Timeframe: April 22nd Afternoon 3:30 p.m. It was beautiful outside with clear weather, and the sun glinted off the glossy black body of Jack's motorcycle as he gave it a once over with a clean towel while he crouched in the driveway. Although tensions had been running high the past few weeks, nothing eased Jack's nerves more than getting outside and doing exercise or manual labor. The painstaking cleaning and upkeep of his motorcycle did the trick just as well, and Jack adjusted his sunglasses as he scanned for any smudges to smooth away. His motorcycle had been the one constant in his life, through thick and thin and many long, sleepless nights. It was getting up there in the years, unfortunately, and keeping it in peak condition was burning a hole in his pocket. But Jack was controlling of the few possessions he had, and he'd have to completely trash it before he would think of getting another one. Mostly it was for the sentimental fact that it had been a birthday gift from his mother. Feeling his skin start to prickle on his arms, Jack picked up his handy tube of sunscreen and smoothed on another layer. He already ahead a faint dusting of freckles, but his skin roasted like a baby's without protection, even though the peak time of the sun was over. One year in his student residence he made the mistake of going to the beach with some friends; it only took an hour for him to get a wicked sunburn, and although the damage wasn't permanent, it still hurt like a bitch. Jack sniffed thoughtfully and returned to inspecting his motorcycle for any imperfections. He hadn't exactly been easy on it as of late, wearing through a new set of brake pads quite quickly. |

Empathic Metamorph / Flight / Concussive Blasts

It was one of those nice days where the weather was all lovely and not too warm but not too cool, so she could wear shorter sleeves that did not get in the way of her hands, which could be very inconvenient. A couple of books were firmly under one arm and a stubby pencil was behind one ear, as well as another in her skirt pocket, just in case she forgot about the one behind her ear. Behind the other ear was a sprig of early daisies, wilting a little now, but still giving her the air of a woodland urchin. Meggan was looking for a nice spot to sit down and do her work, but it was maths and maths always confused her an awful lot and there was science, but that confused her too… Wandering around to the driveway, she was considering going back inside for a moment, when she spotted one of the X-men, polishing a very shiny bike. It looked so nice and bright in the afternoon sun that she was almost sorry to interrupt him, but he was nice, she remembered, and it was a shame to go back inside. “Um, hello Mister Russell,” Meggan drifted over closer to the bike, her bare feet not making any sound. “You’ve got a very pretty bike,” she added in her lilting, dreamy tone. Shifting her books, she held them to her chest, hugging them slightly. “Although I’m not sure if I’d learn to ride one when I’m older, I think I’ll always prefer flying. Though in a way I suppose being on a bike must be a little bit like flying as you feel the air and you get bugs in your teeth if you’re not careful…Although I like changing…sort of, when I want to change anyway.” Giving him a nervous smile, she started to mentally plan out how to ask him for help on her homework, well, if he would help her anyway, she was just guessing that he might. If he didn’t, she’d go and see if Doreen could help her, or Melody would if she wasn’t busy, but it wasn’t fun having to always ask her friends to help her do her schoolwork, as it was no fun and friends should do fun things together. |

A scent hit Jack's senses, one without particular shape or distinction and that changed every time he tried to grasp on it. Um, hello Mister Russell. She was almost silent on the ground, but it was hard to sneak up on Jack in any respect. He glanced back over his shoulder, tilting his head slightly to avoid the glare catching the corner of the lens of his sunglasses; the formality wasn't his style, but he distinctly remembered Professor Xavier mentioning something about a certain level of professionalism with the students, or was it Scott that told him that? "Oh, hi, Meggan." Normally Jack would have struggled for a few moments to put a name with a face, but he tended to remember those with distinctive scents much better than those without. At least five male students all wore the same shampoo and cologne at the school, and it made him dizzy to even begin to think of the myriad of perfumes and hand lotions of all the girls. You’ve got a very pretty bike. Jack shyly beamed at Meggan's compliment, quite proud of how well he took care of his motorcycle. Although I’m not sure if I’d learn to ride one when I’m older, I think I’ll always prefer flying. Though in a way I suppose being on a bike must be a little bit like flying as you feel the air and you get bugs in your teeth if you’re not careful…Although I like changing…sort of, when I want to change anyway. Jack pushed his shades back up on the bridge of his nose with the pad of his thumb, listening intently as he kept a comfortable crouch. He frowned a little at her comment about changing, nodding once silently. He knew that feeling very well, although he gathered that his experience of morphing and Meggan's experience of morphing were quite different. Jack wasn't really sure if he should jump right in on it, but Meggan's dreamy tone urged him to let it go for now. He looked towards the books tucked underneath her arm. "So.. I see uh.. you've got some books there. Working on some homework?" Jack didn't like giving homework himself, although some survival skills were rather essential. |

Meggan smiled as he greeted her, her attention still half on the bike. She really was quite convinced she would always like flying best, above machines, but it was a nice, shiny bike and he looked after it well, which meant it must mean a lot to him and that was nice to see. There was nothing worse than people who didn’t appreciate their nice things after all. Shifting her books once again, the girl nodded as he asked her if she had homework. “Oh, yes. Though I always have it, so I can catch up fast I expect. I don’t mind though, because I do want to catch up to everyone my own age…It’s not fun being below my friends my age, but I’m nearly there…Just maths is hard. I don’t like it,” she made a face, crinkling her elfin nose up a little bit, feeling the maths book burning brightly, where it was tucked under her arm. Julian had helped her before, and Melody would help any time, but she still felt ever so silly having to go back and ask her all the time. “Sometimes I miss not having to do lessons, but it wasn’t very good in a way. I’d never have learnt anything,” Meggan supposed, her comments more a vocalised realisation than a comment to Jack. Watching him, she lifted her books up, holding them before her and flipped to the page she was at in maths, before peering at him over the top of it. “Did you like school? I think I like all the friends I make better than lessons, though I like drama and I like art too, Missus Grey-Summers is probably my favourite teacher. She’s awfully kind.” Realising she was drifting onwards with no real destination, Meggan bit down on her lip for a second and took a small step to the side, looking around, lowering her books. “You’re not busy are you? I was going to find a tree to sit in or maybe just some nice grass under one, so if you’re busy…” almost unconsciously, she pulled her pencil out from behind her ear, making a mark on her page as she watched him beside the bike with her large blue eyes. |

Jack turned half his attention to the minute spokes on his wheels, using the other half to listen as his grimy fingers dipped in and out of the gaps. From the sounds of it, Meggan was further behind than her peers, which was something Jack could relate to. Adventuring across the country didn't exactly fill high school requirements, and when Charles did manage to snatch him up, he was almost a full level behind than where he should have been. He glanced up over the wheel of his bike as she peered at him from over the top of her book. Did you like school? I think I like all the friends I make better than lessons, though I like drama and I like art too, Missus Grey-Summers is probably my favourite teacher. She’s awfully kind. Jack gave a sheepish smile. "Well, um, I liked school okay. I wasn't the best student though.. I really liked gym the best, I guess 'cause I was so good at it. To be honest I uh.. I missed almost a whole year of school because of my... er.. mutation, I guess. I was behind for a while too. But you'll catch up." The problem with school is that it required him to sit still for long periods of time, and Jack was more of a kinesthetic person. He preferred to be up and moving around and needed to handle things on his own to learn them. You’re not busy are you? I was going to find a tree to sit in or maybe just some nice grass under one, so if you’re busy… "Oh, no, no I'm not really busy. I uh.. I just like to keep my bike really clean." He wiped his hands thoughtfully with the cloth, looking over to the book in Meggan's lap. "I mean, maybe I can help you." Jack hoped he hadn't spoken too soon. If she were struggling with language arts he would be practically useless. He straightened and stood, taking a few steps closer to get a look at what she was doing. Oh good. Math. Math and science had been Jack's strong points in school, although he excelled best in horticulture. |

Holding the open book close to her, Meggan gave a smile as she listened to the X-man talk about school. In a way she knew that all of that was like and it made her feel better to know that. After all, he was an X-man now, which meant she really could be one day too. “I never really saw many people in my clan because of my powers and nearly no one outside of it…Well before I came to live here after the X-men found me anyway. It was for the best really, as not everyone understands about mutations…Although some people didn’t realise I was a mutant and thought I might be a fairy, because I changed shape and could look all funny depending on what they were feeling and then I could fly, but they were superstitious, I wasn’t really one…I’d like to be a fairy though. It’s a shame they’re not real.” Meggan paused for a moment as she double checked where she had gotten to on her page, before looking back up at him, nodding faintly. “Oh, yes, but seeing as I never actually did any lessons before, it is taking some time. I am going to one day do my college classes though, I’m very determined.” And she was; being at the school and everything, seeing what she had seen like the Savage Land…it was like being a character on telly and doing amazing things and if schooling meant she could carry on doing these things and do them better…well, she was going to try her very hardest then, even if she didn’t much like all of her lessons; she still had to do them. As he came closer, explaining he liked a clean bike, Meggan was satisfied with his excuse and held the book so he could see better, looking up at him and chewing her lip thoughtfully. “Julian did help me on fractions a while ago but I get confused with the percentagey things. They’re quite useful though, aren’t they?” the blonde elfin girl asked, her nose twitching lightly. |
