“Ooo, sounds like fun. I’ll try not to go insane with power,” he joked.

'Yes.' Lucia answered darkly, her eyes narrowing into suspicious slits.

The mention of Rahne's scent triggered another response from Lucia.

Popping her index finger into her mouth, she lathered it with a glossy coat of saliva before pulling it out and holding it up amidst the breeze. Feeling the cold building up on one side of her finger, she was able to deduce that both she and Synch were downwind. Well, that was a bonus for Rahne.

Raising herself several more feet above ground level, she watched as Synch became wreathed in a multi-colored silhouette. The glistening spectacle didn't last long as the fellow soon returned to normal, before he too hoisted himself from the jungle floor and up to join Lucia.

The blonde didn't know whether to be impressed, frightened or suspicious. Were the effects permanent?

Enough of that, Lucia scolded internally. The two of them were supposed to be working as a team.

“Oh… wow.”

'Yes, I can manipulate and create gravity.' Lucia confirmed. 'And like I said, I've got a long way to go.'

She watched Synch float away in the direction of the jungle, no doubt getting a feel for what she could do. His mutation might have given him mastery over whatever abilities he 'borrowed', but it didn't give him experience with it.

Creating and manipulating graviton particles about her body, Lucia took off forward, passing Synch and heading towards the jungle.

'What does the flag actually look like?' she asked over her shoulder. She didn't get too comfortable with her small lead - if Synch could do 'it better', then he was sure to be much faster than she was.

'How big is it?'

With her in such close proximity, Everett would be able to use her powers to their full potential. But he wouldn’t for the fact that she wanted to be surprised at the things she could one day be cable of. Still though, he was going to enjoying having the power of gravity. He looked to the side just as Lucia was passing by him to take the lead. He couldn’t complain about that since, well, it was a great view. His eyes left her, much to their displeasure, to gaze upon their surroundings watching for any signs of movement. Movement in a place like this always equaled danger.

She then asked him a question concerning the flag. “It’s just a plan ol white flag with the ‘X’ symbol on it. The pole attached to it is about four feet in length to make for easier carrying. I programmed it so that every five minutes a beam of light will emit from the base of the flag. That way we know that the opposition hadn’t made it yet.” Just as he finished his sentence, the mentioned beam of light shot up into the sky. Great, they weren’t too slow, they still had a chance. “Lucia, wait.” He paused mid-flight, opened his ears to the jungle. Something was coming, or rather some things.

Everett lowered himself to the ground as he heard a clicking noise. Turning around, something dashed from a thicket of bushes. “Lucia, we’ve got company.” This something was a creature that resembled a dung beetle, only it was the size of a full grown, ready-for-slaughter hog! The creature hissed at them as three more joined in. The most menacing feature of the giant bugs was the large horns on their heads. Get to close to those and you could be impaled, something he wanted to avoid. “Take them down, fast!” Everett reached out with his left hand toward the bug closes to him. With the closing of his hand, the gravity around the creature became ten times heavier causing it to be crushed like, well, a bug.

"Hrrr.... hrrrrr.... hrrrrr...." Rahne's breath growled through clenched teeth as the adrenaline from the attack started to slow down. Her eyes darted around the immediate vicinity, watched as their assailants, what was left of them at least, turned tail and ran.

"Good job," she said, glancing over at Keren. She didn't particularly feel like discussing her little outburst of animalistic aggression and he didn't seem keen on bringing it up, so it was left at that.

"Left, got it," she said with a sharp, affirmative nod, and continued in the direction indicated. She hadn't seen the beacon herself, so she was going to trust his assessment.

"It sounds like the other two may be busy, we need to pick up the pace and take advantage of that," she said, glancing back at her partner momentarily before doing just as she said. She wasn't moving with superhuman speed, not just yet at least. It would be a fairly solid jogging pace to be moving at, which may have been difficult in this jungle brush, but you couldn't win by taking it easy.

That didn't mean however, that she was going to leave Keren eating her dust, so to speak. She was moving quickly, but not so quickly that he couldn't keep pace.

Wolfsbane caught her breath (her composure as well), and the twosome were off again. Keren pushed himself to keep up as he trailed behind her. Half of his brain was focus on the jungle, and the other half on the skies. And as a result he stumbled and tripped many times. Their team had things going running smoothly with Rahne’s senses, and Mal’s bird’s eye view, nothing could surprise them. They were making good time, and thanks to Mal, were able to dodge a small flock of colorful flying dinosaurs. Again, Keren wanted to observe at the creatures almost as much as he wanted to win. Though the monstrosities had no teeth, their claws were long and sharp.

::The beacon went up again….we are getting much closer.:: came Mal’s voice within Keren’s mind. He was about the voice this to his teammate with he stepped into something with a mushy consitancy. He was so focused on Mal, that he hadn’t noticed the large puddle of mud. At least it isn’t dino poo. he thought, rather wildly. Silently cursing, he stepped with his other foot and tried kicking out with the other to get it free. However, instead of the characteristic squelching noise that usually accompanied such things, Keren’s right foot sunk further into the mud. Finally his synapses fired, it wasn’t a puddle of mud, but quicksand.

“Uh Rahne,” he said tentatively. “I think I am stuck…a getting more stuck.” He tried to remain calm and still, but the pose he was stuck in was very uncomfortable. Slowly he began sinking to his knees in the running man’s stance.

Almost on cue a pillar of light pierced the sky in the distance, illuminating the air around it and painting Lucia's features briefly with a white hue. The a spear into the womb of the heavens, it was quite magnificent to behold, if for its fleeting beauty.

'Wow.' the blonde mouthed quietly, enjoying the simple spectacle.

Then, as fast as it had appeared, the rod of light vanished.

Preparing to fly off at faster speeds, Synch's warning held her pace. Pivoting in place, Lucia fixed him with an expectant look, and noted he had paused himself in place, listening. Following suit and straining her ears, Lucia felt her muscles tense when three large insects burst from the foliage, aggressively shaking the spear-like horns affixed to the helms of their chitinous heads.

Lucia was no entomologist, but she could tell a pissed off bug when she saw one.

"Lucia, we've got company! Take them down fast!"

Puzzled as to why Synch had lowered himself onto the ground, and thus made his body susceptible to attack, the blonde watched as her partner destroyed on the creatures effortlessly using her abilities. The splatter of bug-guts and chitin was impressive, as was the speed with which it was accomplished.

Hovering safely above the ground, Lucia reached her right hand towards the other two insects and focused. In a point of space slightly behind the pair of bugs, the blonde created a gravitational sink that immediately drew all things in the spherical area towards it - including the two huge beetles.

Increasing it's strength, Lucia watched as twigs, leaves, dirt and branches were drawn to one tiny point. The two bugs were ripped from the ground and slapped together, back to back, before emitting a skin-crawlingly shrill scream of pain as their bodies were forced into a volume no larger than Lucia's thumbnail by intense gravitational pressure - their numerous, black little legs flailing about at the base of their stomachs. Unable to resist the forces at work, their chitin carapaces shattered and the insects winked out of existence.

When she canceled the sink, the cultivated forest debris fell into a heap across the floor.

Looking at the remnants for a few moments longer in the silence that settled over them, Lucia turned to Synch.

'So...flying is the preferred method.' she uttered with a small, stifled laugh.

As if alerted by the sounds of the dying beetles, a too-close-for-comfort roar split the quiet.

What the hell was that? Lucia wondered, looking in the direction she thought it came from.

'Beneath the canopy.'

Splattering a giant bug was not such a good idea if you’re squeamish. Guts and blood and other bodily fluids shot everywhere from the creature as its last cries of pain were silenced. A second later the remnants vanished into light particles. He was amazed at how awesome Lucia’s powers were and he wasn’t even using them that impressively. Lucia herself on the other hand… damn. He lifted his arm up to shield his face from incoming twigs and chunks of mud or what he hoped to God was mud. She created a sort of vortex that was drawing in anything small enough and that wasn’t rooted to the ground.

He lowered his arm, knocking a few leaves from it. “Hehe. Might be safe in the air from creatures like that. Not so safe from pterodactyls and other flying beasts though.” Wait a minute. This fight wasn’t over yet. Everett had counted four bugs, not three. Where the heck did that last critter go off to? If it had any brains in that thick skull it would be about three miles from Albuquerque. He didn’t have time to locate the last bug for a window shattering roar broke through the air. “Guess I know what happened to the last bug now.” It hadn’t left because of the slaughtering of its kin, but because something way more deadly than two mutants was making its presence known.

“Yea, let’s cut around whatever the hell that was. Flying should shave off the extra time.” He probably should have paid more attention in school or at the very least Jurassic Park so he would know which dinosaur was currently prowling for fresh human. Even with the enhanced intelligence received from his partner, the kid still couldn’t pinpoint the species. “Stick close.” Though after that display of power he didn’t have to worry about her. It was just in his nature to want to protect the fairer sex. Taking the air once more, Everett sped forward veering away from the direction of the hungry dino. The beacon went up once again. Rahne and Keren must have been having a little trouble themselves.

"Ach, hold on a tic," Wolfsbane turned sharply as Keren's foot sloshed into the muck. Brilliant. She couldn't smell it because it wasn't "real". She would have steered clear of it if she had, but it was too easy to keep your sesnsory focus where it normally is, even if in a Danger Room exercise with the side benefit of teaching one how to change focus when and if necessary.

She leapt up into the air, snagging hold of a thick, fairly sturdy branch in the closest tree. Using her pawlike feet as leverage against the trunk of the tree, wrenched the branch off the tree. The wood splintered in a shower of hard-light sparks, and Wolfsbane dropped back to the floor of the jungle.

"Grab hold, and try not to kick too much," she said as she held the branch out for him. Once he had a solid grip, she would pull backwards, the claws on her feet allowing a more firm stance that would prevent her from being pulled in instead.

Once he was far enough out, she'd grabbed a hold of his arm and tugged him out the rest of the way.
"Ye've got to be more careful - 'tis nae just the dinosaurs that are..."

The loud roar resonated through the air, and Rahne's ears perked up, her attention drawn straight to it. Something big and nasty was nearby, something... heading away from the two of them. That meant in all odds, it was heading towards the other two.

"Let's go, and t' hell with the bloody flag," she said, changing their direction so that she was heading towards the dinosaur. If it really was as big as it sounded like it was, Everett and Lucia were in a dangerous spot.

Winning the game paled in comparison, as far as Rahne was concerned.

By the time Wolfsbane snagged a branch, Keren was waist deep in the sand pit. He welcomed the sound of the branch snapping, and gripped hard when Rahne presented it to him. Keeping his body limp, finally being able to relax, Rahne pulled him out of the well. The lower half of his body was now completely covered in the slippery mud. “Sorry.” He said, a slight blush on his face. “I was so focused on the sky I didn’t watch were I was going… the beacon went up again. That must mean we still have time.”

A second before Rahne’s answer was cut off by the horrible roar; Mal flew down from the sky and onto Keren’s shoulder, terror present in her voice. “Whatever that thing is it’s massively huge, and it is heading in the opposite direction.” After receiving Rahne’s conformation on the matter, they decided to forget about the flag. Running toward the terrible sound, Keren hoped the other team was still alright. Following Rahne’s ears (Keren didn’t understand how she withstood the thunderous bellows) lead them to a large clearing, maybe the size of a soccer pitch.

In the clearing was the giant creature, snarling and slobbering. Keren couldn’t see the other team, but they still could have been present, only blocked from view. The sheer size of the creature made Keren stop in his tracks. His paleontology knowledge was lacking, but he’d always thought the T-Rex was the largest carnivorous dinosaur, and this thing was definitely not a T-Rex. Its long snout was lined with deadly sharp teeth much like a crocodile, and along its back was a thin row of tall spikes. Unlike the tyrannosaurs, this creature seemed to have full use of its arms for it was reaching and snatching in the air at something. Altogether the monstrosity had to be as long as half of a football field, and almost as tall. Shuddering a little Keren said:

“Um…wa, what do we do?”

Evading the peril of killer insects before destroying them mercilessly aroused the spark of adrenaline within Lucia's tissues. Stranded here, seemingly, in a holographic environment teeming to the brim with outlandish creatures was a reality she didn't think possible to appreciate. Here danger was an ambiance, hidden inside thousands of violent forms, each more grotesque than the last. Around every corner, beneath every tree root and moss-covered rock was another beast that wanted to kill her, eat her, disembowel her or hack her appendages away with chitinous blades, and the sole apparatus that would stay their efforts was teamwork with a man she barely knew.

It was so exciting!

From deep within, adrenaline rose from its slumber to shake the sloth from her limbs. Calcified by the endorphins of her own exertion, Lucia's esoteric thrill-seeking was toppling her serious demeanor.

“Yea, let’s cut around whatever the hell that was. Flying should shave off the extra time. Stick close.”

'Hmm?' Lucia fumbled out of her distraction, 'Oh. Yes. On my way.' she finished, unable to restrain the grin that was tugging at the corners of her lips.

As her partner sped off into the jungle, a part of the blonde wanted to stay. Hidden amidst the tree-tops, she wanted to see just what sort of monstrous entity to could create such a challenging sound. She wanted to see its power, its muscle mass, its jaws wide open and its majesty beauty in full action as its weight indented the earth it walked upon.

But alas.

Lucia's giggle was muffled behind closed lips.

Turning in the air, she shot off to catch up with Synch, the cool breeze of speed a welcome relief from the pitiless humidity of the savage land jungle.

Lucia looked like she was off in her own little world right now. He could see that by the smile present on her face that she was enjoying her time in the Savage Land. Maybe if this were the actual place she wouldn’t be so enthusiastic about it. Then again the Savage Land was a beautiful place despite its given name. The locals were the only thing savage about it. The wide array of colors and plant life was enough to make the most coldhearted person at least crack a smile. Everett cleared his throat to get her attention. It didn’t take long for her to catch up with him in the air.

Had they been walking they might have been able to feel the rumbling of the ground from what seemed like a massive creature trudging through the jungle. He flew under a large tree branch looking back over his shoulder at the little monkey having a snack atop it. The beacon went off again drawing his attention once more. Everett slightly picked up his pace, the gravity around his body becoming lighter. He used a bit of gravitational force to push back the foliage in his path until he reached a large clearing. Well… it would have been a clearing if it weren’t for the dinosaur standing right in the middle.

Everett immediately felt the presence of the opposing team. Guess they heard the creature too. He cursed silently to himself. “Well this big fella sure didn’t want to be left out of the fun.” He flew up a little higher to look past it, his eyes resting on Rahne and Keren. “You guys got a battle plan?” he yelled out. They were supposed to be capturing a flag, but this monster took priority now. Teamwork from them all would be key.

"Fan bloody tastic," Rahne grumbled as the monstrous dinosaur loomed over them.  Elongated snout, nasty teeth, large spines fin on the back... Spinosaurus.  Bigger than tyrannosaurus, meaner arguably, makes one hell of a meal according to Cyclops.

Of course, it absolutely figured that they would come to the rescue before Everett and Lucia needed rescuing.  That was just the way things went sometimes.

She glanced over at Keren - the poor boy was afraid, perhaps even terrified, and Rahne felt a pang of guilt at that. She had dragged him into this.  But that was part of what being an X-Man was about - facing frightening things for the sake of others.

"Heh, go figure," Rahne chuckled as Synch finally appeared.  "We come to rescue you and end up gettin' here before ye."

A plan, though.  Beating a predator meant thinking like a predator - and for all Rahne's innocence, for all her sweet-natured generosity of spirit, she was a predator.  And she understood the mentality here.  He was heading directly toward them - that meant he had scented them and was going in for the kill.  She'd never be able to live with herself if they were injured when she could have reacted to save them and didn't.

"One of ye get me up to his eyes," she started, legs tense, ready to move.  "He's primarily scent oriented, but the eyes are soft and takin' 'em out will hurt him.  Bad.  Keren, keep yuir bursts focused on his belly.  Whichever of ye's nae takin' me on a ride up, keep his feet planted."

Cheesy line time?  Yes, Rahne decided.  It was cheesy line time.
"And remember - he may nae be as afraid of us as we are of him," she glanced over to Keren with a small smile, "but he damn well should be."

As if to punctuate his lack of fear of them, the dinosaur stomped his foot down in the midst of the group of them.  Wolfsbane leapt towards Keren, scooping him up in her left arm and bounding yet again, taking him out of harm's way.  With their flight powers, she knew Synch and Lucia were just fine.

Keren was no novice when it came to conflicted emotions, so he took his odd mixture of thrill and terror in stride as he gaze upon the reptilian behemoth before him. It was soon apparent that the other team was not here; in fact they were both hovering in the air far away from danger. No use in fretting over that now, he thought wordlessly they were all present and accounted for. If anything, he was glad not finding that Synch was being used as dental floss for the creatures menacing teeth. Rahne, for her part, looked determined, her jaw set. She was ready to attack the monster head on, literally.

The plan was laid out, and Keren was to be in charge of the ground assault. It seemed everyone looked to Wolfsbane, the senior X-Men present, to take lead and take the lead she did. Confidently, she gave everyone their orders. It seemed she would be responsible for the most dangerous job of all…taking out the head. Keren could not (and would not) run straight on at the monster as he did the mini-dinos. That would just be ridiculous; he would have to stay far off and aim the best he could, for he still lacked the “kinesis” in electrokinesis. He understood that his orders were for the belly…but what if he got a good shot of energy directly on the heart? Maybe then he could stop it.

The monster was still facing the opposite direction, so Keren didn’t have a proper shot. Almost as if he heard Keren’s thoughts the monster whipped around and stomped hard into the clearing. Before he knew what was going on Keren was whisked away, much like a ragdoll. The whole thing was very undignified, but he knew he was the most vulnerable player out of the bunch. When he was released (at a very….very safe distance) Keren was blushing a little. An instant before Wolfsbane could say or do anything he bolted. Sure she could catch him easily if she wanted, and even if she just shouted for him to stop, he’d listen. However, he didn’t plan on making it easy for her as he ran around, giving the dinosaur a wide birth. The trek wasn’t a short one, for the thing was massive and at this distance he had twice the amount of area to cover. As he ran the crusting mud began flaking off at the friction. “Are you confident we can stop the heart?” inquired Mal, as she flew next to him.

“No…not especially, I but I have to try.” Came his reply. He wasn’t even sure where the thing kept its heart, it could be under a wall of bone for all he knew.

In truth Wolfsbane’s little show rankled Keren. The thought of being a liability shamed him, and he was desperate to prove his worth. Hoping Rahne would not stop him, Keren found a spot that would be ideal. He did not encroach on the distance Rahne set between him and the dinosaur, only reposition himself. When he got the chance he would aim for the heart. Yes, he was indeed frightened, but he’d been frightened before and he mastered his fears. Of course, ‘mastering his fears’ almost got him killed…but he didn’t let himself think about that.

Lucia would be lying if she denied that there was a part of her that wasn't slightly thrilled when she and Synch happened upon the other team. All this flying around and mucking about had pumped her up for a royal rumble-esque showdown with the pair, and the blodne had an aggressive compulsion to seize Rahne in a gravitational field and use her as a baseball bat to knock that pretty-boy Keren into the mud.

But alas, the presence of a monstrous reptile shelved any competitive (some might say belligerent) instincts she may have. For now.

Following Synch closer to Rahne and Keren, Lucia listened to the plan that Wolfsbane had formulated, believing it'd probably be better if she were the one to throw the girl up to the lizards eyes. If, after all, the Sctosgirl wanted the animals feet planted firmly to the ground, Synch was most likely more able to supply that level of inertia than she was.

Personally, the blonde wondered if they could just scare the animal off with fire. If they had any. Animals hated fire. Were terrified of it. At the first whiff of smoke it'd probably flee the scene.

It worked for Tamerlane. The man defeated the war elephant armies of the Sultan of India by forcing forward a line of camels that had been set on fire. Quite ingenious. The huge, grey beasts were prepared to fight men with spears - not confront a wall of agonised, inflamed camels. The elephants had run amok. Disastrous defeat. For India anyway. Ahh Timur, Lucia mused, they just didn't make men like you anymore.

"And remember - he may nae be as afraid of us as we are of him,"

The Spinosaurus responded by charging aggressively into their group.

Lucia's heart skipped a beat as she pulled herself away in time from the creatures jaws; the immensely powerful snapping mechanism opening and shutting like a trap. The exposure of fangs as long as her forearms were bad enough, without the defeaning crack-like sound they made when they slammed together - thankfully without her between them.

Swiftly pulling herself up and away as the beast turned its notice, Lucia hoped Rahne was feeling up to the task as the blonde reached forward to scoop the Scotsgirl up with a gravitational field and catapulted her towards the side of the animals face.

Damn this creature was huge, bigger than any dinosaur he’d scene except those long necks whose name he couldn’t recall at the moment. He remembered this scene from the third Jurassic Park movie. The largest and baddest of the lizards had caused a lot of damage to the crew and everything else in its path. The only thing that stopped it somewhat was fire, something he didn’t have. Everett listened as Rahne developed a battle plan, a good one, but dangerous. There was always the possibility that the dino could open its mouth just as she was being hurled toward its face. That would be disastrous.

“Alright that sounds go-whoa!” He ducked under the large, whip-like tail of the creature as it set its body in motion. There was no time to waste. They had to take this big fella out now. Everett thrusts his arms forward and took hold of the creature’s massive legs. He increased the gravitational field around them tenfold to keep it from moving any further. It tried to take a step, but the force was too strong. “I got him! This guy ain’t going anywhere anytime soon.” The Spinosaurus roared and thrashed around like a kid having a tantrum as it tried to pry its way from the grip around its legs.

He wasn’t about to let go anytime soon… oh shit. Everett looked to his left in time to see three raptors running from the bushes and trees. “So didn’t see that coming.” The three smaller dinosaurs saw this as the prime opportunity to grab dinner without the risk of being eaten by the bigger predators. “Three raptors at three o’clock,” he warned them. He briefly released partial hold of the Spino to send out a concussive force to knock back the raptors, and then quickly went back to holding the big guy in place. Whatever Keren was going to do, he needed to do it fast.

This time around, Wolfsbane was ready to fly. She streamlined herself, arms down, legs straight as Lucia sent her into the air and towards the dinosaur's head. This was it. Do or die time, and Rahne Sinclair had no intentions of dying. Not today.

She reached out and latched onto the bony ridge above the monster's right eye, and swung herself around so that she was straddling the creature around the base of his skull. He whipped his head around, trying to shake the small nuisance off of him, but her grip was strong, and between her thighs and her hands grabbing on above his eyes, she was held on quite tight.

The dinosaur, of course, couldn't keep that thrashing up for too long, lest he become disoriented. He had to take a break, and that was Wolfsbane's moment of opportunity. As soon as the head's movement slowed down enough, she raised both of her hands and, fingers curled inward, plunged her claws directly into the beast's eyes, spraying the immediate area with a bright, almost liquid spray of polygonal sparks.

The creature roared in simulated agony and reared back, feet pinned, vulnerable.
"Keren!" Rahne called out, hoping to be heard over the catastrophic cacaphony emitting from the creature's mouth as she held back on. For her, this was the safest place. His arms were bigger than your basic tyrannosaur's, but he'd still have a tough time reaching behind his head. "Take the shot!"
