9 am

Lily often went down by the lake before breakfast, this saturday morning was no different, the water in the lake calmed her and some of her insecurities, water was the one thing that she coukd control depending on the size of it, therefore she knew it was the one thing that she knew that she could trust unconditionally. When she had first joined the xmen three months ago she had been a shy girl who hated being a mutant but was no longer going to run from the fact that she was a mutant, she was going to use her powers so that she could do something with them.

She had spent a lot of time around the lake and the pool which meant that the Xmen and students had seen her around a lot but she wasn't familiar with a lot of them still, simply because there was a lot of moving around and a lot of names to try and remember, not that Lily hadn't been trying to remember them. She was currently sitting just letting little waves wash up to her feet and then stopping them before sending them back in the other direction, a small smile graced her pretty features when it actually worked.

Douglas walked along the pond. He was staying nearer to the grass than the water, though he did love water. He watched the little waves catch the sun's rays. So pretty. It was nice to walk down there on a hot day like this. The cool breeze off the water felt marvelous. It was a wonderful day. He was still exploring the school a bit and the lake had been on his list, but today was the first day he had actually gotten down there.

He looked around the edge of the lake and his eyes lit upon a woman. She was just sitting on the beach. Her feet were sometimes in the water when waves came up he didn't see anything out of the ordinary, which actually was a little bit odd around here. He had come to expect random people bounding about with flames and sneaking up on him invisibly or dragging him telekinetically about. This was kind of peaceful. The woman looked peaceful too.

The pond reminded him of his grandmother's farm. He had been there right before he came to the school and he kind of missed it. He hadn't seen his family in a while. He wondered how long that feeling would last. He had a strong heart and soul and knew he could last without them. Still he couldn't help to wonder how everyone was doing.

He wandered over to the woman. He kinda recognized her from around the school. Never talked to her or even looked at her directly, but he'd seen her.

"Hi, mind if I join you?" Doug asked, "My name's Doug." He wasn't really thinking about how she would respond to his skin being green. One of the rare times that he didn't think about it. He was too focused on the water. It seemed to act differently around this woman.

Lily hadn't been paying attention to anything around her and hadn't even heard Doug come near her.

"Hi, mind if I join you?" Doug asked, "My name's Doug."

This jerked Lily from her reverie to see the green mutant standing near her, she slightly jumped and did a double take of him, not because of his skin but because she had been so out of it that she hadn't seen Doug come near her. Lily knew that if she had interacted with the other students more she would have noticed Doug and the fact that he was green, the truth was she didn't care, what mattered to her was that he was an Xman, well a student but at the institute all the same, he wasn't going to try to hurt her or wish her any harm at all. Lily had major trust issues, she knew this and accepted this after all she had been adopted and up until her parents had told her that she had been adopted she was none the wiser to this fact.

"Sure." Lily said smiling at him "my name is Lily." then she stood up even though she was still quite small which was something that she hated about herself and extended her hand to Doug.

Doug shook her hand and then sat down on the sand. He preferred to sit on solid ground, but the view was great and he wasn't going to complain. He just watched the water.

"So I've seen you around, but never talked to you. I haven't talked to many people really, but I'm trying to change that. I don't want to be so isolated you know?" He played with the sand drawing in it.

"I was scared about coming to this school. I knew it would be people like me, but still I didn't know about the other people with physical mutations like my own. I've met some of them now. It changes your view on life to know that there are others like you." He didn't care about how much talking he was doing right now. It just seemed right to talk.

"So, what can you do?" He always wondered what other people's abilities were. He knew that some people had very basic abilities, as those of his family, and most of the people here had more defined and stronger abilities. He was a curious person by nature. He dug his hands in the sand and felt the water wash over his feet. He could just about have rooted himself right there, though sand wasn't his favorite thing to be in.

"Yeah i have been around a lot," Lily said with a soft smile "i guess i am a bit of a wanderer which is why you have seen me around a lot, to be fair though Doug I haven't spoken to you either so it's not that big a deal, i can understand the isolated part, when i was at home i was the only mutant, the only one that was different and it was scary."

As she listened to Doug say how nervous he was because of his skin she couldn't help feel sorry for him, after all his skin was something he couldn't control at all yet he was bothered about what other people thought about him because of his skin.

"I felt that way when i joined here," Lily said "it was scary with my power, i just thought i was going crazy, it was my therapist that told me i was a mutant, it was scary for me, yet now i am amongst my own kind, mean some have different powers and some are older than others but we are all mutants."

"My power is this," Raine said with a movement of her hand and the calm water turned to waves and the water began to become a big wave that was heading towards her and Doug before she raised her other hand and froze the water into an ice wave. "You might want to stand back for this next bit."

Douglas gave her an accepting, quick smile when she had told him her story. Most people who came here had problems with acceptance. That was why they were here, wasn't it? They were here to be accepted. To be around people that were like them and to hone their skills for the betterment of mankind. Though first mankind had to accept them.

"My power is this," she said. He watched her as she was moving her hands. What was she doing? Then he looked at the lake and noticed that its waves were getting bigger. He stumbled to his feet. A wave big enough for them to knock them down came at them he fell backwards behind her as she froze the wave. His hands were out prepared to try and block the wave. He could feel the grass trembling all around him. If she hadn't frozen the wave she would have seen what his ability was without him even intending it.

"You might want to stand back for this next bit." She warned.

"Now? Now I should stand back? I think I should have already been standing back." He laughed slightly nervous, but not so much. He went ahead and stood in the grass. He was more comfortable there in general anyway.

"Now? Now I should stand back? I think I should have already been standing back." Doug laughed slightly nervous, but not so much. He went ahead and stood in the grass. He was more comfortable there in general anyway.

"Yeah well," Lily said "here is where my powers get really interesting, she was nervous in trying this she had only really done it once when she had first started seeing what her powers could do and she went running in the rain and she wasn't sure if her powers would allow her to do it with a bigger volume of water in front of her. Lily then moved her right hand and some of the ice began to crack and allow a small amount of water rush at her before she refroze the wall before more could get through, as the water impacted on her body she felt it swelling around her legs as it began to surround her and her body began to change, she felt her skin become pure liquid and her human solid form slip away from her, she knew that it was dangerous for her to try and do this without more practice but she felt like she wanted to show Doug that her power wasn't just controlling water and turning it into ice, that she had something her power could do to her body as well.

"So," Lily said when she had completely turned back a minute later as she couldn't hold the transformation long "what do you think?"

Douglas watched as the water pummeled down on her. He thought about jumping towards her, but quickly decided against it. She could control water and she had let the water free. She had intended this to happen and he had to let her show him what she wanted to. So he watched as she was covered in water.

He quickly lost sight of her, she vanished into the water. He was frantic for about a minute wondering where she had gone. All that was left was the quickly draining water on the beach. Was she invisible? No she would be leaving ripples. He knew that from past experience. She had done something else and it had to do with her water powers. He watched the water and as sure as day she started to rise out of it forming back to herself.

So she could become water. That was cool. It was like him being part plant, only he was stuck this way. No need for self pity now though.

"what do you think?" she said.

"Wow that was amazing. You melted away!" He smiled at her very impressed. She was very talented. He hoped that one day he could progress his abilities to be more that they were now. He was really limited in what he could do. It took so much effort for him. She made having an ability look simple.

"Yeah," Lily said "it took me a while to be able to do that, i have been trying on an off for the past month to do it," Lily had been practicing a lot in the danger room and in various places where there was water, she had considered going to Bobby for help with it as he could turn into ice or there was a rumour that Kane Tate could turn into fire and that his sister could become pure electricty and Lily thought that any of them would have been the best to ask about help.

However Bobby was pretty much always busy and she didn't want to bother him as he was a member of the Xman and she was a girl that had just arrived at the mansion and Kane Tate had a reputation for being a bit of a loner and his sister hadn't been around long either so Lily had decided to work alone with her power and after a month she had been able to change her body into water.

"So," Lily said smiling at Doug "have you been here long? I have been here three months."

"So," Lily said smiling at Doug "have you been here long? I have been here three months."

"I've been here for a little over a week now. I've already had several fun moments. I think I'm really going to like this place. People can really understand me here and I can understand them." He was also glad to finally have found a place where people wouldn't make fun of him because of the color of his skin. It was nice since he had already seen a lizard boy with green skin too. His roommate had metal parts in him so that fit well too.

"I can't do much yet, but... How about I just show you what I can do too. Here come to the grass." He took a few steps back into the grass. He opened his hands over the ground. He felt around the grass and weeds feeling the different kinds of plants in the area. He mostly just felt the grass. He could just make the grass grow rapidly tall. But that wouldn't have been interesting enough.

He took the DNA of the grass and changed it and in a moment a small bonsai tree grew from the ground bearing mango. He did love mango, but you could only really eat it outside because of the mess it made. He plucked two off of the small tree he had made and handed one to her.

"Care for a mango?" He waved his hand and the tree decomposed and went away.

"I've been here for a little over a week now. I've already had several fun moments. I think I'm really going to like this place. People can really understand me here and I can understand them."

Lily felt like she could agree with Doug over this, after all before she had come to the mansion herself she had found herself to be different to her friends and considered herself to kind of be a self imposed outcast by this, even though her friends had assured her that she wasn't an outcast and that her friends loved her regardless of her power as did her family she couldn't help but feel different to them.

Then she had come to the mansion, the difference had been amazing, the fact that she wasn't different anymore, she was the same as everyone else, a mutant, of course there wasn't that many who could control an element but the fact that she was with people who were like her kind of made her feel a little better.

"I can understand that," Lily said with a wide smiling grin.

"I can't do much yet, but... How about I just show you what I can do too. Here come to the grass."

Lily did as he said and stepped up onto the grass, she was amazed as the small bonzai tree rose to be a great mango bearing tree, as Doug picked two off of the mango tree Lily was still in awe of what he had done.

"Care for a mango?" He waved his hand and the tree decomposed and went away.

"That was awesome," Lily said taking the mango from the offered hand.

"Yah, I have a gift for creating plants. Not much use here, maybe I'll progress in it eventually though. For now I'm a walking organic garden." He went back to the edge of the lake and sat with his feet in. It was warm out and it felt good. He caressed the side of the mango and the skin folded away allowing him to access the delicious flesh. Though the best part was near the seed in his opinion. He always tried to make his created plants better than if they had grown. He took a bite of the mango and it tasted wonderful. Even he with all his planty mightiness couldn't stop the juices from rolling down his face landing around him.

It was nice just to sit here on the beach, with a new friend, watching the waves, but the day was moving on and he had to be going on to other things. He finished off the mango and splashed some water on his face to wash the sticky juice off.

"Well Lily this was great, we should meet up again some time, but I have to go now. There are other things to be done today." He got up, "I'll see you around right?" He heard her answer as he left. It was nice to meet new people, he really did hope to see her again soon. He would have loved just to sit the day away on that beach, but there was no such luck for him in that venture. Life was always tugging in different directions. He sighed and walked on. It was not a long walk to the mansion, but it seemed longer after having such an exciting and relaxing morning. He was absolutely ready for anything that could happen today, well almost anything.

"Making something of your power whilst you are here would be a good thing," Lily said with a soft smile in between bites of her mango she didn't want to seem like she was being rude and thinking that Doug wasn't trying to use his powers she was just meaning more on a scale that he should be working more with his powers so that he would be able to do more with them rather than being embarrassed by them if that was what the problem was or wanting to be able to do more with them.

Lily sat next to Doug as they ate their fruit, she had to admit she felt sorry for Doug, after all it was easy for her to hide her abilities, as she just could not use them, Doug on the other hand would always stand out because of his skin, which meant that he would always be open to prejudice which annoyed Lily.

Then Doug splashed water on his face to remove the mango juice and turned to her to speak.

"Well Lily this was great, we should meet up again some time, but I have to go now. There are other things to be done today." then he got up, "I'll see you around right?"

"Course you will," Lily said with a grin "I will be around i will see you soon Doug." As Doug turned and left Lily couldn't help but smile, she had made another friend and maybe she had gone further in proving that she belonged here.
