BASIC INFORMATION

CANON OR ORIGINAL: Canon.
AFFILIATION: X-Men/Staff

FULL NAME: Kurt Wagner
CODENAME: Nightcrawler
NICKNAMES: Elf, Bamf, 'Crawler.

CURRENT AGE: 29.
DATE OF BIRTH: November 11th
MARITAL STATUS: Single.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual.
BASE OF OPERATIONS: Xavier's.
TIME AT INSTITUTE: 9 years.
HOMETOWN: Bavaria, Germany.
KNOWN RELATIVES: Margali Szardos (foster mother); Stefan Szardos (foster brother, deceased); Jimaine Szardos (foster sister). Kurt is not aware of his true parents, but (unknown to Kurt), it is possible that the shifter Mystique is his mother. Azazel, a powerful and demonic looking mutant may be his father. Kurt also has a paternal brother, Abyss, that he is not aware of.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE

HEIGHT: 5'9''
BUILD: Highly athletic, but towards the lean end.
EYES: Glowing Yellow.
HAIR: Blue... everywhere. Very fine and short.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: Kurt's body is prodominantly covered with distinguishing features, often described as demonic. Yellow eyes, fang-like canines, and pointed ears characterize his face. A prehensile tail protrudes from the base of his spine. He only has three digits, including the thumb, on each hand, and only two toes on each foot.
CLOTHING STYLE: Modified pants for the tail (he's become proficient at modifying his clothes himself), but otherwise quite casual unless forced to dress up. To hide his demonic features, Kurt will adopt a new visage with an image inducer, which makes him appear as normal as any man, so long as he tucks the tail in.
UNIFORM: Kurt has two variations of his suit, both with the same style but different colors -- red or yellow. His uniform is a blue-black body-suit that matches the base color of his fur with streaks of either color descending down around his neck and shoulders towards his abdomen, thighs, to his halves. His hands and feet are covered with special material that allow him to cling to various surfaces with miniscule suction cups. On his uniform's sternum -- the X-symbol.

POWERS

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Teleportation - Most notably his primary mutation, Nightcrawler's teleportation displaces himself in this dimension and through another, an extradimensional space that Nightcrawler calls the Brimstone Dimension. Whenever he teleports, the atmosphere of the Brimstone Dimension sinks through, leaving behind a sulfurous cloud where he previously was as well as where he arrives. This seepage, as well as the implosion of air caused by the vacuum created where he teleports from results in the characteristic "bamf" that accompanies his teleportation. Kurt consciously determines the point of his return and thus it is not psionic. To be blunt with scientific terms, Nightcrawler's power is the result of some physiological reaction which he automatically triggers in teleporting.

Kurt's power automatically displaces liquids and gases when he arrives at a new location (it is important to note this does not displace solids, explained in weaknesses). His teleportation also maintains the momentum he has prior to teleportation. To accomodate for this, Kurt typically takes a "two step" teleport backwards to slow himself down.

As part of his power, Kurt has a limited subconscious spatial awareness that prevents him from teleporting into matter. Despite this, he almost never teleports into an area he cannot see or is not familiar with.

Kurt can utilize his power on more than himself at the sacrifice of energy. Teleporting through the Brimstone Dimension is exhausting on those without some type of enhanced endurance, so while Kurt is used to such teleportations they are not and they will feel the consequences. Kurt will sometimes use this to his advantage and grapple foe and teleport several times.

Physical Mutations
  • Micro-Suction Discs - Small discs on his hands and feet, these allow him to stick to and scale surfaces.

Camouflage - Kurt possesses the ability to blend into shadows. While this camouflage is not perfect, it allows him to use the attributes of his body and the Brimstone Dimension to bend light to some small degree.

Prehensile Tail - The fifth appendage extending from the base of his spine, the tail is strong enough to lift an adult man completely off the ground. He may also use this as a weapon.

Flexible Bone Structure - Nightcrawler's skeleton gives him the highest potential in terms of flexibility. He is able to crouch for prolonged periods of time (he may sleep in this position in the right place), or perform feats that would make a contortionist jealous.

Infrared Vision - A property of his glowing eyes, he has the ability to see better than most people do at night. While it is not perfect, he can still make out most shapes and some details.

Reflexes and Agility - Nightcrawler's reaction time, agility, balance, and physical manipulation allow him to go beyond a normal human body's natural limitations.
Other Abilities/Attributes -
  • Image Inducer - When going into public settings, Kurt is often reluctant to do so given his appearance. To combat this, he uses one of many image inducers to make himself appear normal.

Melee Combat - Fighting in close quarters is Kurt's specialty. He is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat (with the abuse of his teleportation powers) and a master of fencing, which he can even perform with his tail. In his battles, he will use his Olympic-class acrobatics to gain the advantage.

Pilot - When Scott isn't manning the helm, Kurt may replace him. He is also works as a mechanic on the Blackbird, typically with Wolverine and a few beers.
WEAKNESS:
A great weakness of his teleportation is the probability of teleporting into something solid -- such as a wall. If Kurt miscaluclates a teleport or positions himself incorrectly, it is likely that he may teleport into a wall. As his power does not displace solids, his body will be trapped inside of the object.

PERSONALITY
Depending on where Kurt is, his personality changes. Among friends and other mutants (more-so with physical differences like himself), Kurt can be one of the most playful and, dare we say, "swashbuckling" demons around. He is a prankster by nature, gentle at heart, and he can be one of the most adamant friends to those he truly cares about. He has the ability to utilize his heritage as a performer and showman when communicating with others, making him quite charming. Sometimes it is possible for him to get carried away with his charms to the point that he is a womanizer.

With people he is not familiar with, Kurt is reclusive and withdrawn. This is due to his self-consciousness about his appearance, which is looked upon as a monsterous form or that of the devil. Throughout his childhood, Kurt was assaulted with names of affliction, associating him with demons and devils. Given that he is a Catholic, he finds this concept deeply troublesome. In recent years, he has developed a hardened shell towards people who use religion as a weapon to antagonize others. He is not of the belief that religion, Catholic or not, means that just because one is a mutant means he will not be allowed to enter the gates of Heaven. Kurt believes in the ability of coexistance between base humans and mutants, but it requires change in the world. Despite this, Kurt often questions God and his ways, his purpose in life, and the "curse" of his physical form and is a regular nightly visitor to the house of God.

Sometimes, usually after a few beers, Kurt's religious inhihibitions disappear and allow him to... Well, they say idle hands are the work of the Devil, and if she wants some of the furball...

Kurt is also bilingual in English and German, with some knowledge of Latin from scriptures he reads. He will often mix these languages when he speaks.

HISTORY
Kurt Wagner began his lift abandoned by his birthmother. He was found in a shelter, still wet and weak, hours after his birth. There, in the Bavarian Alps, he was discovered by the woman whom he would eventually considered to be his mother, Margali Szardos. She was a mutant regarded as a sorceress and a gypsy queen. At the same time he was discovered in the shelter, his father, Eric Wagner, was found on the road a short distance away. She would later tell Kurt that his mother was found dying beside his father Eric, but this was a fact that Kurt silently debated in his later years. Beyond this moment, Kurt was introduced into a small Bavarian Circus. Kurt was never legally adopted by Margali, but he nonetheless considered her to be his 'foster' mother. The circus as a whole became his family, each looking out for one-another for whenever they were in need -- it was the only place he ever knew where he was safe from persecution. In the circus, Kurt was introduced so Margali's natural children Stefan and Jimaine. They became fast friends.

In the circus, Kurt's natural abilities of agility gave him the job of acrobat and aerial artist. The tight-rope was his play thing and his trapeze was something to be envied. But at the circus, he was thought to just be a man wearing the costume of the monster and when accused of being such, he took it quite personally. There were times in his life where he wanted to kill himself because he was a monster.

From an early age he became consumed by the circus, finding personal salvation in it against the bigotry outside.
Stefan had believed himself to be under a curse and thought that he might do evil in the world. As a precaution, Stefan made Kurt promise that, in the event that Stefan was to be lured to do evil deeds and commit them, Kurt would kill him as well. This promise was torturous for Kurt to keep, as it would require him to slay someone so close to his heart. It would be many years before Kurt would find himself in the position where his promise must be upheld.

After several years, a Texas millionaire, Arnos Jardine, was visiting the circus that Kurt had grown up in. Jardine owned a large circus based in Florida, heard of the circus Kurt worked for and bought it. Jardine had the utmost intention to move the circus' best acts to the American circus. While this would not be a problem, Jardine demanded that Kurt -- monstrous and demonic in appearance -- would be placed in the freak show rather than the high-flying acrobatic acts Kurt had devoted his time to. Appalled and insulted, Kurt refused to be placed in the freak show and quit the circus, leaving for Winzeldorft, Germany where his foster brother Stefan was. There he discovered that Stefan's self-fulfilling prophecy had come true. Stefan had gone made and murdered several children. He was likely going to kill more as well, and so Kurt confronted him to try to appease Stefan's better senses and stop the rampage. This yielded no effect and in an attempt to stop him, Kurt accidentally broke Stefan's neck.

Ridden with guilt, Kurt was chased down by the villagers of Winzeldorf who thought it was he who was responsible for the slayings. Believed to be a demon incarnate, they intended to kill him, and were about to when a strange force came upon them. With a psionic strength that Kurt could not believe existed, the villagers were psychically stunned by the man known as Professor Charles Xavier, who had come to recruit Kurt into the X-Men. Out of thanks and in debt to Xavier for saving his life, Kurt agreed to join, but first he needed to explain the events that had transpired to his foster-mother. Upon returning to the circus, Margali was not found and Kurt was forced to leave with the X-Men.

Since then, Kurt has been with the X-Men ever since, only to leave occasionally in hopes of finding Margali. Throughout the years of his time with them, which amounts to roughly 7 years, Kurt had been with them through the trials and tribulations of the world. He learned much and became exceedingly more comfortable with his appearance. He still, however, questions his relationship to God and his purpose in life, although he no longer dwells in the depressions he used to experience.

Recently, Kurt has taken up several official positions around Xavier's Institute. He is the teacher of the German, Drama, and Fencing courses.

DURING APOCALYPSE:
During the End of Days, Kurt Wagner battled alongside his fellow X-Men and the allied forces of the other mutant factions. He found the experience to be terrible, taking the meaning behind the Apocalypse itself as a hint from higher powers that things were indeed changing. While he wished it were not, it was for the worst. Nevertheless, Kurt personally believes the Apocalypse was a test from God.

SAMPLE RP POST:

Hours after mass the scent of brimstone spread out before the altar, colored smoke of violets and grays with flecks of an ashy amber specks trailing as the conflicting atmospheres of this and the next dimension mixed. The smoke dissolved into the air, leaving only that smell of sulfurous brimstone to mix in with the lit incense. Standing below six feet, the clothed figure of a mutant looked up to the altar. Past the golden cross and chairs where priests would sit, Kurt's glowing eyes beneath a sheltering hat set upon the stricken and impaled figure of the Lord. Removing the covering, he set it on the banister in front of him.

A single finger, one of three on his hand, lifted to his brow and making the Sign of the cross on his person.

"Vater unser," he began, quietly spoken despite being the only person here, it was perhaps instinctive or purposeful that he whisper. The only voice meant to hear him was His voice, the only ears and power that would ever have a chance to hear him. "Der Du bist im Himmel, geheiligt werde Dein Reich komme, dein wille geschehe, wie im Himmel als auch auf erden.." He continued with the prayer, bringing himself a moderate amount of peace simply from saying the words. Besides his eternal confliction with himself and God, Kurt was a practiced Catholic, allowing himself some consolodation that despite his physical body, his soul was as worthy as a human's.

Silently, he let his mind wander. The death of Stefan, the guilt he felt, the blame he suffered, the persecution, the damnation, the salvation. With a lowered head and hands clasping the cross around his neck, Kurt knelt at the alter, channeling his sins to the Son of God with his native tongue. Mutants were no longer welcomed in the Church. With the death -- assassination -- of the Pope, they had all but been basically excommunicated. How could they blame all of mutantkind for this? It was all a foolish game. Those in power made the decisions. Those who held the golden fleece could choose the fate of many without a thought.

Here, however... Here is where he came every Sunday. Once it had been during the day, but now it was night. Luckily, with a bit of mutant flare, he could easily infiltrate the House of God. Maybe infiltrate isn't the right word...

"Kurt?" The familiar voice of the pastor said from off to the side. The tails of his coat raised, the arrow-edged tail sliding out from underneath the thick fabric to reveal itself as an affirmation of the pastor's question. Finishing praying, Kurt looked up and over to the pastor, who came closer.

"You did not come last week."

"Nein. Es tut mir Leid. I was... caring for my friends. They had some trouble." He cracked half a smile. Indeed, there were some problems with a few beers, especially on the Lord's day. "I came on Mittwoch. I had to speak with..."

"But you are not allowed to come," the pastor said with an ironic tone, without a hint of bigotry. Yes, he wasn't allowed to come. Kurt gave a shrug, turning away from the alter. Behind him, his tail twisted and lifted, hooking itself on the hat Kurt had placed on the alter. It lifted the hat, clealy placing it atop of his head.

"But I am allowed to leave, ja?" White teeth revealed themselves in a full smile as he looked over the high collar of his coat. "Gott Segnen Sie, Vater."

Great bio, much as I expected from you. You have my stamp, looking forward to seeing Kurt in play by such a good writer.

However I'm stamping this on the understanding that you're not to drop any more characters. If you drop any more I won't be allowing you to take up another character thereafter.
