Time of day: Night (9:00PM) Place in the time-line: August 4th Everything is always so peaceful at night, with the night sky covering men and women alike with a dark blanket as they closed their eyes to enjoy another night of rest and dreams. Twinkling night lights danced across the sky, sparkling through the deep blue. No pillow like clouds on this night though, but there was the current of warm summer air that ran across the land known as America on this August night. And a young man would look up to embrace it all. But that wasn't what New York was like. The sky was dark, but there were few if any sparkling decorations across the sky. One could blame the air and light pollution of the Big Apple for that. But in this little area of the famous state, there was another young man atop the roof of a large property that also was attempting to take the beauty of the night in. Deep in reminiscent memory of the past as he looked through the dark glory and vast emptiness. It was so strange, he knew he flew through this sky more times than he could count, but it was just always different to look at it at night. But then there in the distance he saw something that actually caught his attention near the large white lunar orb, an actual star. A bright star, the only one he could see on this night. A rare treat for the winged teenager as he looked up to the sky. He couldn't help but remember a childhood classic. Happier times. A low humming began to sound out from his throat as Jay began singing an old tune from a Disney classic in his head. 'When you wish upon a star Makes no difference who you are Anything your heart desires Will come to you If your heart is in your dream No request is too extreme When you wish upon a star As dreamers do Fate is kind She brings to those who love The sweet fulfillment of Their secret longing Like a bolt out of the blue Fate steps in and sees you through When you wish upon a star...' "Your dreams come true..." Jay sang softly out loud, ending the song. He took a deep breath remembering how he used to always get a bunch of his younger siblings to believe that actually wishing upon the first star you see in the night that whatever they wished for would come true to them. Jay wasn't sure if wishing ever helped, he couldn't think of anything he'd wish for other than to bring back the people he has lost. But the dead do not come back, sadly, even if you're an angel. The warm wind caressed his smooth face and through his dark red hair, blowing it back. It was quiet, and he had no idea who may sneak up on him. |

Megan wasn't very much of a sleeper. She just had so much energy all the time that she didn't really tire easily. It wasn't necessarily late, but even at nine o'clock at night Megan was as bouncy and energetic as she was at six o'clock in the morning. The girl knew nothing of grogginess or growing tired. She never felt sluggish, or as if she had the weight of the world on her shoulders because she didn't get enough sleep. Regardless of the length, every sleep was a good night's sleep for Megan. She never needed coffee or caffeine to wake her up in the mornings either. If anything she needed a good sleeping pill to knock her out at night time. Otherwise she was the human incarnation of the Energizer Bunny - pink hair and all, with the addition of wings of course. That night was no different. The grounds were starting to empty as students of all ages either went to bed, or began getting ready to do as such. Megan however, was still occupying these grounds. Specifically the flower garden. The girl was dressed as eccentrically as ever, not one single colour matching. She had simply woken up in the morning, pulled clothes of her drawer and said to herself, "self, I think I feel like wearing this today." Megan paid no mind to the dwindling of the students around her, as she was far too preoccupied with the flowers. She was gently stroking the petals of some of the prettier flowers in the garden, and very desperately wanted to pick them. So she did. She sat at the very edge of one of the piles of flowers and began picking all different assortments of flowers, creating a very colourful and strange bouquet in her hand. When she stood up and began making her way over another bush, trotting and wiggling happily along, she heard something... something that made her stop dead in her tracks and listen. Megan turned her head in the direction of the sound and began walking towards it. As she got closer her wings began to carry her up just about as high as she could go - to the bottom of the roof of Xavier's. The sound that she was hearing was a song, one that she knew very well, and one that she firmly believed in. Megan's perpetual smile grew only wider as she walked up the side of the roof and reached the source of the sound. A boy it seemed, with very large red wings. His back was facing her, but she strolled on up to him anyway and plopped her merry bottom down beside him. She swayed gently as she listened to the words, looking up to the sky to see if she could find a star to wish upon. When she noticed the bright sky near the moon, Megan nearly squealed in happiness. Not wanting to startle the boy out of his song through, she stuck to simply wiggling about as she made her wish. She didn't wish for anything for herself, goodness no. Rather, every time Megan saw a start and wished upon it, she wished that everyone could simply let go of their fears and grudges or whatever was ailing them, and that they simply be able to enjoy their lives in happiness. After all, they only got so many years to live, why waste any preoccupied with negativity? The small girl just wanted everyone to be happy and enjoy themselves, that was all she wished. When both her wish and the song were finished, Megan allowed a very rare moment of silence to pass between herself and the boy beside her, before picking herself up and zooming in front of his face. "Ye have a very lovely voice y'know," spoke Megan cheerily, offering him a smile. "Do ye like Disney movies too? They're my favourites, which one do ye like best?" asked Megan, propping her chin up with her hand as she hovered in front of him, absolutely nothing but air supporting her. "Oh by the by, my name is Megan, but ye can call me whatever ye like," said the girl with a smile, reaching out one hand for him to shake. "My nickname or whatever ye call it is Pixie though, kinda like Pixie Hollow! Y'know, where Tinkerbell is from! What's yer name?" |

"Yaaahah!" A very odd sound of surprise came from the elder teenager as the petite pixie plopped herself right in front of his line of vision without him even getting a chance to notice her. By reflex and instinct alone the crimson feathers flapped, sending him back away from her in astonishment, causing him to fly into the air briefly almost like it was more of an extended jump with greater hang time. But he came down as his mind caught up with the visage of the younger girl. He let out a heavy breath, slightly embarrassed that he was just so suddenly spooked by such a small girl. He managed to be able to catch her compliment and and questions about the song and Disney movies in general. He really didn't think he had ever seen the girl before, and it honestly made him rethink back to his conversation with Laurie about how Disney could be anywhere at any time. Nah that'd just be too freaky. "Um thanks, though my mutation actually does a lot of the work. I just have to remember the words and timing." Jay confessed rather quickly, he wasn't ashamed of the fact that his immense vocal talent came from his mutation, why should he be? Athletes aren't ashamed of their natural size giving them an edge. Nor are models ashamed of flaunting their beauty to get jobs just because they look good. Why should there be anything wrong with using his natural talents to succeed? It was a question he often wanted to ask people who didn't agree with his opinion about it. He straightened himself out and walked closer back towards her to his original place on the roof. "Disney movies are alright, I used to love them as a kid, and so did my siblings, so I just got to watch each one over a hundred times as I saw each of my brothers and sisters grow up. But I can't really say which one I like the best." He was honest at least, he was never really one to dismiss childhood memories, especially the ones involving his dad, but he was older now, a young adult, it was time to grow up. "Well Megan, I go by Jay, Jay Guthrie." The red angel responded to the pink pixie. Her nickname or codename whatever it was, it was pretty freaking accurate with the way she looked and seemed to act. She almost seemed to glow bright pink in the night light, almost creepy. "My codename, although I barely use it, is Icarus, like the guy who flew too close to the sun and fell back to Earth." Yeah, kind of depressing by comparison. |

Megan laughed merrily as he flew into the air and away from her, the sound of her giggle remarkably similar to that of a tinkling bell. Sometimes the reactions she got from people were just so silly! Why should a big man with really big red wings be scared of such a small girl like herself? What she didn't know or understand, however, was that she was often a very surreal sight. Someone would be going about their merry business, and all of a sudden a pink-haired girl with black eyes and iridescent wings would be floating in front of them babbling on as if they were life-long friends. Most people found it quite the shock. "You made a funny noise!" remarked Megan gleefully, still giggling even as he slowly made his way down to her. "Don't worry, I don't bite." As he spoke, Megan busied herself with hovering around, examining the roof's shingles before zooming back around to come face-to-face with him. Sometimes, people swore she wasn't listening to a word they said, but she did. She had an incredible multitasking ability, although it wasn't rare to see her get too confused while trying to do too many things at once, at which point she would complain about her brain hurting. "So your mutation is you sing really well and have wings?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. "That's a sort of funny mutation. They don't really make much sense together do they?" Megan chuckled a bit at this curious man before her. So strange. So if he didn't have a mutation, she supposed he wouldn't be very much of a good singer at all. "So did the mutant gene just give ye some really good vocal chords? Did yer whole voice change or just yer singin' voice?" Megan began fidgeting just a little bit as she spoke. Normally she was doing something with her hands, such as collecting things. she began looking around to see if there was any sort of activity she could partake in while sitting on the roof, but came to a loss. Luckily she was engaged in conversation again, and her focus turned from her fidgeting hands to the boy in front of her. "I really like 'em, those were the only moves that were played in my house," explained Megan with a bright smile. "I didn't mind of course! I think my favourite is Alice in Wonderland, because it's just so strange. I wish Wonderland really existed, that would be swell," said Megan quickly with a nod. "Neverland would be great too, a place where ye never have to grow up! And me and Tinkerbell could become jolly good friends! Ye really don't have an absolute favourite? One ye would watch over and over again and never tire of it?" She really was quite possibly the most childish person at Xavier's Institute. She had been stuck in the same childish frame of mind all of her life shielded from the ideas of hate, war and violence. Since being at Xavier's she's had to wake up just a little bit, but she refuses to let such things tarnish her ever-innocent view of the world as she knew it. "Hi there Jay!" said Megan excitedly, sticking out her hand - which happened to be covered in glitter from the day's previous events - for him to shake it. "I'm going to call ye Redwing, I think." Megan nodded as if this made the utmost of sense. She wrinkled her nose when he explained his codename to her. "Well that's just not very good is it? Why would ye be named after a man who fell from the sun? Sometimes the codenames they choose here make no sense. Well except mine, because I may as well be a pixie aye?" "So Redwing, how long have you been here and how come I haven't seen you? I think I would remember seeing a big red-winged man, aye?" |

“Well it’s…” He paused as it seemed like she wasn’t paying attention until she looked at him again. “Well, I’m thinking it is more like a bird, birds sing and can mimic sounds and such, plus they have wings. So I guess they do make some sense together.” Jay explained as he talked about his mutation. As long as she didn’t try relating his power to a parrot, he’d be fine. God did he hate it when people compared him to a parrot. “And no, I’ve always been able to sing, just the mutation helps and stuff, allows me to hit a wider range.” Well any range of sound, he thought. “Kind of happened right about the time my voice changed like all little boys and girls go through in puberty.” “I suppose I like the ones with catchy songs. The more the better, usually.” Jay shrugged. He liked Disney movies, he admitted that, but this girl, this little pixie, she was in love with them or something. Maybe she was a tad delusional or something. “I don’t know about having any of those places becoming real, might be a little freaky, especially Wonderland. And some of us enjoy growing up.” He smirked. He didn’t quite see the glitter until after he was already shaking her hand, some if it ended up getting on his own hand. Don’t rub your head, don’t rub your head, don’t rub your head! he chanted in his mind, he knew he’d never hear the end of it if from Jeb if he walked into their room with glitter in his hair. “How bout we just stick with Jay, kay?” He asked not sure if he could really stop her from using a nickname. “And there is a good reason I chose the codename...” he said softly. “I’d just rather not talk about it.” “I’ve been here like a little over a year or so, but I left for about a month back and came back mid-June. I’ve sort of been a shut in or out in the city mostly. Or in the forest just flying around.” He shrugged. |

Megan nodded as Jay attempted to explain his power to her. What he was saying about the correlation between a bird's musical voice and winged appearance and his made sense, but the mind of Megan Gwynn refused to accept it. She preferred her explanations nonsensical, life was much more fun that way. So, she would continue to believe that his mutations made absolutely no sense and had no possible correlation. But to please him, she simply continued to nod along as if she agreed with every word he was saying. She had come to learn recently that people preferred their logic to hers - sometimes hers even upset them - and although she didn't understand why, she decided that the best thing to do was just let people have their silly common sense and be done with it. As long as everything went her way in her head, she was just fine. "So you can sing anything you want? Could you sing 'Be Prepared' and sound exactly like Scar?" she asked, actually interested. That would be so cool! I could replay every movie I've ever seen and be all the different characters myself! That idea really excited the small fairy-like girl. She'd be able to sing every song from every movie/musical she'd ever seen and sound just like the character! It was like a dream come true, and for just a fraction of a second, Megan was actually jealous of someone else's power. But only for a fraction of a second, before she was distracted by a firefly zooming around beside her head. She nodded along. "I like the songs too. I like to sing along with them, but I'm not as good as you would be," she said with a smile. She was a little upset that he didn't agree that having Neverland or Wonderland being real would be fun. She often found herself wandering through small wooded areas trying to find a rabbit hole that she could fit through, or attempting to fly high enough to actually reach the second star to the right. Of couse she had little success because rabbit holes were, in reality, way too small for her to fit through. She'd have to find a mushroom first. And, whenever she tried to fly that high, her wings tired body weight pulled her back down to the ground. But dang it if she didn't try! Megan smiled at him wen he took her offered hand. Some people just stared at her like she was nuts, as if her hand was diseased or something. If anything, they should want to touch her hand just for the glittery bonus they would receive. When he forbid her nicknames and asked her to stick to Jay, she frowned just a little. But she gave everyone nicknames! Oh well, she would just have to stick to using it only within her own head. In public, she would call him Jay, and in her head she would be thinking Redwings. Now, Megan was always one to pry, but the look on Jay's face when he said he would rather not discuss his codename, the small girl simply nodded and went about staring up at the stars. "That's okay we can talk about something else! Like..." Megan went quiet for a few moments as she tried to think of a topic... before getting briefly distracted by the firefly again. "Oh! Do you have any brothers or sisters?" she asked absently, making small-talk. "Oh, you should start hanging around the school more! There's a lot of nice people around to talk to," explained Megan. She really didn't understand why anyone would want to be a shut-in. No company would drive the girl nuts. She constantly needed people to talk to, and if she were to spend more than an hour or two by herself she would talk herself into insanity. "We could fly together some time if you want," she suggested, happy to offer her company to anyone who would accept it. "I'm not very fast and I can't go very high, but it's the company that counts right? And if I get tired I could just ride on your back or something," she said with a smile, hovering next to him. |
