William Shakespeare, one of history’s greatest writers, and someone that most students had to encounter at least once during their school career. He was also someone that always got mixed reviews from the students who read his works; some loved him, while others couldn’t understand what the hell he was trying to say. Sofia Mantega could enjoy what she could understand of Shakespeare’s plays, but unfortunately she had trouble figuring out some of the stuff he might have wanted to say on her own. She figured that it was probably because modern English wasn’t even her first language, let alone an old fashioned version of English. If she had been reading this particular play, Twelfth Night, in Spanish she probably wouldn’t have nearly as much of a problem with it, but as it was she generally had to play close attention in class to completely get what was going on. Not that she ever didn’t pay close attention in any of her classes...

They had been studying the same play in her English class for the last couple weeks, and though she had an idea of what the play was about, she was still having some trouble completely getting everything. It was unfortunate that she had a test on a couple of the acts within the next couple of days. She intended on trying to ask for some extra help from one of her classmates, or even her teacher, but everyone that she asked seemed to be busy today for some reason or another, so she was stuck studying on her own once again. She had spent about an hour just staring out the window of the library, trying to study, but she kept getting distracted by the beautiful sunny day she caught a glimpse of through the window.

Sofia eventually decided that if she had to study she might as well do it outside, at least then she wouldn’t be staring out the window longingly. She wasn’t entirely sure how warm it was outside, it was only March after all, so she threw a jean jacket over her t-shirt, as well as a light weight outdoor jacket before venturing outside. It turned out that it was actually fairly warm out and she probably could have done without the second jacket, but at least she had it just in case.

There weren’t many other people hanging around outside right at the moment, which was fine and she eventually decided to wander out to the forest and the waterfall that could be found in it. She settled herself under a large tree with just enough shade, though the sun was still sort of in her eyes, so she kept her sunglasses on and opened up her copy of Twelfth Night. Perhaps if she was lucky someone else with her same problem might eventually venture outside and they could study together or something, but she was content enough on her own.

This had been quite a day for Dallas Gibson. Only a few hours ago, he'd been sitting on a plane, soaring over the clouds as he hurtled towards his new life at the Xavier Institute. You might think he'd have been nervous, trepidatious, maybe a bit excited about what he'd find waiting for him in New York, and he certainly was, but never underestimate a teenaged boy's ability to sleep in any circumstances. He'd snored his way across the country and was only roused from his slumber when the portly lady beside him had given him a gentle nudge just before they landed. As a result, his first sight of the city wasn't the momentous cinematic vista he might have hoped for and was instead squinted at through blurry, bleary eyes.

Inevitably, now that he'd taken the taxi to the institute and dumped his bags in his new room, he was wide awake. If he was smart, he'd be putting his energy to good use by unpacking and reviewing his class schedule but that sounded too sensible to him. All he really wanted to do was to get a proper look at this incredible building. Never in his life had he stepped foot in such a magnificent place and it was just begging to be explored.

He'd spent some time wandering the halls, peeping in on classrooms that happened to be empty, getting slightly lost but loving every second of it. The decision to transfer here had been a sudden one, his hand forced by necessity and the need to find somewhere safer than his hometown had become, so he really hadn't spent much time considering what he could actually expect when he got to the school. It was safe to say that the vague mental image he'd had rolling around in his brain was nothing compared to the reality of this place. And best of all, he could walk around it for as long as he liked, as openly as he liked, without fear. Nobody was going to spit on him or call him names, nobody was going to jump on him, nobody was going to drag him into a quiet corner to land a few punches on him. He was safe here. That feeling was liberating and intoxicating.

It was a beautiful day outside and it hadn't been long before the brilliant sunshine streaming through the windows had lured him outside. Dallas had always liked spending time outdoors but since the manifestation of his living shadow, he loved it all the more. The brightness of sunlight strengthened and deepened his shadow, bringing his mental link with it into its sharpest focus so he tended to grab every opportunity he could to get out of the house, especially now that the long, dark winter was fading so rapidly away. He quickly discovered that the Xavier Institute was as impressive outside as it was inside.

Soon enough, he found himself approaching a waterfall, a broad smile stretched across his face. It was all just so... lovely. Even the fretful psychic chattering of his shadow, who was far less enthusiastic about the school than Dallas himself was, couldn't dent his mood and his appreciation for his new environment. Pausing to look out at the waterfall, he crossed his arms lightly over his chest and allowed himself a quiet laugh, feeling on top of the world. "Man. So cool."

Turning around, his gaze immediately fell on a young woman perched under the shade of a large tree just behind him. He hadn't realised he wasn't alone and the sight of another person was enough to make him jump. "Oh!" He promptly started laughing at his own surprise, stepping forward to say hello properly. "Sorry, didn't see you there. I was just taking a look around at the place, hope I'm not disturbing you?" Dallas was a sociable fella. If this lady was hoping to be left alone, she was probably out of luck.
