Rahne nodded her head solemnly as the girl made her reasonings clear. Even amongst the outcasts, she felt like an outcast herself. Which, really, seemed to be fairly common of teenagers. They all feel like they're the ones who are the odd ones out, they're the ones who are unlike anyone else. "I understand," Rahne said with a slight nod of her head. "Well, we meet every other Wednesday out by the waterfall in the woods at four in the afternoon. Ye feel like meetin' up with us, be my guest. The group's been overall fairly small - myself, Robert Austin, Jack Russell, an' Victor Borkowski - others have gone in an' out, but we're the core of it all so far." She shrugged her shoulders, and gave a small laugh that came out through her nose. "And besides, who knows? Ye may just end up a wee bit more fishy 'n anyone realizes." At the abrupt sound behind them, Rahne sprang to her feet and spun around, stance hunched low, arms out to her sides with hands tensed. The fur at the back of her neck stood up and a low growl emanated from her throat. "Good Lord, boy," she sighed as she relaxed upon seeing the student. What was it with boys needing to sneak around in the presence of women? Sure, Rahne should have noticed him, but her attentions were held elsewhere. "Make sure ye've got steady footing 'fore ye come on out. One trip up here an' it's a good long stay in the Infirmary." |

Jayne smiled at Rahne's invitation to join the class. Maybe she would find someone she could identify with. It seemed to be a small enough class that she could be heard, even if she did stand out a little. She'd heard of the cat boy, Robert Austin, and the other wolf-ish mutant, Jack Russell, and she knew they were all land-type mutants. Hopefully though, they would stand out just enough among the general mutant population of the school for Jayne to fit in. Maybe. Rahne really seemed to know what she was talking about, and Jayne liked that. She inched closer to the teacher, as a slight breeze rustled her hair. "Thanks, Ms. Sinclair" Jayne said shyly smiling at Rahne, "I think i'd like that a whole lot!" She was beginning to feel very much at ease. Enough to stretch out a little on the roof. She reached back behind her, making two fists on the small of her back, cracking it. As she did so, her feet kicked out, and hit a loose tile making her jump. "oops," she laughed "Sorry, ma'am, I'm kinda clumsy on dry land!" her smiled widened slightly, before fleeing her face all together. She heard a crash, and she yelped in terror. She could feel herself shaking, her heart screaming in her chest. She really was going to die. Never mind about Rahne being on the roof with her, she was going to die. She put a hand to her heart when she heard Rahne talking to the person who'd created the noise, a boy, and Jayne looked over curiously. She steadied herself on the roof, her palm flat on the tile as she spoke. "Hi, are you okay?" She asked, concernedly leaning over a little further. |

When it came to meeting new people Ray considered himself a complete novice. He was quite often shy, had a penchant for stuttering, and was quick to get flustered in the middle of a conversation. He certainly wasn't antosocial but he had a hard time speaking to others. When he saw the two people sitting on the roof his first instinct was to simply sneak away. Unfortantley, it seemed fate wouldn't simply let him walk away on that night. No sooner had he taken his first step that he had soon fallen over. After he deduced that he was all in one peice he saw that the two people were looking in his directioj then, it seemed that the spotlight was on him now. the first person he noticed was the wolfish looking woman. Upon hearing him crash she seemed to have jumped into an attack position. Upon figuring out he was nothing but a harmless student she offered him a word of caution regarding falling and roofs. Ray just laughed nervously and ran his hand through his hair. "I'll try and be more careful next time," he muttered sheepishly. He could already feel his cheeks growing to a warm red. He recognized the woman as a professor... Sinclair or something like that. He didn't exactly know what class she taught though, nothing that particularily concerned him though. It was then that he saw the other person on the roof. A girl, this one looking to be a student he had never met before. Judging by her hand on her heart Ray figured that he had given her a but of a fright. After recovering from the intial shock she asked him if he was okay. "Er- I-I'm fine, n-nothing but a b-bruised bum," he stammered. He hated that nervous habit, it always surfaced when he was stressed or in an otherwise uncimfortable situation. "Er- I can leave if you were busy...or something," Ray offered. Though he knew he could stand to meet a few new people he was still a little embaressed by the whole falling thing. It was then that a delightful aroma hit him. "is that...chicken?" |

"Not a problem," Rahne said with a small smile and a nod of her head. She figured it was probably a good idea to familiarize the girl with the group anyway, just in case she needed it in the near or not-so-near future. She couldn't be certain, and it was entirely possible that she was completely wrong, but gills and webbed digits seemed to be the first signs of a secondary mutation to come, and if the girl actually did become more fishlike as she grew older, then she would probably benefit from it very much. So perhaps it wouldn't be a terrible idea to keep tabs on the girl, and be ready to play a supportive role should she need it. She chuckled as the boy stammered nervously, or perhaps it was more embarrassment than nerves. Either way, he wasn't terribly comfortable. "Hey, so long as yuir nae leapin' to the ground below or stumblin' an' fallin', 'tis alright," she said with a nod of her head. "So come on, introduce yuirself, have a seat. I dinnae bite, honest." She laughed lightly as the young man noticed Rahne's late-night snack, her laugh sounding in small part like a canine bark. "Sure, sure, help yuirself. I've got a drumstick and two thighs left." |

Jayne blushed on the boy's behalf when she heard his stutter. He rather reminded her of herself, she realized, in that he was probably shy, like her. It was a good thing there were other people on the roof then, otherwise, she and .. this boy, would probably never assimilate correctly. She knew how hard it was to be shy, even if you were a normal human, she remembered being shy as a kid unless she was around her brothers. She knew it was worlds harder to be social if you were different. To some people, socializing came naturally, but Jayne was always glad to find someone she felt she could identify with. "Naw," She said softly, "It's fine if you stay..." Even though Rahne had just said something to him about it being Okay if he stayed, Jayne thought it better if, because he was shy, he got two words of affirmation. She hoped it would make him more comfortable. He did have a terrible stammer. She smiled slightly as he said something about the chicken, and smiled even wider when Rahne offered some of her chicken to him. She was a nice person, and Jayne was glad to have met her. She felt herself begin to relax again, and she laid back down on the roof, stretching a little. Let them have their chicken. Jayne knew it was easier to handle other people eating meat around her if she didn't focus on it, if she did something different. She could feel a breeze again, and it was slightly chilly, but to Jayne, it felt nice. Having other people on the roof was nice too, and she wanted to talk to the boy, be more open, after all, he seemed to be at least as nervous as she was, if not more. "I'm Sarah- Jayne by the way," She said offhandedly, sitting up a little and looking at him before laying back down, "Most people call me Jayne though..." |

The professor didn't seem so bad in fact Ray thought she was actually kind of nice. Most of the teachers he had ever had were either real jerks or simply oblivious. It was nice to know that there were actual teachers who could communicate with students. After Ray apologized for his clumsiness she had told him it was alright as long as he wasn't tumbling off the roof. Ray couldn't help but crack a small smile, her speech and cheery nature was actually kind of comforting. It was then that she told him to go on over and introduce himself, Ray felt a twinge of embarrassment again. Introductions, along with many other forms of socializing, were not exactly his forte. The girl agreed as well telling him he could stay. Despite his misgivings Ray walked closer to the two of them, jamming his hands in his pockets and looking down slightly. Rahne laughed when Ray took notice of the chicken aroma. Ray was a tad shocked to hear the almost canine like bark that served as the professor's laugh. She told him to help himself to some of the food, it hadn't really occurred to him before but Ray was feeling a bit hungry. "Thanks," he muttered with a smile as he sat down near the two of them and picked up a nice drumstick. He bit into it ravenously, if his mouth was full it meant he wouldn't have talk yet. He was concentrating intently on the drumstick when the girl introduced herself. Ray chocked down the mouthful of meat before responding himself. "Er- I'm Ray," he started. "People just call me Ray." He fell silent for a moment before he figured the best thing to do would be to fully introduce himself. A name was a good start at least. "I just got here about two weeks ago, I'm still trying to get used to this whole... thing here. Being a mutant in a mutant school and all." Ray muttered the words mutant quietly, it felt weird to say it, almost hateful. |

"Hullo, Ray," Rahne said with a nod and a smile. "Rahne Sinclair, but I think it's probably best ye stick with 'Miss Sinclair', 'specially around any other staff members." Rahne glanced at the two students on either side of her, getting the feeling that both were grateful for her presence, if only because she was far more comfortable with conversation and social interactions than either of them were. Sarah-Jayne didn't seem to be the most outgoing of people, and she expressed a desire to have more friends, which usually indicated difficulty in making friends to begin with. Ray, upon observations, was seemingly shy, almost painfully so. Understandable, really. Some guys just got nervous and clammy around girls, not much else to it. "Well, if ye've got questions, go ahead an' ask. Any time, really. I teach the wee ones, but my door's always open when I'm outside o' class. I'm more than willin' t' help ye with anythin' ye need." She pondered the meaning of his tone for a moment. It was possible he was raised with anti-mutant sentiment, only to later find out he actually was a mutant. It happened fairly often, unfortunately. People were afraid of mutants, uncomfortable with the idea of mutation, and for some people, mutating themselves became an exercise in self-loathing. It was sad, but true. |
