Place in SL: Occurs 20 minutes after Always Find your Way

Kimberly stopped in front of her next classroom breathing hard. She pulled out her phone for a moment, to check the time. She was five minutes late for class. That however wasn't particularly important right now, Jet, who seemed to be having convulsions on the other side of the building was the important thing.

There were other students in the room, and Kimberly had not really spent time with Cyke in a while, her schedule had been filled to the brim with other things, and those usually overlapped with her defense class, not to mention her 2 week hiatus from the institute. After she got back from that she had spent a week just staying in her room, before she was able to come back out and really rejoin society. Just imagine all the tears Tommy had to deal with.

She ran past the other students to Scott, the same alarmed expression on her face as when she left Jet's room. "Mr.Summers?" She gulped, not really sure how she was going to explain all of this. "I think Jet is in trouble...she was acting really weird... She told me not to go get help, but I couldn't leave her like that and not feel guilty."

He wasn't teaching class. C'mon, he never made it past tenth grade thanks to these red demons in his eyeballs, but seems Scott Summers of this world was a math teacher of all things, so Ruby, pretending he was the man, had to be in attendance, though he was using a substitute, allowing one of the student teachers to take the class following the syllabus his counterpart had left. He claimed it was a "learning exercise" for the student teacher, a way to make sure that if anything ever happened that the school would continue, that things would continue.

On the pretense of this evaluation, Ruby sat in the back of the class, watching the teaching go on, and he was learning everything his counterpart had already known. He loved math, he didn't want to admit it, but he loved the constancy of it, he loved the regiment... there was imagination in mathematics, but not of the airy intangible floaty kind that he simply didn't understand. There were patterns and constructions and ... control, yeah, that was it. Math had a lot to do with control.

Suddenly, just as class was about to start, a blonde girl barreled in... he tried to place her, remembering her from the files he'd been studying since arriving in this upside down as she called his name, frantically. He rose from his chair and said, "Miss Parker... Calm down, tell me what's happening."

She told him that someone named Jet was acting weird and needed help, and his heart dropped into the pit of the stomach. Was it someone else? Someone from his world crossing over?

"Show me where she is," he told Miss Parker. He waved his hand at the student teacher, "Keep class going and I'll be back if I can." Ruby nudged the blonde girl, "Quick now, where is she?"

Kimberly had a funny look on her face for a moment. There was something a little different about Mr.Summers that she was having a difficult time placing, but before she had too long to think about it, Scott nudged her from her thoughts and she shook her head." Y-yeah, sorry."

She headed right back out the door and in the direction she had came, the music room was clear on the other side of the floor, and so she was walking as quickly as she could. In the back of her mind she was thinking of how Jet had been behaving before, it was like she was seeing flashes of an entirely different person, and that was kind of terrifying. Maybe Jet was developing some crazy second personality. As Kimberly reached around in her head for a logical explanation for what she had saw, she and Ruby arrived at the music room.

Kimberly took a deep breath, her nerves had her out of breath, which was funny. You could train all you want, a nice dose of nerves would send you huffing for breath. "She is inside the music room..." For a moment she considered just letting the whole thing go, Jet had seemed very adamant about no-one coming to check on her. She opened the door despite herself and Jet's requests.

After Kim Parker had left Jet had planted herself in her chair and rubbed her temples. She had no idea what that flicker was. She wanted to close her eyes and take a deep breath but the last time she closed her eyes for an extended amount of time she opened them to a different setting. It had to be stress, it was like all of X-Factor was working over time. Not to mention it only lasted a few moments. A momentary lap in sanity.

Jet decided it was safe to close her eyes. Feeling, from the recent increase in activity in Mutant Town, tired from the patrols alone was apparent to her once her eyes were closed. Until she heard the classroom door open. Opening her eyes to see Kim Parker and Scott Summers. Thinking, “Fuck...” and smiling at the two. After the small episode she had earlier the blonde couldn't really blame the young girl for getting someone to check in on her.

She had heard about Scott's situation. That he took to calling himself Ruby and had called himself a thief. Much like what was going on in Mutant Town. Jet didn't believe that the same thing was happening to her because in the cases she had heard about they lasted for a long time. Not to mention she had problems, and every reason to be stressed and a little bit out of her mind.

Looking back and forth between the two she stood up and spoke, “Hello again Ms. Parker. Hey Scott. Or... umm, Ruby I guess.” She wasn't use to calling Scott Ruby. He never seemed to like being called by certain nicknames, and while Jet did that for virtually everyone, Scott was the only one she wouldn't. It was because he seemed to dislike it so much. “What can I help ya with?” She knew, but the blonde felt as though she had to play dumb, and then play it off like it was nothing. Because in her mind, it was nothing. Just a thing.

Ruby was pretty sure that Kimmy was over reacting, all hyperactive and shit, and that whatever was wrong with Jet was closer to like acid reflux than dimension hopping, but frankly, he was so uninterested in taking a math class under the guise of auditing the student teachers performance that it was criminal, pardon the pun or don't, no skin of his nose. A distraction was a distraction and the Disney princess sure didn't give him anything to go on regarding the situation.

Jet was in the music room, sitting down and looking distraught. Yeah something was wrong with her, but the way she greeted him, with forced cheerfulness, juggling his name awkwardly suggested that she was trying to hide something.

"Scott's fine," Ruby muttered, folding his arms, and leaning against the door frame, "I'm getting used to it." He nodded to Kimmy, "And we kind of want to keep certain things on the downlow, feel me?"

He looked around and didn't see any signs that she had thrown things around or tried to blast her way free. He didn't know what her powers were, but a lot of the people who were switching, if that's what was up, were suspicious and violent when this happened, himself included. It was pretty frightening and disorienting.

But then, he was just jumping at shadows. With this starting to happen with more frequency, every time someone had a problem, they all expected the worst.

"So, Miss Parker is telling me you ain't doing well," he said, "You got something up with you, Jet, or am I skipping math class for nothing?"

Kimberly stood there awkwardly half expecting Jet to tell her off for ignoring her request for this to all be kept under wraps. Kim couldn't possibly keep that kind of promise, she recognized when things were off, and now was one of those times.

Kimberly briefly took note of the exchange between Scott and Jet. She shook off her temporary lack of confidence and began to speak. “Jet, there was something really strange with you, please dont act like it didn't happen. It was like you were two people. And when you went between them, your eyes... they were terrifying.” She looked down at the floor, not wanting to make eye contact with Scott or Jet, like if she did, they might not believe her story at all.

It was scenario’s just like this that managed to outline exactly how disconnected Kimberly could be from the world when she wanted to be. She had not heard of the same thing happening to people all over, only in passing, and so she didn’t jump down that direction. Instead she was just sure that her Choir teacher was going absolutely insane, it was the only explanation for the whole thing. Jet was drifting into the realm of Bat-Shit and she had no idea what to do.

Scott spoke first. Asking if there was something up with the blonde or not. Kimmy chimed in that she there was something strange with her. She couldn't fully blame Kimmy for going to tell someone, Jet really wished she hadn't though. She had her problems in the past. Not to mention all she had been through it was enough to believe she was just loosing her mind.

Jet put her elbow on her desktop and rest her hand in her chin. Taking a moment to look back and forth between Scott and Kimmy she spoke, “Momentary lapse in sanity.” She didn't want to have to say any of what she was going to say in front of a student but it seemed she had no other choice. “We've been under a lot of stress at X-Factor. Working overtime. Not to mention I've gotten word that someone who's out for my blood sorta escaped from prison, needless to say mentally wise I need to put in a call to my therapist.”

She wanted what she said to be enough for the two. It was nothing what had happened, nothing but a twitch. It came and went, “Lack of sleep doesn't help much either with all that's been goin on.” Jet took in a deep breath and kept on saying, “So I almost don't want to say it but... you skipped math for no reason. I'll call my shrink and get the recommended eight hours of sleep. I'm fine, really. I promise”

Jet removed her hand from her chin and put up two fingers as if to say 'scout's honor'. “If I'm lyin I'm dyin. And it takes a lot for my heart to stop beating soo...” She gave a smirk to the two of them. Hoping it was enough to keep them sated, she just wanted what happened to go away.

"Yeah, and I was born yesterday," Ruby muttered. He looked between the two blondes, one a student, the other a teacher, and he sent a prayer up to a god he didn't believe in that he be delivered from this confusing ass world where he had to deal with people in this fashion. The responsibility was grating, wearing, and if he was the sort of man who was able to see beyond his own needs and desires he might have recognized the value of the position his counterpart held. But the events that had made him what he was, the repeated abuses of his mentor, the denials of happiness his harsh world relished in, his own ingrained feelings of self-loathing at what he was, acerbated by this realization of what he could have been... yeah, it didn't lead to him feeling generous towards these two girls.

As Jet babbled about stuff he didn't care about and Kimmy played shrinking violet, Ruby hitched his shoulders in a shrug and said, in response to her talking about some guy trying to kill her and not getting enough sleep, "Yeah, times are tough all over. Well, if you don't need me then, I have things to do probably."

Then he turned on his heel and headed for the door. She didn't want to talk, he wasn't going to coax it out of her.

Not his style.
