Wolf Form

Bloody hell, Rahne thought to herself as she was suddenly and forcefully yanked off of the ceiling. But that really wasn't what the "bloody hell" was thought over. That came no thanks to the involuntary clenching of her jaw that came with the sudden and unexpected re-inversion of the gravitational forces that just moments ago, were no longer working on her. With them now working equally in both directions, effectively pinning her mid-air, her lupine panic instincts kicked in and... CRACK! the flag snapped in her jaws, as a panicked intake of breath brought the fabric component of the flag into her throat. Without too much time on her side for this one, Rahne quickly shifted into a humanoid form, the flag good and lodged in her throat. She was fortunate the plastic components weren't there too, or she'd have sharp pieces to contend with as well. Didn't mean she was any less choking, though. Emergency protocols kicked in and the Danger Room session shut itself down, prehistoric jungle giving way to sterile, blank metallic walls and flooring, gave way to a room that, while large and spacious, was not quite as large and spacious as the jungle it had just been. Floating mid-air, Rahne pulled her hands together and punched at her diaphragm in order to make herself cough the flag up. No dice. Couldn't get solid enough leverage from where she was, and she couldn't ask Lucia to set her down on account of the flag in her throat. You are not dying this way, Sinclair. Not here, not now, not this way. No. she thought, ramming herself in the diaphragm yet again. |

Synch’s gloating was really beginning to irritate Keren. He was ready to forgive Mal’s reckless technique if the X-Man kept up this smack talk. Losing was hard enough without hearing all that, though he had to admit him and Rahne were putting up a good fight. The field causing Keren to sink into the ground eased as Synch turned his back. Using his favorite root, the teen pulled himself out of the pit, his training uniform caked with fake dirt. The physical energy he exerted extricating himself caused his head to spin. Forget ice cream, his body needed nutrients and a nap. Using up too much energy to fast always made his brain feel sluggish and feeble. Once he couldn’t even remember his name for a few minutes. Mal caught up with him as he began to trot away from the clearing. “Where you trying to kill him or…” before he could finish Synch released some composite gravity/lightning ball toward the diving creatures, simultaneously drawing them in and discharging. Jeez, what can’t this guy do? He doesn’t even look tired. It was amazing to watch, though the thought of having his powers taken made him feel a bit violated. The dinos burst into the hexagonal lights after they were barbequed (well done by the look of it), and Keren tried to make it out of the clearing before Synch’s celebration ended. There was no desire to be held down in another pit. In the distance Keren could see that Wolfsbane was being put through the wringer as well. Dinosaurs and other behemoths were cake compared to these two. The girl, in her wolf form, suddenly fell off the ceiling until she was caught in mid air. Lucia looked as if she was beginning to feel exhaustion as well…at least Keren wasn’t the only one. Suddenly Rahne shifted back into her were form, and the program ended. All around him the Savage Lands were disintegrating…the mud and dirt on Keren’s body with it. “Wait…did we win?” He confusedly asked the room at large. As he finished his question Rahne began punching herself in the stomach were she was floating, and Mal flew in to get a better view. “She’s choking on the flag!” Came her panicked squawk. Rahne was a lot closer than she appeared while the program was still running, and a wobbly jog brought Keren directly under her seconds later. If the ‘dirt’ on his clothes vanished, why hadn’t the flag? he thought. “Oh god someone get her down!” |

Gravity Control, Enhanced Intelligence

Initially, Lucia didn't think anything lethal was occurring. Wolfbane, as predicted, fell off the edge of Lucia's powers and started plummeting to the floor below. Then, just as a new gravity sink quickly drew her backwards into its embrace a visceral snapping sound exploded from Rahne's maw. Her eyes opening in fright, Lucia thought the poor dears teeth had broken against the hardlight flagpole. She expected to see a waterfall of gore cascade down from what should be the bloody mess of Rahne's mouth, and the blonde instantly felt spikes of guilt dragging themselves up her shoulders. Thus Lucia was greatly relieved when she instead spotted the two halves of the flagpole tumble away from the now immobile Wolfbane, the lycanthrope spasming and struggling against her new apprehension. Well, thank jolly for that! Rahne was just trying to pull her little shapeshifting trick again to escape the long fingers of gravity. Sorry sister, Lucia quirked internally, not this time! Rahne even shifted back into her human form to facilitate the same escapist-prank she had pulled before on Synch! Well, fool me once! Drifting closer to her inert opponent, Lucia prepared herself to gloat freely over Wolfbane. After all, she had destroyed the flag. Surely that was a disqualification? The blondes thoughts cluttered with a cavalcade of ice cream, brilliantly colored and hued like the rainbow with flavors galore to satisfy even her ravenous craving. Her belief was enhanced when the virtual landscape of the Savage Land winked out of existence, and the two teams were standing in the centre of the spick-and-span danger room. 'Well well well,' Lucia started, her golden brow furrowing as Wolfbane begun to stoutly thump her sternum. Man, she must have really wanted that ice cream. 'Now now, settle down, there's no need to throw a tantrum -' "She's choking on the flag!" shrieked a familiar voice from down below. It was Keren! "Oh God someone get her down!" Floating around to face her one-time-opponent, Lucia's eyes widened as she saw the tell-tail signs of suffocation straining Rahne's face crimson. Hurriedly, the blonde ignored her own growing weariness and dispersed the gravity sink that was holding Rahne in place. She then gently floated the choking lycanthrope own to the ground. Lucia was no lifeguard, but how hard could the Heimlich maneuver be to perform? The blonde was worried though whether Rahne, caught in the grip of a deathly panic, would flail out and perhaps claw anyone that attempted to assist her. Deciding to brave it anyway, Lucia shot behind Rahne and wrapped her arms around her abdomen. She just hope Wolfbane knew what she was trying to do, and would cooperate... |

This game was going to be theirs no doubt. As Everett flew toward the two ladies, he paused. Something was not right. Why the heck was the simulation starting to fade away? The only reason it would do that would be because one of them had returned the flag to a base. Wait; there were safety precautions set in place as well. The simulation would end if one of them was placed in any real danger. Since he was sure no one had returned the flag, it had to mean that someone was in trouble. He got his answer when he say Rahne struggling. “Shit!” was all that he could say. The woman was choking on the flag after having it snapped in her mouth. But he was puzzled at this too. The flag was part of the overall simulation so it should have vanished along with everything else. He would worry about that later; right now they had to help her expel the flag before she choked to death. She tried to do it herself, but was having no luck. Lucia aided in the process by performing the Heimlich maneuver. “I got it,” he said after figuring a way to get it out. Everett created a concentrated field of gravity around the flag. He slowly began to pull the object from her throat inch by inch until it was finally free. “How you feeling now?” he asked as the flag floated down then disappeared into particles. Now that the life of a fellow X-Man and friend was no longer in danger, he could focus on what went wrong. This was a weird occurrence, something that had never happened before, at least not that he knew of. It was entirely possible that he may have miscalculated when designing the program. After all he was not a tech expert or braniac. |

"KKAafFF!!" Rahne coughed with a sudden and sharp heave as Lucia got around behind her and got to work. Between Lucia and Everett, the flag was dislodged with relative ease and soon dissipated into nothingness, leaving behind naught but spittle on the floor. "Huhh.... huhhh...." Rahne took a few heaving breaths, nodding her head, hand held to her chest. "Aye... aye... I'm alright, just... need a breather... maybe a few breathers..." she gasped out, swallowing a small lump in her throat. "What do ye say... next time, we just stick to fightin' robots or somethin', aye? Nice... nice an' simple." She wiped her chin with the back of her right arm, deciding right then and there that that was a trick that she had no intention of ever trying again. Yes, no sticking holograms in your mouth anymore. Lesson learned. "I'll buy," she said, referring to the bet she herself had wagered. It seemed only fair, after all. She ended the exercise, accidentally forced it at a draw. Not to mention she was probably the one here with the longest tenure and the most experience out on the field... why not treat this time around? "Clean up and meet up by the bus stop then?" she asked, taking a deep breath and straightening up. Now that she was back in human form and she actually had sweat glands, the physical activity of the session was catching up with her. |

There really wasn’t much for him to do, so Keren stood out of the way. Rahne was currently covered in her russet wolf fur, but Keren imagined that the skin underneath was close to the same color. After everyone realized what was going on, the flag was removed lickety-split and Rahne recovered just as quickly. “Yea, this training session was nothing if not eventful…” He said, as he patted Rahne gently on the back. “When we started all I wanted was the ice-cream, now I just want to soak in a salted bath. I’m beat.” The attack on the giant crocodile took a lot out of him, and it was the first time he’d consciously used that much heat. There weren’t many practical ways to test his limits, so the session was a success in that sense. “Sounds good, though I should probably get some nutrients in me before we go. I’ll stop by the kitchens first…are you sure you’re okay Rahne?” Keren fervently wished his shower was a long soak in a Jacuzzi, but he still felt rejuvenated at the end of it. When his body began recovering, Keren realized how much fun he’d had. Sure the whole gravity pit thing sucked, and Rahne almost suffocating, not to mention the vomiting (which he had to clean up), but as a whole it was a blast. After freshening up, Keren swung by the kitchen and snagged a handful of energy and protein bars. The shower made him feel a bit better, but his body was still sluggish from overexertion. “Looks like we are the first ones here.” He said through a mouthful of granola as he reached the bus stop. He was looking forward to having ice-cream with his peers, for he very rarely just ‘hung-out’ with any of them. Even though he was the only student present, they were all close to the same age. “This has been a good day, eh Mal?” |

Gravity Control, Enhanced Intelligence

Watching a raging, galloping she-wolf brought low by a simple cloth lodged in her throat was an experience Lucia had never thought she'd ever witness, but there she had it. Spluttering, coughing and her neck convulsing, Wolfsbane wretched the insides of her throat, thick bridges of saliva and all, in order to save both her life and dignity. When the ordeal was finished and Wolfsbane was recovering, Lucia watched the flag disspiate harmlessly into shards of light and rose a slender, golden eyebrow in curiousity. If the inside of the Danger Room was malleable thanks to its holographic design, how did it choke the inside of Wolfsbanes throat if it had no direct passage through which to beam the hardlight? Could the Danger Room at any time abruptly materialise an advanced, solid hologram inside ones body? And if it had shut down its entire program because Wolfsbane had started choking, how long was it going to let her suffocate before it decided to unsummon the flag cloth? Would it have killed her as a lesson to her allies that they should have acted quicker? An uncomfortable chill settled over Lucia's shoulders as she started casting suspicious glances about the Danger Room. How did it project light through Wolfsbanes neck to sustain her asphixiation? The physicist in Lucia didn't understand. Her mighty brain was stumped. The fact that she could see Wolfsbane meant that light was being reflected off of her skin and not into her guts. So how did the Danger Room... What if it had teleported rays of light directly into Wolfsbanes esophagus? Don't be absurd, Lucia scorned herself. Technology of that sophistication would require a working understanding of quantum physics that wasn't available commercially. As impressive as the Xavier Mansion was in the electrical sense, not even it had readily available teleporation devices, and it certainly wouldn't deploying them in an effort to murder it owns students. Proof enough for that was the fact that the X-men still needed to travel long distances by jet. Bringing herself back into the present, Lucia vaguely heard the promise of ice cream on Rahne before Yantra darted off in excitement. Under normal circumstances, the blonde would've been right on his tail, but these weren't normal circumstances. Lucia had just witnessed the shattering of the laws of physics, and as she stood, feet apart at shoulders width and her fists resting imposingly on her hips, she glared at the Danger Room in contempt for its Chesire ways. One day I'll understand your choking technology, Lucia thought balefully, and then I shall annihilate you down to your every last cell... Pursing her lips, the blonde moved herself away from the group and silently headed back to her quarters. After a shower and a change, she floated steadily towards the rendezvous only to discover that Yantra was the only one to arrive so far. Lucia silently set herself down when he wasn't looking. 'Marvelous game wasn't it!' |

“Aw, but robots are kinda been there done that,” he chuckled. Everett gave Rahne a soft pat on her back to comfort. Had they not acted fast enough, there was a chance she would not be talking to them right now, but instead lying on the cold, metal floor. That was a thought that he forced out of his mind. She was going to be the one to pay for the ice cream which he had no objections to. “Sounds good to me. Meet you peeps there.” Everett glanced over to Lucia who was standing in a rather heroic looking position. She looked like Wonder Woman posing in front of the American flag. Shaking his head with a smile, he headed off to get ready for the trip ahead. Once back in his room, he stripped away the hot leather uniform and jumped into the shower. His mind was still trying to figure out what the hell had gone wrong for Rahne to end up choking like that. He blamed himself, he had to. There was no other explanation than him making a miscalculation. “Dude, next time leave it to the braniacs.” After he was finished getting all fresh and clean smelling, Everett tossed on an old muscle shirt, some cargo shorts and sneakers and exited his room. He met up with the others at the designated bus stop to wait for said vehicle to come. “Woo. That was some intense stuff back there huh? That ice cream is sounding better and better.” |
