May 14th
Afternoon

It had taken more than a little convincing to paint a picture of Emil in anything different other than a purely negative light. Although Emil had agreed to 'play nice', he was still no more agreeable than an agitated snake, coiled and at the ready, fangs presented but not striking. Nonetheless, Emil was contented with being bodily free from the cage, although he was still tethered to this place by means of the null collar around his neck and having a constant 'attendant'.

He honestly didn't know how to make it any plainer that he wanted to be left alone. Peeling his lips back in a steely snarl didn't do the trick, as the collar reduced his strength to an above average human, making him far less menacing than usual. Despite how much he enjoyed his newfound liberation, it came with a price. The price today was the she-wolf who generally smelled like earth and a flowery shampoo.

Emil emerged into Jack's bedroom followed by a cloud of steam from the lavatory. His gaze flickered up to his companion for the day. "Are you to attend to me all day?" he grunted with irritation, smoothing a towel over his head to dry his hair. It was very plain that he had taken use of the hair clippers under the sink, having shorn off all of the flaxen curls and leaving Emil with a comfortable crew cut. Although he had not bothered to take a razor to his face, sporting a fair spread of facial stubble.

Emil would have settled for the stressed pair of jeans he had been wearing, but he had been urged to take on a sense of normalcy. He settled with a short-sleeved black v-neck and a pair of well-loved jeans, not bothering to search for socks or shoes.

He had noted on his first arrival that Jack's room was rather sparse of personal items. No pictures, no artwork. It was very similar to a cave, filled with things that were only absolutely necessary and essential; Emil held this aesthetic in regard, feeling more comfortable with the dark drapes concealing the sun from coming in from outside. Emil threw the towel onto the bed, purposely attempting to be negligent of what he did to the X-Man's room in a passive-aggressive manner.

It was a strange thing being Emil's chaperone. She both liked and didn't like it. She had always enjoyed Jack's company, and unfortunately, with him on an unwilling vacation to the other side of reality, this ws the best she had.

"Aye, looks like yuir stuck with me for the time being," Rahne sighed as she looked in on him, leaning against the doorframe. As always, she kept things simple with her appearance - a t-shirt taking the cover image from Paul McCartney's "Band on the Run" as its central image, a pair of khaki shorts, no shoes.

"But hey, think on the bright side. Of all the people ye could be stuck with, ye've got perhaps the one most willing t' tolerate ye, or... ye know, not drown ye in Shakespeare quotes," she said with a light chuckle. She wished that Emil hadn't shaved off Jack's hair, but took some solace in the probability that Jack was letting Emil's hair grow out.

"So what did ye have in mind f'r today?" she asked, glancing at the towel as he cavalierly tossed it aside. He was somewhat childish in so many ways, and she couldn't help but wonder if it was some sort of arrested development, like something preventing him from maturing fully.

It was unusual to fathom that Emil had been in the same place for almost a month. Lissa's condition made circumstances impossible to settle, and the screams of her transformation were alarming. She resisted too much, wearing her body out and making it that much easier for her Beast to take over. Emil relished the power that came with his abilities early on, willingly accepting the peak of instincts and rage. Lissa was young and afraid, and no amount of comfort could make it any easier; it was a fight to be fought alone.

Rahne made light of the situation, suggesting that she was the only one who could put up with his presence. He furrowed his brow slightly as she asked him of his intentions for the day. "Is there something expected of me, ealup?" Emil had the urge to ask if there was anything expected of Jack, as he was still unwilling to assume this straitlaced identity. He wasn't going to pretend to be something he wasn't, and this only lent to the practicality of shaving his head. The political situation of the world outside was relatively foreign to him, and he pressed further, almost with sarcasm as he sat down on the side of Jack's bed. "Are the catels to be trained?" Emil's brow furrowed further as he took a moment to put his thoughts into English. "What does 'he' do?"

Emil shook open the drawer of the nightstand next to the bed to distract himself from the current situation. His nostrils flared as the smell of a small stack of old, dusty books wafted from the drawer.

"Well," Rahne said, and she could tell that his hostility had not abated much, if at all. Was anything expected of him? She honestly wasn't certain herself. Nothing was really expected of the others. except that they behave themselves and whatnot.

"I wouldn't say anything was expected of ye, no," she said, stepping into his room and seating herself at the chair by his desk. She took a light sniff of the room - it hadn't been used in some time, and was a bit dusty, but otherwise clean. Jack wasn't a slob, thank goodness. They may have been canine in nature, but they didn't treat their rooms like they were dogs.

"We try t' let the kids have as much of a summer break as possible," she said. "So we go a wee bit easier on the classwork. Plus it helps us to focus on the current problem if we're nae so busy with training drills," she leaned forwad in her seat, clenching her hands together and and dropping them between her knees.

"He's got a wilderness survival course he teaches, actually. Takes a group of the kids out into the woods, minimal supplies an' shows them what it takes to make it on their own. He's a biker, he's a better cook than he gives himself credit for, and," she peered over as he opened up the drawer to reveal some old books, "well, I guess he's a bit of a reader, too."

She wasn't sure why he was suddenly interested in his counterpart, but it seemed to her like a good sign. Perhaps Emil was softening up, just a little bit.

Emil took out the anthology on the top of the stack as Rahne spoke, an eerie feeling creeping across his skin as he felt he had seen this same book before. He opened it tentatively to see the name 'Gregor Russoff' in a tidy scrawl in the corner and quickly slammed it shut. There was no point in doubting Jack Russell as being him, only he had far more leisurely life than Emil himself could have ever expected in his lifetime. But finding a way to settle in this stagnant routine only agitated him more; he felt as if he should be wary of something, and yet there was nothing to heed.

He put the book back and shoved the drawer closed just as Rahne began to describe the habits of his counterpart. Teaching children anything didn't necessarily peak his interest, nor did a motorcycle. Emil rarely cooked anything, hunting live prey to feed both his sister and himself. With his mother alive things had been different, but after what Lissa did he stopped caring about much else besides basic survival. He had little choice to quell his misgivings about what he could do for his sister and hoped that at least they would survive the family genetic mutation.

Lissa.

Emil went rigid as he tried not to think about the only person he cared for. If that boy--that pup--could not fulfill the sole mission of his position, or if he had any reason to believe that she had been killed, Emil would make sure that Jack did not come back to a pleasant life or a whole body.

"And where do you fit into this, ealup?" he queried sharply, showing no further interest in Jack's hobbies or past-times. "His sister is not here, do you take her place?"

"Where do I fit? I'm his friend, I think maybe the closest he's got here," she began to explain. He was certainly curious all of a sudden, wasn't he? He went from not wanting to know anything about Jack to apparently being pretty interested in his life - she had no idea why, but was very curious regardless. There had to be a reason, and she wanted to know what it was.

"We spend a good bit of time together, we go on runs in the woods at night, we talk... nothing deeper than that at the moment," she said with a shrug of her shoulders. "And I only just learned about your sister existing the night before he left and you took his place. As far as we know, she's still living safely and oblivious to the whole wolf thing in Europe. He stayed away from her in hopes that she'd never have to deal with what he deals with. So we dinnae know exactly where she is or what she's up to. But so far we've received no signals from Cerebro corresponding to another wolf-mutant, so that means she's not evolved, and f'r all we know, may never evolve. Or whatever the proper word is."

She leaned back and folded her arms at her chest.
"Alright, yuir turn. Why so interested in Jack's life all of a sudden? I thought you wanted nothin' to do with him."

Rahne crossed her arms across her chest after she had given Emil more information, accusing him of being interested in the pup. Emil snorted roughly, narrowing his eyes. "You mistake my intentions." He hunched his back and stood, his shoulders naturally stooping, reflecting a stance that was used to bearing the weight of his massive shoulders in his wolfen form. "I see a Jacob Russoff in a different life, and I see he is but a molâu." His words came between a fixed sneer, "He does not run as I have, or protect his sister as a brother should do."

He seemed almost thoughtful as he cracked his knuckles. "You find this elup endearing and... interesting." Emil remembered the tinge to Rahne's cheeks well enough. "You will understand if I do not see him as your do." His voice went hard and cold. "My sister slaughtered our mother; the fact that your lubito may fail to prevent such a thing from happening again is not admirable."

Taking this moment to look at her directly, Emil's eyes flashed like frost. "Elisabeta is my heart, but her heart is black. I can only hope for a body to return to if I ever leave this place."

"..does that answer your question?"

"Really? Because I see a Jack Russell who has sacrificed the chance to be with his family, to be with his sister, so as to keep his dangerous side from causing her harm. He ran to a place that could deal with what he is, that could teach him to cope with what he is, and become a better man for it. And he is in a much better position in this life than he could have been on his own - a lesson he will be able to pass on to his sister, so that she may have a better life."

She was getting irritated with Emil, but she refused to allow him to get the better of her. Refused to allow him the upper hand. He wanted to get the better of her, to provoke her - she was sure of it. She wouldn't fall for that. Not on his best day.

"So I hardly know what a.... mow lau... is, but I can make a damn good guess, an' ye could nae be much farther from the truth," however, she spoke with some anger to her voice, with a slight snarl, her words coming with enough speed and force to show her frustration with him.
"It takes a strong man to sacrifice what he wants for the good of what someone else needs, to better himself so that he may better others - somethin' a man like you knows nothin' about.

"An' so what if I find him attractive? Why wouldn't I? He's a good man who I feel a strong connection to, the whole wolf thing notwithstanding. What's it to you? Jealous?"

Ever since this new business about the switching around in his friends, Sam had been on edge; what if he switched? How did he know his counterpart wasn't some crazy yahoo that had no control over his powers or wanted to kill others?

But it was whatever, really. It was nothing he could control, besides staking out in holding cells or something, and that would be boring as hell. Besides, the way he and his colleagues were keeping track of his former friend, Jack Russell, whose counterpart was some batshit Romanian douche named Emil. And today, he would be accompanying Rahne as she babysat him.

The man had been robbed of his powers via a null collar, yet he was still very dangerous, and very, very creepy. As he had heard, he had a tendency of getting under his teammates skin, using nothing more than words and his spookiness, but Sam was not worried about his Scottish confederate, nor himself. Rahne was a well-grounded young lady, and he was pretty sure he wouldn't be seeing her lose her temper. A gal that could deal with ever-obnoxious children surely would not be miffed by some European wang.

The bumpkin made his way towards his teammate's room, and saw the two had already begun their day. He hadn't realized he was late, and was a little bit embarrassed. Before stepping in, he tested the waters by standing close to the door, their conversation within earshot.

"An' so what if I find him attractive? Why wouldn't I? He's a good man who I feel a strong connection to, the whole wolf thing notwithstanding. What's it to you? Jealous?"

Odd...Rahne did sound a bit angry. And the bumpkin had no idea that she had a thing for Jack, and finding this out made his inner schoolgirl want to erupt in "Ooh, scandalous!".

It seemed this was as good a time as ever to jump on in there, and the young man made a light tap against the door in a knocking fashion. "Hey, Rahne. He behaving?" Sam looked at the odd bird who had been assigned as his responsibility for the day, adding a very slight glare as he examined him. He...cut Jack's hair? Oh, hell, his buddy was going to get mondo pissed. "Don't think Jack's going to be too happy about him playing beauty shop. It's not even even on both sides." The bumpkin shook his head and crossed his arms in disgust.

Her temper was rearing its head, her patience having been tried and tried again by Emil's sneers. An' so what if I find him attractive? . . . What's it to you? Jealous? Emil bristled and picked up a corner of his mouth in a snarl, his voice rising,"I am not jealous, ealup." He seemed about to add something else when there was a knock on the door. "What?!" Emil barked at the intrusion, the door falling open to reveal the light-haired Sam Guthrie. Hey, Rahne. He behaving?

Emil glowered from beneath his brows at the boy. Sam glared back and made some remark about the way Emil had cut Jack's hair to Rahne. "Do not speak of me as if I am not in the room," he growled, his voice rumbling up from his chest. His fingers had already started to dig indentions into his palms, vexed by Rahne's accusations. "As long as I inhabit this body I will change it as I see fit." He shuddered to think as how long he might be trapped in Jack's body. There were many things he would have to change; he had been wanting to pull some weights or something ever since he had arrived, used to his own brawn and bulk. Emil hated sitting around and unable to do anything to aid his sister; making this body his own would at least distract him from his own helplessness.

"Really now," Rahne said as she folded her arms at her chest, canting her head to the left a bit. She must have struck a nerve, perhaps even hit on a fundamental truth about why Emil was so bitter and spiteful over his counterpart here. He was envious of what Jack had. It had to be that. She was absolutely certain of it.

Her eyes quickly darted over to Sam as he entered, his abrupt entry diffusing some of her agitation. She took a deep breath and let it out slowly, pushing it out through slightly pursed lips.

"Mister Russof's jus' bein' his usual charmin' self is all," she said with a small smile that belayed her frustration with the situation. She was already getting tired of the 'ealup' thing - the intonation he used with the word, the way he spat it out at her with some venom was starting to wear on her. It was hurtful, if only because it was Jack that was treating her with such disdain - Jack's body at least.

Good old Sam, though - always willing to come to a damsel's rescue, even if she wasn't quite in need of one. He was one of the more dependable people at the mansion - if he said he was going to be somewhere to do something, he meant it - and that meant alot to Rahne. She didn't want to keep dealing with Emil all on her own. It was an emotionally taxing thing.

"Well, good thing about hair is that it grows back," Rahne said with a sigh.

The little man in the room, once his trustworthy teammate, snarled at the bumpkin, which he found annoyingly rude. Immediately, Sam understood how he could even get the best of Rahne. After a little staring contest with the powerless man, Sam turned his attention back to Rahne. "Ah can see that. Wouldn't be surprised if you two ain't done fall in love or something." The man playfully winked at the lone woman in the room, and put his hands on his hips with a sigh.

Finding a place to rest his bones on Jack's bed, the bald bum again attempted to strike up conflict between Sam and himself, forcing an eye roll and a turn of his head in exasperation. "Son, long as Rahne and Ah are watching you, Ah'll talk about you as Ah see fit, and, honestly, Ah don't much care about hurting your feelings."

The bumpkin turned back to Rahne, and decided he would do his best to just ignore the other man in the room. "May be true, but until it does Jack's gonna be looking like a prison inmate. Just saying."

The mutant could see a bit of a long day ahead of him, and it wasn't much seeming that he would be having a whole lot of fun with the two of them. Rahne looked as though she was a little too flustered to be having fun and what have you. "So, what exactly is it that we're going to be doing with him? We just gotta sit here watch over him like he's our homicidal baby cousin or something?"

Although Emil had formerly expressed his distaste in the manner of which they were speaking to him, or rather, about him, they continued, nonplussed by his huff. Without his strength to affirm just how he felt, Emil could do little more than scuff and stomp his feet like a moody, petulant child. He growled as the word 'son' crossed Sam's lips, demeaning him further to this image. "I did not ask for a caretaker," Emil glowered, his brow furrowing in a way very unlike Jack.

Sam commented on what exactly should be done with the moody werewolf, referring to Emil as a 'homicidal baby cousin.' "I am no such thing," Emil snapped, folding his arms across his chest and stiffening his back. "If there is no task that I must perform, then do I have permission to roam the premise?" To do this task alone was obviously not a wise thing, as Jack was a very amiable person to the staff and students, whereas Emil was cold and hostile.

Some of the younger children loved Jack's wolfen form, despite how uncomfortable it made him to be around them while he was in that shape. They liked to climb on him and tug his fur--to them, he was just a big fluffy dog. But Emil, was a territorial pit bull, haunches constantly raised.

"Ye may not have asked f'r one, but yuir behavior has made it clear that ye need one," Rahne said, turning her attention back to Emil. The look she leveled at him was one that showed annoyance and irritation. He was so much like a child, or at best like a teenager, that it was difficult to see where he took his claim of superiority over Jack from. Emil lacked heavily in emotional maturity.

"What? An' try to escape? Under no circumstances," Rahne said, scolding him as if he were one of her students. "Perhaps ye could partake of a leisurely stroll under our supervision, but a roam about? Out of the question."

But it did bring up a good question - what were they to be allowing Emil to do while he was out and about? He had given them his faith, tenative as it was, but it was there - somewhat. They had to show something for it.

"But a task... a taaaaaask..." she rubbed her chin in thought, her eyes lifted up to the ceiling in thought. "Sam? What've ye got in mind as far as tasks go? Surely there's somethin' around here what needs doin', right? Somethin'...."

Yikes, Rahne was very clearly letting this jerk get to him. Before she exploded, Sam felt the need to ease the tension, a joke perhaps? It wasn't his specialty, but something about the man whose powers had been stripped of him via null cuff had struck him as silly. "Hey Rahne, don't the little guy remind you of one of those dogs who just got their privates taken from them and had to get put in one of those cones? Kinda like he wants to chew his private parts real bad but can't quite reach 'em. Ah almost wanna feel bad for the bugger."

The young man shrugged with a grin on his face, and returned his attention to his chore for the day. "Bud, you ain't going nowhere by yourself. Not that you'd be able to outrun anybody in this Mansion besides the youngins with all that bling bling." Unless it hadn't been apparent to the others in the room, he was still making cheap attempts at jokes. They were weak at best, but he really didn't want to see his old pal make a wrong move. This guy just really wasn't worth it.

"Sam? What've ye got in mind as far as tasks go? Surely there's somethin' around here what needs doin', right? Somethin'...."

Sam scratched at the bridge of his nose in thought, looking at the ceiling all the while. "Ah dunno, Ah mean there's always chores in the house that need doing. But watching someone do chores is about as fun as doing chores. Just sayin'. A leisurely stroll didn't sound too bad unles you had your heart set on a task." Bored with the topic of conversation, Sam shrugged a bit, sighing during this slight movement.
