July 1, 2 pm. OPEN to 2-3

The shock of Doctor dying had finally been eclipsed, by the shock of what people were allowed to do when they were their own responsibility, which turned out to be pretty much anything they wanted. There was no one around to tell you to bathe, or eat well, or go to bed, you were expected to yell at yourself to do them. And there was no one tell you you couldn't eat ice cream for breakfast, or walk around in your underwear, or read crime novels all day either. It was totally up to you to monitor and modify your own behavior. It was at once horrendously frightening and strangely freeing. The possibilities and the responsibilities all spiralled out into the ether of Shank's mind, galvanizing and petrifying him at the same time.

His meager belongings were set up in a room he'd eventually share, which was an unsettling thought. Not that he couldn't share, but... the whole idea of someone maybe seeing his metal parts, that scared him. After walking through mutant mansion he knew he wasn't anything really out of the ordinary, but he was still rather embarrassed about people seeing his... stuff.

Doctor had tried to introduce him to food dozens of times over the years, but had little success with things not liquid or liquid-like. Like Jello or ice cream or pudding or cranberry sauce from a can. Shank didn't like anything he had to chew. Grinding something into a pulp in his mouth and then swallowing the resultant mush was just incredibly unappetizing to him. And it felt weird too. Like he was swallowing little pebbles.

But! In his first act as an 'adult', Shank decided to eat ice cream. At a not ice cream eating time. This place had plenty of it (a staggering amount, really), and a lot of it was just plain, the way he liked it, with no little bits crumpled in it. Vanilla and chocolate swirled together in a pattern he couldn't see how they got to stay separate long enough to freeze, not that he was arguing. It was a brilliant idea. And darn tasty.

Hat pulled low, bandana off but feeling strange without it, Scott Henry Corrigan nursed his two scoops - now one and a half, letting the vanilla and chocolate melt together in his mouth, savoring the taste of personal responsibility. He was hunched over it, like a child hiding his test answers from nosy neighbors. His gloved hand held his spoon to his mouth as he thought about his situation, and what it might bring.

Besides scantily dressed blonde women in white who made offers he couldn't refuse. It was like a Bond movie except that Shank knew he would make a really crappy Bond. He was more like Dr. Horrible's sidekick Moist. Except... dry. So he was a non-wet pathetic extra relegated to an unimportant speaking part who ultimately had no further storyline.

I cannot be an extra in my own life, he thought glumly. I don't think that even works. What are these other kids going to think of me? Some shut in living in a basement with an old guy with a bedroom full of machines he plugs himself into. And god, that sounds dirty and pervy. I'm a dirty pervy extra.

But, he added, trying to make himself feel better, not wet.

It didn't work, and Shank went back to eating his now slightly melted ice cream. He couldn't even take pleasure in ruining his dinner. Poop.

It was the middle of the day on a Thursday day. Classes got out early, occasionally. Today happened to be one of those days. Today was the day that Alyson had decided to dye her hair blond; she'd done that in the morning and really no one had said anything about it all morning. That wasn't really surprising, as people around here weren't really the type to criticize... They were akin to being criticized almost all of their lives. That was the price of being a mutant. Criticism, racism, you name it. That was what the mutant's had to deal with... Daily.

The now blond was wearing a black tank top shirt, pair of blue jeans, and her usual pair of shoes. She was heading down the hallway and towards the kitchen and dining room, whilst it really didn't seem like an appropriate time of the day to be snacking... Aly didn't really care. When she was hungry, she was hungry. She wasn't going to force herself to starve like some of the other girls would do. That was insane. Three meals, plus snacks, a day for this psychic.

But thankfully they were only here and there. She was still a girl. She didn't want to lose her figure. It certainly wasn't like she was eating 24/7, just cramming her face with food. That's gluttony kids, and it's a sin. So don't be a glutton, children!

Please? Pretty Please? Anyways, Alyson was now nearing the entryway of the dining room. She'd seen Shank out of the corner of her eye, but really didn't pay him any mind, she thought he was just another one of the students of the institute that she hadn't talked to. Ever. That was Alyson's goal whilst still at the school, to talk to all of the students... At least once. She was working on it slowly but surely, and there wasn't really any clue at all as to when she would succeed in this task. But it would definitely take a lot of work.. Especially when one of those students had the power of Death Touch. Yikes, Death Touch. That was one power that scared Alyson.... Come to think of it, maybe that's what was happening to all of the roses that caused them to instantly target Monkey Joe about a month ago?

Maybe. Probably.

But that was a time for another matter, Alyson was now entering the kitchen. Walking up to the refrigerator, she opened the freezer and peered around inside. The only thing that really seemed appetizing was... Ice Cream. Wow. Alyson grinned deviously and quickly grabbed an Ice Cream sandwich from within the box and headed back out to the dining room, where the kid still sat.

"Hey,"

She said, quietly, sitting across from him, "are you new here?"

There was no such thing as a lazy day for Kelrian. The regen had more energy than a highly caffeinated child, at his resting state. Add anything to the mix, such as sugar, caffeine, or a particularly good mood, and he could spend an entire day without settling down once.

And today, he'd been in a good mood. He was still stressed about the 'switching' problem, of course, but talking to Alyson and Vic had helped. He wasn't the only one that knew, and he'd even let them convince him to speak to Jean about it... though he'd made certain Vic kept his word and joined him for that discussion. He might not have been able to do it otherwise. It hadn't gone badly, which brought up why he'd thought it would. Of course she was upset Scott was... replaced with a stranger. She was still the same Jean he'd known when he'd first come to the school. So, basically, all was right in his world, even if he ended up leaving it once in a while due to some kinda insanity.

He'd been out and about all day, having his morning run a little earlier than usual at five am, checking the perimeter of the grounds, checked what the pantry and fridge was missing, and took a trip out to get some groceries. After returning, he'd packed everything into the fridge, had a quick snack, and went out to the outdoor training area for a long, exhaustive exercise session. He'd just only returned, in fact.

After a quick shower, the young man made his way down to the kitchen barefoot and dressed comfortably in jeans and a white tank. Dinner was soon enough, but honestly he was starving and he just couldn't wait. The regen needed to eat quite a bit to make up for his ridiculous energy usage and all that.

"I really should stop being surprised," the blond said as he entered the room, cheerfully, glancing at the two students. "Same idea, huh? Wait... Alyson? Your hair.." he motioned at her hair, then stated the obvious "Its... blond." Realizing that sounded less than enthusiastic about her change in hair color, he grinned and added, "We match now. Cool."

It wasn't hard for Kel to figure out who the new kid was; he was pretty easy to recognize from his description. Since the regen helped with security he tried to keep up to date with the residents of the mansion so he could know who was supposed to be there so he'd be certain if someone was an intruder. Pretty basic stuff. Though he wasn't officially doing that anymore, at least not until his 'little issue' was resolved.

"Scott, right? Do you mind being called Scott? I'm Kel, this is Aly. Welcome to Xaviers. I'm the welcome wagon," he said with a grin, before turning to the fridge and peering inside. "What sounds good to you kids? I'm starving... smoothies... no, I need real food," he told himself sternly, but his attention would not leave the fresh fruit he'd just bought. "Well... I guess I could have smoothies with dinner. Want some kick-ass smoothies?" he asked, pulling out the ingredients. But what for dinner? He stared into the fridge with a perplexed look. He was hungry but he just couldn't make his mind up.

Douglas sat in his room, looking at the stuff on the other side of the room. Someone else lived here with him, yet he hadn't met him yet. Not shocking as Douglas had odd hours and he had just arrived. He didn't even know who to look for. He only knew a name; Scott Henry Corrigan. He hoped that he wouldn't be uncomfortable about the whole having green skin thing.

He walked to the window. The suns rays felt so good on his skin. It mad him feel so good, it also gave him a sweet taste in his mouth. Which reminded him that he hadn't eaten anything today. That was just like him to forget to eat. Since he didn't usually feel hungry. He knew he did need to eat even if he didn't feel like it. Stupid photosynthesis working against him.

He walked to the kitchen through the nice air conditioned mansion in black jeans and a black and green striped T-shirt. He had to make sure to concentrate when he walked over hard wood floors with bare feet. He could quickly ruin them on accident by making them as fresh as if they were still part of a living tree. The last thing he needed was a trail that lead straight to him. That wouldn't make a very good first impression on the school.

He made it to the kitchen without a hitch. This is why he liked being out during the night, because he didn't have the sun boosting his ability, at night he had less energy and thus made it easier to walk without using his powers. He still didn't know how to completely control them.

He walked into the kitchen seeing three other people. One was going through the fridge and two were sitting at the table eating ice cream. He didn't feel like having ice cream and didn't want to butt in at the fridge, he would just make something for himself until the fridge was free. He walked over to the table.
"Can I sit here?"

While the net was a veritable cornucopia of information on almost every topic Shank could think of and many he never would've thought of without it bringing it up (like Hello Kitty - she had no mouth and like, was her first name 'Hello'?), nothing he'd read had touched upon getting swirls in ice cream. Stripes in toothpaste, filling in Twinkies, and gum in the middle of Blow Pops, but not how ice cream managed to be two separate flavors while squirted into its container in a peppermint candy pattern. So he was thinking about it while not thinking about all the things his mind wanted him to be thinking about, when thankfully someone else came in. Because there was only so far you could go with hypothesizing over chocolate/vanilla swirls.

She was blond and shorter than him, but looked older. But then, everyone he'd seen so far had looked older, except for that shortie with the wild hair. He'd just looked mischievous. When she ducked into the kitchen Shank had tried to discreetly sniff himself. He wanted to make a good impression and he couldn't do it smelling like sweat or dirty clothes or that weird metallic scent he sometimes emitted due to his metal parts. He was showered, clothes clean, and metal parts wiped carefully, but personal funk was sort of like bad breath. The person who had it was the last to know unless presented with an unusually blunt conversational partner. Someone telling everyone in the school he had massive BO would certainly keep people from inspecting him too close but would be long in living down. Shank couldn't smell anything, so hoped he was fine.

This diagnosis was confirmed when she plunked herself down across from him, downwind if he would, and wasn't immediately overcome by his fumes. "Hey. Are you new here?"

But before he could answer another even older looking dude entered, all smiles, and tipped Shank off to the girl's name. "I really should stop being surprised. Same idea, huh? Wait... Alyson? Your hair... It’s... blond. We match now. Cool."

Shank's own dull brown hair poked out from under his hat in wisps and tufts, but he smiled shyly at both the new and natural blondes. "H'lo. Uh. Yeah. I'm new."

"Scott, right? Do you mind being called Scott? I'm Kel, this is Aly. Welcome to Xavier’s. I'm the welcome wagon. What sounds good to you kids? I'm starving... smoothies... no, I need real food. Well... I guess I could have smoothies with dinner. Want some kick-ass smoothies?"

Doctor had not been a fast talker, but one of those older men who spoke in calm measures with plenty of pauses to let an eager youngster interrupt to ask for a definition or comment. So he was a little startled to be part of a conversation that moved so quickly without him. Shank's mouth had opened, shut, partly opened again, and closed before he could get up the nerve to reply. "It's. My. Uh. My name's Scott Henry, but. It's Shank for short."

Oh, blush. Impress them with your smooth talking, Moist, he thought bitterly. But he smiled, weakly. "Thanks for the welcome."

And then he had to ask, "What's in a smoothie?"

Which sounded a lot better than 'what IS a smoothie'. Intellectually he knew it was fruit and sometimes ice, and sometimes a vitamin or protein powder, but that it varied.

Shank had been stared at before, by kids at playgrounds, by those kids' parents, by people in coffeeshops where he'd sat surfing the net. So he knew how it felt, and that it wasn't polite. But his eyes, behind their curtain of bangs, widened when the green kid walked in and couldn't stop looking at him.

He broke off his glance when he realized what he was doing, blushed a second time, and ate a large mouthful of ice cream to cover his embarrassment.

"Can I sit here?"

Nodding, it took a moment for his ice cream to be swallow-able, and then he said, "Of course. I'm Shank."

Almost instantly after she sat down, a familiar face entered the room. Kelrian Alther, one of Aly's friends. It was certainly refreshing to actually see him here as opposed to moping in his room like he'd been doing for days on end since an... Incident involving the Danger Room a little over two months ago, now. It was good to see him out and about as opposed to being cooped up in that small dorm room. It was.. Refreshing, to say the least. "Yea, yea... I'm blond now, and yes... We do match." Aly said, a grin appearing on her face as she looked up to the other blond.

Then Kel did introductions, it seemed that the young kid's name was Scott. "Yep, that's me. Aly Hart." Aly said, nodding quickly as she munched on her ice cream sandwich... Which happened to be almost gone by now. She had enjoyed it, and was sad that it was gone. Oh well. Aly turned her attention to Kel as he asked about smoothies. That would be awesome. "Sure! Smoothies are freaking awesome." She said, quickly and turned her attentions towards Shank. "You sound so nervous. That is so adorable." Aly teased, as she watched the young male.

"No worries about the welcome. It comes with the idea of being a student here at Xavier's. Most of us are considerably friendly." However, as soon as Aly replied the young boy asked what was in a smoothie. Alyson blinked her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest... Mainly because she had to really think to answer his question. "Well, there are lots of things in certain smoothies." She said, putting her hand to her chin and raising her index finger to her lip. "Fruit, soda.. All that kind of stuff." She said, hopefully she was helping and not making Shank more confused.

'Can I sit here?'

A voice asked, only to get a quick reply from Shank. This kid was another new student. "Go right ahead." Aly said, after Shank's reply.

"Oh, sorry.. Shank, then? I'd kinda assumed that Henry was the middle name," the blond young man admitted, getting reminded of Anne Lee. She didn't like to be called Anne either.. though she didn't mind Lee so much. "Well, nice to meet you and all that. I'm still in training for the x-men... hah, and for the culinary arts for that matter. I do night security here, too. And... yeah, I don't sleep much." Like, a few times a year, for the past few years. Didn't know if it was normal for him or if he was just a regen with insomnia.

He grinned back over his shoulder at the two younger students, entirely aware that he was rambling a bit as he looked through the fridge. Students mostly weren't supposed to cook in the kitchen, but they could keep snacks in there... so none of them were really doing anything they oughtn't do.

Since he was planning on returning to the culinary arts [at a closer college this time] once he was comfortable in doing both that and keeping up with things at the mansion, he'd gotten permission to 'practice' once in a while. Though mostly he helped out for the main meals under the supervision of the current mansion cooks... once in a while he wanted to make something not on the menu. However, instead he'd decided to grab one of the frozen burritos he'd gotten on his shopping trip and pop it in the microwave to cook while he got the smoothie stuff ready.

Aly was pretty enthusiastic about the smoothie idea. Shank's question threw Kel for a moment. "Well... pretty much anything you want, in the run of fruit and drinks, so long as they'd taste good together. I'm going with the classic strawberry and banana, today... with grapefruit juice for more sweetness.."

Just then, another new student joined them, while Aly and Shank greeted him. Kel by then had found the ingredients he'd bought and moved them to the counter... where he set to preparing all the ingredients. And cleaning the blender, since he... had issues trusting that the last person to use it had cleaned it properly. "Hey, kid, I'm Kel, welcome to Xaviers... want a smoothie? I'm making smoothies.." he asked absently while cleaning the strawberries in the sink.

Douglas sat down at a side of the table. This was his first interaction with other students. He'd not talked to anyone just yet and he was not the type of person to be cooped up in a room. He didn't like being a potted plant. He wanted to be out and meet people, he needed people to depend on. He wanted people to need him.

The guy at the fridge had finally turned around and had a blender and some fruit. The guy took a quick look at him and asked if he wanted a smoothie. Douglas loves smoothies.

"Yah, I'd like one." Then Douglas noticed the fruit. This guy was washing the fruit. That said one thing to him, that the fruit was not clean. At least that is what Douglas would assume, he was feeling a bit edgy. He couldn't have contaminated fruit in a smoothie. No, that wouldn't do. He knew that even if you wash a fruit off you didn't get the contaminants off of it. They stuck on through anything, else rain would have washed them off. No, they would have organic fruit if Douglas had anything to do with it.

He got of rather quickly and went to the sink next to Kel.
"You're going to use those fruit?" Doug grimaced. "Here, give me one of each." He didn't wait to be handed the fruit he just took it. He put a strawberry out in a line next to the other fruits that he had collected. He hovered his hand over them and closed his eyes. Slowly the fruit exploded out and was encompassed by miniature versions of their trees and bushes. He took a look and went back to concentrating and made the plants become covered in their source fruit, full size. He took a breath and took a step back.

"Use those. They're clean." He was worn after doing that. He hadn't really tried anything like it before. It wouldn't last long, but for the moment he felt like he had just run to his room and back. He wasn't overly winded by it, but was kind of thrilled.

"My name's Doug by the way. I think the fruits look the way they should taste." He sometimes had the accidental problem of switching the flavors of foods in his mother's garden. He was pretty sure he had that under control now though.

"Umm... Try one first to make sure they don't taste like carrots."
