Kimberly was unsettled. The past few weeks her mind was consumed with another world. Mostly it happened in her sleep, but there were times where it leaked into her waking world, where everyone said she was someone different entirely. Someone she worked so hard to not be.

Her name was Aqua. She was a bitch. She was a skank. She was rich. She was popular. She was successful. Kimberly also noted that she was an alcoholic, nymphomaniac and worst of all, she had alienated all the good people in her life. Kim felt so sorry for Aqua. Aqua even refused to use her human name anymore, and as far as Kimberly could tell, in that world, her parents were still alive.

She had wondered if that was the place Jet and Scott had wandered off to. If in that world there was a copy of everyone, some slightly different, others drastically different.

Kimberly was scared for herself, and so, as she did when she was afraid, she found herself at the waterfall. Her control was slipping though, she couldn't hold water as long as she could before, or feel its presence with as much clarity as before. Before, in this place, Kimberly could feel water all over the world, like the planet was covered in veins. Now she could hardly see past the school grounds. The only time that happened before was the apocalypse.

Fear gripped her and she needed to just calm herself, but it was difficult. Her mind, was something that was usually alone, but lately Aqua's voice filled it. Consumed it. Fleeting bits of thought and emotion. Sometimes she fell through, and was in Aqua and in that other world. No Jayson. No Kel. No Tommy.

Aqua had distanced herself from others in such a intense way, never making any friends cause she didn't trust people anymore, that Kimberly did not know what she would do if she got stuck. If she didn't have the people she loved so much anymore. It made her appreciate what she had.

She stepped out onto the water. The surface was as solid as ever, it was like walking on a water bed. It shifted slightly under her, as if it was going out of its way to hold her up. It was second nature now.

She heard her cellphone buzz from the shore, assuming it was Tommy who she texted obsessively, she just let it be. She told him where she was.

Then it happened again, her vision blurred and her thoughts shifted. And at the same time as Aqua passed through her consciousness, her control collapsed. Then there was blackness, and then she was laying in Aqua's bed.

Aqua gasped for air. It was like some terrible drowning nightmare. She knew otherwise however. She knew that she was in Mazu's body. It had more control than she did in her own body, but for some reason, she was disconnected from that part of herself. Instead she was floating downwards towards the bottom of the pond unable to move her arms, move water, or call for help.

She could feel everything though. It stung. She could feel every molecule of water in the world. She blinked for a moment and realized she was feeling alot more water than there was even earth. She was feeling all the water that was in her world as the connection to her real body in her real world was disconnected, because then suddenly a world's worth of water vanished from her perception.

Tommy had begun to wonder if life for anybody would ever get back to normal. What's more, he wondered what normal even was, if it ever existed. Part of him was sure this 'normal' he kept searching for was something created by the greeting card companies to make money like Rudolph or global warming. Or wait, was global warming real ? He never quite understood how greeting card companies would profit from that but whatever.

The white haired boy sped through the lush scenery of the Institute. It was beautiful in every way. The warm weather had sent the flowers in bloom and heated up the landscape like some delicious Tennessee Williams play. To look at him would be to assume he hadn't a care, and that was not an accident. Tommy worked very hard to give off the impression he was taking it easy. People liked that about him. The fact that he was easy going and that the trails and tribulations that seemed to bring others to their knees rolled off him like beads of rain was something of a comfort to those around him he assumed. He was one less person they had to worry about.

Still, if the truth were to be known, he had something of a heavy heart. There was no way around it. Life had been too cruel for too long to people he cared about for him not to have been affected. Billy was a blubbering mess. Just when he had found his brother, just as they had together unraveled the mystery of who and what they were, he had been yanked away, replaced by someone or something unfamiliar. Kimmy, the girl he cared about beyond reasons that could explain it, had been through a tragedy of her own. She had lost her parents. Suddenly the tragedy that he had been trying so hard to run from had hit home in a big way.

He was afraid he wasn't much help, like he was hurting her even. Here he was, just finding his family and she was losing hers. Some boyfriend he turned out to be. That would stop today. There was nothing he could do about Billy. That was beyond him. Kimmy however, he could hold her in his arms and tell her all would be okay. He would tell her that he would make sure she was taken care of no matter what, and he would make her believe it.

She wasn't in her room. She had sent him a text telling him where she was, but he didn't need it. She knew her well enough to know where she would end up in times of distress. He made it to the waterfall in an instant. She was nowhere to be found. That was odd, was he losing a grip on his girlfriend. Then suddenly, he saw her. She was under the water. What was she doing under the water ? She can't breath underwater. Can she ?

Tommy leaped into the water after her and swam down to his love.

A boy Aqua recognized from the dreams where she was Mazu pulled her from the water. She gasped and water gushed out of her throat. She rolled over onto her knees and coughed and vomited water up. She gave one last gasp for water and rolled onto her back. Her eyes were different, something Mazu had, Aqua lacked.

Aqua had realized something a long time ago. Mazu had so many things that she lacked. Family formed from good friends, a caring boyfriend, a high school education. She envied Mazu but would not say it out loud. She just stared up at Speed, with a vague sense of hate in her eyes, but not hate for Speed. Hate for all the things Mazu found in her world, that Aqua could never find.

Aqua starting crying. She had tried telling herself so many times that Mazu was just a dream. That her world was fake and that eventually the nightmares would stop, but it seemed that in her dreams she had crossed over into Mazu again, this time she was awake though.

Until the thirtieth, when Aqua and Mazu flickered, the two had been asleep. They shared dreams in that way, but eventually Aqua and Mazu fell out of that strange sync, and these things happened. Now Aqua was sober, soaking wet, and very aware of where she was. There was a kind of clarity in it.

She coughed again and pulled herself to her feet. "Thanks..." She couldn't place the boy's name, though he was in every dream that goody Mazu had. "I... must have blacked out or something..." Aqua was looking around wildly, trying to figure out where she was.
