So, I guess as an introduction to me: I started RPing when I was... 12, maybe 13, and have been on it fairly on and off since. By on and off, however, I mean it's probably been close to two years since the last time I really RPed for any extended length of time (or for that matter done any writing).

I'm worried that I'm busier now than I used to be and will end up not being able to keep up with it. I'm worried that I'll get overwhelmed or embarrassed and quit. Most of all, I'm worried about not liking the staff or people I'm RPing with.

In fact, that was my main problem the last time I tried joining an X-men board. I don't remember what board it was, but I tried joining, and everyone was really rude, snobby, and unhelpful. I don't think I have ever been as offended in my life as I was by how one of the mods treated me; I swear it was unreal.

Before doing anything, I'd like to get to know some people and see if they are friendly. Because to me, the best part about RPing is meeting new people and making new friends; that's what makes these stories so much fun to make, when there is real chemistry with the players there is real chemistry with the characters.

Also, I'd like to maybe talk about and outline my character so people could tell me if they think it is a good idea or if it would fit in this universe (according to the rules unfinished applications are not appreciated here so I thought I'd outline in ooc). I try to come up with unique ideas but sometimes I get worried they are a little too unique.

I'll hold off on the outline until after I've gotten to know some people first though.

So I know this has been a kind of long rant, but if you've sat through it, I appreciate it, and look forward to meeting you.

Punches from the Punch Dimension
Welcome to XMR, hopefully we'll be a better place than that last rp. Feel free to ask us anything, and we'll try not to be too snotty and rude, though sometimes I'm a "little too Cyke" I've been told, hahaha. Seriously though, whatever you need, we're here or in the cbox. XMR is three years old and we've have some big giant plots, we're right in the middle of The World Without Xavier plot, where an alternate dimension has gotten too close to ours and their people are switching places with their XMR counterparts. There's plenty of opportunities to hop in no matter what faction you're in.

Ping us and we'll help you in anyway we can

My aim sn is goshuntoku (I'm going to add that to my profile info in a sec), and I'm online right now, so if you have an aim sn too maybe i'll hit you up that way. Sometimes I have trouble getting situated right, with figuring out where all the plots are tying in and stuff, but I'm sure once I get the hang of things it should be fine.

When: Early Evening
Where: Danger Room
Date: May 11th

Angie stood outside the Danger Room, wearing her practice uniform. She was staring at a book filled with wall paper-like patterns. Most of these were the same basic patterns she'd been using in class, but she wanted to work beyond that. She knew she could do better and wanted to try something she'd never done before: Matching textural appearances. Whenever she made a pattern, the texture always looked like her. Even if she'd made a perfect color match, she could still be picked out by her hair or the shape of her face. So here she was, trying to push herself.

While she wasn't allowed to touch any of the computer systems to activate her program, she was determined to do this. Lifting her head, she closed her eyes and concentrated, making one of the simpler patterns appear over her skin and uniform. It was a blue and white stripe pattern that she had done before, but now came the tricky part. She wanted to make imperfections and shadows appear. First, she started to make little gray specks and even added the appearance of a small rip near her shoulder. After a few moments, she opened her eyes and looked down at herself, grinning. It wasn't completely convincing yet, but it was starting to get there.

Hey, you. I'm totally the meanest person here and I'm completely full of it *hugs* good luck on your app, whatever you go with. I've been here since the beginning and its a great place. The people are okay too, haha... but really. We have standards and there's smartassery run amok because its funny but yeah. I made sure I spelled it right; amok. I even asked my dad because it looked weird. Uh. Sorry. I got distracted by trying to figure the right spelling for that word.

I'm still in the process of moving, but since I'm getting internet tomorrow I'll be on again :) so you'll see me around in the guise of my cast of charries..

Ya, I mean this little thread is hardly enough for me to truly say I know you guys, but you all seem like fairly cool people. I look forward to RPing with you all.

I've got some pretty cool ideas for my character, but he's going to be a little out there and I'm a little worried about how he's going to fit into things. I'm still not even 100% sure where I want to take him, so he'll probably start off very minimalistic and I'll let him develop around what I see and how things go. Hopefully I can turn him into somebody interesting and compelling that you will all want to interact with.

Hopefully I will be finished by the end of the night, though it might take me a little longer than that, I'm a little stuck on his personality and history. I have a general idea of how I want his history to go, but I'm having trouble getting from point A to point B.

I want to make his history fairly dense, and I'm thinking I won't be able to make it quite as dense as I would like by the end of the night unless I end up doing basically nothing else tonight (which could be feasible actually). It doesn't necessarily have to be really long, I can probably just summarize most of the events, but there are hopefully going to be a lot of events and characters, so it'll start to add up.

I'll post up his powers and my current version of his personality now, and I'll probably post up my history, or at least pieces of it, throughout the night.

If you guys could just let me know what you think of the character, I would appreciate it.

For instance, does his personality make sense? Are there any confusing things or things that need to be elaborated on? How do you think your characters would interact with him? Things like that.

I don't know if this sort of thing is a regular request; I've never requested it before nor have I ever seen it requested on any of the boards I've been on, but I really want to make this character work in a unique way, so I would appreciate any help.

Anyway, here it is:

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: His powers have a very unique functionality, which he explains with a unique, Taoist inspired universal philosophy. This is not to say that this philosophy is definitively how the power works, this is merely his theory.
He calls it the metaphysical circle theory. First, you must dispel the notion that there is any physical distinction between the living and nonliving. All things are made of the same subatomic particles, and function under the same laws of physics and logic.
Then, you must imagine that the entirety of reality exists within a small dot. This dot is known as the universe. Then, opposite this dot is the null-universe. The null-universe is the absence of all things. Now place these dots on a circle, with the universe on top and the null-universe on the bottom. This circle is the metaphysical universe.
The left side of the metaphysical universe is the realm of understanding. Within this realm is self awareness, cognition, and knowledge. On the right side of the metaphysical universe is the realm of null-understanding. Within this realm is universality, the unconscious, and inherent being; knowledge that is understood without awareness or recognition.
It is ones’ positioning in the metaphysical universe which determines whether it is truly living or nonliving. The living exist within the realm of understanding, whereas the nonliving exist within the realm of null-understanding. However, there is a diffusive like force which creates a flow, which attempts to carry inhabitants of each side into the other. To go from one side to the other, surpassing the universe or null-universe, is to reach enlightenment.
And herein lies The Way’s powers. He has the ability to enlighten nonliving things through touch, and so long as he maintains touch he exhibits a telepathic connection with the now living things.
Depending on the object enlightened, this can mean different things. For instance, a machine, vehicle, or computer could power itself and function independently. The intelligence of the object is relative to its complexity, however most objects will have the equivalent intelligence of a dog. Computers, on the other hand, can reach the intelligence of a pre teen. Objects within telepathic communication are usually obedient; though they do have their own personalities and can at times act independently even when under telepathic communication. Once enlightened, an object will remain as such even when not under telepathic communication, and will act autonomously.
Telepathic communication also allows for The Way to know everything about the object, such as where it has been, who has been around it and anything that has been said, done or could be seen around it. He also understands its functionality intimately. For instance, with an instrument he would understand how to play it perfectly, or how to use a weapon precisely, etc. Because the object is now within the realm of understanding, these abilities would be intellectual only; he would not have the technical aptitude to utilize these things (instruments, weapons, etc.) to their fullest extent without practice.
He believes he also has the ability to become temporarily enlightened, surpassing the universe and reaching null-understanding, however he cannot pull this feat off with any consistency, and this supposed ability may be a product of mental illness.
Similarly he claims to be able to temporarily enlighten others, however due to the subjective nature of this ability, it is difficult to say whether the effects are real or psychologically manipulated.

WEAKNESS: Once enlightened, an object cannot be reverted back. The telepathic communication only works if he is touching the object. The connection is intellectual only and does not grant him any inherent physical or technical skills. The enlightenment of an object is broken down into relatively small pieces; an entire building, or even an entire room, could not be fully enlightened or telepathically communicated with at one time.

PERSONALITY: He is, in one word, eccentric. This may be due to his undiagnosed bipolar disorder and high functioning autism, his exceptional, near-genius level intellect, and his supposed ability to become temporarily enlightened. He is very obsessive, and often times loses touch with reality, instead focusing on any number of “projects” he has relegated to himself, such as, when he was still located in Poseidon, his vigilantism and “movement”, his attempt to bring enlightenment to the world. He also likes to tinker, creating weapons and other equipment to support his vigilantism. Because his father is wealthy, he has never worried about money, or for that matter making money, even though his father has pushed him to go to college so he could eventually join the corporation.
He is truly at heart a philosopher, both of eastern and western philosophy, though he is most fond of Taoism. He often has trouble relating to other people, or interacting with them, because he has such a unique and complex outlook on reality, that these things take on entirely different contexts and meanings. In part due to his intelligence, though also perhaps due to his upbringing, he takes pleasure in the finer things, as well as classics. He loves classical music and jazz, fine dining, the theater, and the cultural aesthetic of the 1920s-1950s.
Despite his intellectualism and tastes, as well as leading his “movement”, he generally looks down on supposed intellectuals, philosophers, politicians and the politically minded (though especially liberals), sophisticates and the elite. He claims that his pursuit of enlightenment and his philosophical preaching are actually anti-intellectual in nature, and his tastes in early 20th century aesthetic and finer things is because post-modernism has strayed the path of humanity away from true enlightenment towards a politically and culturally-minded pseudo-intellectualism.
Despite his seemingly contradictory beliefs, eccentric qualities, and difficulty in relating to or interacting with people, he is very charismatic and an exceptional speaker, and tends to be very successful amongst those smart enough to understand him (or whom pretend to be).

((Sorry, but Students can't access the Danger Room without their teacher present - she's going to need repositioning to outside the room at the best.))

iTunes was a wonderful thing as far as Rahne was concerned. Get your music on the cheap, taking up no space at all, plus you got all the liner art and whatnot you would have gotten with the CD. As such, Rahne's library had all kinds of music she probably wouldn't have bought otherwise. Corrine Bailey Rae? Sure. Buble? Yup. Deep Purple? Why not?

She was in the midst of uploading "Purple Rain" when a knock resounded on her bedroom door.

"C'mon in," she called out. Into her room stepped Tanya Kitaine, a student with six arms.

"Uh, hi..." the girl stammered, running her top left hand through her long black hair.

"What can I do f'r ye?" Rahne asked, swiveling in her seat to face the girl.

"Well, uh, Miss S..." she started, glancing away momentarily.

"Relax, I'm nae gonna bite ye. I may be werewolf, but I won't bite. Cross my heart," Rahne couldn't help but smirk. No matter how sweet she was, there was always a few who were nervous around her.

"Oh, okay, I uh... You teach the little kids, right?"

"Aye, somethin' wrong?"

"I uh... Don't think so... It's just that a little girl in her training outfit is waiting by the Danger Room... She keeps changing colors and stuff. It's weird."

"Angelique..." Rahne shook her head and stood up. "Alright, thanks fer lettin' me know. I'll be right down."

***

Sure enough, Rahne was downstairs in her own uniform, bare feet slapping against the floor with each step as she approached the girl. She hadn't changed forms yet, but was ready to if she had to.

"Ye could'a come to me if ye wanted extra time, Angie," she announced. "So what're we lookin' to do tonight?"

Angie squinted as she concentrated on the pattern and bit her lip, trying to replicate it with a few flaws like she'd been focusing on earlier. A rip here... a darker stain there... Then at the sound of bare footsteps, she jumped and looked up as she turned pink in surprise, her concentration broken. When she saw it was Rahne, she managed a small smile, but looked back at her book. When Rahne spoke, she shifted a little and held the book to her chest nervously as she turned a medium shade of green. Looking up, she shrugged a little as she answered Rahne.

"I wanna be better at what I can do, but I can't really blend yet. I wanna be a spy for the team, but I can't be that if I can't hide. I wanted to practice, but I didn't wanna make you come down here for me. I'm sorry."

She bit her lip a little, wondering who'd told Rahne she was down there changing colors like a painter's palette. But the fact that she didn't want to disturb her teacher didn't change the fact that she was down there now. At least Angie would have some kind of actual wall to study and mimic. She looked up at Rahne and swallowed a little.

"You don't have to stay here for me. I don' wanna ruin what you were doing."

"'Twas nothin' important," Rahne said with a shrug of her shoulders.

Hmm. Blending in, eh? Rahne thought, going over the possible simulations they could run to help her figure this out. The best options seemed to be a variable environment program, one without threats that the girl would have to deal with, one that couldn't hurt her in any way.

"Alright, I think I've got the idea," Rahne said, reaching over to the Danger Room's security keypad by the main entrance door and tapping in her ID number. The doors slid open with a hiss, and the inert Danger Room awaited them.

"Ye can set yuir book aside out here, an' then wait there in the middle o' the room while I head up into the control booth," Rahne walked into the room, and as she did, a bell sound rang over the PA system, recognizing the data chip inside her "X" belt buckle and allowing her access. It was the school's way of ensuring that only authorized personnel used the Danger Room, doubling a bioscan with progress-tracking software installed within the uniforms themselves. The Room recognized the lessons the students had undergone and the training simulations the X-Men had undertaken by way of scanning their uniforms.

Rahne headed over to the elevator in the back, and the doors slid open to accept her and take her to the control booth. Once within, she switched on the microphone.

"Alright, test, test - okay, good, we're on," she nodded her head as she spoke to Angelique over the PA. "So here's what we're gonna do. First things first, I'm gonna put ye into a jungle - one with varying colors an' textures. First we're just goin' to practice a bit, get ye focused on mimicking colors an' patterns - oh, right, but first, tap yuir belt buckle, that'll activate its tone match feature - I had 'em put it in just f'r you - it'll make yuir outfit match yuir skin tone when it's turned on. Anyway, first, ye copy some scenery around ye, get yuirself practiced a bit - then we put it to the test. I'll explain the test once we've done the practicing. Any questions?"

She smiled as Rahne insisted it wasn't anything important and nodded a little. She knew the wolf-girl didn't mind doing things like this for her students, but even so, Angie didn't like interrupting her private life for more schooling. It just didn't seem fair. But she had Rahne's promise that it was nothing, so she faded back to her happy yellow. At least now she'd be getting some real practice, rather than just trying to imagine something. Sure her imagination was great, but she just wasn't that good at thinking of mundane things like rips in wallpaper.

As Rahne told her she had an idea, she grinned a little and set the book aside, following Rahne into the room. As was usual, she moved to the center of the room and looked up at her teacher, watching as she headed up to the control booth. She looked down at her suit as she did, trying to remember how to turn on the feature that made it match her skin. As Rahne started speaking, she lift her head and listened. She nodded as she learned what she'd be doing, then looked down and touched the belt, smiling as the suit flashed yellow to match her skin. For experimentation, she flushed blue, then green, then white. The suit followed her color flawlessly and she grinned, fading back to a lighter shade of happy yellow. She looked up at Rahne and shook her head at the inquiry of questions.

"I'm ok. I'm ready to start."

She looked around confidently, waiting for the simulation to start. A jungle would be difficult. There were lots of patterns and textures for her to copy and she'd have to try and disappear from all sides. Her best bet would probably be to hug a tree and try to look like a lumpy growth or something.

"Alright, then," Rahne said, keying up the program. She wasn't the most computer fluent of the faculty, and to some she may have seemed ponderously slow on the Danger Room computers, but she did know what she was doing.

"We're beginning in three... two... one."

At the count of one, the Danger Room faded away, replacing cold steel with swirls of light as a jungle terrain materialized all around the girl. Lush greenery, large, formidable trees, sounds of exotic birds and monkeys hooting and chirping filling the air, the works. Mixed in with the surroundings were bits of rocky debris, ruins of a long lost civilization not at all unlike the opening scene to "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

The scene was, in fact, modeled after that opening scene, though not by Rahne herself. She suspected Doug or Kitty had programmed it, but she couldn't be certain. It was a good program though, very useful for this particular instance.

Sure enough, the jungle was hot and humid, the cool air conditioning of the Danger Room replaced with a simulation of what the actual environment would be like.

There we go. Now, just to make sure ye've got the idea, try blending in to a few different objects around here - get the hang of it, an' once ye feel comfortable enough with the concept, we're gonna put it to the test," Rahne announced. This was an exercise of the type that had been done with Rodney before, and considering the similar nature of their abilities, Rahne felt that Angelique could handle it too.

Granted, Rodney and Angelique were two very different people with very different personalities, so whether or not she would handle this in a similar manner was yet to be seen.

Angie looked up at the control booth and listened as she counted down to the start of the program. She looked around as the jungle started to manifest around her. She smiled and looked around for the easiest thing to copy. Looking down at her feet, she saw that she was standing on a bed of leaves and figured if she curled up, she'd look like a pile of leaves. She studied the pattern of the leaves, then lay down and curled up as she concentrated, doing her best to copy the color and pattern of the leaves. As her color changed, she very nearly disappeared. It was difficult to find her, but she could still be found by looking closely for her shape.

She looked at the leaves up close as she sat there and studied the close detail for a few moments before she altered her coloring again, blending almost perfectly as she did. She opened her eyes and looked up in the direction of the control booth. After a moment, she stood and returned to her usual yellow color. She was enjoying this, it was challenging. Looking around, she moved over and crouched by a tree, studying it for a few moments before leaning against it, wrapping her arms around it, and mimicking its appearance. She managed to blend in the color as well as she could, but one could still see her shape on the tree, no matter how she positioned herself.

Finally, she decided to try something else. Sitting on the ground, she stared up at the branches of the tree, memorizing the patterns. Once she was done from that angle, she moved to another angle and started studying. She did so from several more angles before she finally climbed the tree, positioned herself on her target branch, and changed her color, matching the shadows and shapes of the tree. After a few adjustments, she disappeared completely and grinned a little. A moment later, she hopped down and looked up to Rahne, smiling as she turned a happy yellow.
