Timeframe: June 19th, @ 2 pm Rahne Sinclair had inherited many things from her adopted mother. She spoke in a nearly identical Scottish brogue, regionally dialected more to where Moira came from than where Rahne did, she shared a similar sense of humor, and a very similar strong-willed personality. But at this moment, what was most evident in Rahne's inheritance from Moira McTaggert was her taste in music. Sometimes, it was nice to just lay back on the bed, relax, and turn the CD player up just a little bit. Not too loud, because with her ears, even low volumes were plenty audible. "I've got a feeling, a feeling deep inside, oh yeah. Oh yeah..." Rahne sang along with Paul McCartney's vocals as the album "Let it Be" got to one of her favorite songs. Moira McTaggert was an enthusiastic Beatles fan, and that enthusiasm passed down to her daughter. She had the remastered albums, t-shirts, a few posters, books... "I've got a feeling, a feeling I can't hide, oh no, no... oh no!" Her voice scratched a bit as she tried to match Paul's higher pitches, but fell short. She wasn't exactly a singer, after all - though her wolf form had a very nice pitch when she howled - but that was something she very rarely did, knowing full well that it was a bit disruptive and frightening to some. Her door as usual was opened, just that small crack, enough to make her impromptu karaoke session audible to passers-by. Sure, maybe somebody would think it was strange, maybe somebody would tease her over her less-than stellar singing voice, but she didn't particularly care. Sometimes, this was just the best way to enjoy the music. |

He never knew why, but he always some how wandered in on someone when they were listening to music, and being who he was the next set of words that came from his mouth were the very lyrics of the song. Jay's voice naturally taking an identical pitch and tone to Paul McCartney's. "Oh please believe me, I'd hate to miss the train," He knocked at the door in beat with the drum, though his was louder than the volume Rahne was playing the music at. "Oh yeah, yeah, oh yeah." He couldn't help but smile a bit as he opened up the door a bit to pop his dark red haired head in through enlarging crack. Rahne told him about the open door policy a while ago, he just never really used it. Jay usually kept to himself mostly, but during the events of Apocalypse, he and Rahne developed a friendship of sorts, mostly because of the kids she watched and how Jay was able to use his musical talents to calm the kids down and help them focus on something else rather than the carnage going on in the world. "Miss Sinclair?" the winged teenager finally asked, breaking up the beat of the song. His voice gracefully switched from McCartney's to his own. The crimson feathered wings were exposed poping through holes in his tanktop, it was summer after all no point in getting really hot, plus after spending all that time in the airport and on the bus with his wings binded, Jay didn't want them bound for a while, it was uncomfortable for long periods of time after all. |

A small smirk spread across Rahne's face as Jay started singing along. She sat up, legs folded under her cross-legged, elbow propped on her left knee, chin resting in her palm. "Well, well," she said, lifting her eyebrows some. "Look who finally showed up. Mister Jay 'been here a whole bloody day already an' am only just now checkin' up on the most beautiful werewolf in the whole school' Guthrie." She'd heard through the grapevine that he'd come back to campus, but with his slightly anti-social tendencies, she'd figured it best to allow him to say hello on his own terms rather than have her hound him down and demand it out of him. She knew when to be pushy and when to allow people their space. Jay was the type of guy who needed his space, and would come around when he was ready. She had taken a chance in asking the boy to look after her students during the Apocalypse, not having known him all too well, but she considered herself a good judge of character, and he seemed like a good kid to her. Not to mention the kids were pretty impressed with him - mostly the girls. A cute teenage boy with wings who could play the guitar? If that's not 'Mutant School Crush Material', she wasn't sure what was. But that didn't mean she couldn't give him a hard time over the time it took to come see her, some teasing and gentle ribbing. "I was beginning t' think ye'd forgotten all about me, ye know," she swung her legs out and stood up, hands akimbo as she looked at him with her head tilted slightly to her right. |

"Nah, I haven't forgotten 'bout you, Rahne." Jay says stepping further into the room. He just smiled softly, he knew she was nice, its just Jay being Jay acting all shy. "Hard to forget one of the few other red heads in the school." He commented his smile warming up a bit. "And I'm sorry 'bout not coming along, it was just busy yesterday between a family reunion, helpin' Jeb get settled into the school and showing him around and stuff. Plus I pretty much crashed 'round 7 last night. So yeah...sorry." Jay says softly to the older red headed woman. She was just a few years older than him, and while he didn't exactly dig the fur, she was cute in his book, that much was certain. But there were a lot of cute girls around the school, some that have expressed big crushes on him rather openly, and Jay just never felt right, not since losing Julia. It's hard to replace something like that. "But how have you been?" he asks. It was small talk, Jay just wanted to say hello, let her know he was back and stuff. He wasn't really sure about anything else though. He was still getting used to being back, starting things new since he left. Everything just felt different, he felt different. |

"Good, good," Rahne said, allowing a smile to creep across her face as she took the few steps over to her stereo and tapped the "pause" button. No sense letting the song compete with the conversation, after all. "Well, next time ye head off f'r an extended absence, ye better make sure ye come see me right away," she said with a soft laugh, a sound that wasn't entirely unlike a dog's bark, but still human enough to be recognizable for what it was. "Ye know they asked about you from time to time," she sat down at the foot of her bed, running a hand through her hair. "Well, the girls did. 'Where'd the guitar angel go? Is he gonna play for us again?' stuff like that. Turns out yuir quite the hit with the young ladies. Like the mutant Justin Beebee or whatever the hell that kid's name is." She took a short breath and let it out with a huff of air. "Oh, ye know... helped save the world... again... relieved to have everybody back home, I mean, back in their home dimension or reality or whatever ye'd like to call it. So yeah, I feel like I can finally breathe again an' nae have to worry whether or not someone I care for is fighting for their life in some dystopian hell. I guess things are pretty good, then." She nodded her head and smiled. "And you?" |

He was noticeably caught off guard by the barking-laugh, suspecting something like that to come from Rahne. "It was sort of impromptu, Sam didn't even know until I was already in Kentucky. I just felt I needed to escape the school for a bit..." Jay says quietly. "I didn't realize I made such an impression on the kids, but it's always nice to have fans of any age...though not really sure how I feel about being compared to Justin Beiber, though I suppose popularity is popularity." he shrugs. "But if they want to see me again, I often practice playing and singin' outside the school. Been planning on looking for a club or two to play at, maybe get some extra money for a new amp or guitar." he smiles. "But I'm sure I could maybe come by your class or something..." Jay chuckled a bit. "I've um, been doing a bit of soul searching back home. Ran into a few old friends back there, got the band back together for a farewell show. Visited my ex's grave, not that much of the family seems to be happy about me doing anything with her, even if she's dead." |

Rahne's facial expression soured some as Jay spoke about needing time away. It was a concept she really didn't understand much, needing to escape this place. To leave, where there were people who cared for you, who were invested in your well-being? She didn't quite get that at all. "Escape?" she asked, the frown on her face deepening some. "Why would ye want t' do that? I mean sure, things get rough here, but we always pull through it..." But Rahne was never much one to stay in a sad mood for long, a trait probably influenced by her canine nature. The smile returned to her face as Jay's part of the conversation became more positive. "I think they'd like that, actually," she said with a nod. "Well, the girls for sure. An' aye, Bieber, sure. I may teach 'em, but I don't really pay all too much attention to what they listen to as far as pop music go. Between you an' me, most o' that stuff is outright rubbish anyway." Upon his explanation of what he was doing back in Kentucky, things made a bit more sense. It wasn't that he'd just gone anywhere, he went home, to his family, his friends, and those who he had loved who had passed on. That changed things. "I see," she said, nodding her head. "Well, I suppose I can understand a visit to the family. 'Tis important." She wasn't sure what to say in regards to Julia. She wasn't privvy to that situation, after all. She never knew the girl, never met her family - or the Guthries for that matter. She knew Jay, she knew Sam, and that was really about it. She'd seen the sister Paige a time or two, but didn't really have much of anything to do with her. "Either way, 'tis very good to have you back around, Jay." |

"It certainly is rubish. Most kids these days wouldn't know good music if it fell from the sky." Jay chuckles at the idea. "I grew up listening to my parents old stuff and the radio, just have trouble getting into all this new stuff. Guess I'm just ol' fashioned." The winged teen smirked. Jay liked a lot of music, just most of it came from before he was born. But that was how a lot of "rockers" started. Not that Jay was completely stuck on rock, he actually really liked Country, Blues and even Jazz on occasions. Just he couldn't get into rap or hip hop or anything like that, just didn't rub him the right way. He then sighed. "Yes an escape...hard to believe but unlike my brothers and sisters, I never really wanted to come here Rahne. I've been a mutant since I was 13 and I hid it because I didn't want to come here and leave my family like Sam and Paige did. Ma needed too much help with the young ones and money was tight. I was able to help with music, met Julia that way." He pauses for a moment. "Guessin' Sam never told you about how the Guthrie's and the Cabot's have been feuding for decades now, even more so this generation since half of us Guthrie's are mutants." Jay explains. "Julia was a Cabot but she was nothin' like the others. Some of my family just can't really see that. A Cabot was a Cabot in their eyes." |

"That was one thing about growin' up on Muir - mum had her record collection queued up to the public address system through the Centre, and it just grows on ye. The Beatles, the Stones, The Who... I've listened to it all f'r so long I c'n hardly stand to listen to anyone else," she said with a light chuckle and a shake of her head. The frown came back when he spoke of not wanting to be here. That was a concept she had a tough time understanding. Didn't want to be here? Did he not know? Did he not understand? Helping with the family was one thing, but with an education fit for someone of their unique genetic material, he'd be capable of so much more, right? but she wouldn't question it. Everyone had their own views, and that was that. "Feuding?" Rahne asked, lifting an eyebrow. "Like, like... oh, what's that thing ye've got over here... what's it called... Hatfields and McCoys or what have ye? Or... ohhhhhh..." It was always an interesting thing to see fiction reflected in real life, but she supposed that was what made certain works as poignant as they were - because there was some universal truth in them. "Well, perhaps some day they'll be ready to let go of their bitterness," she said with a nod of her head. "'Tis always a shame for people to hold hate in their hearts for no reason." |

"Yeah like the Hatfield and McCoys...or more so in my case the Montagues and the Capulets from Romeo and Juliet." Jay says. He leaned against the wall of the room, not wanting to sit, but didn't want to keep standing either. "Only my story has Romeo stayin' alive rather than dieing with his love." His voice was soft, remembering the day a bit more so now that he was talking about it. But it wasn't hurting like it usually did, no tears, no heartache like usually felt whenever he began remembering what happened. The beating he got from Ol' Man Cabot, or how he woke up drowning under water with Julia in his arms. "But what happened with Apocalypse, and remembering what happened with Julia, it got me thinking. Which is why I went back...for closure I think. And to make sure my family was doin' alright without me there keeping track of all the little ones. Not that there are all that many there anymore, half my family is here in New York pretty much now." It was just odd, summarizing things like that. Was that what he really wanted by going back? Closure?. It'd been over a year now since Julia died. Maybe it was about time to really move on. Just work towards making sure no one he loved ever got hurt again. "But yeah, Beatles, Stones, and The Who, all good stuff. But also like stuff by Cash, Sabbath, and Skynrd, naturally." He smiles jumping back to the music topic. "Though I've been getting into some newer stuff that isn't too bad, some of its pretty fun to play." |

"Well, I'm glad ye got that closure, then," Rahne said with a closed-mouth smile as she placed her right hand on his shoulder and squeezed lightly. She didn't want to make the comparison herself, but since he had there was no need to worry about it. "I'm sure they're doin' just fine - they've produced some outstanding young men, an' I'm sure yuir sisters are no less - that takes a certain level of integrity an' strength of will - I'd doubt yuir family would cave without ye." It was a thought she'd had herself from time to time - just how Moira was managing without her there to help. But she knew that Moira McTaggert was a strong woman, possessed of a nigh-irrepressible spirit that would never surrender, never quit, and never allow herself to be dependent on anyone, even her adopted daughter. "Well, ye know that a good many of us are always here for ye if'n ye get t' feelin' sad about things or even if ye just need a cryin' shoulder. Granted, it may nae be best to go to Mister Summers or Mister Logan for that, but... well, ye know my door's always open if ye need it." As he mentioned certain songs being fun to play, the wheels in her head began to turn. Ideas forming. "Ye know we've got a few aspiring musicians here on campus." |

Jay nodded to Rahne's words about her open door policy, though he wasn't exactly sure if he'd ever use it. He knew he was a loner, and liked to take care of things that were his problems himself rather than put them on others. He was supposed to be the open ear or shoulder to cry on, not the other way around after all. "Yeah I've heard that there are quite a few since I first came here. But honestly I've done the whole band thing, and it was fun, but if I'm gonna do anything musical any time soon I think I'll be going for something solo, least for the moment." Jay explains with a shrug but smiles at Rahne anyways. "Well I need to be going, gotta finish unpacking and do some laundry, just wanted to stop down here and tell ya I'm back." Jay says standing up straighter, his wings stretching out a bit. "So yeah, it's nice to see you again Rahne and..." he looked hesitent for a moment before he leaned in and gave her a quick hug before pulling back. "And thanks for listening." he whispered very quietly, just so she would barely even be able to hear him with her enhanced hearing. |
