Roughly an hour after Parlay

“What?”

“We just... went out. Y'know... for food and stuff.”

“We?”

Josh looked over his shoulder at Terry, not quite sure how to respond to that questions. He looked back at Logan, “Yeah. Me and Terry.”

Logan's intense gaze flickered from Josh to Terry and back again to Josh, “She's under house arrest.”

Josh met the feral's gaze for a few moments of silence... “Yeah.”

“You know what house arrest means?”

Josh swallowed, his eyes forced to flicker away from Logan's for a split second. “Yeah.”

Logan stared at him for a few more moments before finally responding, “Food? That all?”

“Uh... no,” Josh said. He was actually slightly worried to bring up the rest of what had happened. “I took her to her old house to pick up some of her stuff.”

Without a word, Logan crossed his arms over his chest, muscles rippling as he rested his hands on each bicep and stared Foley down. “You got somethin else to say?”

Foley glanced over at Terry... he didn't want to tell Wolverine about Tom, but the feral had ways of finding out... and if it wasn't him, Jean or Emma probably would. He'd been with the X-Men long enough to know that this kind of situation was serious enough to possibly justify telepathic intervention... the pair of them had seriously jeopardized their standing arrangement with SHIELD.

Finally, he looked back and Logan, “Yeah, but you gotta promise me something.”

“You ain't in a position to bargain, Foley.”

Josh bulldozed forward, “I'm responsible for tonight. I take full blame for what happened and everything. She couldn't have gotten out without me, and as an X-Man, I recognize that and I'm willing to answer for it.”

It was almost certain they'd find out about the meeting with Tom... it would be infinitely better if they got it from him voluntarily.

Trust me, Terry.

It had been about an hour, maybe more since they had left her apartment down in Brooklyn. Terry didn’t remember too much of the drive back to the Institute, having spent it replaying over and over what had just happened. Her hands shook slightly and she felt a rising tide of emotions threatening to spill over, but she couldn’t break down. She couldn’t break down in front of Josh and now she couldn’t break down in front of Logan. Instead she grit her teeth, wishing she could just take herself off to some quiet corner and drink til she didn’t care about letting herself cry. Why the holy fuck did she even care so much? Tom was just a bastard, pure and simple, who was a wanted terrorist, one of the worst, who had lied to her…and brought her up and given her everything so that she had a chance at being a good person.

The words passing between the two X-men for the most part drifted over her head, until Josh threw in that he was going to take full responsibility. Sea green eyes widening, Theresa looked across at him, mouthing what?, taken by surprise by what he was doing…What did he want from her for this? Or was he…Was he going to tell Logan about Tom? Well, she could say goodbye to ever going outside again if that was the case and no doubt Cassidy would throw his oar in if he heard about this. Shaking her red head, the sonic mutant looked away, feeling crushed inside.

“Sure it’s all yer fault…” Terry muttered obstinately. She had no idea why Josh was about to take the fall for this, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to know why…The redhead wasn’t keen on owing people, it put you in tricky spots. Plus she had the least to lose. Really, what would they do? Throw her back to SHIELD and let them put her in prison? The teen couldn’t see that as a viable form of punishment, considering her age. So, they’d probably not let her out and null her – oh wait, she was nulled and not allowed out already. Big deal.

“I made him take me. Food was his idea though. He eats like a fuckin’ pig with three stomachs.”

JP - Wolverine, Elixir, Siryn

Logan looked from Rourke to Foley, Josh's face had the look of annoyance about it. The feral's mouth twitched as his eyes narrowed at the former healer. “She put a gun to yer head, kid?”

Josh shook his head, “No.”

Wolverine looked back at Terry, “Josh met us after a gun blew up in his hand. Don't think you could make him do much of anything, kid. You got a good bit to answer for, but you ain't the one wearin the big pants here.” He nodded at Josh, “Foley here is.”

The redhead shrugged, looking sideways at Josh. Wasn’t that she particularly wanted to be in the shit, but it wasn’t like her name was up in lights around the place in the first instance. There was going to be no convincing Logan however and she grit her teeth, unsure of what to say for once. Really, what could they do? The worst case scenario was getting kicked back to SHIELD but after all the crazy shit she had seen around the school, Terry wasn’t convinced that that was such a bad idea.

Just keep it shut, Terry, Josh said as he cast her a cautious glance. Logan could smell deception a mile away... only ones better at picking up on a lie than a feral was a telepath. He fixed Wolverine with a serious look, “Okay... there's more to it, but trust me, Logan... nothing bad happened. No one's been compromised or anything. It was a harmless trip to get her stuff at the apartment. As far as you know, that's all that happened. If it was anything important, I would tell you.”

Halfway through Josh's little speech, the feral switched his glare back to Terry. His nose was twitching, which made Josh nervous.

“Who'd you meet?”

Oh damn, Josh thought.

Terry’s face went through several shades of pale to red back to pale again and her eyes took on a death glare look, as Josh inadvertently dug a hole, emphasising maybe a bit too much that nothing had happened. God, if he’d just…Her hands clenched and unclenched in and out of fists, knuckles white by her side. The question came, not really surprising and Josh was quiet beside her. If Logan was all that, then he’d know about her anyway, about where she’d come from and just what home might mean. She was sixteen and in a foreign country; she’d hardly be living alone. But this was for Tom, so she kept her trap shut as she stood next to Josh, all the while afraid that she was going to explode and say something she would really end up regretting.

Unable to bear it, she screwed up her eyes, giving a huff of irritation. “Look. I just wanted me things. Not a law against that, is it? We had ter go in a bar where a friend o me relation kept a spare set fer me, just in case.”

Logan's face remained expressionless as he stared unblinking at Terry. For a few moments it was as if Josh didn't even exist, and the healer was starting to wonder if he'd be asked to leave so the pair could have a few private words. Foley was sure Wolverine had at least a good idea of what had happened. He'd been around the man long enough to tell.

“Are you gonna tell the others,” he asked.

Logan completely ignored Josh's question... it was as if he hadn't even heard it. “You hate it here. You sure as hell don't wanna go back to SHIELD. Why didn't you go off with him. Didn't get an offer?”

“No I didn’t get an offer and fuck, even if I did, you ain’t met Patrick,” Terry scoffed and folded her arms across her chest, before her expression softened a touch and she gave the feral teacher a more serious look, glancing to Josh for a moment.

“I didn’t…I didn’t want ter get Josh into any more trouble than I probably already would have anyway. Ain’t what yer do ter friends,” she said, her last sentence a little more subdued and serious, her eyes darting to focus on a spot on the wall.

“'Kay,” Logan finally said, moving from his perch leaning on the edge of his desk and began walking around it.

“Okay,” Josh repeated a little in disbelief. He wanted the pair of them to just turn around and leave. Looking a gift horse in the mouth wasn't a good idea, but at the same time... he couldn't understand what was happening, and he needed to know.

“Yeah,” Logan said, sitting in his chair behind his cluttered desk.

“So that's it?”

“Yeah.”

Josh looked from him to Terry, and back to Wolverine.

“We're done?”

“It ain't over, but we're done here. Don't worry. I'll deal with you later.”

Josh stayed silent for a full five seconds and gave Terry a quick glance.

“You should remove Terry's null cuff.”
