Date: June 5th 2010 Time of Day:Mid-Afternoon Locations:Xavier's School For The Gifted Synopsis: Tabitha's first day back after being gone from the school to explore the world, join shield and fight with Apocalypse. Coming back to the only place that sorta felt like home to her. Characters: Open to All Tabby walked along the woods, trying not to sulk. Nothing felt right anymore. The wind blowing against her carried different scents than those of her childhood. People drove crazier in the city then when she had left. Even the school she had called home grudgingly for three years didn't feel like the same hope filled, awe inspiring place it once was. She felt a little bad deep down for being so nit picky over everything. But she just wanted to find her niche in life. The one place that was truly and totally all about Tabby and she felt secure and welcome. She should be grateful that she had a place she could go back to and where people cared about her and were willing to watch out for her. Others had not been so lucky. It had been months since it all happened but as with any tragedy there was always a slight undertone, a slight feeling that it was never really over. That even if the threat was gone, the pain and the lingering mess would always be there. It still left a difference in the way things looked. She didn't think it was the colors, or the focus, but... Perhaps a comparison would be that it was similar to watching through a window, except it applied to everything? It left the world with a slight hint of unreality. And Tabby just really wanted a reality she could grab hold of and enjoy... “Least the grounds are still as pretty as ever...” |

A low growling would suddenly become audible from behind Tabitha, and were she to turn around, she'd notice a reddish-brown wolf standing atop a boulder of a fairly decent size, forelegs spread wide, head low, the fur on the back of the neck raised, lips curled back to reveal sharp, deadly fangs. It was a natural reaction for Rahne, especially when she was in her full wolf form (which she did on frequent occasions, to keep herself sharp, exercised, and because it served as a very effective stress reliever), to treat someone she had no knowledge of wandering through the mansion's woods as an intruder. She didn't know everybody at the mansion by name, at least as far as the students went, but she was at the very least passingly familiar with their scents so that she'd know if they belonged or not. This woman, she didn't know from Adam. She cautiously stepped down from the rock, and began to circle the young woman, golden eyes trained on her, ready to watch any move she might make. With what they'd seen of late with all this world-swapping stuff, it was difficult to tell who to trust, who to allow safe passage to, who to treat like a threat. Canine instincts pushed her in the direction of treating any and all strangers as a potential threat until proven otherwise. It was a simple case of mistaken identity, but Rahne didn't know that. Or else it wouldn't have been mistaken. Rahne's arc placed her between the stranger and the rest of the mansion, which was intentional on her part. Keep herself between the intruder and the rest of the school, keep her people safe. That was the idea, at least. |

growls? Growls? Seriously? In the woods, my first week back and I am going to get eaten alive...this is just fantastical! “Ummm nice puppy? Who's a nice puppy doggy?” It was the first thing that came to her mind. Might not have been the best idea, but she had never been faced with a wolf before. So she was working out the details on this one. She had handled all kinds of crazy things in her life but a wolf, in the garden of a school...something brand new. She made a small orange orb in her hand and softly waved it in the air trying to get it's attention off her. “Wanna play fetch? Huh? Wanna get the shiny ball of energy?” She gave the biggest smile she could as she threw the ball off into the woods as far as she could with the small 5 second fuse on it. one “Go on go get it....” two “Come on...go find the ball?” three “Great...i'm going to be a new brand of kibble and bits...” four “Your pup hungry? Give her some Boom-Boom and Steak put the extra bounce in your dogs step!” five As she said five to herself in her head there was a small explosion off in the woods. Maybe she would get lucky and the wolf would run and see what it was or get scared...either worked for her. She held her hands up as if to say I come in peace and gave the wolf a small hopeful smile. “I come in peace? I'm sorry I forgot the Scooby snakes in my other purse?” |

Rahne hunched down a little further, not liking this at all. Who was this person? What was she doing around the school grounds? What if she was a Brotherhood agent? They knew where the school was thanks to that alliance during Apocalypse... what if she was a government agent? What if... The borderline paranoid possibilities continued to run through her head, the idea that this stranger was simply someone who actually did belong here but she hadn't been introduced to not occuring to her. When in full wolf form, she was at her most territorially protective. Her canine instincts were at their strongest, her human rationale at its weakest. Rahne certainly didn't expect a glowing orb to manifest in the young woman's hand. She was further confused when she threw it way out into the distance. What was this girl doing? What was that thing... BOOM Rahne flinched, the fairly loud sound of the explosion wreaking a bit more havoc on her sensitive ears that normal humans wouldn't have had such a problem with. She reflexively shifted to her more humanoid form, remaining half-wolf, and brought her hands up to the sides of her head and covered her ears as she staggered backward a bit. She wasn't braced for an explosion, that was for sure - and further, her clothes weren't stashed anywhere near here. There was a fairly loud ringing in her ears, and she shook her head to regain her bearings. "Who are you an' what's yuir business here?" she growled, slowly lowering her hands from her ears as she stood low, partially to remain ready to attack if necessary, partially to keep certain parts out of view. |

“Holy dancing with wolves you can talk!” Tabitha stared at her. Talking while not the craziest thing wasn't something she had thought about. She was at a school for mutants, so a wolf girl who was running around in the woods naked should be something you expect...ok maybe not. But still the talking shouldn't have surprised her quite as much as it did. She chalked it up to the fear of being eater. “Please don't eat me...” She manged in a meek voice the fullness of what was going on sinking in slowly as she shoved her hands in her pockets and pulled out a crumpled, dirty, slightly torn laminated id card. It had a picture of a younger girl on it..with a god awful hair do that she at some point thought was the greatest thing ever. “I'm Tabitha Smith....I use to go to school here see.. way back in the day when like MC Hammer pants were cool and I thought that haircut was hot...but yeah um. I'm back now...so um hi! Everyone calls me Tabby!” She extended her hand and then retracted it slowly realizing for the wolf-woman to shake it she would have to not cover her female parts...and hairy female parts was not on her list of things she really wanted to see in her life time ever... |

"Of course I can talk..." Rahne answered, tilting her head a bit to the left. "An' why would I eat you, I... oh..." Her eyes fell on the old ID card, and a slight pink blush became visible underneath the fur on her face. "Oh my... I am so sorry, I thought...okay, okay, I dinnae really think there at all, but..." With the one free hand that wasn't covering herself up, she scratched at the back of her head. This was embarrassing, to be sure. She had just assumed, and... "I, I really dinnae mean to... okay, no, I did mean t' frighten ye, but... wow. Heh... I am very, very sorry, an', well, clearly quite embarrassed by all this." She glanced down at herself, and heaved a sigh. "I suppose I really should take a satchel of some sort with me when I go on these runs in case I have to shift back... could have avoided myself a good bit of... um... awkwardness..." She extended her free hand, a sheepish smile on her face, keeping the other arm crossed across her chest and her tail curled around front. "Rahne Sinclair. I teach here, actually. Again, really, very very sorry about... ye know... I'm just very... territorially defensive... when I shift all the way like that. So uh... I suppose I should probably go grab my clothes... I am so very sorry, this is not the way I prefer t' meet with people, I swear." |

“No...worries...heh....” Now it was awkward for both of them and tabby shifted from left to right holding onto her own arm as she tried to think of a way to make this less embarrassing...if that was possible. Her eyes shifted from side to side as she raced through things she could say. “Weathers nice huh?” That was dumb... “It's nice to meet you by the way Rhane. So you teach cool! I dunno what I am going to be doing here yet. The administration seems to be in a bit of an hmmm odd place at the moment I guess would be the best way to put it.” She grimaced a little thinking of her unpleasant first meeting with Ruby it was an odd way to come back. But just about as odd as her first official day out and about had been. So in her mind this was all just going par for course as her already weird life just got weirder. “Umm maybe we can go back to you trying to eat me it seemed less awkward for the both of us.” She threw it out there with a playful smile trying to cut through some of the tension and uneasiness the pair found themselves in. it had been an odd first meeting and she could only imagine what else her first day back would hold for her here... |

"Well, we do have plenty of positions, really - I mean, the students outnumber the faculty by a good bit, an' I'm sure we can find somethin' that suits yuir talents, whatever they may be..." she glanced around, glad that for the moment, nobody was coming by. The longer they lingered here, the longer she ran the risk of becoming the center of attention, and that wasn't attention she was particularly keen on receiving. "Oh, this is silly," Rahne sighed. Neither of them were getting anywhere fast, and it was pretty clear what the obstacle here was. "We're both grown women, right? I've got a t-shirt an' shorts stashed in a tree trunk a couple o' meters this way, 'tis a short walk - if'n ye dinnae mind, ye can accompany me, I'll get dressed an' then you an' I can meet in a far more comfortable setting over tea an' biscuits. How's that sound?" She began to walk in the direction she had left her clothes in, pausing to glance back at Tabby, giving off a small smirk. "Ye know, this'll probably be somethin' we look back on and laugh at... I hope. It really is quite absurd when ye think about it." |

Whelp to the clothes! Was all Tabby could really do she followed Rhane but lagged a few steps behind, while it was true they were both grown women...it still was not sight she was super eager to see. She trotted behind letting her eyes wander and take in all the pretty colors of the campus around them. “Biscuits huh? Long as there is no gravy attached to them, then well I am game for munchies and girl talk.” She never really got the whole gravy on your biscuits thing...and she was in no mood to start trying to get it now. Good old Jam was the way to go and there was no two ways around it. She was even more excited to see Rhane in clothes and see if the rest of the wolf woman look went away or if she was always a shaggy half dog half human type person. “O, I'm sure we will laugh a lot about this. I spend most my life..laughing at my life it seems. So you said your a teacher. What you teach here? I don't think I could ever really be a teacher. The whole dealing with myself thing kinda scares me...maybe a mentor or personal life coach or something but teacher no way." I gave my shoulders a shrug. You had to be a special person to be a teacher and well...Tabitha was just not that special! |

"No, um..." she paused a moment, sniffing at the air before picking a definitive direction. There, in the nook between the trunk of a tree and a low-hanging branch, sat a tightly wadded up ball of clothes. She quickly slipped on the red gym shorts and followed it up with the white t-shirt. "Biscuits, I mean like... oh, shortbread cookies? Very nice with tea. Not so much with gravy," she chuckled, heaving a sigh of relief. She glanced down at herself and brushed some tree debris off of her as her body gave off a quick and sudden shudder. The transition was quick, and might have been missed were Tabitha to close her eyes, but in one moment, Rahne was half wolf. The next, she was fur-free, fair-skinned, and a bit more slight than the fur made her appear to be. "There we go," Rahne said with a soft, closed-mouth smile. "Oh, I teach primary school, with the kids starting at five years to ten. I am lookin' for a co-teach, though - basically to help with one age group while I work with another - ye'd be surprised how difficult it is to find good help." She wasn't going to ask Tabitha if she'd like to fill that position, but it was something she felt perfectly fine with leaving open. Not everyone was comfortable with kids, she understood that much. "An' if'n ye dinnae mind my askin' - what do ye mean by that? Dealin' with yuirself scares ye?" |

She glanced back over and poof! She was back to normal. And her eyes got a little wide then back to normal. People and their powers always fascinated her. And it would seem Rhane was like a real life werewolf! Which was pretty sticking cool. “Ah those biscuits. Never had those. Guess I've met one to many southerns who like to plop thick nasty gravy all over there biscuits. Looks like a heart attack on a plate to me. But I'm always game for cookie like foods.” Tabby smiled as Rhane explained her job to her and what she did. Man. Tabitha didn't know how she could do it, she was about 90% sure she would give the little kids a time bomb to play with if it made them be quit or behave. Rhane asked her what she meant about getting ones like herself, Tabitha paused for a moment to try and think about how best to explain it. “Well... I wasn't the best student when I was younger and well kinda the whole what goes around comes around. I was all for time bombs in the teacher desk to get rid of grade books, or little one in the chalk dust pile make it fly everywhere. Talk in the back of class all that good stuff. I was far from the good student and normally was ranked with the rebels or class clowns and I could only imagine the class karma would bless me with...” She gave a small shrug. Not much about her had changed, now she was just smarter and sneaking with it all or at least she liked to think she was. |

"Oh, no, no. Nothin' spoils a good slab o' meat like gravy," Rahne said with a small laugh. A part of one of the more subtle manifestations of her canine nature was a tendency to prefer her meats on the rare to medium rare side, and very very plain. No seasonings, no sauces, none of that. Just a barely cooked slab of meat was just fine for her. "Ahhhh," Rahne nodded her head in understanding as Tabitha explained what she meant. She wasn't literally afraid of herself, but rather afraid that as a teacher, she'd get a student who behaved as she did. That made sense. "Well, honestly? Who better to understand how to deal with a misbehavin' student than one who misbehaved herself? Seems t' me like ye'd have a good bit of inside knowledge," she shrugged her shoulders. "But teachin's nae for everyone - if it was, I think teachers would be treated a wee bit better in this country o' yuirs. Ye may want t' consider being a guidance counselor, someone who can help, ye know, help the more troubled kids through rough patches. I mean, there's so much to do here at this school an' it seems sometimes like there's never enough people to go around t' do it, ye know?" Rahne led the way back towards the mansion, running her right hand through her short hair. It was, before too long, in view. |

“Yeah I've thought about something like that, talking to Scott and Jean about doing like a mentor thing or big sister type deal maybe? I dunno I'm just tired of getting slapped around by the world and want to see something different besides one world ending crisis to the next, a smile or happy moment would be nice.” She said with a shrug she wasn't totally sure if that was even possible anymore. But being the ever hopeful happy go lucky girl she tried to be Tabitha was holding out hope she could find it. And they do say you can find joy in the smile of a child...well that might not have been it exactly but she was sure it was something like that. “What about you? What made you want to teach the rug rats of the school?” She giggled a bit as she thought back to the awesome cartoon that amused her to end when she was younger. Rugrats, Doug and Salute your shorts were all the rage for her. “It seems like they would be the hardest ones to work, young, hyper and super powered sounds like a family comedy waiting to happen...maybe you can sell it to disney or something and be rich?” |

"I know, that'd be nice, right?" Rahne said with a light chuckle. If it wasn't ancient Egyptian pharaohs it was Brotherhood thugs mindlessly rampaging and murdering or it was the bizarre circumstances they found themselves currently in. "At the very least ye weren't around for the um... rejuvination stuff, that was... bizarre, to say the least," she shook her head, and sighed. "A good number of the adults became kids, some o' the kids grew up, an' everything was so damn bloody bizarre. Just came and then it went, an' we never figured out why. Strangest week or so of my life, I tell you. Babysittin' people I know t' be older 'n me." Once she made it to the doorway leading to the hallway nearest the kitchen, she pulled it open and waited for Tabitha to enter. "Oh, I've just kinda always worked with kids in one form or another. Way back on Muir Island, I was in charge of carin' f'r the youngest patients, taking care o' their day to day needs an' whatnot. Plus, since I myself was an early bloomer, I have a perspective on what it means to be a wee one with superpowers that most folks don't." |
