Just a malfunction, right?!; [Jayson, Anderson, Kel]

Kel had been training with Jayson regularly for some time now... mid-October, actually. It had occurred to him that while she pushed him a lot harder than he'd push himself, he was at a standstill now. He wasn't improving, he was holding back and hesitating when he shouldn't be doing anything of the sort. And he thought that perhaps if someone else was involved, perhaps he wouldn't hold back so much.

So, he'd asked Anderson if he'd like to join Jayson and him in their next training session. Normally he'd probably have asked Vic, or perhaps Kimmy, but he doubted that the guy got a go at the DR yet.

It had been at a low setting at first since Anderson hadn't participated in a danger room session before, and something moderately easy was best for first timers. So, thus... a few bouts of an intense version of laser tag, only it was the three of them against way too many random computer controlled 'people'. They'd discussed the general plans for the session beforehand to save time; laser tag to warm up, and then something serious- trying to infiltrate a lab, search it, and escape - hopefully without triggering alarms.

Of course, Kel he didn't much care for the more realistic sessions, usually. Something he was trying to get over, because if it come to it in an encounter in real life, hesitating could cost lives. The one planned, however, was something he could deal with, he thought. The training session had been going on for about fifteen minutes, when they switched to a different program from their 'warm up.'

The next setting was beside a forest, much like the one outside the school, which was presumably hiding the lab they were meant to infiltrate. It hadn't even started, when things seemed to blur. For a moment, the trees looked different, and he could almost make out other people, before his vision returned to normal and Jayson and Anderson were standing there in the Danger Room again. Okay, that had to be some kinda malfunction, but it was done with now, right? Everything seemed normal... "Alright, ready?" he asked the other two, glancing away from the forested area.

Originally the idea of a Danger Room session intimidated Anderson, a feeling he very rarely ever felt. He had been wary to begin with. Because, basically he had never in his life practiced being in real danger. He didn't make it a habit of pretending to be chased by soldiers with rifles since he had hit the age of eleven. And even before that the only guns he had, had consisted of water. He wouldn't lie and say he was in excellent shape either. He was far from it. He surprised himself however with his ability to keep up with both Jayson as well as Kelrian. From what he'd deduced was that there were sometimes classes where students would train all at once. Not that he was self-conscious or anything (because he was) but he knew himself well enough that practicing along with perhaps fifteen other students would undeniably distract him and more than likely have him do something stupid, trying to show someone more experienced up. But being here with just Kel and Jayson.

Things had begun smoothly. True he had spent a good ten minutes tugging on the ends of his training uniform and mumbling under his breath on how he wanted a more customized outfit, but things had slowly picked up. He proved himself fairly decent in the starting sequence of laser tag. He'd only gotten hit perhaps a total of five times. An improvement he thought on himself as it was his real first time. He had learned a bit through that first excessive. The biggest part being that he had been unable to freeze the lasers. A new theory of his was now that he could freeze only solid objects. Therefor things like lasers would could could be dangerous for him.

At the moment he stood on the edge of the forest alongside the two others he had accompanied into the danger room. He was actually glad to have been asked along. He'd gotten off to a good start with Jayson he'd thought - as she didn't say much about his bitching in the beginning. With his arms crossed and doing his best to peer in between the trees he had little attention placed on either of the other two participants. "So. Am I to presume its some form of a rescue mission or something of the sort?" He asked neither in particular.

Laser tag. Jayson was unfamiliar with laser tag. So she got hit more in the first five minutes than the other two but by one or two more strikes, tops. After getting used to the dodging and shooting back, laser tag got much more fun. It beat having to dodge stones, boulders, and the random stone pillar. A whole lot easier as well. Though she doubted laser tag to be the next final battle with the next person who wanted to destroy the world. Unless the laser were actually deadly, which wasn't as fun.

Danger Room sessions with Kel became frequent. Jayson liked them because she could use her strength without the worry of causing permanent damage if say she broke ribs with a punch. Lately, however, she began to lessen the beating. By allowing herself to use her strength more freely without holding back, she began to accept her strength more. Meaning, of course, a further level kept being reached. Too afraid to find out her suspicions were correct Jayson avoided testing whether new limits were actually reached. The denial of this particular aspect of her mutation and letting it be more than it was currently always put her at a disadvantage.

Thankful for today being different, as soon as the laser tag ended Jayson turned to Anderson. "Well, how's that for the first part of your first session in the DR?" She asked with a slight shrug. When she asked him the question she'd been trying to recall her first session but it'd been so long ago. The room always changed and it was getting harder to tell the difference between the session last month with the one today. Except, of course, this was Anderson's first time here.

As it usually did, the scenes of the Danger Room melded flawlessly from the laser tag shooting gallery to forest. The mission was to infiltrate a lab without getting caught. Sounded simple enough but Jayson knew by experience that things were seldom simple. So, there was sure to be a major alarm system, possibly guards with augment abilities (this was a lab after all), or worse. Her imagination wasn't working at the moment.

"OK, I'm going to step aside and let you two handle this. I'll be back-up command or the muscle or whatever," Jayson said giving a shrug. She figured, having more mission experience, the training session wasn't really for her benefit. "Ready?"

Not all sessions had to be serious. You could learn while having fun, and just because it didn't seem like real danger, didn't mean that it wasn't helping you improve reaction time and all that shit. The thing was, you couldn't train for every possible situation, but you could train your mind and body to be prepared, and to be ready for the unexpected, rather than freaking if someone hasn't trained for a specific scenario. And laser tag wasn't as unsettling as the more intense programs, for a new student.

Kel gave Jayson a slightly annoyed look, as she said she'd 'let' them handle it. He'd been the one to set this whole thing up today, so he sorta figured that it was a given... ah whatever. Ignoring her repetition of his question- he answered Anderson's question. "The primary objective is getting in and out without getting caught, but yes there's supposed to be a rescue involved. There's bound to be a twist to it though. There usually is."

Smiling, glanced back at the forest, and said, "Lets go. Keep alert, they might have look outs in the forest or something.." They'd had long enough to catch their breath from the previous part of the session, and much longer it would have been useless for a warm up because they'd start getting stiff.

FLICKER

It was extremely quiet in the forest. In fact. It was silent, except for his footsteps. Wait. The forest. It was wrong. It had been, like, a normal forest for New York, not this. A rain forest? What the hell? Kel stopped in his tracks, and turned. There was no one... "Jayson? Anderson?" he spoke, quietly. Where the hell had they gone, in the past five seconds? Seriously...

Meanwhile, in the DR.

Kelrian didn't stop walking. The forest reminded him of - home - which was strange beyond believing, after the past year or so. He'd noticed two others following behind him, but one of them was Jayson, and they were both... wearing pretty much the same thing as him. Some kinda uniform.

Honestly he was confused as hell, but he was not questioning it at the moment. There were people ahead, and they had weapons. Guards of some kind. He turned with a finger to his lips, and stopped for a moment. Perhaps... he'd go on ahead to see what was so important that they were guarding. He gestured to them to wait, and he snuck forward to take the nearest guards out. Too bad, he didn't have his knives, but he'd learned the spots to take someone out. For a while at least.

Returning to the others- he spoke. "The way is clear..."

The breather that the Danger Room had allowed the trio fit Anderson just fine. Not that he was out of shape but he wasn't the most athletic person either. But he wasn't going to let them see that side of him. He stood still and erect. Choosing now not to lean against the tree and appear just as accustomed to the scenario as the others. Jayson was a senior member of the X-Men so it was fair that she'd want him and Kelrian to develop a little on their own. But he was -for lack of a better word- a newbie. one who was going to be following orders when needed. Something he had never been to keen on or even good at.

He felt himself smiling as Kelrian answered his question in turn. Raising an eyebrow in return. There was always a twist. Regardless of the plot or setting - real life or video game. Something always happened that wasn't planned. Hell they weren't living on Dawsons Creek or anything. Not that he'd mind. But he'd rather live in Mean Girls. That was one of his favorite films - Oh they were moving. He saw Kelrian go forward first and figured that Jayson was perhaps allowing the two younger ones to go forward first. Perhaps she was offering them up as pawns or maybe Anderson should just stay out of the more pessimistic thoughts he had on occasion.

He did good to keep himself ready he thought. He had learned over the past few months that his hands were of more use than his eyes -not in the use of lasers mind you but still- they were much more effective than he'd given them credit for. He kept his eyes on Kelrian's back, save for a small stumble over a simulated (?) tree stump. Cursing, he regained his balance and continued in silence until finally Kelrian seemed to take charge. Holding his position he watched as Kelrian made quick work of the few guards that were present. Staring wide eyed he acknowledged the others work. "So when can I learn to do that?"

At Kel's annoyed look Jayson gave a shrug. What she said was the truth. They needed this session more than she did. Kel needed more experience on missions. As for Anderson, well, let the Danger Room be a warning for him. Jayson planned only to step in if things got too out of hand so she can show them how to really complete a DR session. Yet, Kel seemed to be onto her 'save the day' plan. Ah, why bother with plans? Kel deserved to take the leadership on this. So, the plan was dropped and Jayson decided to just be the muscle.

Oh, yes, there was to be a twist in this infiltrating of the lab. Inwardly Jayson gave a bright smile. A peace of mind came with the simulation of the Danger Room. Everything was merely an illusion and though unpredictable, the surprises weren't to be deadly. Outwardly Jayson wore a serious, straightforward expression. She followed swiftly after Kel. No indication of noticing Anderson stumble was made except for a quick smirk.

Sure enough there were lookouts in the forest just as Kel predicted. However, Jayson remained a few steps behind the two curious to how the guards would be dealt with. It was Kel's initiative. First he motioned for quiet then gave another gesture for Anderson and her to stay back.

And Jayson's only reaction to Kel's quick work of the guards was a single, stunned blink.

Not giving any thought to it, Jayson rushed to Kel's side and gave him a congratulatory pat on the back. Though, of course, her strength had been misjudged so it was more of a slap but Kel would know she didn't mean it. "You're improved, Regen," she said wearing a flashy smile and using Kel's codename. Then, suddenly, as though remembering where she was, the smile dissipated just as quickly as it formed.

"The lab should be just up ahead," Jayson said to Kel in a serious tone. Then she looked at Anderson and said, "Anomaly, in about five years with more training than you can even imagine," in the same serious tone.

In response to Jayson's sudden congratulations, and the young man's ask question, he stared at them with a frown. The slap didn't help, he didn't much care for contact. He was used to her behavior, though, so it didn't bother him much. "There might be more, you know," he said in a low voice. Though if they were to be overheard, it would have already happened. Not telling them off, because he didn't really care, but just letting them know.

Ah well. Not like he was going to be the one suffering for it. Of course he couldn't possibly know that this was not entirely real, though with a few hints he might realize that it wasn't his world he had stumbled into and that he hadn't suffered from some kinda black out before ending up here. He didn't question the use of a codename from his fellow freedom fighter... or whatever the hell they were. 'Regen' was obviously just referring to his power set.

The lab? he questioned mentally, then shook it off. Didn't matter. Jayson's response to 'Anomaly' was also ignored, as it made absolutely no sense. Also didn't matter. Jayson wasn't the complete idiot he'd thought when they'd first met, however there was times he doubted that. This was one of them.

"Alright," he added, after a few beats, when no one moved after Jayson spoke. Looked like he was going first. Fine with him; didn't know what the one guy's powers were, but hell. Unless he was a regen as well or bullet-proof, it was best if he headed in first anyway. Turning away from the two of them, he headed toward the direction of the lab confidently. There weren't any more guards in range, it looked. And, lo and behold, a window? He smirked and waved the other two over. It was just in reach, for him. Kelrian grabbed the window ledge, pulled himself up slowly, and peeked in the window.

Security? Nothing seemed to go off as he managed to get the thing open. Not glancing back at the others [if Jayson didn't decide to boost the boy in and follow, she was hopeless], he scoped the inside. A long hallway, they were near the end of it. Pick a door, any door. He walked toward the barely open door on the end, and glanced inside. Guys like the guards outside. He could take them out, probably should, but instead, he backed off and checked another room. Empty lab room. And the next... there we go. Patients. Or victims.

Test subjects of some kind, in cages. Humans or mutants, he couldn't tell the difference. If they were mutant, there were no physical mutations. Frowning, he headed back to the window to see if they were waiting there or had found another way in. Jayson might be interested in this. These kinds of things, she got angry about..
