Time of day: 11:27 Place in the timeline: October 12th Piotr rubbed his hands back and forth as his eyes constantly darted from side to side... how long had it been since he asked what time it was? A minute? Five minutes? When every second was precious and could be the last for two of his friends, it tended to make time come to a complete halt. He glanced at Leo's watch, but was unable to make out the time from the angle of his teammate's arm... he didn't bother asking for the time again. What was the point anyhow. Where was he? Proudstar wasn't late if he was coming at all but it felt like he was dragging his feet to get here. Piotr checked the the surrounding area again... no one was looking directly at him, but he still had the sensation that he was being watched. He hated that feeling. Where was he? How long would they wait for him at this stupid restaurant before deciding on another route to take? He would have much rather met him at the mansion and simply collected him that way, but he didn't want to draw the attention of anyone else at the mansion. So he had sent an email to the man and had already gotten a response here at half past eleven. Every minute was precious. Hours earlier Colossus looked up from the battered and bruised face of the drug peon who's hair he still clutched and into the faces of his teammates. He does not know where they are keeping it. He knows nothing but the access code. Without another word he slammed his fist against the side of the man's head, knocking him out. Piotr hadn't yet taken on his armored form yet... they were trying to keep things as quiet as possible for as long as they could. He was not sure how long they could keep this up if every man they came across was as tight-lipped as this one. The Russian nodded at Jono to punch in the access code. Why had the mission gone so wrong? Where had the drugs been? And why the hell was there so much superpowered muscle there? He'd tried to contact Hill, but she wasn't answering. He wasn't surprised... she never talked to them on the phone. Piotr glanced toward the television hanging in the corner silently flashing the latest news on CNN with closed captions underneath to make up for the lack of sound. Some female celebrity had been caught in bed with someone other than her husband... was that really all anyone cared about anymore? What time is it, Piotr asked Leo for what was possibly the thousandth time. |

A short time earlier As James reached for his pack, his computer dinged loudly, signaling him that he had received e-mail. He clicked on it and frowned. Strange. Piotr's message was cryptic but urgent asking him to meet in North Salem as soon as possible. James hesitated, glancing at the clock. He was taking Rodney on a hike, trying to get some of the boy's excessive energy worked out in more productive ways. If he cut their hike short he could meet him around 11:30. He typed back a reply and headed out the door. Somehow he had the feeling that Rodney wouldn't be too heartbroken that they would be coming back early. Present James parked his Jeep in front of the restaurant, and took off his sunglasses before entering the building. He spotted Piotr with another man not too far away. James cocked an eyebrow. The colossal man was practically fidgeting. This made no sense. James was so confused. He approached the table and pumped the Russian's fist. "Pete." Turning he offered his hand to the other man, whom he didn't know. James considered himself a good judge of character and he was thinking that there was more to this man than met the eye. He wasn't a physical specimen like Colossus or Warpath but he was a solid looking man, and his piercing blue eyes seemed to take in everything about James with a glance. "James Proudstar. Nice to meet you." He sat at the table and spread his hands giving Piotr a quizzical look. "What's this all about Pete? I'm more than a little confused as to what's going on." This whole situation perplexed James. This type of secrecy and tension was not the Russin's M.O. at all. He wouldn't even be here if Piotr hadn't sounded so urgent in his e-mail. "Why are we here and what's so sensitive about it that we couldn't talk about it at the Mansion?" |

Phasing / Seismic Energy Manipulation

It seemed his short career had granted Leo with a little more patience than what the X-Men had done for his companion Piotr. Perhaps it was not patience that was his problem, he was quite certain that the larger man across the table had bundles of it. However, he sure had a great difficulty hiding the nervous/anxious/worried air that seemed to be wafting from him. He rubbed his hands and shifted his eyes, and asked for the time more times than he could remember. Leo on the other hand sat casually as if not bothered at all, except for inquiries about the time that is. He sipped on his coffee, black with two sugar and his second on in their setting, as he watched the news now and again with little interest. He knew what it was like to have to sit still when you'd rather be on the move, out there doing something...he'd been there many times. But at the moment there was little more they could do and if that was all you could do, then there was no sense in becoming a bundle of nerves or giving yourself an ulcer. Calm for the moment was sort of a short lived thing as little by little he was becoming annoyed by his teammate's continuous glancing at his watch. It wasn't that he wasn't worried as well, he just hid it better or channeled it in another way. In his lap, out of view of Piotr, was his cell phone which he discretely one-handed text Hill every five to ten minutes or so. It further irritated him that she hadn't even responded once to tell him to fuck off or otherwise. Bitch. He took another long draw of the hot bitter beverage when once more Piotr asked him what time it was. His sapphire eyes seemed to darken as they glared from behind the coffee mug, his brows knit further showing his irritation. "Five minutes since you last asked." He replied, without feeling the need to hide his agitation. Leo did, however, keep his tones at a civil and quiet level. "And quit fidgeting...fuck. Proudstar is an X-Man. He said he'd be here and he will be. You guys seem to be all like that, reliable..." His eyes flickered to the door for a moment as a man walked in but by mere glance Leo knew it wasn't the one they awaited. "Just try to keep yourself together. They're alive...X-Force isn't made for pussies. We'll get them back." His voice wasn't reassuring, yet it held no hints or worry or doubt. Leo was certain that they would get their two teammates back, he wouldn't stop until they did, until he was sure Laura was safe. But in order to do it they needed more than just the two of them...They needed more manpower. James Proudstar, or Warpath, was that man. Then shortly after, he entered. Right away, Leo knew he was the man they were waiting for. His impressive stature and features were a dead give away, had he only been given text documents on the man. And in sizing him up he couldn't help but think what an awesome football player he would make along side with Colossus. Perhaps one day when things weren't so dark they would get together and toss the football around. It was something he would chew on. He already had an attachment with Laura, but wasn't sure if he wanted to actually pursue an actual friendship with his other teammates. Sometimes such relationships.....complicated things, clouded judgment. While his heart was not made of ice, he kept his personal attachments light so that should it ever come down to it, his decisions wouldn't be controlled by emotions. James spotted the pair right away and strolled up to their table to greet Piotr before he turned to him with an extended hand. Slightly rising and taking it with a nod of acknowledgement, Leo shook his hand casually with a firm grip, taking a notice of the man's strength in its return. "Leo Brady. Thanks for coming." He replied, giving him no attempt at a smile as the situation was grave. Settling back in his seat, James joined them and inquired to Piotr what the deal was, wondering why they had to meet so far away from institute grounds. To this Leo spoke first. "This is a matter of upmost confidentiality, you understand. No one is to know of this meeting." His hard blue eyes locked with James' with intense seriousness. "We didn't want to involve anyone else, however your assistance has become necessary." Leo paused for a second. Although he had been to the mansion a few times over the years, helped out on an occasion or two, he and James were strangers. If any weak link could be made it would be of his good friend and nurse at the institute, Avery Doyle. It was through her that he had set up his first meeting with Piotr but he could no longer use her as leverage as their line of work was not only secretive but very dangerous. Asking for another mysterious favor would rise her suspicions even further and he knew her well enough that her concern for her teammates would push her to involve herself in things she should not. Thus in this situation he was forced to look to the large Russian across the table, his words would have more weight and trustworthiness as a teammate of Proudstar's than anything Leo could say. "Go ahead, Piotr." He then said with a nod, giving him the go ahead to explain the situation. |
