June 24 2010 7:30 AM Not many mutants would spend early morning in the danger room. Then again most mutants weren't Kane 'Titan' Tate. the young man who was now pushing 30 had joined the X men to try and get use to his powers and gain revenge for his dead wife. He had constantly been reprimanded for his language and care free attitude but in all fairness Kane wasn't exactly too caring about others, Kane wasn't a team player not when he was so hell bent on revenge. As he reached the danger room he set it to a high setting and removed all water from the area. Kane then went and removed his jacket so he was just in his X men uniform. Other mutants had tried to include the young man in their group but to be honest he just didn't care, he was angry very angry with the humans that had killed his wife, it had only been because Banshee had informed Kane of the institute that Kane was at the institute. Kane then entered the room and started the simulation. The simulation put Kane in a room with the men that he knew were the reason that Jo was dead. "Showtime." Kane said with his arms up to his elbow slowly burning and becoming fire. Then he moved is left arm and the fire burnt three of the humans to ash as the fire was burning like the heart of the sun. Then he moved his left arm and seperated the humans into 4 groups of 2. He moved to the first group and lifted one man off of his feet by his neck and kicked his ally away from him with a boot. Then he turned his attention to the man who he had his hand wrapped around and snapped his neck. Then he threw the man in his arms over the fire and at two other humans knocking them both down. Then he turned to see the man he had kicked had gotten back to his feet and was trying to look intimidating to the mutant. "You want to try me?" Kane said and then his skin became metallic "bring it on," the man didn't look so confident then and tried to run but Kane caught him and shoulder tackled him into the fire. Then surprisingly the door behind him opened and the simulation stopped. "Can i help you with something?" Kane asked not turning to look at the person "because i was kind of in the middle of my simulation?" |

Today was going to be a good day for Sam. He could feel it. The young man had slept in an extra hour, hoping eight hours of rest would increase his brain's pleasure center's activity. Not really. He had just knocked his alarm clock off his nightstand and it hadn't made enough of a ruckus to wake him up. But no big. The bumpkin was hoping that nobody had already taken the Danger Room, though, if they had, he was sure they would be so kind as to allow him to join them in their endeavor, for he was more interested in fighting than pumping iron. For cautionary measures, the young man made his way to the observatory deck above the Room, and noticed that someone had, in fact, already started a session. At first glance, the young man could not quite tell who it was. It was clearly a man, possibly a fire manipulator. It might have been a new recruit, or perhaps a student that had somehow bypassed the security. The young man stepped closer to the window, and noticed the man had turned into a metallic form, narrowing it down to his good buddy Petey and that grumpy guy that was not much of a team player at this point, although everybody does have potential in them somewhere. Squinting his eyes even harder, the bumpkin could now tell that it was the latter. The young man did not exactly take solace in this, but there was less in the case of heading to the weight room. Besides, it could be a good opportunity to get to know him, and maybe learn his name. Not letting this ruin his good day, the young mutant hopped on down to the main entrance to the Danger Room with a smile, and opened the door cautiously, hoping that the controls of the room would safely shut off, and that his teammate inside of it would not give him third degree burns. "Can I help you with something? Because I was kind of in the middle of my simulation?" His voice was...bitchy, to say the least, and the man had the nards to not even turn around, which slightly got under Sam's skin. "Yeah, sorry, Ah was just wondering if you'd allow me to join you. Ah can get your simulation back on in a jiff, but Ah just figured you may want to start getting accustomed to your team, considering you don't much fraternize with us. Ah'm Sam, by the way, and you'd maybe remember my face if you'd do me a favor and turn on around, 'cause, y'know, Ah'm talking to you." |

Kane turned with a slight smile on his face to look at Sam before replying to him. "Sure," kane said with a grin "if you are sure you can keep up with me i have no problem in you joining." Kane wasn't really bothered about being a team player he had is own agenda to tell with, sure he wanted the same outcome as the Xmen which was peace and he didn't agree with the brotherhood but that didn't mean he would fall into line with the Xmen, he was his own man and did what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it, not any other way around. After all when Jo died he went from being a man who was married and very happily married to a man that had nothing left, oh sure he had his parents and little sister but he was sure he would be with Jo forever. there was no chance of that now. That was why he trained so emphatically and crazily so that he was in shape but also when he went down he could go down swinging, he was going after them now, he was not waiting for them to come after him this time. "So what did you have planned?" Kane asked "sparring or do you want to do something else?" |

The snarkiness continued on, much to Sam's dismay. Surely he'd be able to strike some sense in this guy before the simulation was over. "Son, Ah been fighting with this team for almost a decade. Don't you think for a second that Ah can't keep up with the likes of you." Hoping it would come across as just playful banter, the bumpkin smiled out of the corner of his mouth, and put his left hand on his side. The young man made his way back to the controls, and began a session that made scenery from the streets of New York slowly begin to appear, Rockefeller center being mere yards away from him. "Ah was hoping we could do some teamwork stuff. 'Cause you're on a team, and it'd help if you started acting like it." Taking a deep breath, Sam had to remind himself that this man was his teammate, and that he'd more than likely have to work with him sometime in the near future. He was more than positive that he could do some damage on the man, so he convinced himself not to take him up on the offer to spar. This could be a good lesson for the both of them, to remember that their goals were the same, and the best way to accomplish them was together. "Alrighty then, here's the deal. There's a woman around here with pyrokinesis, much like yourself. She's gonna set that there building on fire, and our objectives are to make our way inside, save any survivors, and talk the woman down from her flaming fit. Can your metal form withstand flames, or am Ah going to have to extend my impenetrable blast field to you?" |

Kane smirked at what the man said Kane liked to try and rile people and apparantly this guy was one of the few it would be harder to rile he didn't know. Sam had been able to remain calm and not try and fight with Kane unlike some discussions he had over the past 13 months. "I am not affected by flames," Kane said with a smile "at all, so if you want i will go and deal with the fire girl and you can focus on getting the people out, i could like hold her or something that way i am keeping her restrained and i am not getting you burnt. Kane had to admit that it seemed like a good idea to him, this Sam guy was trying to work with him and within minutes he had been able to come up with a plan to work with Sam. He had been hesitatnt to be part of any team as he had wanted to stay away from the fact that the team goals weren't exactly his own but he worked well with people if he could get on with the person well enough. "Is that good enough for you?" he asked with a grin |

With his little grin, Sam was hoping that Kane could see past the fact that he was getting annoyed with his whole 'I'm a badass and I'll do whatever the hell I want and you can't stop me because I'm a badass' schtick. But that was his goal, after all; to not let him get the best of him. Sam was a generally well composed kind of guy, and, plus, today was his good day. No way in hell was this dude going to give him a little temper tantrum. "Good. Neither am Ah when my powers are in use. But nah, that won't be necessary. Like Ah said, this is a team building event, Ah think it'd be better if we worked at this together, meaning not splitting up like a damn Scooby Doo episode." The young man scoffed and used elevator eyes to examine the apartment building, noticing the smoke and flames emerge from its upper windows. "Look, Ah think that the gal's in one of the top floors, and it looks to me like the flame is spreading, but Ah'm just not sure how." The young man began to fire up his blast field, and got his business all ready to go. "Alright, Ah don't really want to use the door, because...well, that'd be boring. What do you say, want me to fly us into, say, the third floor?" He hadn't much noticed that this was becoming more of a leadership event, and that he was now spouting orders at the ruffian until he began to look at it from the man's perspective: if he was authority defiant, maybe he should just let him take the reigns? "On second thought, why don't you think of a plan? Ah'll take any orders you wanna give me long as we don't split up." |

Kane considered what Sam was saying and had to admit that if he wasn't as much of a pain in the ass he wouldn't have a problem following Sam, the problem was Kane was that much of an ass so that caused problems with people. As he listened to Sam's plan he had to admit it was a good idea working their way down from the top floor so that they could trying and get the surprise advantage over the mutant, there was only one problem though if the firen was travelling down as they were going down to the girl the flames would be lower, if the flames where going up Kane would be easier to stop them. "Take a look at the direction of the fire," Kane said instantly "if it is going up towards the top floor you fly us up and we do it that way and work our way down i should be able to put the fire out easier, if the fire is working its way down i say we go through the ground floor and work our way up, would you be able to put your powers around the people in the building to protect them from the fire?" |

Following relaying the leadership to the young man, Sam could tell he was happier this way. "By the way, what do you want me to call you during battle? Ah don't recall ever fighting with you, and, y'know some of our teammates opt to be called by their first name, despite having a codename and such." By saying this, Sam hoped that the man didn't realize he had no idea what his name was, for the young mutant feared that this would only increase his frustration with Sam, and that was exactly what he wasn't going for. The man next to him began to talk about a plan, and in a more respectful tone. Had he maybe done something right to make this man become a good, helpful X-Man? By God, he sure hoped so. "Sounds pretty damn reasonable to me. You're sure you're okay with me flying you up there? 'Cause if Ah do, Ah need you to give me your word that you won't go metal in flight, because that will seriously mess up my concentration, and we may go flying into a building or something. Just, y'know, some people aren't too comfortable with it." The man shrugged, and realized he had not answered his question. "But, yeah, Ah'm sure Ah could. May take a whole lot out of me, but Ah'm sure Ah could with the right amount of focus." |

"I'm Kane." kane said with a grin "or Titan if you would prefer? I know we haven't fought together that was mainly my fault, i guess i haven't been much of a team player before now, I am meaning to change that." Kane was truly thinking about turning over a new leaf as let's face it no one man could take on a whole race and win, also with the x men he could finally find solace since Jo's death he had been trying for two years with fight after fight and threat after threat and yet something was still missing for the young mutant. The Xmen had appealed to Kane and he had accepted yet he hadn't really taken the team strip to mean anything so to speak, sure he wore it but there were probably other members that wore it with pride, he just wore it so that he wasn;t going out in the nude to a fight. "Right so if you fly us up there," kane said "i could go steel and drop through the roof, then i can try putting the fires out and you start protecting the civilians and then when we reach the girl i can hold her, is that the plan?" Then he looked at Sam and realised that he didn't know what to call him either. "So while we are asking what do you want me to call you?" he said with a grin |

Again, the young man smirked. He maybe had done something right. "Glad to hear that, Kane. Ah'll probably be calling you Titan during missions." The young man extended his hand to Kane, with a respectful nod of the head. "Y'know, we all hit those phases where we think we're better than everybody we're fighting with, Ah know Ah did when Ah first came here. But we don't just receive combat training here; we all become different, more mature people. Mutants fighting for the ultimate goal of a discrimination-free Earth. And Ah'm sure that you can help us make that goal a reality, but you really gotta work with us first." The fuck? Did Sam just give a lecture? Something weird must have been going on in his brain. Anyways, back to the mission at hand. "But, uh, yeah, that sounds great. Just make sure you let me know when you go metal." The bumpkin felt his blast field fully surround him, giving him the focus, power, and strength to get off the ground. "My codename's Cannonball, and Ah fly with the help of an impervious aura that makes explosions from my waste down, as you're about to see here. The field's real loud, just a head's up." With a deep breath and a close of his eyes, Sam began to expel flames from his field, thrust leaving the street beneath him charred and smoky. "Grab my hands!" At this point, the young man was yelling, his arms parallel to the ground beneath him and pointing at Kane. His powers were beginning to release enough thrust to get him to hover, and his lower body was now engulfed in a shroud of flame. "Now, make sure you hold on tight!" |

Kane nodded and with a smile took the young man's hand and shook it, he got the feeling he had just made a friend in this shark pool rught now and someone that he could trust also. He knew that Sam was right, people had to work together to get things done on thi kind of level it had just been Kane's grief that had got in the way of that. He got the feeling that Sam had tried to go into a lecture mode but that didn't bother kane as much as it would have done maybe a week earlier which proved he was trying to get on with the Xmen. "I promise to tell you when i am going to turn to steel," Kane said with a grin "he knew that there would be a difference when his body changed and he had been considering just changing and watching Sam trying to cope with the steel weight but he changed his mind as he was beginning to trust the man. As Sam's field surrounded him Kane found the sound loud but not unbareable as Sam rose above him and lowered his hands to him. "Grab my hands," Sam said and Kane did as he was told "Now hold on tight." and Kane smirked and said "I have superstrength holding on won't be a problem." |

The handshake was firm, as if he didn't see it coming from a guy with super-strength. It may have been a milestone, and Sam estimated that in some sort of alternate universe, where he didn't save his patience for Titan, who, in turn, would probably have ended up getting brutally eviscerated by the night security while trying to light the Institute on fire or something. Saved a whole lot of headache for Kel and Logan, he guessed. "Uh, alright, thanks." Awkwardly, the bumpkin nodded his head. His request hadn't really needed to be responded to in the way that he had, leaving the young man to wonder if he was socially retarded or something. It would explain a bit, but he wasn't going to prod his teammate for an answer. As his blast field began to take form, Sam made sure to extend it to Kane, for, otherwise, he would have gotten the brunt of the smoke and flames on him, which would have been more nuisance than harmful seeing as how he was apparently flame retardant. "I have superstrength holding on won't be a problem." "Fair enough. Even still, you're gonna wanna be a little careful." The mutant locked hands with his teammate as he began to hover, and off they went. Sam flew parallel to the ground, his semi-precious cargo presumably hanging perpendicular to it. His legs could not be seen, on account of the flame, and likely would appear as a simple black flash at 60 mph. Though vestigial in his protective blast field, Sam made sure that he was wearing the classic aviator goggles that his younger sister had provided to him. They remained a constant reminder that martyrdom would only be worth it when the act would benefit his family. Now at the point where Kane was only within earshot when screaming, Sam did so, circling the building to find the perfect drop off point. "Tell me when!" |

Kane never really was much of a flyer, after all if humans where meant to fly they would have been given wings was Kane's theory however some mutants did have wings so that philsophy pretty much went out of the window however Kane still didn't like flying, the last time he had flown had been when Banshee had recruited him to the Xmen and that seemed like a long time ago now when in reality it had been 13 long hard months for Kane but for everyone else that time probably flew by. Kane tried not to hold onto Sam's hands too hard with his superstrength as that was the problm with superstrength you truly didn't know your own strength what may have felt like not a strong grip to Kane could possibly be crushing Sam's hand, therefore he hung on loosely but strong enough not to fall from Sam as if Kane had fallen he would have brought Sam down with him he would make sure of that he thought with a smile. Then the two mutants where hovering above the building, Kane began to brace himself for the impact of when he would meet the hard concrete roof when Sam spoke. ""Tell me when!" he shouted. "Now!" Kane shouted back, then he let go of Sam's hands and began to drop like a stone into water before turning to steel and hitting the roof with force. Kane rolled a little bit when he hit the roof before standing up and smirking at Sam. "How'd i do?" he asked |

Just as his handshake had been, Titan's grip to Sam's hands was very firm, possibly painful out of his blast field. Thank God for that damn thing. Following the circling thing, the man that the bumpkin had been toting around the city was dropped onto a burning building shortly after a verbal cue to do so. He hadn't seen him fall, for he had built up too much momentum, and inertia was making it a bit difficult to stop at this point. He did a slight turn of the head to make sure he had landed on the building, and not kersplatted on the ground several stories below, although it would not have much mattered. (To clear up confusion to the reader, this narrator of course meant that the safety protocols built into the Danger Room would have stopped the simulation, and Kane's landing would have been less bone - crushing.) Anywho, back to the story. As Sam returned, he could see Kane' mouth moving, but could not much tell what he was saying. Did he not tell him that his blast field was loud as fuck? Or was he not listening to when they were flying? What the hell, seriously. The young man flew back to where Kane had landed, and closed in on the area where he was standing, landing vertically, his head, hands, and toes all pointed directly at the cement floor beneath him, leaving it as dusty and smoky as the asphalt which he had taken off on once his landing was over. "Alright, you, man with the plan, what now?" |

As Kane stood on the roof he could feel pain in his ankles from the way that he landed, however he wasn't going to make it look like he was hurt after all he was Titan first and Kane Tate second, Tate could be broken emotionally he had been broken but Titan the mutant in him had stood firm and kept the young man sane, Titan allowed him to be uncaring and a dick to everyone that he wanted to be a dick to however that didn't make what Kane did right. "Shit." he spat out rotating his right ankle to get the blood flowing going in it again as he saw Sam land not to far from him and the energy blast around Sam dropped. ""Alright, you, man with the plan, what now?" Sam asked which caused Kane smile slightly, Kane had enjoyed being away from the group and working alone however in the little time he had spent with Sam today the man had made him laugh and had made him consider opening up more to the Xmen and the people around the institute a little more if it meant that he would be able to have more of a laugh and have 'team building exercises' "Well we have to get in there," Kane said "unless you can see a door up here for us to get down i suggest that i hang off of the side of the building, turn my legs to steel and kick my way in and you follow me in with your power blast flight what do you think?" |
