Date: August 1st Time: 11.00 AM This is going to be Mark's very first day attending Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. He didn't know what to expect. After having a talk with Jack Russell, whom is also a mutant, he knew that he belonged here. The thought of a school just for mutants was freaking awesome that he could not believe those words. Yet, he could now, because here he was at the big entrance gates about to enter the supposed school. This was shortly after Stacey, both his aunt and adoptive mother, had been with him to visit the school and they both immediately agreed that he had to be enrolled. After finally being let into the grounds, Mark dropped his jaw and stared in awe. The school was pretty much a mansion. He did hear and see those expensive, private schools; but this was something far beyond that. The exterior was designed with that old-styled term that Mark did not know of; there was a large, detailed statue of a bald man in the middle of the courtyard; there were gardens to both sides filled with the greenest flowers and plants; and the air just smelt like.... normal air. Walking in, a girl was was definitely staring at him, he smiled back. Seeing that her mouth was moving, but no sound was heard; he thought that she was mute and had some sort of communication powers, so he just waved. Suddenly, she gave him a stern look and walked off angrily. Talking to himself, "What did I do?" Scratching his ear, he felt that his ear-buds were still in. "Oh, dangit. I should start taking these out after a while." Finally, listening to the last song, being Billie Jean; Mark turned his iPod off after noticing that it was about to die. Going through all of that welcoming stuff, he found his way to his dorm, throwing his backpack onto the bed. Quickly, he took out his charged and plugged his iPod in. Hopefully, this would charge fast enough, because without his music, he was basically not a mutant. So he plopped down on his bed and waited. Being too lazy to even unpack his stuff, he just sat on his bed looking out of the room's window. There were students playing and even seemed to be training. Though, it was not normal. Some were flying, some were teleporting, some were even going through things that used to be impossible. Amazed at the fact, he really wanted to use his powers now. Looking at the clock, it has passed thirty minutes and his iPod was half charged. He didn't care, so he took it anyways, along with his earphones. Someone told him that an older student was supposed to give him some time of tour and that he was supposed to stay in his room until then, but he decided to leave to the pool. What was the whole point of waiting in a hot room for who knows how long, when there was a pool probably with some hot chicks waiting for you just outside?! Outside; he found an empty chair at the pool side, lazily plopped down, and listened the the wonderful sound of music. Placing shades on his eyes to block the sun, he laid back and rested. Suddenly, he noticed a hot blonde walking over to him. |

Last night, Amara had been informed that they were getting a new student. She really didn't know what the point of that was.. Up until the point where they told her that the student would be given a tour of the institute.. By Amara herself. Amara didn't really mind it, but she would have preferred a little more warning. Though that couldn't really be helped. She had gotten up early that morning, mainly because the student had been flown in from Los Angeles, California. That was the city that they were always talking about on the television; with all the celebrities. What was with them, anyway? A lot of them were the same.. Plus, did you ever see a mutant celebrity? Other than Dazzler, of course. The school had many of promising students that could end up in Hollywood, though. The student that Amara would be taking on this.. Tour, had powers that her affected by what music he listened to. His name was supposedly Mark Sheppard. Though Amara had heard of most of the students at the school, there were a few new ones whose names escaped her. They escaped her easily; though the students that were here when Amara herself was a student, she remembered their names easily. Such as Kelrian Alther or Anne Lee Austin, and her brother, Robert. That reminded her -- she should probably pursue a higher education. Though, that could wait for a later date. Probably, at least. You couldn't rush learning.. Or perfection, for that matter. At seven, she'd gotten herself out of bed and dressed in some of her better casual clothing. At eight, she had breakfast. At nine she read for about an hour and a half and now it was 10:30 AM, she should probably start heading up to his dorm room. Hopefully, his dorm mate, if he had one, was already out of the room and enjoying his Sunday. After all, the weekend was nearly over and other than holidays, the students really never had a chance to relax. It wasn't like the mansion was the safest place in the world. Even if it WAS one of the safest places for mutant kind... One could probably also call Mutant Town safe... ...Probably. Slowly walking from her dorm to Mark's, she peered in the door to find the room empty. Had he not arrived yet, or was he simply too impatient to stay in the dorm? Only time would tell, Amara sighed a bit and headed out of the room towards the staircase. This was where she ran into one of the other students, Alyson Hart. "Oh, Miss Hart!" Amara said. She needed to ask someone if they had seen someone that looked like Mark walking around the school grounds. "...Huh?" The brunette said, turning around towards the taller blond. "Have you seen a boy around say, your age, with black hair and brown eyes.. And is about 5'10"?" Aly blinked a bit and tilted her head to the side. "...Come to think of it, I think there was someone like that going towards the pool when I was coming inside from the gardens." Amara nodded her head. "Thank you, miss Hart!" She said, as she began down the flight of steps. "Yea, don't mention it...! Erm, that was Amara Aquilla.. Right?" The brunette said, though no one was around to hear her. About ten minutes later, Amara had made her way to the pool.. there she noticed the boy lounging in a chair as if he had nothing to do. "Excuse me, but.. Are you Mark Sheppard? The new student?" |

It was just awesome. 3OH!3's song "Starstrukk" was probably one of his favorite songs, because it featured one of his other favorite artists, Katy Perry. Seeing as how both the two guys from Colorado and the California babe were in a song together just put a smile on Mark's face. His vision became sort of blurry, because the dark, green tint from his sunglasses were on. Though, he did believe that wearing these shades did make him look cool. Probably impress most of the girls at the school. This certain song gave him a special power, but it was quite difficult at performing. His mutants abilities give him three, special energy-based powers depending on the genre of song he was currently listening to at the time.Starstrukk was definitely a more dance-like song, which gave him the capability to manipulate and bend light. This normally came from the tip of his fingers. Laying on the pool chair, he stared at his hands while they moved around in a circular motion, creating a white light in a wavy form. As his fingers danced to the song, the light moved with such ease. Soon afterward, he was interrupted by the sight of a smoking, hot blonde walking up towards him. Never was that a bad thing; Mark turned down his music and the light emitting from his fingers died down to a dim white. As she was getting closer, he took his shades off and noticed that she did look a bit older, but not by much. Not by much at all. Before he could speak to her, she greeted him by saying his name and calling him a new student. Word gets around quickly here. That girl he saw earlier was probably telling everyone else that a hot, new student just arrived. "Yeah, I am Mark Sheppard, you can call me DJ if you'd like." He sweetly smiled at her and asked her back, "I'd love to have your name as well. Seeing as you already know mine." Smirking a bit, he wondered why she was even here. Yes, it was possible that she just wanted to talk to him; but, maybe she was the one that is supposed to give him the tour? Hopefully, the latter wasn't true. Actually, that would sort of be a good thing; a cute girl touring you around. |

Amara simply stared at the student; he was as... Well, he seemed to be cocky and flirtatious. As if the school really needed another Julian Keller; even if it wasn't in the form of a telekinetic. Though - Amara hadn't had enough encounters with either Julian or this, Mark Shepard, or as he insisted that he be called.. DJ. Was that the codename he had in mind, or something? Given his power scheme, it seemed a little cliche. But Amara wouldn't judge, just yet. At least not until she got to know him a little better.. Hey, was he coming on to her, or was that just the tone in his voice? It didn't really matter. “I am Amara Oliviana Julians Aquilla. And I would prefer it if you were not so formal with me; we have only just met. I’m not sure how they do it where you come from, but where I come from.. We don’t just begin to pursue people that simply come up to you; that is so… Common.” Amara nearly snapped these words to the young boy; that was just how she was raised. It was just.. Awful, in Nova Roma, for people to actually brand people that were as informal to their fellow townspeople, and basically, countrymen, as common. Vulgar. Improper. All of these words fit to a T, and Amara was sure that, eventually, DJ would learn how she reacted to things such as this. “…Now, moving on. The faculty assigned me to be the one that showed you around the mansion. I expect it from you not be so informal as we progress on, all right?” Amara said, her voice was little bit calmer. That was mainly because as she snapped at the younger male, not only did she feel a little bit.. Uneasy, about it, because he was a student, and only two years younger then her. But also, Amara had felt the ground beginning to shake, she then she knew that it was time to stop. |

While the girl was staring at him, he tried to wonder the most basic things about her. What was her name? How old was she really? What sort of mutant abilities did she have? Did she like men? All of these questions swarmed his head the first second that he saw a girl. Yet, he only had a few moments to figure them out for himself. It does get annoying if someone constantly asked him questions all day long, he didn't want to become his own annoyance. Slowly putting his dark, black shades back on his eyes to give off an attracting vibe, he imagined what questions she would be asking herself about him... Hopefully nothing negative, because Mark was a very optimistic kind of guy. Finally, the petite blonde revealed her name to be 'Amara Oliviana Julians Aquilla.' That name was quite long, very long actually. What was the real point in having those awfully long names. It probably was just her full name, not the simple 'first and last,' but still, did one really have to greet themselves with that title? Besides that whole concept, Mark actually liked her name. It really did fit her elegant and classy appearance; also, her very formal speech.... which may get annoying through time. Sure, Amara was one hot chick, but she was quite... is bossy the word? Quickly taking his shades off, he slightly lifted his back off of the chair. "Wait a minute. Do you see me telling you to change the way you talk?" Mark ignored what she was telling him, but still got the vague basics of it. "We are all mutants. We are all different. Meaning that we all look, act, dress, and especially talk differently." Slumping back into the 'tanning' chair. "Maybe, from where you come from, this is against the suggestive morals that your society has created for you. However, for me? I have learned to accept others." Sure, Mark may have seemed to being rude or blunt, but that is just the way he is. Especially when it came to this whole concept of individualism, mostly mutants, he made sure that he was able to add his two cents in. Okay, maybe this Amara chick had some sort of authority over him.... but those are exactly the ideas that Mark opposed to. "Sorry." No matter what age or anything that you may be, does not give one a right to be all powerful. Yeah, there should be some restrictions, very slight and loose ones; but the line should never be crossed. "I just have strong feelings." It was definitely not Amara's fault, because maybe that is what she believed in. Mark just wanted to make sure that himself and others understood each other. [Sorry, if this post seems really passionate. I am currently taking a Psychology class, with this current subject being learned. xD] |

After Amara was finished speaking, Mark removed his sun glasses and lifted himself off the chair. It seemed that Amara had touched a nerve with the young, indiscreet, male. Amara had been raised to be very prim, and very proper.. And very much a prude. That was because of her upbringing, as she was basically a princess. Her father was the first senator of Nova Roma, and she herself had stepped in for a bit herself. This was all during the apocalypse; Nova Roma had been hit considerably hard by the effects of Famine. Though, of course, they had also felt the effects of when the world quite literally ended. Shortly after that, Amara had returned to America and to the X-Men as normal as a mutant such as herself could be. Her personality had always been this way. Or, it had as long as she could remember. As Mark finished speaking, her plopped back down in the chair and Amara crossed her arms over her chest and stared down at the young boy. "That may be so, but anyone with proper manners would at least follow ones request. Now... Please?" Amara said, trying to keep herself calm. It wasn't like she was still a student and learning how to control her abilities and trying to make sure that she didn't accidentally make the entire school fall to the ground. “Even though you seem to say that you respect others, you do not act that way.” Amara said, a quaint tone in her voice. Though shortly after she said this, Mark apologized. Amara slowly nodded her head. “…Apology accepted. I am sorry as well.” Amara then looked around at the pool. “I believe we should get our tour started?” |

Mark was really close to placing his earphones back into his ears, ignoring Amara, but he realized that he should listen to what she had to say as well. After all, she stood their patiently after his whole ramble about his feelings and whatever; he should do the same to her. "Yeah, I'd love to make you feel most comfortable, Miss Aquilla." He laughed to himself in his thoughts, because it seemed that they had switched roles. After what he had just said, it sounded that he was the tour-guide, and she was the new student. Mark looked up to her and sweetly smiled. "However..." He broke his smile and now gave off a sly smirk. "I believe that people should act most like themselves once they get to know each other more." Raising his arms up, he falsely stretched with a long yawn. Taking his shades back off for the second time, he finally looked at her straight into her eyes, with his eyes. "So, we should get to know each other before we do anything." Scratching his lower, left back, his eyes drifted off to another vision while he thought of some questions that would have been interesting enough to get a conversation going. In actuality, Mark was just too lazy to get up and walk around the mansion. He would eventually find out where everything was, right? Especially all of the secret hiding spots and fun rooms. "Miss Aquilla, correct? I've been wondering. Where are you really from?" The whole personality acting thing created this question for him. She was very classy and proper, making Mark really want to know where she came from. All young adults and teenagers from the United States these days were most like Mark, himself, but Amara seemed quite different. She definitely was not from the United States, she probably grew up in a totally different country. Now it really got him interested. |

Amara nodded her head. He was beginning to act more calm. More relaxed. More.. Tolerable. Or at least, he was for now. Amara didn't know if he would suddenly start acting like he had before. That wouldn't really surprise her one bit, a lot of the students at the school really didn't act as civilized as Amara herself did. Some were hyper. Some, literally, bounced off the walls. And others simply kept to themselves and had to wear skin concealing outfits and uniforms. The perfect example of this was Wither. Kevin Ford's only mutation was a death touch. Any organic material that he touch, would nearly instantly turn into ash. "Please. Call me Magma. I feel that if we if going to get more comfortable with one another, we should at least call one another by the names that most refer to us as. Is your's Mark, or is it DJ...?" Amara asked, a curious tone in her voice as her blue orbs stared at the black haired male and her blond hair shined in the sunlight nearly as bright as her magma form shined in any time of the day. Then, Mark once again removed his sun glasses and stared at Amara in her face. His eyes were a milky brown, that was actually quite admirable. Plus, it made him look quite handsome. "As long as you do not get handsy." Amara teased at Mark's comment that they should get to know each other better before they did anything. Really, Amara was planning on getting the tour done just so she could actually get acquainted with the student as it was. Though, it turned out that that wasn't really possible for the Nova Roman, especially because the boy was talkative and seemed insistent to stay seated where he was. Then, Mark asked exactly where Amara was from. It was surprising to hear something such as that come from the boy. How did he really know that she wasn't from the states? Was it her demeanor? The way she dresses? Amara sighed, and decided to answer. "I am from Nova Roma. A lost civilization hidden by the tree of a Brazilian rain forest. Doctor Hank McCoy, AKA Beast, found me and brought to the states... To Xavier's, after my mutant abilities had manifested. I've been here, mainly, ever since." |

His hands fumbled with his sunglasses. They were really expensive. He got them from his aunt for his sixteenth birthday. The exact price had left his mind, but he still remembered that they were really valuable. So he made sure that he would keep them as safe as he could. Clutching it tightly, but ever-so gently, in his left palm, he listened to Amara speak. "Magma? Cool name." Mark took a bit to think if he should request to be called DJ or Mark by her. It seemed that Magma was Amara's codename, so maybe she wanted to call him by his codename. "Yup, you are correct. It's DJ." He smiled again and played a little gesture. Taking his right hand to his ear, and his left hand, with the shades, he started to move them as if he was moving a disc. When he stopped, Magma suddenly revealed that she was from... NOVA ROMA! For one, Mark had never heard of that place in his life. However, it seemed really interesting, sounded like Rome. Back in high school, when they were studying the history of the world, he remembered that Rome was the most interesting; actually getting good test grades for that section of the class. Looking up and blinking his eyes like a little child at Magma. This was so interesting. Especially since it was not exactly Ancient Rome, but a hidden civilization deep in the forests of Brazil. "I knew it!" Exclaiming while throwing his arms up, "That just makes you all the more interesting." Putting his arms back down, "I'm just from dirty, old Los Angeles." |

Though her codename was considerably self explanatory, Magma felt that it fit no matter how cliche it may have been. She liked it, as it fit both her firey personality and her, now obvious(or at least, she thought so) mutation because of her code name. Amara nodded her head, it was nice that Mark thought her code name was nice. She thought it was, she was the one that picked it anyway. "DJ. Self explanatory as music is basically fuel for you. Creative, however. I don't think I've ever met anyone else with a two word code name. Good job with that." Amara said, nodding her head. It was the truth, she really hadn't. As Amara stated her native land, it took a few seconds for it to sink in to the younger student. Amara was from a land that was entirely different and something that he hadn't heard of. In a way, Amara was probably the most exotic person or thing that he had ever laid eyes on. Further more, she would probably remain as such for a while. Students don't really seem to get out of the institute much, it was really an odd subject when it came to that stuff. The teachers protected and guarded the students, maybe a little to much, until they were old enough to be at least Junior X-Men... Wait, did he say he was from Los Angeles? "The city of angels...? I have never been there. What is it like?" |

After hearing the comment that Magma made about his musical abilities, and how it related to his codename were satisfying. It was a good thing that she didn't say some proper, sarcastic remark that she would not have even realized that it was rude. Most proper persons were like that, but Mark did not really care. All people are different, so he respected that fact. "My codename? Yeah, it's my first day here and I already have a codename." He just realized that, and started laughing to himself in confusion. Don't students usually get code names later on during their time spent there? Including fun stories of how they got their code names. However, Mark just called himself DJ, because of his powers.... just like the geek he was. "Yes!" Mark did not know why he had just exclaimed that with a lot of enthusiasm. Didn't he just say that he didn't like being from the City of Angels? Sure, it's one of the most famous cities in the states, that houses several of celebrities; and also where the magic happens. However, besides the fact that it was easy to become a star by living in the city where you can be easily noticed, it was not as great as it sounded. "Despite all of the stories of how it's just full of celebrities, which people think is good; it's not." Mark looked at Magma and nodded his head. "It's literally dirty, full of crimes, and the strangest of people live there." After a quick two seconds, "I wish that I lived where you had grown up." Mark took a moment to remember the name of that hidden country, "Nova Roma." |

Amara nodded her head and began laughing. He was right, it was his first day, and she had basically confirmed what was probably a nickname for himself that was given to him by his friends from his home town as a nickname. But to be fare, even if Amara wasn't up to terms with all of the recent slang, it still fit Mark properly. It was music that gave him his powers, and guess what DJ's did? They worked with music. It was fitting, even with his personality. That made Amara wonder, though, what were DJ's plans in life? Did he plan to pursue a career in music? Did he want to be a, well, DJ? Even though Mark initially seemed to express disdain and disgust about his home town, when Amara asked if she was correct in her terminology, he seemed to be really enthused. Though that was, most probably, an exaggeration on Mark's behalf. "Though.. It is full of celebrities?" Amara asked, confused as to what Mark meant. Sure, it may have been dirty, but it WAS common knowledge that celebrities mainly lived in an area that was referred to as Beverley Hills. "I suppose that that may not be such a good thing, for them anyway." Then Mark had looked at Amara with a bit of sincerity in his eyes, saying that he wished that he had grown up in Nova Roma. "Well.. As a child, I had multiple hits put out on me by my fathers political rival, whose wife just so happened to be my late grandmother Selene at the time. My childhood wasn't entirely happy, either." |

Mark neutrally laughed at the question that Magma made of the celebrity comment. "Well... the general thought process for most people living outside of Southern California thinks that all people that become celebrities are made famous in L.A.." He then made a gesture with his hands, mostly taking notice of himself. It was supposed to mean I was born and raised there, but yet, I'm not a celebrity? Mark expressed slight disgust through his face. It was annoying, that everyone always has high standards of what society has created for them. Fuck nurture, love nature. "I'm sure that you, Nova Romans, didn't have all this technology and high standards in life." Thinking back, he remembered what he learned about Ancient Rome in history. "Okay, okay. That was my mistake. You guys probably did have standards, but not like modern society here in the U.S., at the least." While he was talking, his fingers were wrapping his earphones over his iPod. Then he tucked it safely in his pocket. This conversation was getting real interesting, and he didn't want to distract himself with his music. It is known to him that he tends to, unknowingly, put his earphones back in and listen to music... it was just natural for him to do so. "Though, you guys partied and had fun! But in a rather interesting way, not like some high school party that one could easily get to." It was weird, because Mark always put into peer pressure and attended those silly parties, where people thought they had to drink and have sex to fit in. But maybe Magma was bringing out his true self, not the many persons that he pretends to be. Back to his 'cool' self, "Maybe I'll visit your home country someday." Ending with a wink towards Magma. |

"Now, I never said that. I'm sure that a lot of people that live in LA really aren't all that talented. Of course, I do not mean you DJ." Amara said, nodding her head slowly. Sure, they might have had the right look(and on the other hand, they might not.) but talent came in some odd packages as well. You could have the face of a duck, and still be talented in something. Even mothers, all of them that had an actual maternal instinct, were talented. That was because of their love for their children, and how they raised them properly like they did. "Well, we did not have all of this technology. That, I am sure of. We also didn't really have all of this slang that this culture does, we either spoke in our native Latin or in proper English. We did have expectations to meet up to, especially I. I was the daughter of the ruler of the entire city.. Country, what ever you'd like to call it, so ever since birth I was expected to act a certain way and NOT act another certain way." Amara sighed a bit and shut her eyes gently, only to open them only seconds later. It was true that Nova Roma had set expectations for her because of her heritage, and who her family was. And being honest, Amara really didn't like that it did. Amara had noticed a change in Mark's personality, before he had been acting all suave. Cool. Hot-headed. Whatever word meets your fancy. And now he was more like a normal kid. Something like how Doug Ramsey, Cypher, was when Amara had first came to the institute. Amara nodded her head slowly. "Yes. I may take you there some day. I'll have to keep that in mind." |

Mark had taken a hold of his expensive, black sunglasses in his hands once again. Carefully, he started to play with it, using his fingers to spin it around. Realizing that being able to spin a narrow object in your hand, like he was currently doing, could be considered a talent. Stopping and sighing, "Sure, everyone has talent." Hesitating to put them back on his face, covering his eyes; he decided to set them on the side table next to the tanning chair. "Though, the supposed Hollywood just puts too much emphasis on what a talent really is." It was his first day arriving at the school, so he was still tired from all of the packing and moving. This thought also made him remember his aunt, also his adoptive-mother. She was so loving and caring, being able to understand all types of different people. Maybe that is why he was so passionate about the same concepts as well. "Guys have to be muscular, tall, blonde, dark, and handsome to actually be noticed. If you are missing those or have any other qualities, you don't become as famous as those 'all-American boys' do." Mark didn't really make a personal connection to it; the only connection that he did, in fact, have was his living in Los Angeles. "Fu----" Suddenly, before saying 'fuck,' he remembered that it would have been inappropriate language to say around Magma. Actually wanting to respect her, rather than seeing her as another one of his girls to flirt with; he did not say the cuss word. "---dge! Do you like fudge, Amara?" That was a random questions, which was only asked to cover up his foul language. "Really?!" Mark thought about her next statements. She was the daughter of the ruler of Nova Roman. How exciting. Though, he definitely have seen those movies where the daughters of kings are always very restricted and can never have a true social life. "That sounds so fun, even for a guy like me. Though, I understand how stupid it can be as well." When he was thinking of his next words, he was completely distracted when Magma revealed that she may take him to Nova Roma sometime. "Yes! I'll remind you all the time if I have to!" Obviously, that was an exaggeration; but knowing Mark, he takes his words literally sometimes. |
