're completely different people than he'd come to know in the years he'd lived here.. "Three days? I think I remember someone mention someone moving in a few days back- anyway, welcome to Xavier's. I've been here for the better part of five years sooo if you need to know anything or whatever, feel free to find and grill me." Grill. That was an odd way to put it, wasn't it? Eh, whatever... everything he was saying was coming out pretty strangely today. |

He nodded his head at the response Kelrian had given him. It was pleasurable to meet someone who didn't want to call him Andy or some other hideous little nickname they'd thought up on the spur of the moment and lacked any creative genius to it. "True" He said to the others remark about security. He closed his book and placed a hand to his chin as he turned to talk to Kelrian better. He had come out to the patio to read, but it would be nice to at least socialize a bit and get to know his peers better. Or whatever Kelrian was. He wasn't sure on the whole peer part because honestly the guy looked older than he did He remained motionless as Kelrian spoke. "Yeah that was me then." He said referring to the new arrival. "I hear you guys get at least one new arrival every few weeks. That and a few desertions." He cast a sideways glance at Kelrian as he had taken to looking back over the gardens. He could understand why anyone would turn to the school. Then again he could understand why some would leave (albeit he had only been here not even a full week). "I'll grill you indeed." He said with a bit of a wiggling edge to it. He was relaxing. Always a good thing when meeting new people. He nibbled on his lip a bit as he thought of something to say to break the silence. Not that it was awkward or anything. This was their first meeting and would more than likely not be the last if Anderson was going to continue living here. "So what kind of security does a place harboring super powered residents need? Not saying your'e useless because I'm sure you're not. Just wondering seeing as I'm more than sure I saw a girl half my size breathing fire. If that doesn't say back the hell up then I don't know what does." He said as he shrugged his shoulders with a smirk. |

"Every few weeks... well, that's a bit of an exaggeration." Kel wondered what students told newcomers to this place, now. If there were horror stories about the crazy things that had happened here in the past. Then again, most of the people who had been around then, weren't around now to talk about it. So it would be pretty vague, he figured. "And, well. I wouldn't really call them desertions. Its a school. Most people leave when they're done with it." Obviously he knew he was stating the obvious. "I mean, I did. I was gone for like... half a semester of college before that craziness last spring." Meaning the Apocalypse of course. There was a lot more that he could add to that. And a few years ago he would have rambled on about it, too. Sometimes he still got like that, but rarely if ever to someone that wasn't a close friend. It wasn't this place that had changed him. It was partly due to growing up and partly due to a series of events that remained discussed even three years after it was all over. Just another example of the problems between human-kind and mutant-kind. There was nothing to be said about it. He wasn't sure whether he would have come back after college if the world hadn't nearly ended, but it happened, and he was back, and that was that. The blond blinked at the question. "Well, the perimeter is monitored, among other things. Its really high tech... I mostly just do night watch, so people can sleep. 'Cause I don't... but anyway, I'm sorry, but a gun will do the same thing to a fire breathing little girl as to a normal little girl, even if the intruder doesn't have null tech. Or powers of their own, for that matter." His manner about it said one thing; there were intruders before, and bad shit went down, causing the tightening of security. So some kids complained about curfew. At least they were alive to complain about it. It was alright that they didn't get that the security was in place for a reason, it wasn't them being paranoid. A lot of the world really was out to get them. "Most of the world doesn't know what this place is to bother us, and many of the students can defend themselves, but the fact is, most of them are kids and they shouldn't have to. Y'know?" |

He nodded his head as he listened to Kelrian give plausible reason as for residents leaving the school. Well of course thats what he'd meant. At least thats what he'd tell himself anyway. He'd thought about dropping out of school once. For maybe five minutes when he'd failed his first test in high school. That had put a damper on his teenage spirits. So how exactly old was Kel if he'd already left for college. If he had to guess he would place the other boy in early twenties for that matter. It had always been told to him it was rude to ask the age of others, but then again he was a pretty rude person and so such common since habits such as that didn't always apply to him. "How old are you exactly?" He asked. "If you don't mind me asking that is." Anderson shrugged at the reason for the security. He felt stupid for asking his question now that he'd been told such a simple reason. It made perfect sense, but it seemed that he had to have someone explain the simplicity of the reason before his feeble mind could register at all the reason for the surveillance and curfew and other security measures the school had taken. He looked ahead back over the garden as he took in Kelrian's words. "You're right as I'm sure you already know. Most of the people here shouldn't be in such danger that would face them outside the school walls. Has something horrible happened to the school before or something." He looked back at Kelrian smiling. "So what can you do. I mean in case something horrible were to happen and all. Not that I'm hoping for some kind of massive government attack on the place. I do have to live here after all." |

"Nah, its girls you have to worry about asking their ages didn't you know?" he said with a bit of amusement, having grownup in a household of sisters. A guy had to know what was what when he was outnumbered by females, or they'd turn on him like a pack of wild dogs. Or something like that. "I turned twenty last month. How old are you?" Just knowing that he was a student didn't really say much, and Kel wasn't the best judge of age. There were plenty of mutants that couldn't finish school due to people with issues about mutants in their schools, endangering their children. Some came here to finish their schooling, or just to train their powers to a comfortable level.. Perhaps blunt honesty wasn't the nicest way of explaining things, but it wasn't really in Kel's nature to dance around topics. It was annoying when people didn't get right to the point, or sugar coated their meanings, particularly when it could have negative effects. Like the kids not taking the danger seriously and getting hurt. Or killed. "Well, most of the crazy shit had nothing to do with intruders, usually its when a group of students leave the grounds. Or go out after curfew because they think they're invulnerable badasses. There's been a few attempted kidnappings. A girl almost got eaten by a crazy shapeshifter in the forest, but one of our former teachers stepped in. Trees. You wouldn't believe it- we were attacked by animated trees last summer... But yeah, its mostly been more bizarre than horrible but human-mutant relations, bad enough as it was, fell apart after the Apocalypse so - we're just bein' careful.." "What do I do? Survive. I can heal from just about anything, and if its something relatively minor its fast, but things like... regenerating limbs takes a few weeks. And don't ask how I found that out. Its not an entertaining story, beyond discussing the fact that I was a pretty stupid teenager." He smiled slightly, as it was less than a month since he was officially no longer a teenager. Changing back to the former subject, he continued, "But I've been training for several years, so yeah. I can usually hold my own against, say, Jayson so long as she's just using her superstrength. Turning people to stone isn't fair." That was a joke. Yep. How to counter stone-touch? Covering up properly before the session, simple. |

If he had had to guess on the age Kelrian was he wouldn't have been off by much. He'd have said nineteen at the oldest, but then again he'd never really been good at that sort of thing. Fighting the urge to say old enough he answered with his real age. "Eighteen. As of last December that is. He wasn't sure how coming to Xaviers would affect his GPA. Not that it was surprisingly good or surprisingly bad but he hoped it wouldn't interfere with his completing school or anything. He'd already forgotten everything they'd even told him about the curriculum. Regardless he was more than sure he'd do surprisingly well. He rolled his head around to ease out a few crinks and cracks from his neck. Hopefully not disturbing the other boy. He knew some people could become ill from just hearing it. He raised an eyebrow as Kelrian spoke on events of the past summer and couldn't help but try and hide a small smile. True some people would call him a downright bad guy but he really wasn't. There was also a fact that he could make snide remarks and that along with a sick sense of humor didn't do to well with other individuals. "Sorry." He said with a smirk. "Animated trees? That's precious. Not that I condone anything like that and such just the idea. But I'm sure it's worse than what I'm imaginning. No need to try and reprimand me." He scratched a bit at his ear as he thought on what else to say. He hoped he hadn't already got on the wrong side of Kelrian with that last comment. Well - if he had, the two had had a nice chat. With Kelrian's words he'd been a bit confused sorry to admit it. But he quickly summed it up for the boy. That was better than nothing. Plus Anderson would much rather be able to regrow limbs than just stop stuff. Hell he'd like to be rid of the entire damn set of "gifts" but he was stuck with them. And it was in his family nature to make the best of any situation. Sometimes. Just not in his case. "Aha. And seeing as you're twenty I guess you could qualify as a pretty stupid adult." He laughed before resting the side of his face in his open palm. Uncrossing and crossing his legs he thought to ask on Jayson. "A stone touch doesn't sound at all to fair. Or fun mind you. But I'm sure it makes for some awkward first dates." A few seconds of silence elasped before he pressed on to find who Jayson was. "So is Jayson a student here. Or are all the teachers on a first name basis?" |

It took a bit more than cracking joints to disturb Kel, though he had a lower tolerance for other people doing such things. He didn't do it much himself, but other things along those lines that bothered the squeamish. "Yeah, I know its like something out of Lord of the Rings or whatever, but ... well, hand-to-hand combat does absolutely nothing against rampaging trees, and there were no fire-breathing little girls with us at the time," Kel said with a half smile. There had been no permanent harm done, so whatever. "Maybe," the blond said with a shrug. He figured the past few years settled him down, which had been the main problem. Not thinking before acting. Stopping to think tended to solve problems before they became disasters.. "Nah, she's not a student or a teacher. I'm not a student so I don't really have to call anyone Mr or Mrs whatever... Though since I was a student here 'til recently, it's kinda strange. Not that I really know any the newer teachers." He made a face. He'd never been a fan of teachers, mainly because he had too much energy to deal with long classes. He felt bad for Speed, it had to be like ten times worse for that kid. "She's just lives here, super hero business," he said, cracking a smile. Not because of the awkward comment either. Though he was sure her temper would be lessened if she could actually touch people. Right. "Not really my plan, but whatever. I don't think I have a plan anymore." Seriously, he used to know what he wanted to do with his life. Now? Hah. |
