Well it wasn't often that you could claim that someone tried to shoot your plane down with a missile and walk away to tell the tale, yet that was one thing Cordelia could boast with the rest of the pawns when she was toasting the end of this mission (if she made it through this night alive). But with the swift exit of Shatterstar through the portal to disable the attack, courtesy of the Black Kings smart thinking. Naturally, Cordelia had faith that Psylocke would have been able to pilot the plane safely, but if that missile had been announced, she would have grabbed a parachute and jumped out of that door before you could say Gucci. Of course, she would have to know where they were in the first place to do that but she had no idea. But now that they were being split up into two teams, Cordelia wasn't sure whether she should be glad or sad about who she was being teamed up with. Surely, Lucian was an asset and probably good in combat but his mind reeked like an broken sewer, darkness and disgust seeping outwards. She couldn't wait to save the White King, just so she could escape from Blackouts presence. Naturally, when she ended up actually exiting the plane with the other two, she would find herself being very accepting of Lucian being there, in the darkness of the night. "Your being blocked... Wait, I can still sense people. My long range isn't good, but there's at least several dozen people I can sense in the town, the majority seem to be in that direction and I can bet that's where we need to go. But there's something so wrong with their minds" Cordelia replied, squinting slightly as she stretched her mind as far as she could, the more blurry it got, like starring into the distance till your eyes started to water and everything became a mush of colours. But the emotions, they felt strange. There was hate and anger there, fear and loathing, but it was like it was muted, such as someone had turned their feelings way down. Almost like the time she had visited Christian and she had to cross that ward, next to the men and women who cried all night, terrified of what was happening in their minds, preferring to hide themselves from the fears with the mental suppressants that the doctors handed out. Everything restrained, held down and bound inside their own mind. Cordelia sometimes felt like she wanted that protection from the world. To not feel, to be at peace in such a way was a gift that she rarely felt while sober anymore. But she knew that this suppressed feelings wasn't because of any pills, it wasn't a blanket over their feelings, it was a straitjacket and a gag, a wall over their souls. It wasn't escape, it was more like a prison. Following Betsy's lead, she picked up a baton from the weapon selection, almost looking wistfully at the guns. Sure, she had ways to protect herself, but like most things in life, problems could always be solved with a bullet to someones brain. Daddy had always told her that. Still, the baton was reassuringly heavy in her palm, giving a swift click as she swung it down, the base expanding out. Perfect for hitting someone and breaking some bones. The sound of an approaching engine signalled conflict in the air, and Cordelia immediately focused on the approaching minds as she began to scramble away. Focusing on the fear that she felt, she slammed as much of her empathetic clout at their minds, hoping to shatter that wall over their minds. Cordelia may have had the mental subtlety of a tank, but when you needed to attack, you could do a lot worse than a tank. But when she did, she saw more movement that she couldn't detect in her mind. "Some of these aren't human!" she shouted as she swung her eyes around, trying to see someone coming to attack her, weapon clutched tightly between her hands, as she breathed in sharp shallow breaths of nearly terrified breath. Thank god Betsy couldn't read her mind to see her fear. Surrounded by darkness and being attacked? Why hadn't she stayed at the club! |

Forge watched through the eyes of the men attacking from the Jeep. It was just another torture devised by Shadow King. The two controlled men were attacking the members of the Hellfire Club; Betsy, Cordelia and Lucian. One man leaped from the Jeep and took to physical combat with the White Queen. They fought and the Brit flew to the ground. She drove a heel into the man’s knee dropping him to the dirt. Lucian had stepped to the jet to fortify it with his powers. His nanites had begun to modify the jet in various ways whether it was armor or weaponry. The drones approached and he turned to face them. He reached out with his technopathy and fought with their programming. He overtook the machines and they fell to his control. One of the drones had skittered toward Cordelia who was armed with nothing but a baton. It froze in place and then turned on the second driver. The robot knocked the man’s weapon from his hand and pinned the mind controlled puppet to the ground with its metallic pincers. The other two metallic drones climbed atop the Jeep. Lucian then ran his fingers across the hood of the vehicle to deposit nanites there. They quickly went to work and the drones melded to the Jeep. The vehicle was quickly fortified with the machetes and Uzi’s the drone had been wielding. Their spidery legs arched from the side and the front and twitched as if they were ready to crawl away. “You’re plan backfired,” Forge said to Farouk. “You sent those men out to kill the Hellfire Club and now with that Jeep, they’ll get to the gymnasium even faster. Now they’re armed.” Shadow King said nothing. Forge didn’t know if his attention was elsewhere or if he was simply ignoring him. “And the team is heading right for the hardware store. They’re doing it without even killing any of the townspeople yet.” The Cheyenne was even able to force a laugh. “You have no real power, only what you can usurp from someone else through their body.” The chains that held Forge tightened. The hooks imbedded in his mental skin pulled, stretched and ripped his mental form. He groaned out in agony. The vision before him shifted to a scene in the basement of the gymnasium. Forge was given a full view of the device. “In mere moments, I’ll spread through the mental populous of this planet like a virus. No one will be able to resist me. We’ll see who is powerless then,” Shadow King sneered. With that, flames erupted around Forge’s mental self. They seared his flesh. His body grew bright red from where the flames licked him. His lower half began to twist clockwise and his upper half started to rotate counterclockwise. “Since you’re so confident you’re friends will save you, I guess I better have all the fun I can,” Farouk mocked him. |

Telepathy (I'm not a bloody ninja)
|
Things could always be worse…That’s what the White Queen told herself. It was usually always a true and valid point. Things could always be worse. It was a little mantra she had picked up in her psi agent days when she would go on particularly unpleasant missions, sometimes something boring, occasionally life threatening or usually something demeaning. Like that time she had to pretend to be a pole dancer in a club down the wrong part of Soho in London to get some intel on a few mafia sorts who rented out the back room and she’d ended up, locking herself in a wardrobe as she got almost caught and she was in there so long, she was surprised Mr Tumnus hadn’t come out from a pile of coats with a tea tray. Of course, it could have been worse, she could have been caught and made to prove she was a pole dancer. So, things could be worse right now. Lucian was proving that while he was an awful, greasy little individual with all the charms and charisma of a soggy little sewer rat nibbling on week old pizza, he was still very bloody useful. As she was taking a turn with her dance partner, out of the corner of her eye she could see him at work on the jet; it was undergoing something of a transformation to secure it and knowing him, booby-trap it. As long as she didn’t have to fly it home with arms and limbs dangling from the underside of the fuselage. Grappling with her opponent, she still felt half the need to keep an eye on the other two members of the Club accompanying her despite their ability to (hopefully) get through this unscathed. It was paranoia on her own part, from the loss of her abilities. Luc was now moving on to taking over the Jeep, while Cordelia was blasting at the men with her empathic abilities. Rolling on to her back, she sprang back up to her feet, taking a swipe at a second man who came upon her. “Awfully sorry, this is absolutely nothing personal, but we do have to get on here,” she said conversationally and was finally able to utilize her stun gun on one of her opponents. He fell to the ground gazed and she jumped, breaking into a run to get towards the Jeep as the other staggered after her. Once they were all inside the now supped up vehicle. It wasn’t particularly graceful or dignified, being chased by a glazed eye, half dazed, robotic man, but you could hardly pick out your ideal scenario in these sorts of situations. Skidding to a halt, she brought her fist up fast, slamming it into his nose and turning to kick him, her armoured boots packing a hefty clout, wincing as he went down, finally halted. Well, wasn’t he going to smart in the morning. Without her abilities however, there was little else she could do and overusing the stun gun did not appeal to her. Hopping in the Jeep quickly, she waited for the others to catch up, Lucian oiling inside as soon as he was done, her hands resting on the wheel of the Jeep as they waited for the Black Pawn to follow them, her heart thundering in her chest, every second feeling like a minute, every second one less in getting to their destination. How long would they have? She had no real forewarning, unable to use her powers to her advantage. They needed to get to the gym, fast and hope that the other group had been successful. |
