Monday July 26th

10am

Sammi was currently sitting in the library on the second floor of the X institute, Sammi had always been a hard worker and she was currently writing out everything that she knew about her powers and other powers that where in the institute, nothing to big just little notes about the other mutants and what they could do so that she didn't confuse one mutant with another when she had spoken to them which she had the potential to do and had done a couple of times.

The easiest to write about was her brother, annoyingly her notes about her brother had become more of a biography about him and their family and she knew that she had to think about something else. She decided to start with the staff, Cyclops and his visor which emitted the energy blasts was pretty cool, Jean's power of telepathy and telekenisis worried Sammi a little as it meant that Jean could make you literally do anything and could be able to read your mind at any point, looking at any thought or memory. Logan's power had been another that had interested her when she had been told about it, after all regenerative abilities meant that he never had to die unless he couldn't heal in time, that made him pretty much immortal.

Sammi had been sitting with her back to the door unsure of the time, wondering where everyone was as she knew it was at least mid morning and that someone was normally in here by now.

'They must have all slept in' she said to herself.

Max walked into the library with his usual long-stride. He'd been up for at least four hours now, and had delayed the inevitable long enough: it was time to study. Max was taking a math course during the summer online through the local university. It wasn't much, but Max wanted to get it over with before school started again. Smart idea, right?

Wrong. It sucked. Yes, it was only one class. Yes, that meant he had tons of time to work on it. Yes, the class was easier because it was on an "accelerated time frame." Did that matter? Of course not. It was summer. Max had almost no motivation to do his work. However, his stubbornness got the best of him again, and he decided he might as well do the work. He'd signed up for the stupid class after all, it was his own damn fault.

Max saw a blond-haired girl sitting at one of the study tables, her back to the door. He couldn't tell who it was until he sat down a few chairs to her left. It was Sammi Tate, went by the name Conduit. She had some powers about electrical stuff. At least, Max thought that was it. He could have been totally wrong.

Setting his notebook, textbook, calculator, and a few pencils down on the table, Max let out a sigh and began to go to work. His concentration level was around 2%, if that. He was bored.

Sammi had been staring off into space tapping her pen on the table top when Max walked through the door and sat down a few chairs to her left. She had heard about Max, or Giant as she thought his code name was, he could control the size of his body and could grow to a height of about 20 or 30 feet in the air, Sammi was amazed by this as she always hated being short and then there was a guy who could manipulate his height for it to be whatever he wanted it to be, life wasn't fair.

Sammi continued writing her list, she had now written about Iceman and Shadowkat, ice manipulation and phasing where cool powers to have as well, Sammi felt she was kind of left out on the power front as she only had one power which was electrokenesis where as her brother had three completely awesome powers. Sammi was hesitant to talk to Max simply because she didn't know him and therefore she felt it would be a little weird for a girl to start randomly talking to a guy, that was her opinion anyway. However she decided that she would do it anyway.

"Hi," she said smiling at him "I am Sammi, Sammi Tate."

Thus the inevitable came. Max looked up from his notes and blinked at Sammi, utilizing his almost useless social skills.

"Uh...hey."

Max turned back to his book, but then remembered something.

"I'm Max. Gorman. Max Gorman... hi." Max turned fully to the girl, waving slightly. "It's nice to meet you?"

After five years of living at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, one learned how to socialize with mutants properly. One of the chief rules was that when meeting someone new you never offered to shake their hand. Some mutants can't physically touch other people due to their powers, so a simple handshake might not only be dangerous but could possibly make the other person feel insulted or upset.

Luckily for Max, this was one of the rules he often remembered. His concentration level (towards Math at least) now shot at 0%, Max was fully tuned in to the somewhat strange girl to his right. She didn't look strange. Didn't act strange. Heck, why did Max think she was strange? Who knows....

Sammi smiled at Max, she wasn't the best at making friends, not since the whole mutant hatred had increased, sure her friends stayed close to her but there was the fact that she was at a new school with people that she didn't know, not that it bothered her, it was just like starting over which Sammi would to her best to do, after all just because she had use to a smart, friendly girl now she had become a little shy because she was new, this was something that she was going to have to change, she had considered acting like Kane but that would do her more damage than good.

Kane wasn't the most liked around the place but she was his little sister and therefore had loyalty to him like he did to her, Sammi wanted to be able to get on with friends her own age though because she doubted Kane was going to stick around much longer, she knew that he had talked to Jean a couple of weeks ago, they had talked about that, she had told him she wouldn't leave with him if he had left and he looked like he was going to stay, she just hoped he would.

"So what you working on?" Sammi asked Max

"What? Oh, just uh, some math. Calculus." Max slid the book down the table and showed it to Sammi. He would be quite surprised if she understood it. Then again, he was just assuming. He tended to do that. Bad habit.

"You get this stuff?" Couldn't hurt to ask.

"I use to," Sammi said looking at the book "I haven't done calculus since like high school though, I didn't maths at college, I was studying law before I came here."

Sammi had hoped that she would be able to help Max and was a little annoyed that she couldn't help him.

"I can try though." she said.
